[WORKSHOP] Bootanimations - TouchPad Themes and Apps

Bootanimations WorkshopHey I'm here to start a new workshop and take requests from you guys
NEW! You can now send me .gif files to make bootanimations
For me to be able to make a bootanimation i need a video source unless i want to start from scratch... So here's what you guys have to do:
-Give me link to the vid or .gif you want to make as a bootanimation
-Give me Resolution
-Give me the number of loops (How many times you want your animation to restart)
I will upload your bootanimation once I'm done with it and you'll have to install it by following the instructions below:
Rename the zip that I'll have uploaded to "bootanimation.zip" Then copy paste it to /system/media/
If this doesn't work then Rename it and Paste the zip in /data/local

Yes, i found a way to add sound to the animation however you have to get an .mp3 file so you have to extract the sound from the vid.

Ok so i made this for the TouchPad (768 x 1024) since you didn't tell me what resolution to use. The max quality for the vid was 360p so....here you go: Credits to rascarlo (The guy who made the vid)
Download Link : https://www.dropbox.com/s/7uo5jddw8bdtqt3/bootanimatioon1.zip
Instructions are on first post
Enjoy!

Ted,
Thanks for offering up some free service for us boot theme changers!
All i need now is something to send to you!
couple questions?
what is the time duration for video needed?
Does it matter what resolution video was shot in?
Can a .gif file be used?
Keep up the great work!

Thank you, and You're welcome!
-The Duration does not matter (if its to short it loops and if its to long the touchpad will boot before it ends)
-Resolution matters if you want higher quality bootanimation the bigger the resolution is the better the quality is
- Finally yes i have found a way to extract frames from .gif files and use them in a bootanimation
Feel free to ask anything you like

Ted, I do have the mp3 file but I can't get it to play during boot... do I need to change some other file to play the file?

Please follow instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703316

please please please!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6TjN5cmEaA @ 3:25-3:53
You can use www.keepvid.com to extract the video.

Ter, it didn't work... still no sound.... flash the sound boot.zip and ran the script... no lucky... even copy the files inside the soundbootzip file manually! Can you help me?

Ted, can you simply explain how you put together your boot animations and zip them?
I was able to:
1) Rip the video from YouTube using KeepVid.com
2) Resize the video to 1024x768 and trim a 30 second clip, using Freemake Video Converter
3) Convert the 30 second clip to JPG frames using Avidemux
4) Batch convert the JPG frames to PNG (longggg, using Adobe Bridge/Photoshop)
5) Throw the PNGs into the zip as 'Store'.
But installing it was unsuccessful. Do the file names matter? Is there a quicker process to batch them to PNGs?
Edit:
I was thinking of using ffmpeg like this (I will try when I get home from work):
Code:
ffmpeg -i INPUTFILE -r SAMPLERATE -f image2 images%05d.png
i.e. ffmpeg -i "MyFile.mp4" -r 35 -f image2 images%05d.png

Edit #2: I have figured everything out and have made an easy to follow tutorial on how to convert Youtube videos to boot animations: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719104

[Q] bootanimation

Question #1
Im kinda frustrated because i cant make this bootanimation to work with my eris.
http://droidboots.com/wp-content/themes/jq/view/drain-hole/icons/supermario_201.gif
When i run it it only shows the top left quarter of the screen.
I tried everything,if i resize pictures, edit the desc.txt i always get a black screen.
Question #2
Is there a way to add sound to a bootanimation.?
Thanks for yall's anwsers.
#1 = no idea

do you have the original bootanimation.zip file for this. It might be anything from the original image size to how the bootanimation.zip file is zipped. Don't know unless I can take a look.

as far as I know, you can not resize gifs or they stop working and become an image
you will have to make it in the right size to start with

They are not GIF, they are PNG. I resized them as png as well.
After you changed the image sizes to 320 by 480, the zip file needs to be zipped with no compression.

I'm sorry for bumping and asking you this but I edited a boot animation I got in XDA and re-zipped it as "Store". When I pushed it via adb (adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local) and tested it out, a black screen showed.
Attached here is the boot animation. Thanks in advance!
Try this! It worked for me.
*note, on some roms the boot animation is located in /system/media.

Looks like it was a problem when you made your .zip file. After you zip your folder, open the .zip with windows explorer, you should see the Part0, Part1 and desc.txt files. If you have to go through a folder first, it won't work. I rezipped it for you and attached it below.

bootanimation cyanogen mod + nexus1 + android pissing on apple, all in one!

I made (ported) a bootanimation. [MY FIRST CONTRIBUTION TO XDA SINCE I JOINED]
mixture of nexus 1(without the htc logo appearing)
+ a cyanogen 3d animation(which I got from nexus 1 themes and apps section)
+ android pissing on apple. ALL IN ONE!
http://db.tt/gMFnd2e
actually I made it for myself but thought of sharing it.
To port a animation which you like (to make is difficult than port)-
1. unzip 'bootanimation.zip' or any other name which you want to port.
2. you see 1 or 2 or more folders + a .txt file.
2. batch resize all png images in all those folders to 240*400 using 'Fast Stone Photo Resizer'.. no need to change anything else. (they would be of different resolution as they are made for different phone.)
3. edit using 'notepad++' the 'desc.txt' file and change the resolution value typed there to 240 400.
4. the folders and .txt file are ready.
5. archive these files using '7zip'
archive format- zip
compression level- store
don't change anything else and zip it.
6. YOUR BOOTANIMATION IS PORTED.
To apply custom bootanimation-
1. rename the zip to bootanimation.zip
2. move using root explorer to /data/local/ or /system/media/ either of them only, don't move to both!
3. remove 'playlogo' from /system/bin/
4. EVERYTHING DONE!! JUST REBOOT AND ENJOY!! :
WARNING- ITS THE SIMPLEST EXPLANATION EVEN A NOOB CAN UNDERSTAND BUT EVEN THEN IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE. BACKUP 'playlogo' IN CASE YOU WANT TO REVERT TO ORIGINAL BOOTANIMATION AND REVERSE FOLLOW THE GUIDE.
ROOTED PHONE NEEDED.
this is just ported by me, made by different people. The guide I wrote was googled from different sources and I tried the simplest way for myself and thus for the post.
Good work !
1. use Fast Stone Photo Resizer for resizing the .png files
2. notepad++ for editing desc.txt file, not the windows notepad.
3. 7zip, not winzip/winrar/anything else.
this is all I needed to port bootanimation.
Mod edit : remove the same
dont ask for the thanks button it is to be given by the member of his own free will & not to be asked for
Edit: solved. post delete.
I have
1.uploaded the file over xda.
2. added a download link for non xda members.
If you want to mix animations as I have done, maintain the animation sequence by renaming the files in sequence you want to play your animation, in those 2 folders.
You can better unzip my animation and check what I have done about mixing different animations and it's sequence.

Ported? when I want to use boot animation from other device(galaxy tab.animation 800x600), I only coppy animation in system/media, and this work awersome.. I think, that resize is only waste of time...IMHO
I used irfanview to batch resize and windows notepad to edit the file.
Ziped the files with winrar.
It works great! Thanks for the infos!

Ya irfanview is a nice 'open source' alternative.
I used 7zip because I love 'open source', anyway that 'compression - store' is important.
But I read somewhere that windows notepad adds 'something' which I don't know, to the text file making it difficult or unreadable for android, result-black boot screen, again I am not sure. never tried it.
Notepad++ does no such thing.
So I recommended it.
very very cool boot animation.. thanks a lot!!
would be more enjoyable if that pissing scene could last a bit longer!!

Hi
Actually the frame rate is bit high,18/s
Maybe reducing it to 15 or 16 would be fine.
Also, in the original pissing animation, pissing scene loops and so lasts longer. Here it plays only once.
adding new pictures for pissing scene is possible but it would be a painful job, renaming and all those stuff again!

For MIUI Roms just another method...
Animation:
Download the boot animation file and rename it bootanimation.zip and place it into the system/media folder. Go to theme manager and under the "boot animation" tab select "default." No need to change permissions.
Sound:
To hear the boot sound you have to convert the file to ogg format then place it into the system/media/audio/ringtones folder. Go to theme manager and choose the file under the "boot audio" tab. You can name it anything you want. No need to change permissions. Ogg converter here.
I went ahead and uploaded the ogg file here for you guys.
@vqt This method worked for me...can you post a tutorial for ogg format, plz and thankyou

i don't know anything about making a boot animation but does it have to do with the frames/second. Usually i unzip a boot animation and look at the png's, it is like a flip cartoon book so i don't know if you need more frames in there to make it more smooth.
Yup its like a flipbook and the more frames taken the bigger the zip...I've been trying to solve this issue. I use powerarchiver to make the zips....but it really doesn't compress them much I think this animation alone was 235 still frames here's the tutorial I used incase anyone wants to learn http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096068

[Q] Anyone knows how to make the bootanimation play in landscape mode? (fullscreen)

I'm trying to create my own bootanimation and was wondering if any of you guys know how to make it play in landscape mode?
I'm not aware of any way using the desc.txt so you'll probably just have to rotate the images.
Yup. Have to rotate images.
Assimilated via WinBorg 4G
Do I have to change the pixel resolution? I have it 960x540 right now.

Without downloading your files, (I am at work and don't have the time right now), I would say you probably did not zip the files correctly.
1. Download and install 7-Zip.
2. Highlight your boot animation files, (CTRL or SHIFT and left click).
3. Right click on selected files.
4. Select 7-Zip > Add to archive.
5. Set Archive Format to Zip and Compression Level to Store.
6. Name your zip file accordingly (e.g. bootanimation).
7. Click OK.
Your bootanimation.zip should now be zipped correctly.

OK, I did the work for you. It was the way you zipped the boot animation up. Here is the working animation:

Remember to rename it to bootanimation.zip

Yeah, I found that even at 32bits, the animation works, it was the last return after the last line in desx.txt file that was killing my animation.. haha.. but, I try to save in .jpg as it takes up less space and I couldn't tell the difference between the .png and .jpg boot animations...

[Boot Animation][PC] Gif2Boot - Create boot animations from GIF files (by BLuFeNiX)

I serendipitously discovered a PC utility for creating boot animations from GIF files. Navigate to this thread by Blufenix. It's self explanatory; just download the zip, extract, and run the Jar file.
Seems to work well. I used it to create this lovely Melanie Iglesias boot animation (attached, untested) :good:.
This is great! Check out the bootanimation I just made from Ace Ventura for my EVO 4G. Resolution 480x800. Feel free to use it yourself. Rename and place in the correct directory on your phone. Have fun!

The gif you provided is corrupted (specifically the first frame). I suggest you find a different source for this animation, or try to repair the gif with a tool like gifsicle, imagemagick, or some online gif editor. I tried to repair the gif myself (http://i.imgur.com/iLUXgw8.gif), but it looks bad (the first frame is a bit grainy), you can use it if you want, but I'm sure there is a better way to repair it.
jeffreylin_ said:
Ah, I see. Perhaps in the future you should implement a feature that notifies if the .gif is corrupted. I'll be using your image, it seems okay to me.
Oh, and how would one know if a gif is corrupted?
Click to collapse
Yes, I should include that feature. This is the first time I've seen a gif corrupted in this way, so I didn't know what to look for until now.
I discovered that the gif was corrupted by making my program skip processing of the first frame (which made it run fine). This got me suspicious, so I opened the gif in an editor and saved it again. The other frames remained identical, but the first frame changed.
Thanks for using my program, and if you need anything else just let me know!
jeffreylin_ said:
Also, it seems that my phone is 480 by 800, not the other way around. When this was made into a boot animation, the program appears to have rotated the frames and then converted it. So on my phone it is horizontal. Just thought you might want to know.
Click to collapse
Yes, that is an intended feature (I should probably make that more obvious with some kind of documentation). If the image is wider than it is tall, is will render in landscape. If you don't want that, you can try the "center frame" option. It will try to intelligently crop the sides of the image to fit your screen correctly, and render it right-side-up.
You should make more detailed instructions like
1. download
2. extract
3.open command window where you extracted (shift+ right click, open command window here)
4. type: "java -jar gif2boot.jar"
5. follow instructions on screen
