[Q] WT19i choppy after ICS update - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi All,
I have updated my WT19i to ICS via flash tool
FTF: WT19i_4.1.B.0.431_PH Generic(1254-1952)
Rooted using puppet13th's Method
Removed some system apps posted on this thread.
Now there are times where the phone lags/becoming unresponsive to the point that the phone will freeze and i have no choice but to take out the battery to restart.
Any thoughts on what could be happening?

I didn't see (any comments) if the tool is working for WT19i.
So, I thought you have to re-flash it.

I had this problem with Xperia mini after ICS update. Go to Settings > Developer Options and enable "Force GPU Rendering". Reboot. Worked for me. Hope this helps. Cheers

Flash tool does work well for WT19i. Besides I have no problems on ICS so far after flashing ICS via flashtool.

Do a factory reset from the phone itself... you'll nor lose root, just backup your data.

did you already applied 02-push-root-files.cmd included in puppet13th's Method? It is very laggy if local.prop is still present in your data folder

He wouldn't have root if this wasn't done.

NEO Global 2.3.4 OTA Available (rooted remain)

[EDIT]
*OTA from .368 rooted (global) fail!!!
I have just reflashed 2.3.2 global -> root with Gingerbreak 1.20 -> Update OTA 104Mb --> Successful (Rooted remain)
*...removed...*
Maybe it's the same thing that happened before, rooted terminals will not get the update via OTA unless they have a German firmware...
I have NEO with 2.3.3 4.0.A.368 (root), but I cannot find Update software (OTA update) in Settings menus. If I update via OTA will I loose root?

Fail .
I'm also getting the Failed after Failed message... already attempted 5 or 6 times.
I do have a backup of the /system/app files I modified after rooting the last version, so I'm going to restore them to the phone and retry one more time.
I'm trying not to lose all my settings and stuff I did with a complete wipe in order to maintain root...
EDIT:
meh, I backed up all my stuff with titanium and I'm going the old way of flashing back to a rootable version, use gingerbreak and then updating.
I guess a clean install never hurt anyone
I think best option is Flashtool

So we need to re-flash the 2.3.2 (global? german?), use gingerbreak and then search for the OTA, as we did with the 2.3.3???

Just like what happened when the 2.3.3 got released: if you messed up (replaced) any of the apk in the /system/app, then my guess is that you need to reflash it. The OTA fails (not sure if it's doing some checksum of the apk files).
I'm in the process of updating to the 2.3.4 (downloading right now) from the 2.3.2 Global that I just flashed and rooted with gingerbreak.
Regarding user data, apart from a couple of settings that Titanium might miss, a restore from that app will take only a couple of minutes and all apps and data will be back. (I'll take the chance to keep my system clean and not restoring some apps that I used only once or twice and were sitting there wasting space).
It's probably the safest and fastest method if the OTA fails.

No.
I can confirm that an OTA-update from rooted 4.0.A.2.368 to the new 4.0.1.A.0.283 can be done successfully.
Did it just now and now I have 2.3.4 with root permissions.
Have not touched any of my apps in /system/apps folder.

Well thanks for the explanation! I didn't erase anything from /system/app, just uninstall some pre-installed things (only the few that appeared in the uninstall panel), so tomorrow I will try with OTA and see what happens, elsewise I will made a backup with Titanium and reflash the 2.3.2...

And I guess that's the trick, not to touch the /system/apps. I changed some system apps (maps, facebook, etc) and also the framework files to install other themes. I couldn't make the update OTA.
So let me get this straight if you mess with any apps in the /system/apps folder the update won't show up at all or will it just fail? I have generic trade german and it says my phone is already up to date when I check for OTA updates.

[Q] MIUI installation and user data question

Hello,
I am unable to post in the Developement threads at the moment due to the post limit but thought I would ask here and hopefully someone can help me.
Firstly, I have a Locked BootLoader that cannot be unlocked, I have rooted my XS and it is running ICS, I pretty much have it the way I want it but would like to try the MIUI ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768057 which works for all BootLoaders.
Secondly, I need to know if I will lose Root access by flashing the above ROM and also if I will lose all my personal Data. I have CWM installed and have backed up everything it will alow me to back up. But I am just concerned about losing root access and personal data.
For those of you who have flashed the ROM, can you tell me if root access is removed and if personal data is also wiped?
Thank you in advance and I appreciate all answers.
Personal data like pics, music and movie will not be lost if they are on the ext sd card.
Root should stay, but all apps that you install will be wiped so you need to download again from play store and make a backup for contacts and sms.

Would backing up via CWM not be advisable, just backup using the Sony PC Companion or the Backup and Restore utility on the phone itself, should I just use them all to be sure?
Thank you for the reply, much appreciated.
Allow me to add, all Media files are on the additional storage of the phone, the 32gb, I am just worried about SMS, Contacts and so on.
Also, with the above mentioned ROM, are there any limitations as to what apps would run, for instance, ICS compatible apps I previously purchased should have no issue?
Forgive my ignorance, I am not so familiar with Android.

Any chance you could point me in the right direction?
I originally used the method outlined by Sharaz22 to root my XS, downgrading to GB and flashing several things, but that is the only thing I have read on the subject of rooting a locked bootloader and to get it up to ICS rooted, I have not read about any special method for MIUI to maintain root access, even in the thread I linked above I could not see a work around, unless I am going blind.
Again, thank you and your help is appreciated.

You will never lose root if you install roms with cwm,you will lose it only if the rom are buggy but not in case of miui.

Okay, this is making sense to me now, so I just need to place the files into the suggested directory and reboot into CWM and flash MIUI throught there. Obviously following the instructions in the original thread and all should be fine, root access will not be lost and I can restore backed up content such as SMS and contacts without any fuss?
Thanks guys, that is great. :good:

I lost both when I flashed MIUI. I still had root, but not CWM. For locked bootloaders, the CWM is installed in the /system partition. When you flash MIUI, all of the files in that partition are changed, so you lose it. You can either reflash CWM like you did the first time or you can use this method (I forgot I had the link): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787532

Sorry GM, one final question.
What is the difference between the one you linked and the one in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1793432
I notice Sharaz22 states he removed the Kernel so it would work with the stock Kernel, now I have the stock Kernel since I installed a stock ICS so what problems would I face if I went with the official one and not the one Sharaz22 "edited"?

Nope. Flash ROM with CWM, wipe what you have to wipe, and before rebooting, flash the CWM package (no need for the Superuser one)
Guys, I suffered some mishap yesterday trying to flash MIUI on my phone.
After the flashing process with CWM, the phone would not boot, no response other than a single flash of the green LED and a vibration, it would not boot and i tried for over an hour. In the end I had to use Flashtools and get ICS back on the phone.
Since that, I cannot root my phone again, I have tried and tried, the first time I did it, it was easy and straight forward, downgrading to GB and using the batch files and so on, but now, each and every time I try to do it and follow the guides, of which I have found two, it does not work. That is because the process states that the "Device is not detected" and it cannot locate anything related to ADB. I have checked the drivers, installed several, reinstalled flashtools and each time I go through the guide I am left with an unrooted phone and nothing seems to work. Even in flashtools it struggles to flash the ROM every now and then and the phone just seems to randomly disconnect even though it remains plugged in.
Any help, I am struggling to get anything done on this phone and I would rather just have Root and CWM than MIUI.

I managed to get Root and CWM back on with ICS and Flashed MIUI, I was disappointed by MIUI and thankfully I had created a CWM backup a day earlier of my phone the way I wanted it, so I restored that and have everything I was missing and back how the phone was before I started messing around with MIUI.

Xperia Sola Bootloop After ICS upgrade

My sola using MT27i_6.0.B.3.184 before upgrade.
I have unlocked the bootloader before and relock it back to upgrade to ICS.
I upgrade via Sony PC Companion but after I finish upgrade, my Sola now having unlimited bootloop.
It keep loop with uncertain pattern, sometime I restart when apps upgrade, sometime restart at NFC firmware upgrade, sometime able to boot successfully, but it will reboot in few minute later. Most of the time I keep loop within boot animation.
I tried using flash tool and flash the FTF from here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=191426 and still have the same problems.
Anyone facing the same problem or having solution?
I flash back MT27i_6.0.B.3.184 and it work like charm... I wanna ICS badly... Please, anyone please help me :crying:
have you tried to make a factory reset?

I have tried this method many times already still same. I find out the cause of the bootloop. It is cause by my micro sd card. Once I put micro sd card and it will boot loop. I tried different micro sd card but still same, keep boot loop. Now I take off my micro sd card and it work like charm again. Any idea how to solve this problem?
I am also having the same issue... Did you find any solutions for it?
I'm not really sure, but I think upgrading with Sony PC companion after unlocking your bootloader did this. Try flashing a different Rom like Cyanogen mod or munjeni's jb port and see if there's a difference.
-Download New ICS firmware (6.1.1.B.1.89)
-Download latest flashtool, place the .89 firmware in the firmware folder in flashtool.
-Turn OFF your phone, connect to PC and flash. It will solve all your problems.

I was not unlocked my bootloader.. I am having this issues from when i did update to ICS(10,54) from GB(184). So it is because of sola ICS firmware.... After my sola warranty over, i did unlock the bootloader and then tried munjeni's JB port... In JB port, i am not faced the issue exactly(i mean it is not reboot every time with memory card)... But still the phone reboots when i played songs in walkman/ watch movie... But if remove the SD card then no issues with walkman or any other app using SD card.. I tried many different SD cards... Still the issue exists... But i have not faced the issue with GB 184 firmware

Flash new kernel
Yes, munjeni's original kernel had some problems like walkman FC's, launcher redraws etc.
So I flashed etch04's kernel and it sort of fixed that. I'm using v8.0 with ondemandq+sio. for some reason i had wifi problems with the later versions. You should check for yourself.

[Q] Need help to recover from endless loops

Hi guys,
I'm using Xperia sola rooted phone with 4.0 and I was installing metamorph - lock theme and the phone restarted and it is going in an endless loop of resarts.
It's possible to put the phone completely off by using power & volume key combo, also i can put the device under flashboot and fastboot mode.
Kindly tell me a way outta this !!
I won't be getting a cell phone for another year I guess

Do you have CWM and if you do does it have adb?

CWM isnt installed on my xperia sola sadly
This is the theme file : "droidpirate.com/2011/09/14/metamorph-droid-bionic-lock-slider-bionic/"
prior to this, an app named metamorph was installed.
I can put the device in flashboot/fastboot though!
Any chances that I can recover the phone?

If you bootloader is unlocked you can try flash a kernel with CWM that support adb.
If not, do you have the FTF file for the firmware that is currently installed?
I would try at first flashing system.sin only from the firmware FTF, no wipes everything else expluded.
You will lose root and other modes copied directly to /system but you should have data intact.

Well no CWM installed & I haven't done the unlocking of bootloader yet.
Yeah I do have these two files in my flashtool firmware folder which I used :
MT27i_6.1.1.B.1.10_KERNEL.ftf
MT27i_6.1.1.B.1.54_KERNEL.ftf
Which one are you referring to, since I had to use .10 first followed by .54 to get the root done !
Can you please point to a tutorial where I can follow the steps which you are referring to? That will be helpful

But flash overrides and erase everything.
For root didn't you just had to install kernel .10 over .54 firmware no?
Anyway the system from the one that is flashed now you the only one that knows which, I am guessing .54

Check this link: "theunlockr.com/2013/09/10/how-to-root-the-sony-xperia-sola-running-6-1-1-b-1-54-firmware/"
I used the above method to get the root done. Yeah it's running .54 currently. But the rooting wasn't the issue, it happened successfully, the theme which I mentioned gave me endless loop of restarts problem.

I just said that flashing system will make you lose anything that's on it, in that includes root

glad to help you

[Q] C6806 OTA update just errors out.

I am on a rooted C6806 (Still locked) and the updater on the phone downloads the file and then it reboots and tries to install but cannot. Error updating is all I get.
I don't have a recovery and I would rather not wipe the whole device. Is there anyway to just update? Or at least is there anyway to get the stupid thing out of my notification bar if I decided I don't want to bother wiping the device?
I tried updating from the phone and also using the sony software, neither works.
Hmmmm
Use PC companion on the computer. Or you can flash the ftf file I made for it and uncheck wipe data.

I had a similar failure trying to use the PC Companion.
Can you give me a quick tutorial for flashing the FTF without wiping data?
I assume I'll lose root?
Ah okay you have probably removed some system files and that is what is causing the errors when updating since you are rooted. Yes you would lose root if you flashed the ftf file and from looking at a few other posts you can't root .257 yet.
Search for flashtools and you will find numerous guides on here. After you have it all installed and select the firmware to flash just uncheck the wipe data check box that way it will keep your apps and settings.
The ftf file is in my signature. If you need any more help or have other questions let me know.

Yes, I did freeze a bunch of services with titanium backup that were running in the background.
Ok, I do have flashtool, I just didn't realize that you could do it without wiping data, good to know.
I want to keep root so I'll hold off for now. But thank you for the help!
If you just froze them and didn't delete them try unfreezing them then update. Just check the forums for how people are keeping root while updating so you don't lose it.
