[Q] How to enable mass storage mode? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

When I connect the phone to my PC via USB, I only get two options. One is a media mode and the other is a camera mode. Either mount the phone as a normal hard drive (like my Galaxy S1 does). While the media mode does allow me to copy files to the phone, it is really slow.
Is there a way to put the T999 in USB mass storage mode?

+1... this is stupid

Are you rooted yet? Requires root, but it also has some warnings not to use it yet.

It doesn't work for us yet

On a Mac...
You have to install the Android File Transfer: http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
You also, when connected, have to change it from MTP to Camera... It'll load automatically on my Macs now.
On a PC, changing it to Camera makes it just connect and open up an explorer window.

After working with the phone for a few days I find I am using dropbox more and more as a replacement for connecting to my PC via USB. We'll see how it goes.

DROPBOX app

so i'm trying to upload videos to my computer and came across dropbox. I tried it out but was unsuccessful. videos will not upload from my phone onto the app.
what are other ways of uploading videos from the vibrant to a computer ?
USB cable?
Sent from THE Vibrant......
I use dropbox and awesomedrop from http://labs.dashwire.com/drop/android and they work without a hitch.
Dropbox really is a great way to transfer files between multiple devices including you phone, but since it does have to sync with the cloud it is not as fast as a direct connection. Sometimes you just have to be patient, movies are large.
As always, if you need to sign up for a Dropbox account you should always use this this link --> https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTEyNTA5OTQzOQ?src=global0 <--

NO MINE
So I just tried out AwesomeDrop and it only lets you drop files from the computer onto your phone.
I need to do the opposite. Video from phone to computer.
I tried the usb route but I cannot seem to find video files on the folder that pops up on the computer screen. Maybe it's cause I cannot seem to find a way to choose mass store from my vibrant.
When I pop in the usb cable to the phone from laptop I get no pop up menu asking to choose mass storage on the phone ......

My USB setting was on MassStorage. SO I now have no clue what to do . I'm trying upload a video to youtube from my phone and cannot figure out how.
Man ! I thought this was going to be easy ...
I tried uploading a video str8 from my phone using the share>youtube>upload but I guess my video is too long for that to work.
Video is about 7mins long.
You may have a USB interconnectivity issue. I have noticed intermittent issues myself with various ROMs. Try rebooting the phone.

Are you on WiFi? I don't have any vids longer than a few minutes, but the ones I had I was able to upload via share from gallery. HD quality vids required me to be on WiFi though.

I'm not sure what you mean by interconnectivity issue, but rebooting the phone definitely worked out ..

As far as ROMS goes I will soon be rooting my phone for the first time and will be trying out new ROMS ... Can't wait.

about the MTP mode and ....

When I connected my tab to the computer using usb cable, it popped up with MTP and the tab shows in the windows explorer.
But after I push the home button and quit the MTP mode, how can I bring MTP mode back without plug in/out the usb case? Is there any shortcut? Thanks.
How can I share files between tab and computer without using the usb cable?
My computer don't have bluetooth and I don't prefer wifi ad hoc p2p connect.
I feel a bit regret to buy the tab as not to have the sd card slot is really inconvenient. I cannot move the pic in the camera to the tab easily.

Get websharing app from market to copy files without using cables. Trial version lets you copy 1 file at a time. Paid version lets you copy multiple files at once.
Also, regretting about anything is just waste, search and you will find answers to all your questions in abundance, that has most and all the solutions.

Thanks. I will try it.
I searched for MTP and could not find an answer.
Just got another question: How can I reduce the volumn of the feedback "ding" when pressing the menu?

anyone got a shortcut to start mtp without taking cable out and in?
I can't get MTP back at all, I tried to do a factory reset and uninstall lord but nothing works.
Also tried using the "kies saver"from Samsung apps but it wouldn't work either.
Can someone please help me

You mean you are not able to see the tab in the computer after connecting it or the MTP screen is not displayed on the tab?
FYI :
After the latest update MTP screen is shown only when some file operations are going on. Not always when the it is connected to the computer as earlier.

Turn USB Debugging off. I have the Galaxy S 2 on Sprint and it has a terrible habit of turning it on by itself, which disables MTP mode. Not sure where in Honeycomb the setting is, but on my phone it is under settings - applications - development.
Uncheck that and problem solved I bet.

On the tab.
But when I want to update the tab I'll get a message that says "unable to convert to update mode".
and I can only transfer small images otherwise it shuts down (kies)

I bought a USB connecyion kit and use a small USB stick. I also use it for backing up data so that when I do a hard reset on my Tab I ca njust plug the USB stick in and restore all data using Titanium Backup.

Try another cable? That's always step 1. If that doesn't work, try a different USB port on the PC; try restarting the PC.
I have even tried using my laptop! Same thing, no notification. There is no option in settings to connect to pc either. I know on older roms i remember seeing that option on my phone:confused. Would deleting the android secure folder have anything to do with that?

If you have the SDK installed on your computer you can try using adb. The stock camera app generally puts your photos in /sdcard/DCIM/Camera.
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/DCIM/Camera
This should copy all of those photos to whatever directory you are currently in, in your terminal.
Edit: Also, you might want to try another USB cable. My last usb cable gave me similar problems and eventually stopped working even for charging.

[Q] Anyone else experiencing this?

Sup my XDA'erzz... Hey so real quick is anyone experiencing issues with Android File Transfer and a Mac? I'm specifically using a Macbook Pro i& quad-core with a SSD and running OS X 10.9 Mavericks... I never had these issues with my Verizon OG HTC One 32GB... But since picking up a Verizon HTC One Max 32GB Android File Transfer refuses to work and for the life of me I can't figure out why.. If I just plug it in nothing happens unless I manually launch AFT and then I receive a message that says please connect your android device with a usb cable. If I plug it in and restart the phone it picks it up but then says can not connect to device... It's extremely annoying because I'm working on some ROMs for it and I have to constantly ADB push everything....... Not that big of deal but I'd still like to be able to mount my storage where everything is visible and can add/remove as I please.... Any suggestions would be great, thanks guys!!
Try using a different cable. Sometimes its a simple solution thats overlooked.

Reinstall drivers, not a mac user so idk if you need the fastboot or adb files from sdk. But if you do, reinstall those exe files

Did you look at what the usb phone setting is on. I know there are extra ones like modem or something or other that could prevent transfer.
I am having similar issues, the mtp file transfer mode seems to borked. I can get files from phone but not send em. I've been mounting my external sd as drive then moving the files using root explorer.
Of course.. It always shows that MTP mode is enabled but does nothing when you tap it, and also shows usb is connected on the phone but when taping that it brings up only options for internet passthrough and sharing etc...

Right. Internet passthrough and others. Dont some of those stop file transfer when active.

Could be the USB 3.0 intermittent issue. Try a powered hub that is USB 2.0 as if your notebook is new enough most likely the USB ports are all 3.0.
Just saying.

Mate 10 transferring files with Win10

Hey. Just want to get some music files on my phone. This HiSuite business sucks.
Can some one help or redirect me. Please.
Best solution: scrap Windows 10
Second-best solution: use WiFi File Explorer (I personally use the paid Pro version)
Third-best solution: use AirDroid
Once you've done a few file transfers using WiFi, you'll wonder why you ever bothered with a cable in the first place.
I've been using My Phone Explorer on androids for years http://www.fjsoft.at/en/

If you have no use for HiSuite, ditch it, it's more of a pain than it's worth.
Once you've ditched HiSuite, you will be able to drag and drop files to your phone without issue.

Try turning off usb debug, and when your phon asks charging or file management, choose file management (or something like that).
Airdroid is a piece of crap now compared to Airmore. I've been using airdroid for few years, but when you have to transfer large files, it always stop before the end. Airmore is way more reliable than airdroid.
To ditch Hisuite, juste uninstall it from your computer, and when you plug your phone you have a notification : click on it and change from "charging only" to "MTP"

I don't have the luxury of wifi. Sounds nice.
MTP is set up but HiSuite autoloader pops up on my PC.
I'm going to just use ADB for file transfers.

I just use adb, it's way faster than using Windows Explorer.
The OP probably has solved his/her issue already, but what i did with my Huawei GR5 is uninstall Hi-Suite ( with CC cleaner ) , plug the phone in via usb cable , then ignore what pops up on the laptop or cancel it , goto the phone and scroll down from the top to get the notifications , find the USB option which should be on charge only ( nothing highlighted ) and click on the 'Files' option under the USB icon . Then a represntation of my phones storage pops up and let me modify any files on my phone ie add music or videos . hope this may help some peoples having issues in the future .
