My Razr setup to fix annoying problems - Motorola Droid RAZR

I hope this makes some users enjoy their MOTO RAzrs even more!
First thing I noticed is how bland and boring the UI is on the razr and the lack of a very nice clock / weather widget like HTC has.
Fix
DL, "go launcher ex" then search Fancy clock widget it like looks very similar to the HTC sense clock
2nd was how absolutely horribly laggy the picture gallery is.... when searching photos and even worse the zooming feature.
Fix
I Found a free app called "QuickPic" Initially it took longer to generate the thumbnails but once that was done it is Veryyy fast scrolling thru photos and the zoom works flawless even zooms much further than stock picture gallery.
3rd was the sound.. again absolutely horrible compared to my HTC incredible popping sounds low voice low bass, I didn't even want to listen to it.
Fix
I read on here about DSP and how apple uses it to enhance the sound so i did a search for DSP and came up with the "equalizer" app. Even without changing any settings it was a night and day difference in sound quality, then you can adjust as necessary. This app runs in background and changes sound for entire phone so once you set it you never really have to go back to it, use Pandora or any player and it will work.
4th I wanted to root to gain wifi tethering but was afraid of bricking my new phone or having unforeseen glitches annoy me even further.
Fix
again Found here on XDA forums a nice app called "FOXFI" no rooting required no fee. Just free wifi tethering with your 4G razr i love it.
5th Im sure we all know about "aptoide" an awesome collection of free payed for apps deff a must have!
6th I just received my "DIZTRONIC" Case and i love it! Very tight fitting quality made all cutouts are in the correct location Very happy with it.
Link to Diztronic site This is the one i purchased in Matte black (has gloss front to it)
http://tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=44_59&products_id=236
Other nice widgets i use
"Brightness widget" by curve fish Fast access to changing screen brightness
"Battery life widget" by curve fish Nice looking battery level widget customizable

Lux is the best brightness adjuster ever !

Text-To-Speech: best free is Ivona, but the overall best is SVOX Classic.
SVOX got their servers fixed over the weekend, so one can even install the voice data.
When I get texts or emails, my phone says very clearly in a sultry female voice "Sir, you have a message from NAME" where NAME is the name of the person from my contacts.
My phone will happily read me a story.
I change the voice when I'm bored: en-AU Olivia, en-UK Victoria, en-US Grace, en-US Dark Lord.

Badass Battery Monitor will add a 1% battery to your notification panel and even estimate (based on usage) how much the longer the battery will last for before needing a charge.
Percentage seams spot on except for the last bit while charging up, it will leap from from like 95% straight to 100% like the stock battery thing does when charging.

Anyone find any great looking Wallpapers for the Vibrant?

If so post them.
Just look for 960x800 images/wallpapers. They're all over the web. I've found lots! XDA, Google, etc.
Im using a nice looking Live wallpaper called Quads. Kinda has that line wave the default PS3 theme has. Makes the phone look really sleek

wallbase.net is a good site for Wallpapers. They're all different sizes but if I like one I'll take the 5 seconds to resize it properly in PS. Also interfacelift, but I think everyone knows about that site.
I'm kinda bummed that I have a year's worth of VGA wallpapers collected and now I need to change sizes. Oh well.

I'm having trouble finding high quality wallpapers. Even if the resolution is 960x800 or higher the quality of the image itself may look jaggy when set as wallpaper.look at the preloaded wallpaper and it is crisp and clear and almost pops out of the screen, but all the "hd"wallpapers I have downloaded so far are not very crisp like the preloaded wallpaper once set as such. I'd like a black theme wallpaper too to take advantage of the supposed battery life increase.

so I downloaded a couple wallpapers in 960x800 size. When I go in to set them as my wp it makes me select a cropped area and makes the wp look like crap. How do I make the entire image my wp?
By look like crap you mean it looks too zoomed in?

Yeah it was all blurry. I figured out how to properly crop though. I kept trying to pinch to zoom, but then I tried dragging one of the borders and it resized it properly. Looks good now.
On the app market search for "Backgrounds," it has a large amounts of wallpapers to select from.

I have a small collection of mostly "babe" walls here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/shrivel
Me and a few friends all share a secondary dummy Gmail account on our android phones. Picasa is the only option set to sync on the phone, as such we can all dump wallpapers to this Picasa account and they will show up on all of our phones in the gallery. Its a pretty neat trick and one gigabyte of free space is plenty enough room for quite a few wallpapers.
Most of the galleries are 1920x1082 images, but they look great once cropped.
The first gallery is one of my favorite current artists, Audrey Kawasaki. These images are meant to be used with alternate launcher apps like ADW, that allow you to turn off wallpaper scrolling. If you hide the status bar in ADW with one of these images selected it will give your screen a nice rounded look.

Better Lockscreen Needed for Android

I'm reposting this from another thread I was in, but I wanted some general thoughts from the community.
One thing I think that iPhone does better is the lockscreen. I know Apple stole the notification bar from Android, but they do a better job with the lockscreen.
I can't figure out why Android won't put more information on the lockscreen. Info like text messages, who called me when (missed calles), email.
I used an app on the iPhone that was nice, the Lockinfo program. It required a jailbreak, but it was cool. http://www.lockinfo.net/ It was really nice.
I've tried a few alternatives in Android, but nothing seems to work quite as smooth. I've tried widget locker + pure messanger. Wasn't a smooth experience.
Thoughts?
I actually find the iPhone lockscreen to be quite cluttered. I recently came from an iPhone to a Nexus S i9020a and loving ICS so far and the great community.
I still have my iPhone but I've had times where I would get multiple notifications on the lockscreen and the entire screen is filled with clutter. First there's the date and clock area, then you got the bottom slide, then the middle gets filled with notifications. I find it bothersome actually. I much prefer the lockscreens on Android and Windows Phone.
I guess I enjoy seeing my background more than who called or contacted me. I can see that when I go into the app itself.
I guess its a personal preference to what you would like in the lock screen. However all your notification do appear in the notification bar.
Try MiLocker
Actually, Android has a much larger variety of what you can have on your lockscreen. I've had simple setups that just show missed calls and texts. I have my current setup that shows missed calls, texts, new emails, and allows me to go directly to those as well as music, camera, and home screen from the unlock slider.
If you run MIUI you can also run a setup that not only shows current status updates but also gives you a preview of the most recent. Take a look: http://gadgetdesire.blogspot.com/2011/12/miui-theme-slidescreen-ls.html
Bottom line is you can have as few or as many updates as you like on Android, just a matter of your preferences.
And if you want something simple to use with android search the web for txtmissed. Great app, just no longer under development.
TXTmissed on my old Widget Locker Screen. Takes you directly to calls log or default text service:

totally agreed. it would be nice to have a pop-up on LS when i have a missing call or a text.
MIUI rom will show you how android does with the lockcscreen, its never been better
Seconding MiLocker here. Didn't want full blown MIUI but the lock screen choices are pretty ridiculous in number. Been happy with it and it seems to be fully customizable.
you can use widget locker i think
i find it not enough configurable... i want to see my coming sms.
Maybe give GO Locker a try
Go Locker needs Go Laucher to work. Sadly

Can't find TSF launcher?

Download Lighting Launcher, free and looks to offer the same features of TSF, just found it on the market and watching the video now..... Looking great, but will report how it compares to my other launchers-nova prime, adw ex, launcher pro...
Sent from my 4G HTC Rezound
Lightning launcher is pretty plain jane and minimal features. No comparison to the others.
IMO...
Better than Launcher Pro, and I do like the single, scrollable homepage... A little quirky though if you have the homepage able to rotate according to the accelerometer in the phone because for whatever reason you can only scroll up/down in portrait mode and left/right in landscape. Adw ex and Nova are superior but for free I can't complain at all.. With a little more development and polishing will be a great option. I'm going to give it a spin for a week or so and see how the battery performance is compared to the other launchers.

Isn't it TSF Shell? $16.80 in the market.
Nevermind.
Went back to launcher pro for S&G today.... surprised by how paltry its performance is on ICS, I remember when LPP was the greatest... I had to give the app 1 star Fc's swiping between my homescreens... Smh

I'd probably user lightning launcher just for the cool falling effect of app placement. Also has anyone seen if TSF shell is working alright on our device? I've been following it for a while, but am tight on funds, so not really wanting to risk something that won't work.
Have been following TSF too, but haven't found it yet... I wouldn't side load it either... that seems like an app you would want to have your official updates pushed to you through the market because it is so new and still (hopefully) in full development stages
***to be clear this is not Lighting Launcher.... It is actually called Lighting Launcher 3, the original is soon to be depreciated from the market, and sorry for the confusion. ***
Update- I am loving the simple yet completely customizable layout ofvthis launcher, it has grown on me very quickly, and unlike anything I have used and really enjoying it... Hopefully the dev. will make some small adjustments to aid with some unique issues... for instance scrollable widgets work but they are very peculiar...

of course not. Why pay that much for something on your phone that you use more than any other thing???
The above poster hit it right on the head.
I have purchased spb mobile shell on both winmo and android and have used it enough to justify the purchase.
Haven't tried it on the rezound yet though...
interesting, installed mobile shell 3d on the rezound and it defaulted to tablet mode which makes the icon smaller (though usable), and gives you more area to install things.

[Q] Weather App??

On my old HTC Tilt 2 I had an animated weather part on my home page that updated automatically.
What app can I get to have this type setup? Free is preferred.
GO Weather is what I'm using, sounds like what you'd like. Widget, lock screen and/or live wallpaper.
This appears to be the one I want. How do I get it to replace the one on my home page?
I'm on GO Launcher, so not sure if TouchWiz is the same, but if you want to swap widgets, a long press on the existing should give you an option to delete. Then menu-->add-->widget should give you a menu option of GO Widget, where you'll find weather.
Try 1 or both of these...

I have tried the ones mentioned, but have not found the one I want. The one I had with my old phone would show rain and windshield wipers if it was raining and wind if it was windy, etc.
Are there any like this out there? It also would automatically update the temperature every so many minutes.
Beautiful Weather has the options for unlock animations which looks pretty sweet.
HTC sense 3.5 4.0
I assume your last phone was HTC with sense 3.0 or 3.5 sadly there isn't any company that does software like HTC does alot of companies try but just can't get it exactly like HTC so your out of luck there. Beautiful weather is as close as it gets to what your looking for. HTC does best software lacks in hardware and displays. Samsung does best in Displays and hardware software they leave that to app developers unless it's Bada . Motorola ok software good hardware ok displays software may get alot better now that Google owns them we'll see. Sony pretty good software, last years hardware, ok displays. I wish we could get HTC sense on Sammy phones it would be sick. Oh this is all my opinion so please don't flame too much.
I tried Beautiful Weather, but it would not take my location which is Dallas, Texas. When I did the auto it came up with New York.
There is a Sense app, so I may try it.
I am also hoping to get an app that will automatically pick up the local weather wherever I am. For example if I am in New Orleans, it would show New Orleans weather plus what locations I have saved.

Weather bug elite is pretty decent and stays upto date with just about everything weather wise. Nothing really compares to sense.
I like beweather and I got it for free from getjar
What you describe with windsheild wipers, rain, etc. is on my wife's Android, I believe as a live wallpaper. She's had hers for over a year so its been out a while.
Do you know what app it is?
I just checked, it is a HTC phone, not sure where/how that setting is made - it appears on top of her personal wallpaper.

[Q] Are any of the HTC apps other than camera worth keeping?

Hey guys, I've been playing around with Sense 4 and compared to AOKP/CM9 I'm not sure if there is enough that is superior to warrant staying on Sense (vs porting the app to AOKP)
Camera- definitely better than stock
Lockscreen- I think I like it better than stock/AOSP when put on the productivity mode
Email- I think stock is better, why can't I swipe through messages?
Gallery- Stock seems better
Music- Play music seems better
Car- I think Google's may be better
Browser- Either way I'll use Dolphin
What do you guys thinl?

I'd say
-the sense camera is definitely better.
-lock screen - I prefer widget locker. It enables a stock-style lock screen with more app shortcuts, customizablity, and widgets.
-email - no opinion. I use Gmail.
-gallery - stock gallery is worthless. I like quick pic.
-car mode - no opinion
-browser - I use Chrome and Firefox.
I actually think I like stock gallery. I've been using quickpic for some time now, but stock gallery seems smoother to browse with from the couple times I tried it out.

Once quickpic finishes with all the thumbnail generation in my experience both are similar in smoothness.
I also use non-stock apps for all the HTC stuff, I actually really liked the AOSP email app, it was simple and worked with pure messenger widgets on gingerbread with the root email connector. In ICS its broken and the dev hasn't updated it in a long time though, so i switched over to k9 for pure.
Music - poweramp, i used to use playerpro but it doesn't advance tracks when its in the background or screen off.
Gallery - quickpic and justpictures for my picasa and facebook accounts.
Car - AOSP car home is still the choice for me as i never use the htc music app due to the lack in in-app album art selection and I also don't use tunein so thats a wasted spot. No options is what killed it for me.
Lockscreen - I use widgetlocker also because i can set it up to disable in car mode using tasker, plus i don't need all that extra crap on the screen and when i do, its not HTC widgets that i put on them.
Overall, I salute HTC for their efforts on integration, but none of their apps are compelling enough for me to use so instead of using some I just use none.
Can't wait for AOSP for the BT stack, built in tether and the other stock things that we're missing, though I'm not sure how the camera would work due to it most likely using the sense framework for some features. Here's to optimism.
