[Q] can't get my note connected with KIES - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hello guys.
I recently bought the Galaxy Note i717 locked to Rogers (Canada).
The seller told me that he has installed custom rom on the device. I thought it would not be problem but it seems like my phone is kind of laggy compared to others'.
I tried to connect KIES to install the original ICS firmware but my mac does not recognize my note.
The message on KIES when I connect USB cable is that ' device not responding '.
I tried turning on/off the phone and USB debugging mode.
I haven't back up my phone as I could not get it connected with computer.
My phone is samsung sgh i717
Android Version is 4.0.4
Broadband version is i717UCLE2
Kernel Version is
3.0.9-perf-I717UCLE2-CL526350
[email protected]#1
Build number is IMM76D.UCLE2
Please let me know how I can upgrade to normal ICS without losing data..
I am really stuck and new to Android System. (therefore I am a noob)
HELP ME!!!!

Install CWM Recovery and you can install any of the custom roms. All you have to do is install CWM and put the downloaded rom on your SD Card and install it with CWM. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526431 and download the one that says ODIN in the first post then read the instructions to flash CWM Recovery with ODIN in post two on the page link above. Now you can flash roms without needing your computer. Now you can head over to to the development area for the I717 Note and pick a rom to flash with CWM. make sure you read the instructions for each rom cause it will tell you to do a full wipe on most and you do that inside CWM. Another tip is that you will never ever need KIES and the only use for it is having the Samsung driver that get installed with it so your PC will sync with your device. KIES is kinda useless.
EDIT: you probably already have CWM installed. Before going and tryin to install it hold down the power and volume up volume down at the same time and the device will shut off but keep holding down those three buttons. Now the device will vibrate and the Samsung logo will appear, let go of the power button but keep the volume buttons pressed in and CWM should pop up after a few seconds. If you have CWM already installed do not flash it again just find a rom and flash it through CWM like I stated above. In CWM the volume buttons move you up and down the list and the power selects.

Go to this thread for a quick tutorial on flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586223
There is no "original" ICS firmware for i717. As of yet no i717 ICS firmware have been released by carriers, save for the unofficial leaks, which you seem to have.
If you want to go back to stock firmware of Rogers, make sure to do a factory reset in CWM and then flash a stock GB ROM. The other choice is to wait for the official ICS release from Rogers (which I hear is coming this month) and then flash that when it comes out.
Otherwise, search for stock i717R GB firmware on the forums, put it in SD card and then flash it using CWM.
If you don't want to lose your data you could try using Titanium Backup from the play store to backup your apps and data, flash your firmware, and then download titanium backup from the play store again on your new firmware and use the restore function (if you are flashing a stock rom, you need to root first before using the restore function). Don't know how well that would work though, never tried it myself.

[Q] SGS2 I9100 broken?

Hi. I have a SGS2 for 6 months, and yesterday I tried to update from 2.3.5 to 4.0.3 ICS. I used Odin -> vol- -> home button -> power to get into download mode and did all those stuff. [It was the official Poland md5 file, no root]
It didn't work, getting everytime boot.ini error. After that, I tried exactly what's on the bootloop topic and then here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458 to get back on my 2.3.5. Everytime I got the samsung logo and yellow triangle [only when I used the stock kernel], others md5 file over 250mb never flashed/ passed odin.
+ the symptoms below
Enters Download mode but does NOT enter recovery mode (usually means a NAND rw corruption)
Doesn't flash
Bad flash in odin (FAIL after flashing, or the flashing suddenly stops)
I checked every USB port, uninstalled kies but not the usb drivers, used 2 different cables and only rear usb panels. Tried different firmwares for i9100, like 12 or something.
Now my battery died, [low battery!! can't download..]. I don't have any other i9100, so no other battery.
What can I do now beside praying that it's not broken?
One USB recovery jig to force download mode
Two Paid for JTag repair
Three Paid for service centre repair.
Four Donate a brick to the new XDA building .
jje
I'm able to enter in the download mode. Assuming I get a charged battery, what should I do next?
Last time I used stock 'Kernel_I9100XWLA4' and that yellow triangle appeard + 'GT-I9100_DBT_I9100XWLA4_I9100XXKI4_I9100DBTKH1', but this one failed.
Do I really need to take every update and see if it works on my phone?

Flash a stock GB firmware do not flash ICS .
Get the phone in working order is the first step .

I just downloaded the official gingerbread [2.3.4 september - i9100] firmware from samfirmware.com.
still doesn't work. stuck at boot.bin
l.e.
all these problems after I watched and did everything I saw on a youtube video [How to Unroot/Unbrick your Galaxy S2 i9100! [ICS]]
Now I got a battery charged up, I can use download mode, flash any stock kernel [but stuck at loading with yellow triangle], and never flashed an official update [2.3.4, 2.3.5, 2.3.6 or 4.0.3] stuck at boot.bin
I also found on another forum someone with the same problem on a i9100G. He used a pit file and repartition, but after all researching everyone says it is some risky way.
You said you tried 2 different cables... I would buy a brand new cable (can be generic microUSB) and try again. I've seen more than one person have to try three before they found one that worked.
The second usb cable was from a friend with an identical i9100. still tried with some no-name cable and no result.. also I installed usb drivers from samfirmware and tried different rear usb ports.
Now I flashed Kernel_I9100XWKI4. It shows Samsung logo and yellow triangle. If I try to flash any other firmware, it just fails.
You using a Windows 7 machine? Try running Odin as administrator. And I would STILL try a different, DIFFERENT cable.
yes, w7. tried to run it as administrator, still no result.
I don't think usb cable is the problem.
OK, but I'm just saying, there was a thread where someone had to try three cables before they found one that worked. I'd also try a different computer. Unless that computer/cable combination works with your friend's I9100?
hi,
i am new to this forum.
Only after buying the G-version of S2 in India and using it for a few weeks, I came to know that it was an inferior version to the non-G version (in the sense that it is not only under-clocked but has far lesser custom ROMs to choose for the updates).
I might sound silly, but AFAIK, there is no official Samsung ICS for this product. I don't want to get my phone bricked and I can't find a proper ICS Custom ROM either. From what I've been reading elsewhere, the Samsung Official ICS for S2-I9100G won't be released before May (After Galaxy Note in April)
Can somebody suggest me a STABLE ICS ROM for this device? And yes, you'd have already gathered by now, I am a newbie when it comes to the complicated issues of rooting/flashing/and what not.
Thanks in advance.
I read about villainrom 1.1, tried to flash it now but after 3 minutes of loading it failed. Now I'm back on stock Kernel_I9100XXKI3.
I don't know if that second usb cable was used for any updates through odin.

For an I9100G? There isn't one yet.
And it's rude to try to hijack someone else's thread, dude.
I solved it!!!!
Congratulations
Would you care to share the solution to the rest of us?
I chose randomly 'Kernel_I9100JPKF3' from a list [probably I should've checked that this was the very official version of my phone] and flashed it with some i9100 odin version from an arabic website/blog. After the reboot, I saw there was no triangle and it booted normally.
Thanks ctomgee and jje for your time!
Happy for you that you have solved your problem
Best idea, if youy have problems go back to stock, SHIPPED rom.... Never failed me yet...
yep. now I see that the wireless connection is not as stable as it was before. It has lots of moments when it's disconnected from wifi by itself.
I'm not using any battery life saver and the router is fine.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
If you have the heart to venture that route again, to fix wifi issue you may want to use the ultimate kernel cleaning script and retry with the shipped or ICS kernels.
Also if you haven't yet, must read the guide to fixing unflashable soft-bricked phones.

Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant - At my witt's end.

Okay so, basically I wanted to install Slim ICS. I was on a 2.2 ROM, with a froyo kernel.
I switched to the CM9 Glitch Kernel, and that went fine, but I had forgotten to transfer the ROM that I had planned on using too, and could no longer get past recovery (for obvious reasons).
Now, I'm stuck in a recovery loop, Windows 7 64 won't pick up my Samsung Vibrant (Either nothing happens, or it attempts and fails too install drivers), so basically I'm stuck in recovery. I've been trying to get Mass USB to work for over three hours now (Tried several different computers in my house), to no avail. This is my /only/ phone, and I really need to load a ROM.
ANY help would be appreciated.
To sum this up:
Stuck in recovery loop (CM9 Glitch Kernel)
Windows 7 64 isn't recognizing my phone (All drivers installed, it just fails to access the phone)
I've tried all USB settings in Glitch Recovery, and none of them allow my computer to connect to it as mass storage.

its not wise to upgrade from Froyo to ICS, as your boot loader may not be compatible , you should first upgrade to gingerbread, save your EFS folder than flash a CWM kernel to upgrade to ICS
anyway to solve usb problems look in My Android Solutions
to get your phone working use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509 or the vibrant thread for help , if its a BELL you can use i9000M Rescue kit from My Android Collections , if its T Mobile look here or use SGH T959 Vibrant Eugene No Brick ROM Froyo 2.2 from My Android Collections
Need a guide, look into My Guides and Manuals
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card, after flashing and reboot , insert them back
Tips before Flashing:-
Backup all your important files, contacts, SMS, game data, images etc to PC or
Ext SD card. or make Nanadroid Backup If you have CWM
Backup your EFS Folder to PC or Ext SD card
Enable USB Debugging on Phone. Touch menu> Settings> Applications> Development>
Charge your battery to more than 50% before you attempt any sort of flashing.
Disable Samsung KIES when using Odin. Kill Kies.exe, KiesTrayAgent.exe, & KiesPDLR.exe using Task Manager on PC
Use only ROM and solution for your model and Wipe x3

New to android, need help

hello guys I bought my first android fone, S3,
it was preinstalled with 4.1.1 version I updated to 4.1.2 using kies but it only changed the version, I was hoping it would format everything and would start my s3 from brand new stage but it didn't, I want to know how can I install 4.1.2 thru pc and it installs the rom from scratch and s3 should boot like its out of box.
kindly tell me step by step which files I need and how to do it.
and like I said im new to android so I have no idea what to search in this forum.
thanks.
***NOTICE***
Before doing this do a back up in the recovery menu, search Xda if you aren't sure how. I'm not liable for any bricked, whether soft or hard, devices. Only use your DEVICE SPECIFIC ROMs and/or Kernels.
***NOTICE***
First off, Google Odin, download and install it and download and install your phones drivers to your computer, search on the forum for the KERNEL SPECIFIC Stock ROM for your S3, there are TUTs on Xda here on how to find out which one is for you, now, once you have the ROM downloaded normally its in .zip format, run Odin as administrator, right click it and select run as administrator, now, plug your phone into your computer and put it into download mode, Volume +/- and power at the same time until you see a yellow triangle, now press the Volume + button to continue, after that look in Odin to make sure you have the yellow COM number, you'll know if you have it, its highlighted yellow and says "COM:4" the number doesn't matter and may be different, if you don't have the COM number then re-install your phone drivers, now, open the Stock ROM .zip file and extract it to your desktop, open Odin and click PDA,now select the .tar file for the Stock ROM and press start and Wa-La, your phone should re-boot in approximately 10 seconds if all goes well.
Hope this helps.

[Q] AT&T GNote on T-mobile service(signal & Odin issues)

I bought my girlfriend an unlocked at&t note for use with T-Mobile. She is having a bad echo when making and taking calls. And even when she is not on the phone sometimes it goes straight to voicemail when someone calls her. It is on the stock 2.3.6, nonrooted firmware. So I figured if I updated to ics or jb that might help and I want her to be on up to date android. My problem is when I try to update to ICS 4.0.4 with Kies it will go through all the motions but when the phone goes into download mode it is no longer recognized by the computer and the update stalls an the phone just sits in Odin mode. I've tried to refresh the stock Odin tar using Odin but the same problemarises the computer won't recognize the phone while it's in download mode. I know the drivers are installed because when I plug in the phone it will pop up autoplay but it just doesn't work while the phone is in download mode. PLEASE any help is welcomed because I want my girl to STFU with all her complaiBing. Many thanks in advance
If you still have the stock ATT modem on the device, you need to flash the blaze modem for T-Mobile ...(my advice )
You will need to push a CWM recovery image to the device.( effectively giving you root access ).
Then download the blaze modem .zip from the super thread in the general section, and flash the modem with your new clockwork mod recovery.
Odin can be picky with devices. Make sure you have the latest Odin version, and it's clean.
Next, you need the correct cable ...(stock Samsung cable )...if possible.
Next ....only use a rear pc mainboard port, not a front low priority port.
This often causes time out errors, as priority tasks will close non-priority ports.
Odin is also susceptible to anti-virus programs, and you should temporarily turn off these programs when using Odin, then turn them on when finished.
The super thread has many links to other threads describing the "how to " aspects of T-Mobile connection, and they will help as well.
And lastly ....tell the little lady that STFU means ...I've almost got it done ....LOL ...
Happy flashing ....g

[Q] Samsung galaxy S2 with gingerbread rom not recognized by Windows nor Odin

Hello,
I've got a friend who never updates his old S2 phone so he always has the original rom (2.3.3, I9100XXKDJ, GINGERBREAD.XWKE2).
So, as I already used Odin to update som Samsung devices, I decided to update its rom to put the last supported for the S2, so the 4.1.2
I wipe data in recovery mode but after, impossible to detect phone on download mode from Windows and Odin.
The funny thing is that if I try with my S2 (with a 4.1.2 rom) in download mode, no problem, it's recognized by Windows and Odin (with a color square)
The only differences I see between my and its S2 are :
- version of rom and therefore version of bootloader which are very old
- his phone is always simlocked with his french operator, but normally, there is no reason to interfer with Odin, no?
However, once his phone configured (with always his old rom as I could not flash another), I tested the mode storage usb and no problem, the drive was recognized by Windows, but impossible to recognize anything in download mode.
Somebody has an idea?
Thanks

Hey there,
Since your friend has GT-I9100, you can try this guide to update his OS to a newer version: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/samsung-galaxys2-i9100-unroot-official-jellybean-firmware-460777
The guide is very good, as it provides official drivers and OS/PIT/MODEM etc. You should try to install the newer version on any other Windows PC(If you can try to arrange one), as your PC is unable to detect his phone's download mode.
Need any further help? Don't hesitate to ask.

Ok,
In fact, there is no problem to download the new rom to flash.
The problem is the detection of his phone by WIndows and moreover Odin.
If I follow your links and specially http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/samsung-galaxys2-i9100-unroot-official-jellybean-firmware-460777, I remark that in that page "USB Drivers " doesn't work unfortunately.
But that's strange, because I installed Samsung USB Drivers which works on my S2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and S5 4G+.
So why there is problem with his S2 and specially in download mode (as I said above, the usb storage between computer and his phone works...).
Maybe I could ask him to desimlock his phone with his french operator and retesting even if I think it's not the root cause...
I tried also to try samsung update menu from his phone, but as it's too old, it finds nothing.
Edit : Maybe also interesting to try with a WIndows XP virtual machine + Kies which is the official software, and maybe will recognize his phone to upgrade it.
Thanks.
