[Q] Troubles booting after installing BusyBox - HTC Amaze 4G

I have a Wind Amaze with Ruby installed. S-Off, unlocked, the whole shabang. I have been trouble free for months with this install...
Until yesterday when I installed BusyBox to adjust some Facebook permissions using the Permissions App. All I wanted was the Permissions App, but I needed BB to install it, so I did it without knowing really what it was. What is it exactly?
Now my phone will boot but after I unlock the screen, it will just freeze and reboot like 10 mins later. Sometimes I can get further but within a minute or so, it freezes once again.
Yesterday, I also installed a new 32GB SD card but I don't think that's the problem, as I've tried my old card. I'm considering just reflashing the device with a new ROM but I don't want to have to go through the trouble of reconfiguring everything.
If anyone has a fix or suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated.

never mind sorry ...

I have Titanium Backup installed on the phone and I'm fairly sure it was backing up regularly. But how would I use that when I can't even boot the phone? I tried booting into custom recovery and recovering but no files were present.

Lol accidentally given a thanks but eh, doesn't matter.
You'll need to reinstall, since you have no backup to work with and we don't have a flashable zip of the WIND system files for ya, sorry.

Titanium backup makes backups of apps/app data, a system backup via recovery makes a backup of the entire system including all files/apps, etc in the the system partition, that's why you should always make a backup in recovery and keep it on your sd card just in case this happens, busybox and the likes change system files/permissions etc, just in case it doesn't work well, you can use a system backup to restore the system files it modified.
Two totally backups, get the idea?

Ah ha, makes sense. I wish I had known this earlier but I suppose this is how you learn.
Could it be possible to grab the titanium backup files if I attach my phone to my computer in disk mode then transfer them when I install the new ROM?

Should be possible, if you can't get it done in the android interface, reboot into 4EXT recovery and choose the mount USB storage option, should make your memory card pop up like it would on the phone for you to copy your files to your pc.

[Q] After flashing with Megatron probs

I keep getting com.lge.lgmits was closed messages randomly... What does this mean? Basically I swiped everything after doing the backup -> lost the backup. The custom recovery rom still works though, when I reboot into it, and the phone works other than the error that I mentioned. Would re-flashing the phone help? And do I need to partition the card again as well?
Also don't understand the whole backup and swipe thing.. At what point am I suppposed to swipe the card? After backup? But then the whole backup will be destroyed? lol

Wipe the external as well?
Didn't wipe the external but lost the backup all the same.. Oh well, I didn't have anything there anyway. I re-flashed with Megatron, since void seems too complex for me, and no errors so far.. Edit: Oh the errors started again..

I have no idea. But as far as i can tell, it does absolutely nothing to my phone. I have a lot of background services removed since I'm using Light ROM, therefore I (and maybe anyone else) is fine without that suicidal service.

You wipe when you feel it's necessary to wipe. For example, wipe Data, cache, and dalvik-cache when you're starting with another ROM. If you're upgrading, you may not wipe anything, but that depends on a ROM.
Try viewing the contents of flashable zips. Notice the directory structures I'm not sure if zips contain instructions for the recovery to delete certain stuff, but I don't think that's the case.
Also, you can keep your backups on a separate card or on the PC. I have mine there since I'm a perfectionist when it comes to disk space
Thanks for the help! I froze the service with an app and phone still functions just fine, so hopefully that took care of it. Really don't wanna flash AGAIN LOL Any idea how to save backups to PC? Or just use the LG PC Suite?

What ccdreadcc said. There's a nandroid folder in the root of the SD card. Backing up and restoring backups should be pretty straightforward

.android-secure help

So I tried to restore my phone multiple times from two different recoveries and every time it stops during it and the screen goes black and the only way to turn my phone on is to pull the battery. Everything but the .android-secure restores and I now have about 200 hundred apps that aren't installed on my phone and I don't want to have to go through all that again, the apps still show as installed on my phone, but the the data on my SD card is missing, does anyone know how I can get this back?
Did you actually wipe your.android_secure folder?
Sent.
No, I never wiped it. After I restored my phone it was empty
Did you ever try to move 200?? apps to sd?
Sent.
Yes all the apps were on my SD card already. But they were moved over one by one so it wasn't a major hassle. I tried doing it through TWRP now and it won't restore at all anything that is.

Is your Sdcard partitioned, and, if so, are you running a ROM that supports A2SD?
Sent.
No I never did a superwipe or anything of the sort, I didn't have any Titanium Backups either, never planned on flashing a new ROM, still haven't. The backup was through CWM the newest update 4.0.1.5 I tried restoring through that and the Revolutionary 4.0.1.4, neither worked. I moved all the recovery files over to TWRPs backup location and they none of the partitions would restore. My SD is not partitioned and I'm on a rooted stock ROM. I'm only talking about regular App2SD apps that are supported by Android, like Angry Birds and Google Earth.

Those go straight to your secure folder. I don't ever use CWM, as a rule, but it seems that somehow your CWM Nandroid didn't include that folder...I don't know how it got wiped, but my guess is that whatever rom you flashed included a Superwipe script, which would've wiped that folder. (another thing I don't use-Superwipe) If you go in with root explorer or whatever file manager, you can manually verify that a) your secure folder is empty (which it sounds like you've done), and also check under your /clockworkmod recovery folders to see if you actually have a backup for the secure folder.
If it's not there, then, unfortunately it's lost.. You can get the apps back from the market, though.. PM me if you have any 'hard to come by' apps you might need that don't show up on the market.
Good luck.

OK so what recovery did you make the backup? I don't think TWRP backup work in CWM. Also, you don't even NEED to restore the .img you're talking about. You can restore boot, system, data, and it should boot. If you need your apps back, download them. Then back them up with titanium backup. Koushik can be found in #cyanogenmod-dev on freenode, but I don't think you need to bug him. It sounds like your phone boots right? If you need more help come into our d3rp thread, linked in my sig.
Thanks, yeah I decided to just reset my phone anyway, to fix the black screen of death and everything. Just sucks I can't remember what all my apps were and I'm like a hundred short now

Your nandroid backups should be located under... clockworkmod/backup/"YYYY-MM-DD.HH.MM.SS"

If there are multipe folders under "backups" with different time and dates then those will be all the nandroid backups you have made so far with the most recent one being the one with the newest date and time while the old backups are the ones with the older dates. Oh i see now. I Forgot about that. Excellent point but technically you are rooted. That update.zip you flashed in stock recovery (reinstall packages) edited some of the system files on your phone in the process and gave you superuser rights or "root" access. So you are rooted just so you know.

that good to know but the funny part is that it maybe root it but does not show on the phone no ninja or paired android. Titanium Headache

Titanium has been giving me problems for awhile. I haven't flashed anything for a couple months so it hasn't been a big deal, but today when I upgraded the firmware and wound up with some "issues", I really needed to be able to let Titanium do its thing and restore my stuff back like usual. No go.
I'm talking with the TB development people, but in case any of you masters out there have run across this, I thought I'd share.
After a new flash, TB doesn't access my backups. It sees them; they are all crossed out and the summary says I have none to restore. I can tap one and it opens up, but all of the boxes are grayed out. (See pic). Then, if I re-download the app from the store and install it, TB will access it and allow me to restore data only.
So in order to "restore" my apps, I have to download them one at a time from the market first. Any ideas?
I'd force close TB, move the files to a new folder, configure TB to use the new folder

Well it doesn't really wipe the whole SD card, but clears key folders. I store my backups on my external card and then also back them up to my computer. Just in case...
I had the same issue at first. Moved my backups from internal to external sd. Used dropbox to upload and sync to a folder on my account. When flashing a new ROM I just download TiBu, open it up, make sure the directory is right and then open the menu, hit the reload titanium option and after that hit the menu again and hit the refresh apps button. Works for me every time.

didn't think either of these restored app data though. That is why people use titanium.
I know I had problems with it earlier this year, but it seems to get updated every week here lately and no problems at all. I switched my backup folder to the sd card and it restores apps and data no problem.
I just flashed Venesaur, and I haven't had an issue with TiBu.
In fact, I don't think I've ever had an issue with it. Except when I didn't know how to do something.

[Q] I8552 Samsung Grand Quattro goes straight in CWM Recovery, after a fail backup

Hey, this is the first time I'm posting a problem here. I have a Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro (I8552). I rooted my phone yesterday via cwm recovery, and then made a backup using ROM Manager. It rebooted my phone directly into a backup page where it started backing it up, but my internal memory wasn't big enough so it failed and since then I haven't been able to boot my phone up... When I try to turn it on it goes straight into CWM Recovery page, and when I click "reboot system now" it turns off the screen and then reboots it again into CWM Recovery...
Then, since I couldn't access the apps (as the phone won't start), I made another backup through CWM Recovery, but this time in my external SD Card which had about 6 gb free space. So it made and completed the backup without any problems. But when I restore it from my ext SD Card it restores the system and stuff but then when it comes to data it shows the message
Error while restoring /data!

. Every time.
And so I tried

Click to collapse
it does it, and completes the process, but still it won't boot up, neither by

nor by removing battery and trying to restart.
Mind you, I didn't flash any new ROMs, it was still running my stock ROM when this happened...
So to sum up the things I've tried
1. Reboot system now
2. Backup in extSD Card (which worked) and restore from the same (which didn't work)
3. Wipe data/factory reset
Also one more thing, before any of this mess was made, right after I rooted my phone, I made a backup of all apps through the app called
Titanium Backup root

Click to collapse
.
Is there any way I can get out of this mess? And maybe make my phone accessible again.
And if somehow by sheer stroke of luck and your expertise, if I do get out of this mess, is there any way to root my phone again and recover the apps or appdata from the already made CWM backup? or the Titanium Backup I made (or is it gonna be gone because of the factory reset?).
Thank you in advance for any help or try you might

Yeah, but then will I be able to restore from the same backup (cwm) that's causing problems now, or will it not work even then?
And what about the backup I made with the Titanium Backup app, will I be able to retrieve app data from there?
Because the very reason I was backing it all up was to protect the app data, and it's pretty important. So is it possible to save it after stock flashing?
The stock recovery flasher will help u get out of that loop. Check the link posted above.
