Springboard for $299, no contract, till 6/21. - Huawei MediaPad, T-Mobile SpringBoard

If anyone is looking to buy a Springboard, tmo has it for $299 and no contract.
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones...d&cell-phone=T-Mobile-SpringBoard-Prepaid-MBB
Thanks to Kueller at SD.

I am really interested in this.
One question though - I already have a smartphone plan with t-mo. I would like to simply use my smartphone SIM in this device, and be able to make voice calls. Is that possible? If not, I think I will pass.

This has been answered numerous time already. Honeycomb has no phone capabilities but if you install ICS then you will have the ability to make a call but it seems that you won't have data. This is a limitation from TMobile and hopefully they will change this in the near future although I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.

Nice deal! I would cross the border and jump on this if it weren't for the fact that I already bought one used along with a leather case for $140 total. Add in the $30 repair for my stupid insertion of a microSD into the SIM slot, and $15 I will probably have to spend on an unlock, and I'm still coming out ahead at $185.

I can't speak for postpaid, but I have a prepaid SIM that I put on the $3/day voice/text/data plan. The SIM works in smartphones such as Galaxy Nexus and Nexus One, but when I put it into the Springboard it says invalid SIM. I think T-Mobile screens for the IMEI of its tablets and bans them from using the network on a phone plan.

HTC One prepaid

I but the One outright at the T-Mo store today. I'm new to T-Mo. I want to use it with the prepaid plan. However, when I'm going online to activate the SIM that came with it, they ask for an activate code. Can't find that anywhere in the box, can anyone help?
How much did you pay for it?

$609 (before tax). Why?
The code is on the sim card that the sim was attached to, the barcode #'s at the bottom on the back

i assume your going to run the 30$ - 100min, unlimited txt, unlimited data (up to 5g) plan and use a VOIP service like grooveIP to tunnel through for phone service?
i've heard some widely varying stories about that. some say it works fine some say theres alot of lag and quality is quite poor. I'm not sure but i use my stuff for work so i cant take that chance.
Let me know how it goes if that IS the way your going

The SIM code is different from the activation code. I'm starting to think the box didn't come with an activation code, because they expect the rep to activate it to their "plan" when you get it. Going to go to the store later today.

They didn't SIM unlock it, but does it matter for now, since I'm going to use it on T-Mo? Apologies if that ends up being a stupid question. I've always been on CDMA, so new to dealing with SIM's
Update: I didn't know the $30 prepaid plan was only available online, this is why you cannot activate it in the store. I just purchased the activation kit for $10 and I'm going to activate it online when it comes.
Guess I'm gonna have to keep using my old phone for a couple days longer . Just wish I knew these prior to buying the new phone so I would've been ready. So convoluted T-Mo!

If you already have a blank SIM card all you need is the activation code that's on the booklet labeled Activation Card. I have 3 activation codes that came with SIMs I used to replace my old SIM cards. PM me if you or any one needs one.

[Q] Optimal data/voice/SMS plan for Gear S owned outright?

As part of attending the Samsung developer's conference last week in SFO, we all got Gear S devices, set up for ATT. So not having any present service relationship with ATT, what can they provide in terms of monthly service plans?
Yes, many OP have posted material on related subjects, but most assumed that they were going to purchase the unit outright or on contract.
So youve basically bought it off conteact like a lot if us. Even without unlocking you have several options.
Att monthly like 30 dollars
Straight talk monthly which uses att towers. Pick your plan and cost
Pay as you go. Im doing this on h20 which also uses att towers, not sure what other payg carriers there are.
Basically anyone using att towers will work out of the box.

Or you can unlock it to go with t=mobile no number required just choose the right one to unlock give your IMEI and your good to go. Or you can just use bluetooth wifi for now. Lucky you
1. Find a friend on AT&T and put it on their contract and let them pay your 10 monthly access fee and promise not to go over your minutes/data.
2. Chop down your current phone's micro sim to a nano sim. Or order a new one. Assuming you have a GSM smartphone, and If you have an iPhone that sim may already fit. Just eject it put it in the watch and go.
3. Use without a sim.

I was suspecting that would be the giveaway at SDC this year. I like the idea of the Gear S, but not the implementation - I'm severely disappointed that they did not give a Gear S option with the IR blaster - as that's very useful to me. Maybe a future version will have that added back. I suspect removing superfluous hardware like camera and ir blaster might have been decisions to help battery life, since this will have a built in phone radio using up a lot of that juice.
What I think would be a useful evolution of a device like this is once they're able to get decent battery life out of it, to take the data and voice plans off your phone (making that behave more like a small tablet) and tether the data and voice from the watch to all other devices you would carry with you (laptop, handset, bluetooth, tablet, etc.). In essence, the watch would be the sole device you pay a carrier fees for. Does anyone know whether it's capable of tethering now? It's too bad the data speed isn't at the full bore LTE capability. I prefer using a bluetooth headset for conversations anyway so I would rather pull my handset/tablet out when I need a larger display than the watch (it's how I use the Gear 2 now)

if i get the GS from ATT no contract and put a sim card from whoever will i be able to call forward my calls from my Sprint S5?
I haven't tried the call forwarding, just had access to an active att nano sim, and wanted to see if it worked.
What I understand is the call forwarding is more of a software function on your phone and not carrier specific where it gets forwarded too.
Hope this helps

Yes you could, hell I believe the t-mobile data plan is only like $15 off contract but yes, without a Sim it would work fine just over Bluetooth or wifi.
If that's is all you are going to do with it. Att has it for 300 I believe the cheapest of all the carriers. That is what I did...with a option to go sim if I want.
unless you plan on rooting or anything like that, then go T-Mobile, their mobile plan is by far the cheapest (if u use it) and it's not worth the $40 savings to buy an att watch and then a t-mobile sim when u want service.

I guess it depends where the op lives , I went from AT&T to T-Mobile and don't have issues, but I do live in an area that has good coverage. price wise, t-mobile is much cheaper than AT&T for me at least and unlimited lte is nice, the wife alone uses like 15gb a month.
Yea but we talking watch here not phones...lte speed on phones is nice to have not that much on watches....besides since now if you buy "out right" you get the "unlock sims code". Wow 15g.....I am lucky to use 500m if that on the phone.
Other options are if they decide to get a plan:
300 att (coverage) = att/tmobile
put on friends att plan 10/month
or
350 tmobile (price)=tmobile/att
put on friends tmobile plan 5/month.

yeah, about that.... every member that I know with an unlocked att watch trying to use another provider has ended up with that mm6 error, I dont know whether they got it resolved or not. The whole family share thing and all that jazz is just confusing. I have been off bluetooth for quite a while at times and I dont think Ive used any data. When I first got my plan and saw it was 500mb for the watch, I kind of panicked but 3 months in and barely used more than 20mb , its all good.

I must be one of the lucky ones.
Same here on the watch data since I am on h2o for emergencies I too was worried, but the gs eats data like a bird your lucky to hit 100m a month.
thanks

thanks for that post I am looking to do the same but I want to try to use a prepaid sim on an international unlocked 750W do you know if anyone has tried this?

LTE Prices for T-Mo and AT&T? also, your AT&T experience?

I have a SGP621, been reading the posts on here but none seem to answer some of the questions I have. I do appologize if seems like some of this info I could just get myself by visiting the stores, unfortunately I have very bad experiences with AT&T sales reps, I always seem to have halfwits who know less about the phones and plans their selling then I do. plus I work almost every day, I dont have the time wait half an hour between each question so the the reps can all play "pass the question" in the hopes that the person to their left knows the answer. its irritating, frustrating, and your own personal experiences would give me a much better picture.
Also, it seems I'm one of the few who fall in the opposite category of what seems to be everyone else who bought the SGP621, I actually don't want to use it as a phone at all, I'm just tired of tethering. Ideally, I'd be happiest with a data only plan, even better if doing so could save me some cash.
AT&T questions:
Can I just get a data plan/add it as a tablet?
As a phone...would/could it be the same number as my normal phone? 2 separate numbers?
Jgonzo432 said:

whats this about? is this necessary? what does it change?
How much is it to add to an existing family plan?
how much of a data usage increase do you see with this on your plan?
T-Mobile questions:
Roughly how much for the data only plan?
is it worth it considering I already have a plan with AT&T?
That's exactly what I have with tmobile... Data only... Twenty bucks a month for 1gb, and that does include the free music streaming service
Well incase anyone was wondering, I did actually have some time today. since I already have a mobile share plan with AT&T adding my tablet was pretty cheap.
Its $10 for a tablet (data only), $15 for a phone (phone+data)
When they stuck a sim card in my tablet, AT&T gets confused, classifying it as 2 different things on 2 different levels and thus they could not simply add it. Instead they had to use the serial from one of the instore display devices, so they gave me the option to classify it as a tablet or phone. Even though I was planning to go tablet, 5 dollar diff? i went phone. seems to be working fine so far.
Consider the $15/mo tablet data plan thru Harbor Mobile ($15 for 5GBs). They are simply reselling a T-Mo business line I believe and could prob go under and leave you hanging at any moment...but if you don't have a phone number to lose, who cares.

Can't find a T-Mobile Gear S anywhere.

Like the title says, I've looked in every T-Mobile store and they're not selling any since it's a "year old", just the S2. Went to Best Buy...they just sell Sprint and Verizon versions but you can't get them unless you get a contract with them. I've looked online, and I'm scared to purchase one because most just say "750" without the model at the end (for example 750T for T-Mobile). I've found a AT&T watch and was thinking of ordering it since most of you guys on here have said it's compatible with a T-Mobile sim, but you only get 2G speeds, or I can get prepaid such as Straight Talk or H20 as well. Any suggestions as to where I can purchase a T-Mobile Gear S? Can't find anything on Ebay or Amazon

I did, but he never replied. As for the prepaid sim, I can't find none of what they were talking about in this forum. I've looked for H20 and StraightTalk at my Wal-Mart, but there's no H20, and with StraightTalk, I don't know what card to get. They spoke of one expiring after 90 days (maybe that was the H20?) but every card there expires after 30 days, even if you don't use all the texting and calling minutes.

The AT&T $10 device plan only works if you already have a family shared plan with them. You also can't use it on T-Mobile's Wearable plan because T-Mo locks this plan to IMEIs of T-Mo version Gear S or Gear S2 only.
The Gear S is already over a year old. Most places already cleared them out for Gear S2. eBay is probably your only bet for any device of this age.
Swappa website has some good deals on Smartwatches..

Yes you can. I read that many people did that. AT&T is supposed to supply an unlock code if you call, but I've seen that many people had different outcomes. Some were able to get it, some had to keep on calling nad persisting, and others had no luck. Although beware that in unlocking the device, when you go to another carrier (such as T-Mobile) that it will have 2g or HSPA+ speeds instead of 3G or even 4G since the bands are different or something like that.
I sold my unlocked ATT gear S last month, because I managed to grab an LG watch Urbane 2nd edition LTE before they took them off the market. For what it's worth, I bought mine from ATT, had it unlocked by ATT, and used it on Tmobile with the wearables plan for a year. (As soon as I put the sim card in my LG watch, it did something to my wearables plan and i could never get it reinstated. In general, unlocked ATT Gear s devices no longer work with the $5 Tmo wearables plan, but with any other regular Tmo sim card.)
Anyhow, in New England, I was getting 3G speeds sometimes, if I recall correctly.
To get the ATT Gear S unlocked, you need to have been an ATT postpaid cell customer at some point, and provide that respective phone number to them. If you have a friend who is a customer, they could submit the unlock request for you as well.
Otherwise, ATT forces you to "wait 90 days" during which time you have to pay for a plan with them.
There was also an Ebay seller who was selling unlock codes for around $10 if memory serves me well.
By the way, the regular retail price for the ATT version is cheaper by $50 than Tmo's, so definitely worth going that route.
It would be unbelievably helpful if you'd let us know how much you love it =), on a side note I does anybody have a bricked Gear S? I'll buy it =)

Yeah, AT&T's stupid 90 days plan. Way too much. I don't wanna be paying 50 dollars a month for a watch. I found a friend who has a watch that is 1 month old and was selling it so I brought it, and it's from T-Mobile too so it's a win, win. It's only 5 dollars a month (plus an addition 10 for insurance). AT&T is selling the watch right now for $199 outright. T-Mobile isn't selling it at all, but before they took it down it was going for $250. I went with T-Mobile because $199 plus tax comes out to $220. Then I got to put 30% down for AT&T's stupid plan plus an additional $20 or $30 dollars extra (forgot for what) which comes out to $76 dollars total. So add that to the $220. Then the following month I'm going to have to pay a one-time activation fee of $15 dollars, PLUS the service which is $50 dollars (but if you're already a customer with them it's $10 a month), PLUS if you haven't already finished paying off the watch, you're going to have to put down money for that before the 3 months is over. Too costly in my opinion. I just payed my friend $120 (cause he has $80 left due in his account so I'm paying off that) and then just the $15 bucks a month so I'm good.
I think my friend has a bricked Gear S, but he has to send that back since they gave him the one that I have right now lol.

If you mean the Urbane, it's mindblowingly awesome, with a battery life that's out of this world. My Gear S was great for the year I had it, but the Urbane is so much better; I've been using it daily for almost 3 months now.
The only updates Google needs to make is allow voice calls over BT and a way to manually update APN settings, both possible with the Gear S.
Don't buy an att gear s if you plan to use the android rom on it. Att locked the bootloader on their gear s and so far there is no way to unlock it so no rom for us.
I have a T-Mobile version and I shopped for it on my local Craigslist. You just have to be careful yet persistent. Ask for better photos and definitely take a copy of the ad with you when you go to check it out for hopefully your purchase. My seller had a warranty replacement and it is in near pristine condition. I have replaced his original watch band, thanks to eBay. And I do have a broke clip on the charger cradle that I will eventually replace as well.
Also, Swappa is an excellent place to purchase items. There's 2 sides, there's the Swappa.com and then there's Boneyard where you purchase stuff not able to be sold on regular Swappa like broken glass, missing parts and devices for parts. Google both. Hope this helps!! If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Now, I did in fact have an AT&T branded Gear S that I tried, unsuccessfully, to get to operate on T-Mobile. I wanted the wearables sim card and I put T-mobile's in it. It would NOT work for me as I was told by many support levels (twitter, email, and phone) that the T-Mobile wearables sim card was not provisioned for the AT&T branded Gear S. I gave up and sent that version Gear S back, getting a full refund and purchased what I described in my opening of this post.

I already had the plan though with a tablet and cut down the sim put it in the gear and called tmobile and they turned it into a data and phone line for me as it was only a data line.

NIce. I found a really good deal on a AT&T Gear S but not sure I want to get it because my luck isn't that good. lol So your AT&T Gear S works exactly the same on T-Mobile then? I don't have a tablet plan so not sure what I would have to do to go the route you did.

So far it's been working great. But I already had the plan so I don't know if it would work. Call tmobile and see if it could work. I mean they turned my data only plan into a phone line

I know a T-Mobile manager. I called him today but he was off. He's worked his magic before. So let me get this straight your watch has it's own number and you get 4G speeds?
