Carat - Battery Saving App - Atrix 4G Themes and Apps

An interesting new app from UC Berkley. Might be helpful for anyone experiencing battery drain issues.
http://techcrunch.com/2012/06/14/carat-battery/

will try

For those that are trying out the app, report back in a week or so and share your results. Let's see if we can learn something!

I'm using it. Started yesterday. Trying very hard not to flash another ROM until then.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA

i will try it thanks

I've been using for over a week now, but it has only reported 21 samples. Still says nothing to report under every tab. Will try a few more weeks and hope for some results. If it weren't for the low battery life, my phone would be almost perfect!

I've got 278 samples recorded and still nada. I'm suffering from poor battery life too. I assume because I am running a beta ROM. But I thought I'd see if app this can help.
Edit:
Update from the Play Store description:
"Due to Carat's sudden popularity, it is taking longer than usual to generate personalized reports. Please be patient with us; we promise to generate results for you soon! "

Downloading it now, I'll report back likely sometime after July 4th with my findings. I'm a big fan of anything involving machine learning/data mining algorithms.
Cheers

Downloaded yesterday and I have 47 samples I'm using jokers kitchen sink (aokp pcb) might make a diff on rom most likely see a difference between ICS vs gb since they Handel processes much different can't wait to see ppl report results and interested to know what rom getts faster and better results

It says it's my #1 hog and I'd get 5 extra hours if I killed it...

Weird, I'm on CM7 also, and it has currently got 180 samples in 1.5 weeks.
Are you sure you didn't accidentally have any access revoked in LBE or something?

No offense but that's not a good battery life picture, your phone is idle too long, for a real comparison you have to use your phone, I've gone 17 hours before, and still had about 10% left and that was after a day of playing dead space and gta 3 all day

My Results from using SilentBtdeadly's Methods for better life and performance

Hey guys, I know there are a LOT of ICS threads here, but I believe this is truly effective. So this is for ics roms, and its pretty simple, so I'll post the link here so you guys can read some
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1628457
All right, so I'll post some pics so you guys can see how effective its been for me.

Here is my battery life. I started using the method mentioned at around 11 hours 50 something minutes, the rest, 11 and back is before I started using the options. At the moment, its been staying at 20% as I'm writing this lol.
Here, I restricted Facebook app (which I use on a regular basis) background data, and the gray part, which is background data usage has deceased significantly, before the option was disabled, the grey part was larger than the green.
I also, as the link I posted says, limited background processes to 4, which can be found under development in settings.
RAM usage is supposed to improve after doing this. Usually for me, at this percentage battery left, about 500 plus mbs is used. However, in this pic, which is after I applied the changes, I still have the same amount of RAM used as, say, when you reboot your phone.
Will post updated pics tomorrow night
Thanks to silentbtdeadly!!

I know this stuff works, I have practiced this ever since I posted, taming background processes and data not only makes everything snappier.. I'm pretty sure it saves on battery too(and I have pretty consistent good battery results). I was hoping to have more of a list of tweaks that could be effective to update the OP with.. but I am still happy with those two.
The only thing that sucks is that the background process limit setting gets reset when the phone is restarted.. but it is worth a few seconds to set everytime you reboot.

Please help. Att s3 very slow

I got the s3 from att about 4days ago but i realise now that it seams more slugish than my atrix 4g. This is embarasinv for the all mighty s3. So i decided to get some benchmark app from the market. I got cf bench and i score 4th on the list. After s2, one x and the s3 that is first there. Please help me understand if maybe i have a deffective device or i am using a bad app.
Also, when i am using an app and i hit the home button to go to the main screen it shows the backgroun pic first and a little later it starts popping up the app shortcuts on my desktop. Thank you for any help in advance.

yep you turned on power saving for sure. That feature is 100% worthless. Not only dose it not save ANY power, it slows down the phone so much you can't even type fluidly on any keyboard.
No. Power savings is off. I also just did a factory reset and i reinstalled cf-bench. I redid the benchmark and now it is just a bit better than the s2, but still it is like half way to where the one x and unlocked s3 are. Can anyone do a cf bench and get back with some comparesing benchmark. This is enoying to say at list. I want to make sure that my phone is not deffective whole i can still exchange it. Thank u.

Little question about battery!

Hi guys, I wanted to know if, with this rom + kernel combination, my battery is good and, possibly, to know which applications kill it.
So I have to go on settings/about phone/battery use, right? And how can I see which apps kill the battery? Because here I see only cell standby, phone idle and display...And how can I know if these percentages are too high? thanks
Basically, the apps that kill android's battery are the ones which have wakelocks."Battery use" in settings won't help you see what apps aren't letting the phone to go to deep sleep, but you can see how much time your phone didn't sleep. You can use betterbatery status to see what apps are sucking your battery life.Example:facebook xD

Exactly. Pretty much any social networking app, eg Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc, that runs in the background even after being "killed" will eat up your battery.

You don't actually use it. You mostly read and interpret the data it stores on what uses the most battery life and then you act if you want on those processes.
The app begins to store data as soon as you unplug your phone so the best way to see how it works first hand is to let it run a day or as long as it takes for the battery to go down (I have heard of some o1 users that need to recharge their phone after 3-4 days of use) and just change the first roll down option. You'll figure out what uses the most battery.

[FIX][ICS]Bluesleep Fix for all ICS Roms (Enable Deep Sleep!!)

Hello all!!! This is a Mod that will fix the Bluesleep issue seen on our current Cyanogen Mod 9 build and all ICS Based Roms.
What is Bluesleep you ask?
Bluesleep is a wakelock that is an error on part of the Bluetooth System missing a few binaries. Even if you have bluetooth disabled, you will be affected by this bug!!!
Ok, so how does Bluesleep affect us?
Bluesleep is a wakelock. Wakelocks prevent your system from going into Deep Sleep. From my testing, this is the ONLY wakelock that is still prevalent on our system.
Why did this bug occur?
Normally, an ICS kernel would take care of all of this. But due to us still having a Gingerbread kernel, we still need these binaries.
What are the benefits from flashing this?
Oh, only BETTER BATTERY LIFE! As of now, our phone sits at an idle state of 216Mhz. By flashing this, it enables Deep Sleep, which saves a substantial amount of Battery Life when your phone isn't in use.
Sounds great, but there's got to be a catch.
From my testing, there are no bugs introduced from this fix.
Wait, how thoroughly was this tested??
It was tested for a solid day of good use on MIUI.
It was (sadly) only tested for a few hours on CM9, however my phone did reach Deep Sleep.
SIGN ME UP!!
Download Link
Instructions:
YOU MUST BE ON AN ICS ROM! (CM9, AOKP, Paranoid Android or MIUI)
Boot into BSR
Flash the bluesleep.zip
No need to wipe Data or Cache
ENJOY BETTER BATTERY LIFE!!!
Credit goes to olegfusion and Th3Bill for their findings!! All I did was package it and make the flashable script.

Thanks for your contribution .
Flashed last night, CPU Spy still says deep sleep is unused, though I was charging. Will the phone go into deep sleep while charging?
