NFC tags - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I am currently on the fence (don't know whether to get Evo lte out sgs3). I want to know of the Evo well play nicely with NFC tags the same way as the sgs3? Anyone try it out yet?

A thread here about it.
Anyway, I do personally have some and it works awesome especially with NFC Task Launcher. Its integration with Tasker is awesome. I can turn my PC on by just touching a tag (literally).

Thanks a lot!

NFC Tags on the EVO 4G LTE

I bought some NFC Tags to see if they would work on the Evo 4G LTE, and I was clueless! There was preformatted, ultra lights, and etc. I had no clue which ones would work. Turns out the first ones I tried, worked great on my EVO 4G LTE and Galaxy Nexus!

Thanks for the video. I've been contemplating on getting some. Just trying to figure out what I would use them for.

You're welcome. They are just cool, that's all. I truly can see the whole "CM9" and "Profiles" coming in handy! I would stick one in my truck and tap it every time I got in it, to set my phone to loud. lol
I can think of a few things to do with NFC tags, just need to get around to ordering a few.
Anyone have any recommendations on what to get? I'm assuming the larger capacity tags are good, esp for writing complex tasks.
I think NFC tags are rather useless. I keep wanting to use them but can't think of a useful way of using them. If want to put my phone on silent, I'll just use the volume rocker thank you very much. Could someone even tell me what complex task can't be done with just a few strokes?

I have 4 NFC tags.
1) For buddies that visit me frequently to launch Foursquare and check-in to my place quickly
2) A simple Normal to Silent profile toggle. Comes in handy when my daughter is napping. And is much quicker to use since I don't even have to unlock my phone to use it.
3) A switch that toggles a Do Not Disturb profile for bedtime. (I would not be able to toggle this easily without an NFC tag. I would have to set it to a specific time each day. Which is lame)
4) A switch at work that will put my phone into Vibrate mode and launch a ticketing website that I use for work. Then when tapped before leaving it puts my phone back into a Normal profile and sends a text to my wife telling her I'm on my way home. I keep this one by my light switch and turn my light on/off with phone in hand.
NFC tags aren't useful for everyone. But it's definitely helped me automate some of the more mundane and annoying tasks I do every day. And saves me a bunch of time doing them.
I think I need to get some of these...
I just got a pack of them and idk how i was able to live without them. One in the car that toggles betwin bluetooth on and wifi off abd it launches the music player. Other on my bed that turns all volumes down and my alarm sound up. They are nice to play with.

1st: to make them more useful I used the mod to allow their use during screen off and lock. If I had to turn on the phone and unlock it NFC would be much less useful.
2nd: I don't have any complicated tags. The main one I use turns off wifi and toggles Bluetooth, and starts Multiplayer. So after I start driving I just have to touch the phone to the dash and my music wirelessly starts.
Its not complicated but it is much better than having to turn on the phone, unlock it, scroll to my widget and turn on Bluetooth. I never have to look down off the road.

Why does it have to be a complicated task? Why not just tap your phone to an NFC tag to mute it? or Pop open Pandora when you sit at your desk at work?
Yes, tasks are simple, but they are also repetitive in a lot of cases. Why not have the phone do it for you?

Have a mixture of tasks per tag.
One example is my office desk's tag:
Ring: Off/Vibrate
Notifications: Medium
GPS: Off
WiFi: On
Media Vol: Off
Display: (max)

Tags For Droid. They're the best bang for the buck. You get the largest storage size I've seen at 1KB and a free keychain tag. And they cost the same as others of equal quantities with much less storage, that I've seen on Amazon.

[Request] NFC while screen off.

Hi
I hate to request things if I can't do it myself. Anyways is there a mod out for the DNA that allows NFC to be on while screen off. For example I have a NFC fan built into my wireless charger that opens an night stand app. It gets annoying when I have to make sure the screen is off. I would like it to be able to unlock the screen( I have no password) and then continue to its business(open the alarm clock).
Thanks

Ah. Ok. Well, you can accomplish a similar task but without using NFC from "Secure Settings": https://play.google.com/store/apps/...pYmxlb2JqZWN0LnNlY3VyZXNldHRpbmdzLnBsdWdpbiJd
At least, I think you can. I haven't dug into the app too much yet.

Need, or want? If the app launches your dock app when docked, doesn't that cover what you need? (Not that I care - want is fine, but... what does using NFC to launch the app buy you?

App to enable Bluetooth when I want it to?

Hi all.
I have a galaxy S3 4G and was wondering if there is a app I can download that will enable Bluetooth when I get into my car? I hate having it on and sometimes forget to turn it on when I need to drive somewhere. If this is possible please tell me how

Here's an app that can turn stuff on and off depending on GPS/wifi data location. That would drain your battery a bit though, not to mention your car isn't always parked at the same place.
There's no link ? And it has to be when I get in the car. I was just thinking when something tries to connect to it, it activates it.

Nfc tags might help. Paste an nfc tag somewhere in your car, and there are apps that can set up you phone to trigger certain functions when your phone's backcover touches the tag.

Using IR?

Hey,
I wonder if there's a possibility to use the build in IR Sender/Receiver? It'd be awesome to build an app with IR support

Looks nice, but I wanted to build an own app
Well if this person is a developer then you should be able to make your own app utilizing the IR Blaster. I'm guessing it will involve you needed the source for the IR, but if this developer is able to use the HTC IR, then maybe the source is either open source or a standard source for IR Blasters. Maybe you can contact them and ask how they accomplished it.

Probably won't be your answer but htc is offering an Api for devs and supposedly released sdk for it ..

I love this app... My local sports bar hates it though...
But the phone already has the app built in why pay 10 bucks for an app that the phone already has built in. I use mine everywhere. It's great whenever I have to stay at hotels because sense tv even tells me what's on.

My TV didn't work with the codes in the default app, nor was it able to "learn" from the remote for whatever reason....the SmartRemote of HTC app on the market for $5 worked perfectly.
No idea why, but that might be one reason some folks might choose not to use the built-in app.

Double tap app?

Does any know of an app, something on wanam, or a mod that will let you double tap to turn the screen on? I've looked but haven't found much... Currently on Rooted stock rom. Thanks

Only option appears to be a play store app. The one called Tap Tap app seems like it does the job, but the reviews are less than stellar.
As my E4GT aged and the buttons became less dependable, many of us started using Gravity Screen On, an app I can personally report as highly functional, does the job (differently), yet takes a degree of patience to get it behaving the way you want (can drive you nuts, but get past that, and you may be pleased),
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree
As to natively doing this, I've seen it tied to kernels for HTC phones, the Nexus series (not just the LG variants, but the tablets, even the Galaxy Nexus), but as to the Note 3 specially or an Xposed module, nada that I can find.
Would love to have it. Wouldn't buy a phone without a replaceable battery or am external SD, but that is one cool feature. I hope someone corrects me on this and unearths something.

I'm pretty sure it's tied to the kernel.
Though I've seen it done with the internal knock sensors.
It can be a huge pain to get working reliably.
The screen at the moment has to be on to accept input.
It sounds like a cool idea.
Then reality sets in....
Actually if you could implement this without...
Errant random screen taps waking the phone.
Battery drain from having to keep part of the system up watching and interpreting screen taps.
Hmmm mm

That at least confirms my suspicion. At least you can give Gravity Screen On a whirl. The free version has full functionality, and your battery doesn't take too bad of a hit on the process. Like I said, it's not something you immediately love, but you can get used to it, and does the job well. It just doesn't work the way the swipe to wake or knock to wake features work.
