[Q] Touch Light Keys on the white S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.
I just wanted to confirm something regarding the touch light keys(menu and back keys) on the white S3.
When they light up, the surface around them will also have some dim light probably because they're too bright.
Is this normal? Does this happen to all white S3 users?
I attached a photo to make my poor description clearer.
Thanks a lot.

turn them off

Yes, happens to all of themthem
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Yes it happens on mine also.

Thanks for the reply. Now I'm relieved.
One additional question, does this happen on the blue S3 too?

Same here, i just turned them off because you cant miss the buttons. And i think the phone looks better with them off.

It happened on my white one - I call it the halo effect. That's why I swapped to the pebble blue. It doesn't happen on the pebble blue.

So it doesn't happen on the blue one.
But I still love my white one, bored of dark colour already although the blue S3 is kinda unique.
And yes I'm gonna turn them off, looks clean and sleek.

This is normal. You will also notice that the notification LED will have the same effect e.g. blue LED - whole front of phone will turn blue when the LED is on.

Does not happen on the Blue one.

It's not a problem.
All white models are made in this way.
If you don't like, turn it off.

On this subject. Does anyone know of a way to change the brightness of the buttons? I have them off atm but would like them on but dimmer. The light blur looks quite cheap and is a design oversite in my opinion.

I would be very interested also in any solution to adjust the brightness

It would be great if there's an app to adjust the brightness of the touch light keys!

Any news about the adjustment of the touch key brightness?

I've turned them off. I don't get it at all. Why do the buttons light up? What information is it giving you? "Don't forget - this is a button - press it and something will happen. In the case of the back button what will happen will be entirely unpredictable 90+% of the time! Might go back, might quit, might even take you to a page you've never been to! But you can press it!"

Any news about it? Someone knows if it's possible to adjust the brightness of the touch keys?
Every solution is welcome

I have white s3 and I prefer the lights like that.. looks cool.

It looks way to bright and it's blinding me while I'm watching at the screen by night... :-\

Xperia Active Light Bleeding

I just got an Xperia Active Billabong Edition today. My problem is that the lower right screen is bleeding. It's not the screen itself. It's actually the blacklight of the capacitive "menu" button. When I set the screen timeout to 2 mins and the capacitive buttons shut off before the screen does, there's no light bleed. Anyone else with this problem?
Yea i got the same issue. I have persuaded myself not to look on the bottom right corner
I think its a manufacturer error...

Thank god. I feel better now that I'm not the only one. Which active do you have?

i have same thing......does not bother me at all.......
Same error here.
Newly aquired Xperia Active with bleeding light in lower right corner, and it really annoys me.
That an the fact that the phone sometimes, without reason, goes into a vibrating spasm which usually do not last longer than a minute.
And sometimes the phone looses connection with the SIM-card, and I have to turn the phone off, and the on again to be able to connect to my carrier.
So it's a common problem? I think it's a manufacturing defect.

Anyone else experiencing this? My seller said his last unit also has this light leak.

I see the same thing. I just decided not to care
Me too on st15i
I also have the vibra-spasms
I didnt have them on CM7 tho. I think its Kernel related more than anything,
Same for me - don´t think about .............
BTW - it´s a famous fone and really water resitent - i tried this out yesterday.
That's just terrible quality control! It's alarming.
Strange thing is people aren't bothered by the inferior quality of their products.

It's quite hard to capture it on photo but it's on the lower right. It's caused by the capacitive buttons light leaking on the LCD.
It's very visible at night specially on a black screen or just when you unlock unlock phone using the power button from sleep.

I saw that you made a thread about this on my "home" forum as well.

It's updated.
Hey,
have you ever tried to use the app "Screen Filter"?
The app should allow you to turn off the backlight of the softkeys!
Can anyone check if its working with the Xperia Active?
Let me know please... i dont have the phone, but maybe soon i have...
Same Here, i think what happend on my active
Please can anyone check if the "Screen Filter" app works on the xperia active?
There you can choose "disable softkey backlight". With this option the effect dont appear anymore...
please advice
Screen filter and unselect "Enable soft key backlight" works well. Soft key backlight is disabled, also when unlocking the phone.
The disadvantage being that in a dark room, you'll now have to "know" where each of the three soft buttons is (which probably isn't a problem if it's your phone and you're used to using it).
Thanks a lot! Happy to hear that...
Is there a possibility to autostart Screen Filter or have you to start the app manually after a reboot?
Thanks a lot again

Light leak from left touch key in dark ??

Hello guys, now its been almost a week since i've had my s3 but yesterday night before going to sleep, i just unlocked my phone in pitch black darkness and what i saw was white light originating from the left capacitive key extending to the screen which looked really bad like a screen burn or some kind of weird white patch on the screen as if i've cracked it, and if it were from both keys i cud have convinced myself that its normal but its only the left key! and its not at all noticable even in a little light and if your screen is not using a dark black background.. so what do you guys suggest me to do? can you guys check your phones in a fully dark room with black blackground and touch keys lit up?? and will my warranty consider this an issue and cover it? i feel so bad right now :/
I'll check later tonight, but I generally have those lights permanently off since my S2 as the intermittent on/off at every screen touch is an annoyance particularly when watching videos
I would suggest turning them off, the buttons are easy enough to find in the dark plus you save a little bit of battery.

Yep right its leaking, turn mine off ALWAYS plus its better looking when turned off
i dont know how but getting to know that the rest of you have it, i feel fine now and as most of you said, i'll turn them off, thanks

i dont have it and i also turn off those capacitive lights. either you have to live with or go far an exchange.
You sure?
Are you sure?
It can only be seen in a dark room and with a black background on the phone.
I dont like having flaws on my new stuff. I am gonna try to exchange it.

I went to the dealer and they said that they would send it to the shop to check if it really had a failure, and if it had a hardware failure they would exchange it in one week!!!!!!!!!!! i will just stay with my phone as it is. It is more possible they will really screw it on the shop with something really bad to worry about, and I bet that the next one will have the same flaw or another even worst, so I prefer to stay with mine.

galaxy i9300 back key light problem

hi all i own the white version and i notice that when i am in a dark place and the lights of the back buttons is on its kind of splash to the screen...
since then i disable this function and turned the lights off at all time.
i just wanted to know if that a known thing or is it just a problem in my phone...
If you mean you can see light through the phone, then all white phones do that. The blue doesn't. But not sure if it goes all the way and affect the screen.

[Q] Lights on buttons not coming on enough

Has any one else found that the lights on the buttons only come on when it's really dark? When I'm in low light I can hardly see the buttons, I have to put my hand over the light sensor at the top to make them come on. It's as though the threshold to darkness needs to be lowered. Ideally the lights would be on all the time like my old Incredible S but I can't see that happening anytime soon.
I've spoken to HTC about this and of course their stock answer is that the lights work fine and it my be an issue with my phone but I have a couple of friends who own the original One X and they report the same issue. It's not a huge thing as I can usually hit the right button with out looking but it's pretty annoying - especially when showing it off to all my iPhone owning mates in a dimly lit pub...
Same here. Seems to need to be really dark before they come on. Anyone found any setting or app to sort this out?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
Hy
It is normal .... And there are no setings for that.
The light goes on only if is realy dark or the Sun is shining on the Display.
And you can Prof if is something wrong with the lights by puting you Finger on the light Sensor ( other side from front cam )
If the light is Not going on then you have a problem.
Cheers

Thanks guys, so it seems that this problem is universal to the OX+ and not just my handset. Hopefully HTC will actually see that this is actually an issue and sort something out for the 4.2 build. A sensitivity slider would be nice or an option for always on - after all, how much power do them little lights use anyway?
Agreed that this is very disappointing. Obviously you can instinctively get it right after a while, but the whole point is that a smartphone of this standard should be as responsive as possible.

Any idea what you did to get them to start working again? Mine won't light up at all with the exception they will "glow faintly" in a totally dark room.
Do you have power saver on? If so I think it affects them
No, it's off. I've now heard they don't light at all unless it is very dark. Very different from my HTC One X where the buttons are lit even in daylight.

I hope a future update allows these buttons to light up in less than pitch black conditions because I do have a difficult time seeing them when at my desk.

Mine stopped working for about 20 minutes one day and I just rebooted which worked for me
I think that the buttons are semi auto bright bc I've noticed at times when it's brighter they are dimmer and only fully lit when there's no lights
Sent from my HTC One (AT&T silver) using XDA developers app
I also have an HTC One X and One X + and the buttons glow very bright. On the One, they will glow in a nearly dark room, but are still very faint and nothing like other models. I guess it was a design flaw that somehow made it to production. They say the new update fixes the touch problem with the buttons, but nothing about the illumination. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if HTC can and will fix the issue.
I'd be satisfied if there was a toggle to just turn the button lights on or off. There's an app for this in the play store called Soft Buttons Light but it doesn't work on the One.
