[Q] Problems when copy a file more than 4GB to XPERIA S - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi all !!
As i know, Xperia S has a build-in memory. I had unlock bootloader and install the ka room. In this room has a SD card mount feature.
Using this app to connect my phone to PC, my PC will recognize my phone as a USB.
The problem is i can not copy any file more than 4GB to my phone. Because of the partition is as FAT32, not NTFS.
So how can i copy a large file (more than 4GB) to my phone ????

You'll have to reformat the partition or split the file.

It's a known limitation of FAT32.
Why do you need a thread for this?

You can try format to NTFS, but your device can become buggy

Use a external hdd that is formatted in ntfs! With a usb otg (on the go) adapter ofc...

err.. i dont think the phone cant read ntfs (YET )
i've to make two partitions in my 16 gB UFD, so the phone can recognize it. i think the ability to read ntfs partition is done in the kernel, and none of the kernel for SXS done this (YET )
so: use hjsplit (or any archiver) if it's only for storage... or re-encode it if it's a video player.

[Q] Is it possible to make a bootable sdcard partition?

Hi community,
I plan on buying a new 32gb sdcard for my Xperia ray. What i plan to do is letting the phone use most of the space on the sd card but creating a second partition for a different purpose.
The purpose is to use that partition just like a normal windows(ntfs or fat) usb disk and eventually making it bootable for PC's. I carry my usb stick with me that i made bootable via easyboot and installed the tools i need which i wanna get rid of if my phone has the same capabilities.
Questions are
Will a pc recognize that partition as a bootable device and eventually boot?
If yes, will i need to set anything on my android such as usb debugging etc. after connecting?
or will that partition be independent from the android partition? (i guess this is a low possibility since the partition is on the sdcard and that is mounted to the android os, but may be android calls the partition sdcard thus not hugging the second partition)
bump
can noone comment on that?
I think the app switch me can do this, but I'm not really sure how that app works.

I boot some of my boxes off of SD cards mounted in USB drive adapters, so I can tell you that it's possible, but I'm not sure about how android handles it.

normally it supports fat and ext filesystems but if you want to connect ntfs devices you have to root your phone first then install ntfs mounter.
**** be carefull if you root your phone ,OTA updates wont install anymore which i am stuck between these two and i chose not to root the phone
another solution is that you convert the external hard filesystem to EXT and connect it to phone

ntfs mounter just kept crashing everytime I tried to connect my hdd

Will root required for use USB OTG?

i want to know that to use pen drive in my s3 via otg cable should i have to root my phone?

no
no, you don't need to root
I have one out of the box. All I've done was the update to 4.1.1 OTA. I can read a pendrive, no problems.
If you have problems, it could be the format of your pendrive. It doesn't read ntfs. I had to format in fat32. exfat also works, but my TV can't read exfat and I use the same pendrive for TV and smartphone.

Help me please

Yes its true. If some usb drive consumes more power it will not work.

thats not the case. It depends on power consumption.. ive been using 8gb pendrives for my XU without problems its just the matter of which brand usb drive ur using try with some other company. Ive tested : Sandisk Cruze 8GB, Strontium Bold 8GB
I am using a 16gb flash drive working fine on my otg cable on Note 3. In order for it to work I formatted it to use FAT32 instead of NTFS. Seems android doesnt like NTFS.
Just keep in mind the limitations of FAT32 you wont be able to copy a single file larger that 4gb or maybe even 2gb onto the drive.
wait up.... there is nothing with the GB's of the pendrive u try with a low power device (all model SanDisk pendrives have no issues with otg and recently Strontium has launched OTG special versions that are fast as well as consume less power)
Mostly the devices with a flashing LED's will not work as they consume more power than the others... but there is little hack to make it work but u need ROOT and Terminal emulator .
Can u Tell more about this hack?

plug in the device into the otg cable and then the cable into the phone.
wait till the power consumption error message is displayed.
using a root explorer(e.g. es file explorer) go to the folder 'root>sys>bus>usb>devices>1-1'
open the file 'bConfigurationValue' with a text editor(es text editor in my case). It should be blank. Edit and put the value 1 and save the file.
Your device will now be mounted and the message will be displayed in the statusbar.
try this
but by the way if the pendrive is shown empty then format it to fat32 format and it'll work fine

Paragon NTFS or StickMount - no mount

Hi Guys,
i have the Tab S 10.5 and rooted it.
No i tryed to get a NTFS HDD to run. So i installed Paragon NTFS ... and i have a external HDD with own power adapter. Furthermore i bought a USB - HUB also a own power adapter. The Paragon app find the harddisk an i can click on mount, but nothing happened even if i try to click on automatic mount or own manual folder choose. It is doing something, say that the HDD is mounted, but in the menue of Paragon, it is declared as unmounted. The same in StickMount, it says the HDD is mounted to folder XY, but there is nothing inside .
Is anyone able to mount external HDD's?
NTFS isn't supported officially. I had to format my microsd card into exfat to get it to work.
Stickmount should work - did u let it download the files when you first run it?
Hm yes it downloaded the files and now if i click on mount, it do it but in the folder there is no file from the harddisk, i tried it with a 1tb and 3tb disk.
Furthermore i can check and repair the disks and the tool is saying everything is fine, but i cannot se anything in the folder where it is mounted.

Tried with my Ntfs flash drive - same on stock and stickmount. Formatted to exfat, works on both.
Guess Samsung changed something that broke stickmount as well.

I got my NTFS drive working using Paragon_NTFS for non-rooted mounting and then opened it with Total Commander. Going the Paragon rooted way didn't work for me either.

Paragon the app does require it. But the company Paragon also developed a plugin for Total Commander. I was going to post the link but I'm under 10 posts for the forum so I can't.
Anyways just search "USB plugin for Total Commander" or Paragon and that all should come up. You need Total Commander as well but it does not require root.
