WebOS file explorer to browse shared drives via VPN? - TouchPad Themes and Apps

Just as the title states, is there/whats the preferred app for mapping a network drive location via VPN in webOS so that I can access those files? I would like to setup the tablet to be able to access my work VPN and network folders remotely, the VPN right off the settings menu seems to connect fine and it says I am secure, but I have no way of actually browsing the VPN itself.

No one has the answer? I would like to know too

Add my Titan to home network via Wifi?

Is there a way to add my TItan to my home network via Wifi (not 3g) so I can access shared files on my PC? And vice-versa?
Turn on wifi and connect to your home network...
Not sure if there is software that supports Windows' file sharing though. You might have to use something like FTP instead.
The titan has built in wi-fi... you can connect it to your network that way.
If you wish to access files on your PC, you'll need an application capable of doing that. I dont think the built in file explorer does it. I use resco file explorer. There is an option to map network drives. I find that once you enable wi-fi and try to connect to your PC it takes 60 seconds, and is pretty fast after that.
I know you can also use activesync to connect to your device over the wireless. this should get you the functionality fo connecting to your device from the PC.
Edit::
I had to use pocket hosts to make my device talk to my PC.. and it was tricky to setup. This was another device with Windows mobile 2003 on it though... havent tried with WM6.1.. Maybe it got easier.
Install the attached cab file. Add any shared folders from your home computers onto your Titan. Add network shared folders from Start | Settings | Connections | Network Plugin.
This will let you access your network files on your phone. Not sure about the other way around. You can try \\your.wifi.phone.ip\program files\ to see if you access your phone's folders through your home computers.
Not at home right now, so can't test the home computer to phone mapping - let me know if this does work for you.

I keep getting a "Map Drive failed" error.
Here's my settings:
Remote Path: \\ASUS-F3JM\Public
Local Name: Public
When I click "Map Drive" I get the error. Any ideas?
I was thinking it had to do with Domain/Workgroup settings on the phone. How do you specify those? However, when in the settings of HTC Network Plugin, I can browse to Network Neighborhood--> ASUS-F3JM, but there's no folders showing up under my computer. I already checked and made sure sharing is on on the laptop (it shares just fine with the other pc's on the network).
ps - i'm using Vista Business 64bit on the laptop
Some more history - this used to work pretty well under WinMo6.0, but was causing the below error on occasion in 6.1, and also on the TouchPro. I always have a FTP server (http://filezilla-project.org/) running on all my machines at home, and end up using a browser (opera mini) to connect to my home drives via the ftp method. Works well if you are downloading off the home machines.
I haven't found a decent ftp client for winmo that allows true add/delete files across both connecting systems.

Yeah, I have the latest version of dcd's ROM, obviously using WinMo6.1, so maybe I'll have to try the ftp thing when I get a free minute.
As far as I know Resco File Explorer will allow you to browse FTPs as if they are local files and Mocha FTP is freeeware now (it is an FTP server for Windows Mobile) so you can use that to copy files to you phone from other computers.

I use Resco File Explorer to access Shares on my Home PC's via my WiFi Lan. It works very well. It can save links with user names and passwords so I can just turn on the WiFi and make a quick connection.
A follow-up: I had the fortunate experience of having to hard reset my Sprint TP, and went through the process of installing the HTC Network cab listed above. Mapping a shared drive directly, without going through the browse feature failed.
However, it did work, when I browsed to the machine, selected the shared folder, and provided the correct login credentials (domain information not required - at least in my case, as all machines are in the default: Workgroup).

[Q] Problem with Proxy Pac, in rooted Phone

To access the Internet using Wifi I need to go through the proxy server of our organization. Usually in a Windows Desktop we configure to get the DNS server automatically and use a proxy.pac (some thing like: http: //SSS.SSS.SS.SSS/proxy.pac).
I have rooted my Xperia X10 mini and tried anProxy and TransProxy, but failed to go through the proxy server.
Is there any way out or work around to access the Internet through our proxy server?
Thanks in advance!
I know this is old, but this is an ongoing problem and I figured out how to use a .pac proxy file! After reading about proxy's and what .pac files are, I stumbled upon a little hint and after a little tinkering I was able to use my work's wifi that uses an auto-config .pac file and my phone and tablet has full internet access with browser, apps etc including Netflix for example.
Here are the steps you need:
1) Your phone has to be rooted to take advantage of the proxy apps on the market, I personally use ProxyDroid, which is free and has a feature to bind certain proxy profiles to automatically turn on when a certain wifi network is connected.
2) Usually there is an option that gives you an http proxy pac file to manually input to your browsers or what not, so whatever the link is, put it an active internet browser to download the pac file (an example of the url with the pac file would be something like http://internet.xxxxx.com/proxy.pac)
3) Where ever you download the pac file, open it with notepad or wordpad and this will reveal all the proxy info you need in order to access the proxy enable wifi. What the ProxyDroid app needs from the PAC file is the Host url and Port number. When you open a PAC file in notepad, you'll see something like this near the top along with a bunch of other things under it:
"Cisco Remote Envelope Service
if (dstHost=="internet.e-mail") {
return "PROXY internet-x-x.xxxxxx.com:9090""
- So in "Host" under Proxy Settings in the ProxyDroid app you would input: internet-x-x.xxxx.com
- For the "Port" you would put input: 9090
4) After inputting those 2 pieces of info into the ProxyDroid app, turn the wifi on for your Android Device then enable to ProxyDroid app, you should able to connect to the proxy enabled wifi!
*Some notes for the ProxyDroid app.
- It allows for Authentication, but since my work wifi does not use that, I'm not sure how it would work
- For Proxy type, I set it as an HTTP
- I binded the specific proxy profile to my work wifi so it would ProxyDroid would automatically enable when work wifi was detected
Hope this bit of info helps other that have Android devices and were unable to use a proxy enable wifi to finally access them. Hopefully in the future, Android will make using proxy and pac files a lot easier like how it's done on the ipad where they allow you to manually set up proxy settings by having the device download the PAC file.
This works on both a rooted AT&T HTC Inspire and a HP Touchpad running CM7 Alpha
This looks like a resolved issue, but if anyone else is reading this, there is an easier way. Check out Autoproxy on the market. You can add a new proxy, put in the address to the proxy.pac file, and it will connect to the current proxy.
That's also good if you're on a network where they keep changing the proxy (like the place I work).

How do I connect LG Vortex-VZ's Optimus One-to my company Wifi and use apps over it?

I have recently purchased an LG Vortex (from what I read is Verizon Wireless's Optimus One) that comes with the Android 2.2 operating system installed. I have looked into rooting my phone with z4root and have successfully temporarily rooted my phone. I would rather keep my phone unrooted, but if it is absolutely necessary I will root it permanently with z4root.
My question is this: How can I connect to my company wifi and use apps that require wifi?
I can successfully connect to my corporate wifi through the 802.1x EAP protocol. The problem comes when trying to access any of the apps that require internet (I am forcing Verizon's data plan not to be used--using wifi only due to 150MB limit on my data to save $$ per month). None of my apps seem to work--internet browser, Market, Gmail, Google Calendar, etc...
On my company pc I know that within internet explorer the box is checked that says "Use automatic configuration script" and gives an "Address" that is in the format of "..../proxy.pac" It looks like my work uses a proxy for things to connect to the internet. I have no such place to put this information in my LG Vortex. I downloaded an app that seemed promising called "Proxy Settings" which will allow me to enter in the following Hostname and Port. When I tried to enter the "..../proxy.pac" as the hostname it gave me an error stating "The hostname you typed is not valid."
Is there an app or something that will allow me to use my apps when connecting to my corporate wifi? Is it a proxy setting thing or a VPN thing? I am not sure. I am open to any and every idea so that I can use my phone's online features while connected to my company's wifi.
FYI - I have friends that have iPod touches and they are able to connect to the internet with some apps internet browsing and downloading apps, but they have a similar issue of not being able to use all of their apps as well. I believe they were able to put the "..../proxy.pac" address in their devices somewhere.
Thanks!
I am a new member on this forum but I decided to reply because I have a question and a possible solution for you:
-solution:try to download the *.pac file. You will see that it is probably a script that defines your actual proxy's ip.So you could try and figure out which is your actual proxy's ip.Then use this ip for the proxy-app. (However I am afraid that only browser will connect properly, not every app)
-and now the question:how did you manage to connect to the network?I have trouble connecting because the wifi settings menu doesn't seem to help.
I try to connect to a 802.1x EAP network and I have installed the required certificates but I don't know what to fill to username, password fiels.

[Q] VPN Connection

does anyone know how to make a working vpn connection with the touchpad?
i couldnt get one.
i have win 7
tried vnc too,
did anyone get an working vpn connection?
works for me. my proxy server uses pptp so i download pptp plugin from market and all's good.
I think if you have an ASA you can try the built in anayconnect client provided you have a mobile license activated on the Cisco otherwise use IPSEC on your gateway device. I never played with pptp on the touchpad before.
I saw this but what can I do by joining a VPN?
is there someone who can write up an a quick tutorial for the ones that dont know how to do it.
that would be apriated.
i want to control windows 7 remotly with it

Bump... Same question. Out of all the people who have recently bought the touchpad, there has to be someone out there that can give a short explanation on how to use the native VPN capability to connect to a Windows system. I have searched all over the net for the answer and have come across many unanswered forum threads.
Below are instructions I used on Win 7 to create an incoming VPN connection to make it available to be connected to.
pcworld. com/article/210562/how_to_set_up_vpn_in_windows_7. html (take the two spaces out of the link, cant post links yet since Im a NOOB!!)
Step by Step: Building a VPN (Incoming)
Step 1 Click the Start button, and, in the search bar, type Network and Sharing.
Step 2 Click Change Adapter Settings in the left-hand menu.
Step 3 Click File, and then New Incoming Connection.
Step 4 Select the users you'd like to give access to and click Next.
Step 5 Click Through the Internet and select Next.
Step 6 Select the Internet Protocol you'd like to use. (The default TCP/IPv4--the line highlighted in the screenshot below--will work fine.)

On the touchpad when using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN connection type and enter the host name, I get this error "Connection attempt has failed due to configuration issue with server"
When using the VPNC connection type, and enter the host name and password, I am prompted to fill in several fields that I dont know what to enter.
I use my laptop to log into my Win7 desktop all the time easily via the Remote Desktop Connection app. Hopefully there is something similar coming to the touchpad.
I have an openvpn subscription with strongvpn - this works well for the technically deficient peeps like myself to have an added layer of security when using windows machines in a public wifi area (i.e. hotels)
I asked strongvpn about any support for webos, and they were not sure of any workarounds to date. Any new ideas on this? I am using an open vpn (as opposed to their ptpp). They said that on rooted android devices open vpn will work following one of their tutorials.
If you are technically sound only then you will be able to set up a VPN and solve these kind of issues yourself..Average PC users like me will avoid indulging in these configurations as they are too complicated for us
Why not try an already established, reliable VPN service provider for touchpad??
you can definitely Google them and can choose amongst the choices you get..That would be far easier believe me
[Q] VPN support
I was wondering if anyone has tried vpn support on the touchpad? I am looking at using it overseas as a way to watch amazon VOD while I travel.
Edit: Found out I needed to download a free app from app catalog for PTP support. Works now when I connect to my school network. Also I found out that playon services work too on touchpad so I might try that for netflix.

[Q] Windows Shares & Prime

Hi all,
A few variations of my question seemed to have been asked but I've not really found anything that has helped me.
I would like to clarify with any of you network guru's the correct setup between my PC and Prime for browsing network shares (or indeed just my entire PC if poss).
Currently my Win 7 PC sharing settings are as follows:
Network Discovery: On
File and Printer Sharing: On
Public Folder Sharing: Off
Media Streaming: Off
File Sharing Connections: 128 bit
Password Protected Sharing: On
I have a number of shares already setup from when I was using my Home group (which is now disabled as I use a separate app for managing media across the home network). I've tried variations of the above settings with no luck (e.g. Media sharing on, password protected sharing off etc).
I've fiddled with the permissions on some of the folders so that either 'Everyone' or my Windows user account has Full control however the Prime refuses to see these shares. It detects the PC (I've tried ES File Explorer and File Expert, which in the past have worked with other Samba shares which puzzles me even more) but refuses a connection as either Anonymous or with my Windows credentials entered in both apps. Other network apps connect fine (Splashtop HD, Plex, SABnzbd+ etc).
Help? I'm pulling my hair out at this stage as I just don't see why this is so hard... As mentioned, my Prime has worked with other SMB shares (I used to have a NAS for example), File Expert even worked briefly when I had the homegroup enabled but I don't want that running anymore as I want greater control over my network shares (realistically, the only person I want viewing/editing files/folders on my PC is me and likely only from my Prime).
Sigh...
