[Q] What Smart Actions Are You Running? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Just got the Maxx and so far I'm lovin it.
What Smart Actions are you guys running to help extend battery life? There seems to be a lot of possibilities.
Here's what I have so far:
1.Trigger:
*Wif-Fi Connection
Action:
*Cellular Data (disable)
*Bluetooth (off)
2.Triggers:
*Display (off)
*Charging (not charging)
*Motion Detector (no movement)
Action:
*GPS (off)
*Background Sync (off)
Anything else that might be useful? Can too many actions drain battery life?

I know a lot of people who set their 4g/wifi connection to turn off once the screen has been off for 15 minutes or so. I'm a programmer so my smart actions are never-ending IF statements. Here's some of mine:
Name: Sleep
Trigger: Late-night --> early morning, not charging
Actions: Data off, wifi off, GPS off, display 0% brightness, timeout 15 seconds, sync off, silent
Name: Sleep charging
Trigger: Late-night --> early morning, charging
Actions: Everything on except GPS, brightness 0% (burns my eyes otherwise), silent
Name: Work
Trigger: Wifi on & joined work Wifi
Actions: GPS off, timeout 15 seconds (incase a coworker tries to grab my phone), silent
Name: Charging
Trigger: Daytime
Actions: All sounds set to Loud, no display timeout, adaptive brightness, everything else on
Name: Low Battery
Trigger: Battery < 10%
Actions: Everything off except 3g
Some of these settings increased my battery performance substantially, with weak use of my phone I can make it last about 48 hours (regular RAZR). Never use Bluetooth so I keep it off 24/7

I used Tasker instead of SmartActions

It's interesting to see what settings others use. I don't use Smart Actions, I froze the app so it won't run.

+1. And I can still go for 2 days with the maxx. Don't see the need for it.

I use trivial things, like loading Spotify when I plug in headphones (more often than not, an Aux cable). And of course the turn off cellular data while on Wifi.

I use quite a lot of actions
1. Sleep
Trigger
- Time : midnight - 00:30-06:30
Action
- Silent and vibrate
- screen timeout 15s
- brightness 0%
2. Wi-Fi
Trigger
- any wifi
Action
- disable mobile data
3. Conserve battery notifier
Trigger
- Time : afternoon - 12:00-18:00
- Battery <50%
- Not charging
Action
- notification remainder
4. Low battery
Trigger
- Not charging
- Battery <25%
Action
- Brightness 5%
- Screen timeout 15s
- notification remainder
5. Meetings
Trigger
- Calendar event (work)
Action
- Silent and Vibrate
6. Low battery-USB charging
Trigger
- Battery <35%
- USB charging
Action
- Brightness 10%
- Screen timeout 15s
7. Alarming battery
Trigger
- Battery <10%
- Not charging
Action
- GPS, Bluetooth, data, background sync all off
- Screen timeout 15s

Smart Actions is freezed on my RazR

first off I recommend you delete the trigger "Motion Detector" from your number 2, I find its sensitive to the slightest movement and seems to override the screen off trigger (meaning whatever your disable with this action will run just from the phone moving even if the screen is still off)
by default I have GPS off completely, on the rare occasion I need it I will turn it on manually.
I use one primary Smart Action and that is a reprogrammed "Battery Extender" with
TRIGGERS:
Screen Off
Charging (not charging)
ACTIONS:
Background Sync (Disable)
Cellular Data (Disable)
basically with these settings when the screen is off its equivalent to a "dumb phone", you can recieve calls and texts but no "push" notifications, this increased the time between charges by atleast 20% for me.
Also as I say in all these threads not forget to regularly (atleast every 2 weeks) power cycle (shutdown then reboot) your phone, I went like the first month of owning without ever shutting it off and when I got in the habit of doing this I noticed atleast a 10% increase in time between charge compared to never shutting off.

Why is android system draining my battery?

I have rooted my phone, then downloaded cpu master. didn't use it and uninstalled it. then i noticed that my battery is dying extremely fast. I assume that for some reason that the cpu is just being left on draining power, so i reinstalled the app and set it to power saver, and its still doing it. any ideas whats going on?
my phone was fully charged, i went to a movie so it was off most of the time. before it started i sent a few text messages, checked twitter for a few min. but for 80% of that time, id say, it was in my pocket with the screen off.

Probably just a rogue app running in the background that got hung up. Chances are either rebooting your phone or killing all open apps (hold the home button to bring that up) will solve your issue.
its been doing it for a few days, not just this one time, this is just the only screen shots of it i have taken. i'll try a reboot, because im not sure if if have done that or not. but i have killed off all apps and it still drains it
this happened to me a few days ago, i fully charged the phone while deleting all the recent "iffy" apps that i got that couldve caused this, then once phone was fully charged and apps were gone i did a battery pull and it seemed to fix the problem. not that any of that is a 100% fix obviously but like said before it can be an app that is doing it just running/crashing in the background. click on the android system in the battery menu and see if any of the programs coming up are anything new or look bad.
Beware of the Facebook app. I noticed that it always runs about 8% to 30% CPU usage, even on my old Sprint Galaxy S2 running on ICS You either have to kill it with the task manager each time your done or just uninstall it and go into Facebook using the browser. I noticed on Gingerbread that wasn't an issue. If you are running the Facebook App, check its CPU usage. Also check the usage of any other running apps. They will alarm as "yellow" or "Red" when they are over a certain percentage.
You know, this seems to be a bug for a lot of people. I'm running Blazer rom 1.6 and had this issue earlier today. There's a couple of other people too who have gotten this bug. To fix it, I just reset my phone when I it was at 2% then once it was at 1% I recharged my phone completely. It seems to have fixed itself doing that. This is some weird bug tho.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I did a reset, and am charging over night to get a full charge. will see how it goes tomorrow. If its still bad i'll try resetting it around 1-2% then recharging, see it that will reset whatever is causing it to drain so fast.
Hi all,
I also notice this and this were the steps that I did and seems to help me to reduce this process to like 5 %. I'm on Sprint S3 but should be the same for the all carriers.
Go ahead and open Talk application. You should see your account in green (I'm not using this application) then hit the menu and then select sigh Off. Make sure that your account changes to Offline (sometimes it is change back it self so open one more time make sure that it says Offline). Then what else I change is in wi-fi advanced options: under Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep I choose Only when plugged in option. then I reboot the phone and from now on (almost 2 days) my Android system process show up only 5% of usage and my battery life improve significantly. I hope this will helps.
Thanks
ok thanks, i will try this.
I logged out of google talk, then hard closed out of the app. Set wifi to only stay connected while sleeping when connected to power. Ive had my phone off the charger for an hour and 45 min. With 25 min of screen time and my battery is down to 70%. Android system is taking up 60% of the battery. And double twist took up 24% I have airsync and airplay turned off. This is driving me crazy, I'm getting like 6 hours of total battery life that's with about 4 and a half hours of it being asleep.

exact same thing is happening to me. I flashed into a custom rom yesterday and had amazing battery life, and today the same old crap I had on stock.. same thing you're experiencing, is back. I bought autorun manager in the play store today and basically turned everything off. I'll see if that helps tomorrow.
so far it seems to have worked today.
I had this problem as well - traced it to an awesome app called "Birthdays" from the Play Store. Some bug with the otherwise great app was killing my battery. 10-15% drop without use, per hour. If I were to reboot it would go away for about 24 hours then suddenly battery starts plummeting again. Once I uninstalled the app, my battery was stable once again.
it also seems like keeping facebook completely disabled with autorun manager is helping a lot

[TASKER] Share your best Tasker profiles!

I noticed that other subforums already have this thread. Why not in Note 2 subforum?
Please share your Tasker profiles.
I have a bunch of profiles to:
- adjust screen brightness depending on time of day and on app loaded / maximum brightness when phone is ringing;
- launch music app and set media volume to 11 when headset is plugged (my way around page buddy -- I'm using Nova Launcher so no page buddy...);
- silence my phone during working hours and if I am within the office vicinity;
- maximum volume when Google Now is launched;
- various connection profiles (turn off mobile data / wifi after certain period when display is turned off; turn on airplane mode at 10% battery level; turn off mobile data while playing most games; etc.)
Sorry I'm sharing in paragraph form instead of (pseudo-)code but these profiles are simple enough to be understood without the pseudo- so...
I'd love to learn from the Tasker experts here. Please, do share your profiles.
Mine:
* Turn on wifi when around home/work area (based on net loc) and turn off when away. Optionally turn off keyguard as a matter of convenience.
* Log when calls/sms's are received/sent and add Google Calendar entry with details. Useful for missed calls or reading SMS's when don't have phone.
* When in car (via NFC), turn off Wifi, turn on Bluetooth/pair, media volume up, launch music app, log location, turn off keyguard and add Google Calendar entry. Reverse when tagging out of car.
* When sleeping (via NFC), turn on airplane mode, notifications silent, punch in to sleeping app (Sleepbot). Reverse when tagging out when waking up.
There's one which I've tried from profiles and the wiki but doesn't seem to work - which is to disable Wifi / Bluetooth when not connected/not in use.
- wait for 2 seconds after headphones are connected, then turn media volume to full (I rarely use headphones but I connect my phone to my car stereo aux often to listen to podcasts); the 2 second wait is necessary because the phone itself turns the volume down when you connect the headset
- when connected to home wifi, disable the pattern lock and say "phone unlocked" in a robot voice lock once wifi disconnects, say “phone locked"
- set display rotation to auto when certain apps are on (cf. s note), turn off on exit
- start a timer when a certain nfc tag is read, say "starting tea timer", after four minutes say "green tea should be ready now", after eight minutes say "herbal tea should be ready now"; in British English with robot voice effect, of course
I also have some nfc tags that set different profiles (morning/night, leave home & come back, enter/exit car, silent mode on/off)
Disconnect mobile data when on WiFi.
Data off and sporadically on after screen off.
No cell network voice announcement.
Cell network resume voice announcement.
Sync data on WiFi.
Sync off after turning off WiFi.
All volumes 90% at 7am with voice announcement.

I just read your post's saying NFC and was seriously confused. After doing a little research, I'm now in shock and awe that I didn't know about this before. I'm assuming from what I read you guys bought NFC tags and used some tasker magic with 'em I noticed there's like a thousand different types types of tags, stickers, metallic stickers, etc. What ones did you guys get, and really what would be the cheapest route to go that would be able to handle activating a tasker profile. Thanks in advance, you'll just made my day with this amazing revelation

I've setup a profile where it puts the phone in vibrate mode while at work (using cell tower) but I can't figure out how to get it back to the original state Sound with Vibrate when I exit that cell tower's range? It goes back to sound but not sound and vibrate. I'm sure I'm missing something, any guidance would greatly be appreciated.
Could a profile be made for when using Gtasks app and checking a task as "Completed" it creates a calendar entry with time for when that task was completed? Any guidance would greatly be appreciated.

I have mine set to disable my lockscreen pin when I'm connected to my home wifi connection and enable it again once I disconnect, turn 3g off when connected to wifi and on when disconnected, turn GPS off when I launch Facebook since it always tries to get a lock and turn it on again when I leave facebook, and I have it set to turn auto rotate on when I launch certain apps.

Hi guys,
I'm going to guide you!
This tutorial is making your phone talk when connecting a power source.
Ready?
Open Tasker:
Go to profiles tab (if you aren't already)
Create a new profile
Choose "state"
Click on "Power
Click on "Power" again
Click on "any" (choose a state when you
want your phone talks)
Press your backbutton
A new window will pop out
Create a new task
Click on "new task"
Enter a name (you don't have to)
Click on the big "+" button
Click on "misc"
Click on "say"
Click into the area which says "text"
Type the phrase you want your phone says
when plugging in a power source you
selected earlier.
Press your backbutton and try out your
freshly made profile.
Enjoy!

First two turn data on or off if screen on or off.
Next one lowers cpu and governor with screen off.
Next three adjust cpu and governor based on battery level
Last one jacks up everything while plugged in to a power source.

Hello, everybody.I'm new here. And there are always something wrong with my Samsung mobile.I hope we will have a good time here.
My profiles are all time based. almost all based around my workday.
Ex. After 10pm until 8am, I have all sounds and alerts off except for ringer.
During day, I use WIFI and BT, normal sounds
On weekends I only use WIFI, but no BT no GPS and different ringtones.
When on power (AC) I have all on WIFI, BT, GPS and a brighter screen.
and I have a group of tasker profiles for my Pebble smartwatch.
I have an On Call profile that has special alerting triggered that takes priority over other things based on calendar info.
Tasker is what you make it. It's well worth learning to use as you can automate most things.

Looking to make a TASKER profile
alright since this is kinda a thread that might answer this question, I need some info, so I'll ask if somebody can help me with setting up the following.
I need a profile setup for Tasker that sets my wallpaper based on whether I'm at work or not based off of whether or not there's a WORK event on my calendar and what time that event happens. (I work at a Sprint store and I need to make sure that my wallpaper is more "customer friendly" during my shifts and can go back to what I want it to be when not.)
If anybody can give me some pointers as to how to do this, I'd be your friend for life. Or at least until you can't answer a question, whichever comes first.
Since someone asked me to share my flick phone to take a picture (like moto x) profile you have to adjust sensitivity to your preference
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
I have a few pretty simple tasks setup:
Profiles:
Night Mode
Triggers: power AC , time: 23:45 - 7am connected to home wifi
entry task: Night Mode ( SMS Backup, Silent Mode, Lampshade sunset,Auto Brightness Off, Display Level 0)
Description:Backup all new SMS using smsbackup+ perform a "sunset" using the Philips Hue lightbulbs I have in the bedroom and put the screen brightness to extremely dim.
exit task: Night Mode end ( auto brightness and silent mode set to off)
Morning Sunrise
Triggers: Alarm Done, connected to home wifi, time 6am - 11am
entry Task: Sun Rise (lampshade sunrise)
description: when a phone alarm goes off first thing in the morning whilst at home perform a "sunrise" effect with the Philips Hue lightbulbs in the bedroom.
Silent In Lectures
Triggers: calendar entry at my university address.
Entry Task: Silent Mode On
Exit Task: Silent Mode off
planning on adding a few more useful things, but the ones that I have seem quite nice.
I have a ton of tasker tasks setup mostly having to do with the lights in my house (all with voice commands, ex: turn on christmas lights, turn off kitchen light, etc), but some others are to directly call contacts without waiting for google to confirm who the contact is and so on and so forth, start playing any random netflix video i'd like to watch with voice command, start the sonos sound system in my house with voice command, make my phone ring when i lose it by sending a text containing a certain string of text from any other device/phone, turning my hotspot on automatically when connected to the bluetooth in my car, when disconnecting the bluetooth it auto shuts off the hotspot, switching my notifications on my smartwatch on when a certain string of text is sent to the phone.
On my tablet that i have as my entertainment system in my car i have tasker as well and as soon as it connects to the hotspot from my phone it automatically starts recording my drive with video, than opens google music and starts playing my music, than opens waze. When the wifi connection to my phones hotspot is gone it turns everything off on the tablet and just sends it back to the homescreen.
One task im still trying to get going is the ability to turn on and off the television which i've seen before just cannot seem to find the module i need to do it, since i dont want to use the same i'd use for lamps afraid it will burn out the tv and not work properly.
I just started playing around with tasker yesterday. Coming from Llama, I found that it takes longer to learn tasker but the rewards were so much greater. Here are two profiles that might be useful for others too.
The first one is to reject a call from my gf and create a button on the screen so I can call her back on my unlimited plan.
I included a vibration pattern there so I can get some sort of alert going on after the incoming call is rejected. You can of course add a ringtone there as well.
use a phone ring event to trigger following task:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tbgjtewdebdnitn/Ring_Back_DM.tsk.xml
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vkxxbpjqoc07uiv/Call_Dm.scn.xml
The first file is the task, the second one is the scene that creates the button to call back. You will need to edit that 2nd file to add your own number to call, just look for ###replace### in that file.
To dismiss the button without calling back, just tap and hold it.
Another task I made after I saw somebody mentioned about displaying current address in Dashclock. This one involves google map geocode api and a little javascript.
To conserve battery, this only shows you a rough address. If you need accuracy, you can add a action at the start to turn on GPS for say 30-60 seconds.
Also If you want to use the address somewhere else instead of showing up in Dashclock, just replace the last action with your own. BTW, you need to install Dashclock tasker extension before running this task(if you're keeping the last action).
Use a cell ID variable set event to trigger this task:

As described it just turns on the AOD on notifications. If there are no notifications the AOD is disabled.

Uploaded aodNotify 1.02
• Added support for: Tap to show AOD
• AOD manager update
• Stability improvements
Enjoy!
I always gets AOD when I'm tapping (With or without "Tap to show AOD" enabled)
Another Q: Do you've and idea why the clock / icons appears in different location each time AOD turns on ?
Thanks
Great app. Could you make it turn on AOD for a few seconds then turn it off? Just like Oxygen OS
Working perfectly. Thank you for your work.
Brilliant! I actually googled if this was a feature before I bought my S10e, and was saddened when it wasn't. Such an obvious thing I thought, and voila, 2 weeks with my phone and you made it happen. Thanks!
Can confirm that Tap to wake is always enabled like previously reported.

Please try latest release 1.03.
Should be online soon
You can also check system AOD settings and turn "Tap to show AOD" off.
As always, great jawomo and its Apps. 2 possible functions:
- turning on the screen when notifications arrive
- turning off the AOD after unlocking the phone, but without having canceled the notifications
Great job for the app. I also had a flow for that .
Would be great if you could add an option to turn on AOD when charging...
Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk
Works great, thanks!
Great job.
2 ideas
- turning off the AOD after unlocking the phone, but without having canceled/read the notifications or turn of with power botton
-add compatibility with program for light hole, for example if I use AOE the always on display didn't appear.
That app works great so far...
There are a lot of users like me that doesn't want to have AOD enable... In all my Samsung devices I m always using glimpse notifications to just light up lockscreen when a notification arrives and when screen was off i was just informed from led light notifications.
Now with S10+ there is no led notification so i had to find a workaround with AOD, circle camera notification and glimpse notifications.... For now my set up is
1.Glimpse notifications to turn on lockscreen and see details from recived notifications
2.Your app to turn on AOD and when lockscreen turns off show notifications there instead
3.Holie Light with hide AOD (to doesn't show clock or other informations only black screen) to just show only notifications in camera circle...
(Holie Light is the only app that works great with glimpse notifications)
So im using 2 3rd party apps and AOD to make my phone works as i want
It would be great if you could add "light up lockscreen when a notification arrives", and "circle battery notification led" to have all settings in one app...
Thanks for all the feedback. I have lots of new features on my list. More to come soon.
If you have any questions or suggestions, let me know.

I used it on the S22 ultra and the previous devices as well. It is one of the first applications I download for all my Samsung devices. The S23 ultra also works perfectly. Again, many thanks for the development.
There is no way I can describe how useful this is for the Galaxy phones. Had it on S21ULTRA, carried it over to the S23ULTRA...a true life saver.
I even combined it with Professional Reminder so I never ignore missed calls and texts.
Two thumbs up for the app and its author.

Although I use these two applications. Perfect couple. It would be good if the knowledge of the prof reminder could be integrated into the aodNotify application.
Hi, is there anyway to also hide the finger print scanner icon? I just want to show the notification ring around the camera on the AOD. I also have the setting "AOD Manager" enabled. Previously, I used this on my pixel 6 pro and the icon was hidden.
I was just curious if the developer of this app was going to continue to develop the side actions button remapper? I noticed it is not on Play store anymore. I can't get the power button to work but the volume buttons still work. I know this is the wrong forum but I searched and couldn't find the other. Thanks.
What about battery? Is it drain a lot?

Yes, you can change this behaviour in the system's fingerprint settings: Settings > Security and privacy > Biometrics > Fingerprints > Show icon when screen is off. There you can set it to Never or Tap to show (like I did).

On my S23 aodNotity had about 1% battery consumption during the past 9 hours (during the night) ... and I received some notifications early this morning.
IMO this is really low and worth it.
Good to know!

Yes, I am also waiting for @Jawomo to release a kind of side actions app for the S23, or make it compatible for the S23. (The app ist still on Google Play, but not compatible for our devices. So, it is not listed when browsing with an S23 in Play store.)
Meanwhile I have set the double click action of the power button to launch the flash light "app": Settings > Advanced fatures > Side key > Double press > Open app and select "Torch".
Disadvantage of this solution is that I liked the camera to be launched be double clicking the power button. Now I must double tap the screen an drag the camera icon to start the camera app.

Have you tried "RegiStar" from good lock? It gives you a bit more setting for the side button. I currently have 2 press for camera and one long press for flashlight.
Hi, just purchased the full version as this is exactly what I'm looking for, thank you.
The one thing I don't seem able to control is the lock screen showing up after the notification disappear. I'm hoping I'm just being a numpty and have a setting somewhere which will sort this out for me. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thank you.

Please provide a little bit more information.
You mean lock screen or always on display?
So, your screen is off when a notification is received. A small notification bubble is displayed at the top for a short time (about 1 second), then it moves into the app icon and disapears. Then you should see the notification light (like set in aodNotify), and with aodNotify Manager app installed, the rest of the screen should be "black".
You should check your aodNotify settings in "General" section. There you can set always on display settings (mine is "Don't show"), enable aodNotify Manager (mine is enabled), and disable waking up the screen (mine is disabled).

Maybe it's a combination of aodNotify and system settings. Battery consumption is influenced by many different things.

Yes I always liked using my power button to double press for a screenshot long press for the power menu and then long press and hold for full screen UI. So right now I'm still using it but only using the volume buttons. So I have volume hold down and I get a screenshot and then in the regular settings I have double tap on the power button set to flashlight and long press set to power menu. So I'm looking forward to him updating it also.
