Process of warranty replacement - HTC Rezound

Hello guys, so a couple weeks ago I noticed my screen had a dead pixel on it. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to deal with Verizon then but now I do and I just have a few questions for those of you who have gotten warranty replacements.
-What numbers should I have ready before calling them.
-Is it still possible for me to do this even though I'm not the account owner.
-What's the actual process of getting a new phone, do they send a new one out and I send in the broken one or the opposite.
Thanks guys

You need to be an authorized user on the account or the account owner. You just call them and tell them your problem. You don't need any numbers ready just the phone number for the phone. They will send you a replacement phone with a return package. You send your broken phone back to them.
All done.

Ok cool thanks now to deal with the fun that is customer support Yay. Thanks man :-D

Unless it is REALLY bad, IE multiple dead pixels, I personally wouldn't replace it. I've had many miserable experiences with with "CLNR's", if you're outside the 14 days, I would keep it. You can do what you want, of course. But chances are, given my many experiences, you will have something equally worse with the phone you get in return.

I had to go through 3 Rezounds for my fiance before getting the current one. The first one had some issue where the screen would flicker. Second one would get EXTREMELY hot. Third one is working fine right now.

Exactly, so I would say that a dead pixel is the best of the possible issues OP could have. I personally wouldn't return mine over that.

But you could keep returning until you get something you like...if you're okay with the hassle that is...

Depends what was wrong. If you believe the issue can resurface and it was bad enough to need a swap, I would swap it out. If you like your phone and you know the issue was a fluke, keep it. Keep in mind, these are only opinions.

From my experience with warranty replacements, new devices are almost always better than any refurbished device. I have had several more issues with warranty replacements than the new retail phones. Poor warranty replacements is actually the reason I got my Fascinate. If your original is fine, and you don't think whatever went wrong will happen again, I'd say keep it. If you think the issue will happen again, then send it in, as a working refurb is better than a non-working original.
Delete
Gotta send one of em back. They will charge it to your account if you do not. Im using a refurb now but its the second one they sent me because the first was defective. However this phone works better and has next to no issues on root or flashing than any other fascinates I have dealt with. So in other words its a bad split decision that only time either way will prove which is best to keep. Unfortunately time is sensitive in this situation.

As far as I know, VZW doesn't care which you send back, as long as you send one of them back.

[Q] Can someone explain the steps to getting a free replacement?

I've just become aware of the new replacement program for problem Fascinates. I've been reading the forums but it wasn't completely clear EXACTLY what i need to do in order to be offered a replacement. I bought my Fascinate on eBay like 3 months ago (pre-rooted with a Blackhole ROM i believe) and while i do like it, it does have it's share of issues. i get the phantom button press a lot, GPS is VERY slow to lock at times, i occasionally get random voicemails from calls i didn't know i missed, my screen timeout setting is constantly changing back to 15 secs when i set it to 2 minutes, and MMS rarely works.
so yea, from what i've read so far, it seems like i'm prime for a replacement. but i need to know first off, do i need to flash a stock rom or will it not matter? will i need to take it in and prove it's not working because it only has these issues sometimes and i may not be able to replicate on the spot? also what exactly do i need to say (and who do i call) in order to prompt them to offer me a new device? thanks in advance for the help and i apologize if this is explained somewhere already. i've looked and it just seems to mostly be people talking about their new phones and not how they actually got them.
1. Go to Walmart.
2. Buy knee pads and lip gloss.
3. Go to Verizon.
4. Put on knee pads and a good amount of lip gloss.
5. By now you should know where this is going.

Just act stupid and say your phone doesnt work right and yes u should change everythin to stock couz root voids your warranty. But sometimes they still replace even if i did it. But change back to be safe

You may have a problem because you didn't get the phone directly from vzw & they can find that out. Also, they're getting hammered right now with people trying everything to get this deal whether they need it or not. Seems like they're becoming a little more stringent with their criteria. But I think the real problem for you is where you got the phone.

Ugh! I hope you get nothing. vzw knows YOU didn't buy the phone from them.
good day.
I wish I could tell you good news, but I've been down this road before. My hub bought a phone off ebay and found out something was wrong with it that same day it came in the mail. He went to Verizon and asked them if they could do anything and they said since he bought it from ebay they can't do anything. They are going to look into your account and know that you didn't get it from them, so I don't think you have any hopes at all getting it replaced.
You could however flash it back to stock and try...if you don't succeed...keep it stock and put it back on ebay. The fassy's are still selling for quite a bit and use that to purchase new phone.
well thanks for all the help. some people seem really offended but the only reason i even asked is because people on other forums said they traded in their eBay Fascinates and got the deal. i don't know if the warranty is transferable or not, but it's still been out less than a year and should be covered. also, there is no way they can tell i bought it on eBay either. the most they should be able to see is when i activated it and maybe track the ESN back to the original owner, still doesn't say i bought it on eBay. i didn't buy it directly from Verizon but the guy i bought it from did. people were even having success with phones bought from Best Buy.
You don't understand.... It's people like you taking advantage that makes it harder than it needs to be for people actually having problems and honestly want to return the phone...

Do you think it only has to be from an authorized retailer? I bought mine from Best Buy and they never even asked me where I got my phone. So maybe they can somehow tell if it was either bought from them OR an authorized dealer OR maybe the reps that I worked with didn't care.
They probably won't be doing swaps anymore because ED05 is official and ready.

For sure the swap ended yesterday due to the new ED05 update. Right now, they're only offering replacement Fassys. I was however, able to talk them to giving me an early upgrade for the trouble since I REALLY hate this phone. Better than nothing, and they were real cool.

i understand perfectly. and don't you think your being a little extreme? it's not like my phone doesn't have issues. it WAS bought from Verizon and it has a warranty. so I didn't personally buy it from Verizon but what the hell difference does it make? if it's messing up and under warranty, they should fix it or give me a replacement. did you even read my original post? i said what was wrong with the phone so it's not like i'm making stuff up, i just wanted to know what they were listening for in order to qualify for the upgrade replacement since i have more than one issue. don't make me out to be the bad guy, read on other forums where people are just saying they have issues to get the upgrade when their phones work fine. i even saw one story where a store manager encouraged someone to say they were missing calls to get a Charge for free when the guy said he was saving money to replace his Fascinate. so it really falls on the reps to do their jobs anyway since they are supposed to actually check for issues, so isn't it their fault if they don't? i ended up not even calling anyway, so get off your high horse guy.
and no, i don't think they can tell where i bought it. they can most likely tell where it was originally purchased and see when and where it was activated and deactivated but how can they possibly know more than that? stop spreading propaganda.

i'll probably just wait for a new ROM based on the latest update now if that actually fixes the issues. sure the allure of a new device is intriguing (especially if it's free), but i don't dislike the phone, i just want it to work like it's supposed to.

I love the holier than thou forum white knights. I swear you relative moralists leave no forum untouched with your auto-ego stroking.
Listen, everyone who owns a Fascinate and went through the OTA update process had the same issue with missed calls and texts. Furthermore, even custom ROMs (CM7 included) experienced this issue. Until now, there was no work around and not everyone is an XDA daily driver and knows that ED05 has been released. We all went through the exact same run around waiting for Froyo, I know I for one wasn't about to sit back and wait for this release to be pushed back 4-5 times. I took the free upgrade and I don't feel the least bit bad about it. I even posted the script that worked for me on the first try, because at the time ED05 had no firm release date and I feel like everyone pumping out $200 for a phone and $100+ a month deserves a product that won't cause them huge issues like the Fascinate caused for me. I lost thousands in sales because I missed calls and the Google Voice missed notification wouldn't show up for 15-20 minutes.
Bottom line is, don't try to crucify everyone that asks for help with this situation. Odds are they don't know about ED05 being released and they probably don't trust Samsung to get an update out on time because they never have. The only reason this one came so fast is because Verizon/Samsung were losing their asses on replacement costs.
TLDR: Don't be a ****.

If you think you can call Verizon and say your phone is defective and expect them to send you something different then it wont happen.
1. You bought the phone off eBay, thus you no longer have a one year manufacture warranty.
2. Without the manufacture warranty they cant send you a replacement phone.
3. Your best option is to see if you have an upgrade or go through your insurance and see what kind of phone they will send you. You never know sometimes they send you UPGRADED phones!
To the people WHO ACTUALLY GOT THERE PHONE THROUGH VERIZON. If you are within a year and your phone is "defective" then you can call them and make it clear that you have done a full factory reset and everything you try doesn't work. They will then send you a replacement, it might be the same phone or you might get lucky and get an upgraded phone.
I work for Verizon and I've had customers come in with a Droid and manufacture sent them a Droid Three.

Verizon 14 day warranty for defective devices?

I just got my S4 a few days ago, and I noticed that there are faint vertical and horizontal streaks all over the screen that don't go away. So I'm planning to go to a Verizon store to exchange it, but I wanted to understand what their policy is. What happens if hypothetically the new device is also defective? Could I exchange that one too for a new one if it's within 14 days?
Mine is the same as well as most of them. You may end up with a worse one. It's just how it is I guess. Mine is only like this on grey screens at low brightness. You can exchange if you can prove the issue just be like the screen is garbage and show them. But this is extremely common

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous, my iPad also is defective with a temporary screen burn-in issue. Anyway I just contacted Verizon and the answer to my original question is yes, you can exchange it multiple times for a new device if it's within the 14 day period.
That's good. Right now I'm having another issue as well my device sometimes thinks it's custom unlocked randomly. Device status will go from original to modified random times of the day. And on one reboot I got it to show unlocked custom message. However I bought this brand new and it's not rooted or unlocked.. Idk if I should return and try again. Other people have the issue but I don't know if it's a bug that needs fixing or if it's the device.

Warranty is one year AFAIK. The 14 day policy of Verizon's is only if you intend to fully return the device and either get something different or ask for a refund and go back to what you were using previously. That policy is only good for 14 days after the original purchase, so if you swap due to a bad phone, you do not restart the clock so to speak. Otherwise, we'd all trade our phones in every 13 days and get a new device.

My understanding is after 14 days they'll only give you a used device, which isn't okay with me since I paid for a new (and non-defective) phone.

Well yes, after 14 days you get what they have. If they have a used one, they will give it to you, if not they'll give you a new one. If you kick and scream loud enough, you may be able to get a brand new one either way.

It all depends on who helps you. I work in a corporate store, and I have exchanged devices a couple times out of the 14 days if they had it replaced once already. I feel like the new for new should always be from the day you receive your device, 1st 2nd or 3rd....

Anyone had GOOD luck with a refurb/warranty?

Just wondering if anyone is actually happy with their replacement phone. I've been dealing with minor issues where my side buttons stick sometimes and don't always work properly. Apparently this is common on Sammy.
I love my phone to death and can deal with it if it means getting a junk refurb. But I'm still under the manufacturers warranty, so I'm kind of torn on what to do.

I actually recently just got a replacement a week ago. Bottom left portion of the screen was cracked and I dealt with it for a couple months and was undecided about wanting to get a refurb but I decided to. The replacement came and it didn't say it was a refurb anywhere and has been working perfectly, able to overclock and everything. Have no issues with it whatsoever, maybe I'm just lucky but I'd say go for it. You get to keep your battery from your old one so that's a plus but my zero lemon is plenty. Haha it's your call
I got a warranty replacement due to my phone stopped charging. I don't have any issues with it. No defects in appearance, no weird problems, able to "jailbreak" first try. Also, as a few select people love to claim that there are issues with the headphone jack on every warranty replacement, not mine.
I will say that things do happen and there is a chance you might get a bad one. Then you just have them send you another. Just don't be like the weirdo that kept sending them in and was up to like 35 or something like that.

Im on my 7th since april and finally happy lol. Any minor defect I don't play with, I paid way too much for this phone
worked for me
A couple of months ago I had mine replaced. The phone wasn't charging and when plugged in it seemed kinda loose. Whether it was my fault or not they sent me a refurbished one and I've had zero issues with it. This one even seems to have a better grip of the plug than my brand new one. If you can get it replaced, do it. I've always been someone who makes excuses for not calling verizon to fix the problem and I always end up paying for it. Literally
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I know worst case scenario is I have to sent it back again, but I certainly don't want to have to do it multiple times. Which is the reason I'm holding off in the first place. It's really only the power button that is giving me the most problems. But again thanks for the input at least I'll have a little piece of mind if I do decide to send it back.
I have gotten 5+ refurbs from Verizon and have Never had an issue. They all come looking 100% new and don't have any cracks/blemushes/scratches. I probably got lucky to get so many perfect ones but that is just my experience.
I recently had to warranty my phone because of a bad head phone jack. The first replacement I got couldn't keep track of time properly so I had to send it back. The next one worked perfectly.

AT&T picky about warranty exchanges?

Hey guys,
I've had this one since release and had to do sober the phone warranty exchange due to degrading battery
I have a skid mark on thebottom right coroner. Yes, it's on top of the corner just smoothed it out or rounded it a bit. I was wondering if this will get a $690 fee imposed.
It's also S-Off.
Against company policy, instead of giving me silver like my current phone she asked which one I wanted and i said black.
Would they impose a fee for this, if so can I get it overturned?
I was thinking I would RUU it and I'd be fine.
Anyone who's been thorough this or heard of it let me know. Thanks.

Not sure about the skid mark on the bottom corner but my original black one had issues with freezing randomly so when I called for an exchange they had none in stock so they shipped me a silver one. This was over 3 months ago and they haven't charged me anything even though the color change is against company policy but as long as they initiate it you shouldn't have an issue. However not sure what they will say about the skid mark and say that is physical damage.
I replaced mine for a bad speaker. They asked if any cosmetic damage, mine had none at the time except a small scratch on the power button/IR window. I know they are inspected when returned, but have no idea how picky they will be or how good that "inspection" really is. Probably depends on the inspector you get that day. :fingers-crossed:
Question: Mine is rooted, running a leaked ATT ROM and when you boot it, the red warning pops up from HTC. Would that be an issue for a warranty replacement? How would I rectify that?
Relock the bootloader and flash it with an RUU and you'll be fine.
Is there a guide anywhere for doing so?
fastboot oem lock, run RUU from HTC, done. A lot of people get it wrong, you are not "flashing' a RUU, the RUU is a "Rom Update Utility" stand alone package.
Just an FYI. If your doing a warranty exchange and they transfer to the warranty dept. They will make you download an apk for you to install. This apk let's them look at your system. It first freaked me out cause I was on a full convert GPe. But they didn't say anything about it and went ahead with the exchange. Still a little bit unnerving when they say "please download the apk with the link I'm sending. This will allow me to take a look at your system except for videos or pictures"

Warranty Replacement Woes
I called up the warranty department to get my phone replaced, due to the camera. They did the same ninja snoop APK file (which I still have) but I was smart and put the bootloader/firmware back to out of box state, so I wasn't worried. Weird, though. I don't know what they wanted by doing that.
Anyway, I got the replacement unit in 2 days, which was nice. The warranty department said I won't be able to tell the difference between a new phone and a "Certified reconditioned" phone. PSSH...
The screen of the replacement model wasn't as bright and had a yellowish cast to it, compared to my other phone, which I was not happy with. The top speaker also crackled when you play any sound through it. I called them back and they are now sending me yet another one. It's nice that they are trying, but I'm not going to trade one problem for another.
The one they did send out to me had a night/day difference with the camera though. I held both of them up to take a picture of my Christmas tree. Side by side, the screen of my old one was purple and the new one was nice.
I just wish I can get this whole thing sorted out

I had a similar experience at my local Device Support Center location. The "like-new" refurbished phone they wanted to give me had chips and dents in one corner of the bumper/aluminum bezel, over a dozen swirled scratches in the screen, and two very deep scratches in the screen that clearly made it to the digitizer. The polyurethane bumper was also really greasy and worn out. It was conveniently the only one they had in stock. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty offended that they tried to pawn it off on me.

Oh man...Yeah, nothing like that with this one. I mean, cosmetically, the replacement was better than mine!! I had a GAP-GATE phone, but just dealt with it because whatever. The screen and the audio would have bothered me more than a defective camera.
Got replacement no. 2 from FedEx...it's worse than my current model! Third time is the charm, I hope. Their standards suck! I seriously put the three phones side by side on full brightness and each display was seriously a different color. Wtf...my original has a blue cast to it, replacement 1 was yellow, and replacement 2 was purple.

Sorry to hear that. There's a thread somewhere in the HTC One subforum (non-AT&T forum) that talks about the three different screens used in the phone based on its manufacture plant; it sounds like you've had a go at all three.
I too am now having a replacement One shipped to me via AT&T. I'm praying it shows up problem-free, but after the ridiculousness of the Device Support Center trying to give me a replacement that looked as if it fell off the roof of a moving car, I'm not holding my breath.
Oh! They had me run the "snoop APK" as well... except it kept crashing on my One. I'm not sure if I should suspect the fact that I was running the official GPe RUU upgraded OTA to 4.4 or not. Thankfully, the guy I was talking to was a nice guy, and after 4 or 5 attempts to run the APK without crashing, he went ahead and pushed the warranty claim anyway.
I wouldn't recommend anyone else trying to use this "excuse" though, since he could tell I was legitimately trying to launch the app each time. It would just crash during authentication, after he had made a connection to my device.

Finally was able get the Att remote apk. G/f confirmed that the rep knew she was running a custom ROM. If your still interested, I'll post the apk after I get out of this meeting.
edit: don't know what it's good for, but pm me if you would like it.
