[Q] Anyone ever tried to install an APK off sd card? Get black screen? - Motorola Photon 4G

Yeah so Idk what the deal is. Ever since I started to use an App2SD app to partion SD card and stuff, I can't do squat with installing APK's....Tried to install superuser.apk the other day and it popped up with the logo and stuff, I clicked install and my phone suddenly like reboots...
HELP D:
Update: moved the files to internal storage and pulled SD card....It's definitely not a problem with my sd card...

one suggestion. don't use apps2sd. there's no reason when you have gigs of space available for apps... it just slows down your phone..
just reboot and try installing again. if it doesn't work factory reset. oh and remove apps2sd that could cause it possibly.

You have created many new threads as of late asking many questions, all about rocko rom and most of them basic and/or vague. Have you ever thought the of ya know, trying a different rom? Thats the point of flashing roms, finding one that fits you and your phone. These forums are far from ignored, most here just offer help to people that help themselves. If you dont want to put the work in to learn how to troubleshoot simple problems, then perhaps you shouldnt be flashing. And you sure as hell shouldnt be bashing the people who take the time to offer you advice. Have fun with your gs3.
Also, these types of questions are meant for the Q&A section.

Mof 2.3.5ish rom, imperium initiative rom. Do you mean that youve taken the ota 2.3.5 update that permalocks you or your bootloader is just still locked? If its the latter, you can try out those roms. Im personally running mof and really enjoy it. But imperium was my favorite and by far most stable rom we had imo, and it has a locked version.

Bought the phone with 2.3.5 on it, and immediately started flashing stuff. So yes, my bootloader is locked and I can not use pudding.
And, thats great theres a locked version of imperium, but it is not compatible with Electrifys, unfortunately.

Mof his getting ready (if he hasnt already) to release a version of his rom for the 2.3.5 permalocked people. But regarding your problem, havnt been on bootstrap recovery in quite a while but im pretty sure you can still wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions. If you havnt already done that i would bet it would fix the majority of your problems with rocko.

Yeah, i've been waiting for mof to. He tried the other week and it didn't work:/
As for my problems with rocko, I just did a factory reset rather than SBFing and then re-flashed rocko, and sure enough most of my problems went away.
Take it easy man, later!

[Q] Bricked phone, what I shouldn't do now?

Hello guys!
A few weeks ago I got my phone bricked while I was playing with some custom ROMs. I don't know exactly what happened, but after I flashed openOptimus One the phone became weird. At first time, I thought it was just me that didn't liked the ROM (which was true), so I decided to flash void.forever again.
I'm not saying that the brick reason were these ROMs, but just telling what happened. So, the phone became a nice brick when I tried to reflash void.forever. I've sent it to LG on 10/13, so it should be returning today or tomorrow (they took a lot of time to recieve the board to repair).
My question now is: what I shouldn't do to it doesn't become a brick again? I actually don't care about rooting, custom ROMs and all, and this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322663 caught my attention.
Any advices?
Thanks!

Hm... something tells me that my mistake was about cache or something. And what is the advantage on partitioning my SD? I've read about it in almost all ROMs, but never understood exactly what it is or for what it's for. Can someone point me?

[Q] [Q&A] About CM9 and restoring backup from CWM!!

Hey folks,
I just bought the white international SGS II and i'm loving it!
I previously had an Infuse 4g, so I am pretty experienced with flashing/backing up/ restoring...but I have questions/concerns regarding the I9100.
I am about to try out the CM9 Unstable, so I backed my current stock ROM up using CWM Manager 3.0 (I am on CF-Root 5.0) onto my Internal SD, as I do not have an external SD card.
Now, I have had bad experiences with CM7 with Infuse and ended up not being able to restore due to many problems like MD5 mismatch, different CWM version, and problems while restoring ( I think it said something like devblock??)
So I'm pretty worried about not being able to restore back to the backup i just made.
So correct me if I'm wrong folks,
1) Go into CWM, flash CM9(once? twice?), Gapps, Faceunlock,
2) Data wipe/factory reset
3) Reboot
and should I choose to restore back to the stock Rom backup,
just go into CM9's recovery and restore..?
will this method give me problems restoring? will I have different versions of CWM recovery from the one I have currently? Is there any way to check if my back up was made properly?
Thanks a lot folks! Appreciate it!
Edit: "Make sure you're already running ICS bootloader (if not, go to SamMobiles and flash XXKP2 bootloader)". Is this necessary? Cus I have seen some folks say that they've not and was fine installing CM9.
First the procedure:
1. Wipe
2. Install CyanogenMod 9
3. Reboot
4. Install CyanogenMod again
5. Install gapps and face-unlock
Worked for me every time.
Your backups should work unless there were errors while creating them.
If you want some more safety, you can create a new backup after flashing the Siyah-kernel. The latest version uses the same version of ClockWorkMod as CyanogenMod 9.
Whether you need to flash the bootloader or not, depends on whether you already have it or not. I'm running galnet-MIUI and already had the bootloader installed. I don't know how to tell if you have it.

Ok...
I did further research and found out that Nandroid backup backs up everything EXCEPT the kernel.
I'm pretty sure that CM has its own kernel...but will it be CWM 5.0.2.7(the one i made backup in.)?
If it's not, the correct steps for me to restore my nandroid back up is to
1)boot into download mode from CM9,
2) put the cf-root kernel that i used in the ODIN PDA, flash,
3) turn off phone, reboot into CWM, then restore my nandroid back up right??
Can anyone please confirm this method??
I only have this phone and I cannot risk soft-bricking or hard-bricking this beautiful device.
Thanks in advance!
Also, i made a back up in blue recovery of CWM 5.0.2.7..does that matter?

thanks for the reply,
so I must have the ICS bootloaders in order for CM9 to work?
ooo siyah kernel method... that makes it easier! haha thanks so much!
I will proceed to do that!
btw, how is CM9 working for you?
do you think you'll be able to use it as a daily driver now that NITZ is gone??
1. Afaik cwm backs the kernel up and restores it too. (afaik = 99.9% sure, in this case)
2. CyanogenMod ships with its own kernel.
3. The kernel is not cwm. ClockWorkMod is just the recovery that is integrated into the kernel. CyanogenMod 9 has cwm-recovery 5.5 (Siyah too btw)
4. You don't need to use download-mode to restore.

You must have ICS-bootleggers. He did not say that for fun xD.
Is it suitable as daily driver for me?
Nope.avi
Why?
Accelerometer is unresponsive, so it takes forever to flip your screen.
Battery drainage is horrible.
Camera isn't working properly.
And the biggest no-go for me:
The device gets way to hot when using it.

alright,

Btw,
Flashing CM9 Zip does not flash the ICS bootloader right?
so then if I want to restore to my GB 2.3.5, would I need to flash GB bootloaders before restoring via Odin??
If the zip would flash the loaders, he wouldn't have mentioned it.
They're backwards-compatible.

If you need to make a post in the Q&A forums about flashing CM9, then you are definitely not the sort of person who should be flashing it. It is in very much a beta stage and there is a very high possibility it will **** your phone up even if you have done nothing wrong. If that happens you need to be the sort of person with enough experience to solve the problem by themselves. If you are asking questions before you've even flashed it then really, it's not for you. Use CM7, at the moment it's better than CM9 in every single way.

Most people should not flame some one as long as they show they have at least tried to look for an answer first. Yes we were all new at one time but we all learned.
Like you said you Googled and found your answer. Not that hard.
Think it's bad now. Should have seen it a few years ago. Lol clutter up the threads with questions that the answers were found with a search. You got warned. Do it twice and you went on vacation for a few days to learn how to search. So the next time you think people are being too hard. Remember it is not as hlbad as it was.
When I search for the answer, I ended up here.
are these considered ICS bootloaders? If not, when would you flash them, because they are completely unmentioned in any of the instructions or FAQs

Need some guidance...

Currently running CM9 on my Photon, would like to go back to stock, have searched and havent really found to much.
Is there a guide for the simple minded among us (namely me) to go back to stock???
I have a feeling it's really simple and I am gonna feel silly for asking....heh
Boot into recovery,
hard reset X3
Reboot into rsd mode
Sbf back to stock
(you will have t to re root and unlock if you choose to after)

It was pretty nice, but not all it's cracked up to be. A few things didnt work.
But the most annoying thing was it didnt seem to know it was on Sprint network.
It was nice, and I dont wanna crap on the hard work put into it..
It's acting kind of flakey, I wonder if re-flashing it would help, I might try that first then maybe go back to stock.....
Ive had very few issues with CM9 and ive followed it from the beginning Alpha stages.. Try a different version if you have issues. To each his own for sure some people will like others won't. I personally cant be taken away from it. Ive had VERY few network issues where it wouldn't connect and the not working items list gets smaller each day, its basically down to video camera in stock app and few other minor things. As for going back to stock if you need super detail check out QBKing77 on youtube, he has a video of exactly what to do.
I am currently running beta-0.1.0-2d-cm-9.0.0-RC0-Sunfire-KANG-signed, maybe I should just upgrade to beta-0.5.0-cm-9.0.0-RC0-sunfire-UNOFFICIAL-signed. If I do that, I pretty much follow the directions I did to flash the original correct??

When coming from previous cm9 build just wipe system in mounts and storage and flash thr newer build onto it via clockworkmod recovery.
Sent not from your device!
I will give that a try, I tried 3 or 4 times yesterday but it would get stuck on the M duel core screen.
Restored the back up I had and it was ok then.
EDIT:
No love yet again, I am using CWM 5.0.2.7.
It stops at the M duel core tech screen and just sits there.
Did you flash twice? If you don't, it bootloops.

The way i got that rom to work on my photon was to run the original rom, then go back and flash the most recent version, that worked perfectly for me!
I will give that a whirl after after work, thanks....
Finally, got it going, further reading figured out to flash the rom twice in a row, currently running 0.5.0, had to flash the CDMA fix to get the signal, running great, much smoother then the 0.1.0......
Thanks for all the help guys.....

So if I'm reading this right this is a deodexed stock Rom of the new update without the new locked down bootloader. Your post says must be unlocked but is there any reason that this can't be flashed with bootstrap without unlocking?
What changes are we seeing with this (2.3.5 doesn't count)? Any fixes for things like wifi or lapdock500 support?
I gave this a try but I didn't have any service. No 3G and I couldn't make any calls or text so I just restored my backup. Not sure if I need to do something else though.

Looks like you need to change libmoto_ril.so from 198_7 or flash new radio. But BEWARE flashing new radio switches the fuse!!!
That means, you won't be able to run locked 198_7 and you must stay unlocked.

I thought you didn't need to unlock or even root since the leak is signed by HTC?
1. Title is misleading. You are trying to guide someone through installing a custom ROM on the resound, title makes it sound like you are installing a stock ICS leak ROM.
2. You should never flash a kernel before the ROM. Chances are you will give yourself bootloops that since you haven't even installed a custom recovery or dev unlocked yet, you would have to do a factory reset in the stock bootloader to get out of.
3. You need to specify the difference between being on stock GB or one of the ICS leaks. I see you partially mention it, but it needs to be in more detail that you have to know which hboot you are running, since the ICS hboot changed the mount points of the storage.
4. I recommend that this either be cleaned up or deleted. A xtreme noob would probably only be more confused by this guide.

This kinda strikes me as similar to the root user's dictionary.

Excuse me. I failed pretty hard at some points in this xD It was fairly early in the morning. But I did this and it seemed to work fine for me. I installed the kernel via Bootloader and deleted the file off my SD card (put SD card into computer and deleted) then flashed Amon-Ra , did the root, cleared the cache and loaded the Rom. I wish it could just be that easy to explain :/

This thread has been removed (not sure how to completely remove it).
A new one will be posted and hopefully it is simpler.

Why not use this thread and rewrite it?
