Anyone tried ICS for xperia mini yet?? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Anyone tried ICS for xperia mini yet?? Please give feedback about the rom used. I would like to see which ICS for XM I wanna use thanks!

anyone? :highfive:

I can say only about official ICS.
I was excited about update and the wait was painful, but when was released, I reverted back to old official rooted firmware with Launcher Pro and alot of stock aps removed.
I don't like the new ICS. The interface is realy ugly in my opinion. It looks like an alpha build without a proper theme. The text is fuzzy, but there is a font size feature. The small is useless, the medium looks more fuzzy than in GB and large is way to large.
What can you do in ICS and can't do in GB ? The only cool feature I found is the integrated advanced data traffic monitor, and larger file size on photos. (but the camera apk was redesigned with bad interface) In GB I installed a modded camera apk with better quality compression for photos and videos, and the default data monitor is enough for me (update v6)
They say the ICS require better hardware. I don't know how it works with games, because I am not interested, but from other Xperia phones I heard that performance is worse.
For me, ICS brings nothing great for my Mini. Maybe is better for other phones but for Mini the long awaited ICS looks like its ported in a rush in few days. Maybe Android 5 will worth the update.

hey thanks for the feedback. arh.. im getting so confused now. UI is nothing big for me as I use go launcher.. Main thing for me is performance. Some say its better some its worse and some the same .. Lets see any custom ICS will be better

I found MiniCMSandwich Lite AOSP from kamarush pretty descent and fast.

Actually there will be Android 4.1, and there might be even a chance to get updates for it.

Other OS on Xperia X10

Hi all, bought my Xperia X10 a few weeks ago, liked design but dissapointed with OS, i didn't like Android at all, updated my phone to 2.1 but now I don't like it even worse because, I liked the lock screen on 1.6 some other features too, in addition Android Market is missing on my phone so very bad situation here. So I'm thinkin of installing any other OS on my phone for example Windows 6.5 or 7 , or I don't know Ubuntu or just something I'm very dissapointed with this phone!!! Please help and thanks beforehand.
Impossible to let it run on Windows mate, android is totally different. To compare the impossibility, you want to take pictures with a microwave...
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
Yeah I know that it's different but I got very dissapointed that it doesnt have multitouch support, very bad sensors and many other things that has the phone which costs even less. I could have bought HTC or Samsung but I'm fan of SE. This is offtopic but have you got any nice players that read AVI' or other formats. Installer rockplayer but it's very laggy only 8-9 FPS :S Thanks mate
you should give it some time to get used to android, i must admit a stock X10 is not what it should be, but with some tweaks here and there its a superb device. I suggest you take a look at the forums here at XDA (JIT, Root, battery optimization, speed optimization, etc..)
And Multi-touch is incoming, so be patient.
be courage and do some mods
and you'll like the android OS
Thankw guys i'll try and appreciate u'r help

rock player is fantastic on mine - i would consistently get well over 20fps. i think you will find that once you move away from the standard ROM you will be much more impressed. Try changing things like:
- Launcher (Launcher Pro or ADW) and remove stock launcher
- Root access - remove the standard crappy apps that you dont need.
- Baseband - update to the latest baseband for small increase in performance
- Custom ROM (using xRecovery Menu)
- JIT - gives big boost in 2.1 ROMS
I was like you, wanting winmo on the x10 cause i didn't like android now well android is good, I have skype which i can't have on winmo anymore, android is smoother you will like it trust me

how did you get the update
I updated with SEUS . I don't risk installing any uneeded applications. I have just Adobe Photoshop, Skype, Teamviewer. I don't fill up my phone with rubbish. And by the way can I get default Memory Card content? I formatted it by mistake now I regret so wanted to get default content on it. I wondered if it's possible to install Android 2.2 or I don't know any Android version to get Android market or can anyone send my Android Market apk file Thanks

Xperia Mini Pro users: Should I get one?

Hi all. Long time reader first time poster. Question to you folks out there. I've read up on the Xperia Mini (+Pro). I'm looking for a small form-factor Android phone with a snappy(dragon) speed processor, and want your advice.
1) Would you buy the phone today? If not, why? I know there's bigger and faster, but I don't see on the market anything faster that's as small. I know Sony doesn't talk, but do we think there's a refreshed model coming out soon in 2012 that I should wait for?
2) I'm replacing my Samsung Captivate- can I do these things that I liked to do: a) easy to root/sideload etc? I don't flash ROMs, but do some Rooty stuff.
3) I like swype. Does swype run on the Experia Pro?
4) Suggestions on Mini vs. Mini Pro? I like swype, but if this thing is as small as it looks, should I be looking to get the Pro/keyboard version?
5) GPS never worked on my Craptivate. Does it work well on this phone?
I've got more questions, but I'll start with that!

I have the mini and love it. I have had no issues with it at all. in reply to your questions:
1 - would buy again. the Processor is fast enough. I've never had lag. Also it will get the ice cream sandwich update so the software will stay current on the mini for a while.
2 - I rooted the phone using superoneclickroot which took 1 click. But the latest software update for the phone may mean that root might not be available ~yet~ (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455216 ). If you're buying current stock then more than likely the software update to 62 hasn't been applied yet, so rooting is easy.
3 - I use swiftkey as a keyboard replacement, you can use any android app so swype should work too.
4 - How much do you really use the keyboard? I figured that one of the main reasons in getting the phone was for it to be small & lightweight, so the mini was the smallest & lightest, I used to have a Droid with a keyboard, but now don't miss the keyboard at all.
5 - GPS works fine. I think GPS issues were a Samsung thing?
I'm a mini pro user and must say I'm pretty happy with my phone. But to answer some of your questions I wouldn't buy this phone if I were buying it now, and it's only because I'd really like a bigger screen and perhaps a longer battery as well but these are in no way reasons not to go for this phone. In all my time using it I really had no issues whatsoever and can't find any remarks why not to choose this phone besides personal preference.
The rooting is quite easy excluding the latest firmware which just takes some alternative methods to do, but is not in any way extra hard.
Swype can be used but if you take the mini pro you will most probably get used to the hardware keyboard and will at most times avoid using the on screen one as the hardware keyboard is way more comfortable and easier to use.
Also the GPS works really well, and the phone itself also includes a special module that allows the use of the new tracking technology implemented by the Russians (can't remember the name). So you will have acces to about ten or more satelites (compared to other GPS modules of other phones) which give you faster lock on and more precise measurements.
All in all this phone will not disappoint you, or at least it has not disappointed me.

Brov i would advice yu to get one... am planning of get one soonest too!!!
tha only hinderance about tha phone is dat its small but still handy!
1) Yes, I would. I really like my little phone... I have no idea if any successor is planned - but if so, I don't think it'll be as cheap as the mini/mini pro at the moment.
I also really like the stock launcher, I like the hardware keyboard, the form factor, the speed of the CPU. The camera sucks, the batterylife is mediocre and the display resolution could be higher but it's still a very good phone.
2) I'm quite sure yes. I broke my root with the newest update (but didn't really need it at the moment) but I'm sure the community will come up with a new root very soon.
3) I think so
4) AFAIK the mini does have fewer problems with overall reception (GPS, GPRS, UMTS, WiFi). But - I want the keyboard!! The screen really is quite small - I don't want half of it used by the onscreen keyboard. On top of it - I'm really a lot faster with the hardware one - feels good, works well. TBH, the mini never was a valid option for me.
5) Yes, it does work but compared to other phones the reception is quite poor in my opinion. I don't need it on a day-to-day basis so it's not a deal breaker to me.
Tha main truth is tha SUCCESSOR of dis phone cant be sold dat amount!!! i just love XMP.... I must get it!
If you are interested (and in the UK) I'm selling one. It has only 2 days use, and last night I unlocked the bootloader, put CWM recovery on it, and put NeoDroid's V4 ROM and kernel on it.
Advert here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477219&highlight=xperia+mini+pro
Indeed a nice little phone. Much much snappier since I put the custom ROM on it. Got it overclocked to a safe 1.2GHz and removed all the bloatware. Running it as my daily use phone for a few days to make sure there are no bugs.
I've had mine for a few months and would still get one.
The screen is small/low resolution, but it fits in my pocket and there's very little out with a keyboard here.
SE made it easy to unlock, so I have a custom kernel and have no problems with it set to 1.6GHz.
I didn't like the launcher at all with its corners thing, but that's easy to replace
Sorry- I'm in the US, would need a version that could run on AT&T's network bands

Launchers like ADW, there's a few on the market
Custom kernels give a few more options, (Rage/KarmaRush) so something like setCPU or Tasker can set it to a higher CPU speed

Hello
1. I had an Xperia X10 mini pro, but bought an Xperia mini pro a few month ago. I am very happy with this phone and would buy the same again, if this one broke.
If you need a phone now, buy it now, It is a nice phone, the only problem I see is the that it can run out of RAM, but then get a kernel that supports SWAP, so you can get some paged memory.
2. I think that it is easy to root, even though it was easier on the Xperia X10 mini pro. The biggest problem is that you it is hard to switch back to the stock ROM. But Once you have tried CM7, will you never return (and CM9 is on the way).
3. I do not know about the Xperia pro, but I have not seen it on the Xperia mini pro, but there are very similar keyboards.
4. Personally I would never buy the Xperia mini. The pro version is not that much bigger and it actually has a very nice keyboard.
5. The GPS of the Xperia mini pro is working very nice here in Denmark. I actually use it as my primary GPS (even though I have a TomTom). I have seen some problems if I am too far out in the country and surrounded by big trees. But in exception of that am I very happy with the GPS of the Xperia mini pro combined with Google Maps.

You should try to install "GO Launcher EX" from the market.
hnl_dk thanks for dat info.... i think i ll buy it early nextmonth!
but yu talk bout Go Launcher EX, is it better dan tha ADW+??? but i thought Go Luanhcer EX is use for themes cos i use to see alongside themes.
Ok- I have to ask- what is with your grammar and spelling? I wouldn't mind if you said that you were not a native english speaker- where are you from? sorry.
I will start with the problems I have with Mini Pro
* Low resolution - You wont be able to play some games
* Small Screen -Nut can't take it as a big negative because its a MINI pro
As for your queries there is nothing in the current market which has the same or better hardware and is small .In the world of gadgets/technology it is normal for some product to be squished by a better one and it is inevitable so there is no use waiting for a newer one .
You can easily ROOT your phone ,there is a simple tool available - connect phone, click root and your done .
I don't think you will need swype because of the physical keyboard .But yes it will run.
Mini has no keyboard thats all .
GPS works without any issues .

They can both do themes, and I think there's free versions to try out. The difference is just preference, things like a few options or speed
I have no idea about XMP, I just used screenshot from the power button
I just recently got my SE Xperia Mini Pro, and I'm loving it. For the price I payed for it, I am surprise they are making a profit. My budget was around £250, I checked many phones and many didn't have the specs I was looking for. I needed a fast and good quality camera phone and the Mini Pro lives up to its standard.
Pros
Very fast phone, only crashes when you put it to the extreme
Camera is amazing, really surprised with the picture quality
Can run most apps and games without any problem
Hardware keyboard is really sturdy
SE has added Swype in the 2.3.4 update for the Mini Pro
Cons
Screen a bit small for typing
The outside feels like cheap plastic
This is a great phone for the price. If your budget is low, definitely get this one, If your budget is higher, a bigger screen might do better

MIUI ..how great is it?

hi all , i always loved miui ...it looks like iphone but in some ways better ...but in this forum miui roms don't seem to get popular ..at least cm / stock based rom seems to appeal more to the public ..why ?
my jaw dropped when i saw this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej7Qt1NHewQ
miui is so polished and the ui is really great .. i never use stock launcher but this miui launcher might change my mind ..i never use a hdpi device before so i never used miui ...so long story short ..why are miui less popular compared to stock / cm based roms ? ( at least from view ...)
Because its not a Samsung rom and because less people know about it and because i don't like it .
jje
sweriously?? i thought miui is popular ..and why don't you like it ? i am pretty mainstream when it comes to roms ...and is muiu v4 stable for sgs2?
Loved Miui on GB with AOSP framework, hate V4 with Samsung framework.
'nuff said really.
MIUI is indeed a great rom, ive been using it for long time i recently changed back to litening rom just cos of ICS, Miui ics was not that stable for s2 at the moment. Miui has many great features one of them was native data control and open vpn support, which i used a lot.
They have the best notification bar and the level of Ui Customization it provides no other rom has it afaik.

whats wrong with miui v4 besides stabiblity ?
Given making a Nandroid backup of your current setup/restoring same takes all of 5 minutes, why not try it for yourself & see how you find it ?

I prefer Samsung thats why i bought Samsung its as simple as that .
Neither do i like CM nor in fact the majority of themed custom roms on XDA .Nor as of yet ICS in any shape or form .
jje
alot of people use MIUI. v4 is still new, so has some bugs, but galnetmiui is stable enough for daily use for me. great rom.
Miui. or rather Wiui roms (both GB and v4) are what i expected from an android phone.
My ONLY complain concerning v4 based on samsung firmware is... the phone.apk being samsung, thus not matching the miui eyecandy. Other than that, everything is working out of the box. I honestly don't see why people are hating on the samsung base. (but to be fair, i was skeptical too at first).
But we all should wait for more stable releases of both CM9 base and sammy base. I think its too early to compare.
My point, there are feature which are default on miui that i missed on stock/whatever.
And yes, you can get most of those things using certain tweaks and apps on any other rom, but it works out of the box in miui.
-great theming engine (in GB at least, the one in v4 is not working fully yet)
-top bar battery (god i love this feature)
-possibility to drop the notification bar in fullscreen apps. (before i discovered that in miui i was like, wth, iOS has it and android doesn't ? D
-awesome lockscreen + flashlight (yes you can get that on any rom now too)
-dialer (yes exDialer, i know)
-how settings are displayed (i loved the way it was presented in GB, but i know some hated it so much).
my only complain is the launcher. maybe im doing something wrong, but it doesn't feel as smooth as for instance go launcher (transition wise).
plus, the adding widget thingy, once you have a lot of widgets can be really annoying.
other than that, miui ftw !
I am also wondering and raising same questian like OP why are miui less popular compared to stock / cm based roms ?
to whom ever I suggested and made installed MIUI, for my wife, cousin, friend....they all liked very much....none of them want to change back to any other....
Ladies will specially like it due to its superb themes, they chage the theme along with their dress.....whch are available in hundreds, in any type in any colours.......which changes the complete look of the phone in a single tap....applaying on background, font, dialer, sms, toggle/notification bar...almost on everything....what a great ROM....
GB is very stable now, 2.3.9 for SGS2 of both Galnet's and MIUIandroid.uk,
advertize maximum for MIUI, let people know its goodies.....
MIUI V4 2.3.30 is Very good~~
i ahve to agree...to be honest i don't have a sgs2 now ..getting it end of this year >.<

I agree. MIUI is must have rom
miui is nice.. although i dont like.. the galaxy s2 itself looks a bit like the iphone, miui tries to copy the iphone interface onto android.. what's to like? sure it has some nifty functions more.. but i want when people see my phone power on not to ask me is this and iphone? come on... yea it is an iphone.. but's the best iphone anyone could produce! it's the iphone that apple will never make.. !!! that's why i dont like miui.. i like apple products, but not iphone.. funny thing.. let me tell you a story about a friend of mine.. why she wants an iphone? she says because on the iphone when you log into facebook it looks the same as on pc!! and i ask: that's it? she says: yeah.. that's why i want an iphone.. my current smartphone (pretty strong words for a nokia) logs into facebook but it looks different... all i could say is: *****, your argument is invalid!

SE ICS: A Bad Deal?

I've just been re-reading the official Sony comparison of their Gingerbread and ICS offering. This time I've had the chance to read more properly all the things they said. For the first time I actually have sympathy for Sony. The manufacturers bring out phones (e.g. SE) with the Xperias 2011 all running Gingerbread from the very start, then the next Google upgrade wipes out the phones. I owned the 2010 X10 Mini and our phone got wiped out the same way. It seems to me that we consumers do not benefit. Anyone who comes to this forum is already a bit of tech. nut, we are a very small population of the whole market, of course we want to try what's new and hot. But in this blog, Sony is explicitly saying that ICS is much, much more demanding on system resources and that we will definitely see a fall in performance, they clearly reference longer boot up time, apps force closing and stalling as well as poor video performance for different reasons that they explain in the blog.
http://developer.sonymobile.com/wp/...nical-differences-between-gingerbread-and-ics
Now I want to wait before I upgrade and check out the news. A few new icons and wallpapers is NOT good enough reason for me to upgrade. Better battery is a good reason to wait, which in that blog, Sony says you will get with Gingerbread over ICS. Do we really benefit here? Do we have to buy a new phone every year now, because Google is bumping up the demands of Android, like Microsoft did with Windows Vista? Windows 7 has less requirements than Vista, only slightly, and 8 has the same requirements as 7 so at least we could use the same laptop/pc for a few years. With Google, the way they are doing this is screwing us over I think.
For you, stay with Gingerbread, move to ICS, not sure or want to wait?
Ray users say they havent experienced any major bugs... Battery is definitely poor for now.....
Sent from my WT19i using XDA
I think on the minis and active devices we have the advance of having a smaller resolution area while having almost the same hardware as the other xperia 2011
Sent from my SK17i using XDA
They are really both very good points: we can look to the current Sony beta roms for more clues and it is true, our smaller screen being powered by the same CPU is an advantage. Perhaps we Mini users will have the least trouble amongst the 2011 Xperias?
Gingerbread would still be the most dominant OS, due to its stability on most phones,
having a new OS or phone is not always the best option.
I really thank the devs here in XDA, they are keeping old phones alive,
giving us a chance to have a taste of the new flavor and further improving stock OS on current phones.
I just recently read about the Xperia S Rom ported to Xperia X10 here, how cool is that...?
I'll choose the custom ICS rom.. sony and other manufacturer has done nothing but giving us all those bloatware while calling it "feature" rather than craps. + I see upgrade as change in UI, but sony's ICS UI has not change much compared to GB
Sent from my Xperia Mini Pro using xda premium
you can always remove the bloatwares , though of course with custom roms we can do a lot of things which are still restricted even with a rooted stock rom

I'll choose the custom ICS rom.. sony and other manufacturer has done nothing but giving us all those bloatware while calling it "feature" rather than craps. + I see upgrade as change in UI, but sony's ICS UI has not change much compared to GB

If you want a different UI, just use a different home.apk? Just saying...
But yea i'm with the OP on these thoughts, have had the same thoughts for quite some time now. The thing is, we can make ICS faster on our devices just as we did with GB, but... How stable will the non-stock ICS roms be? Honestly I would rather see MIUI roms derived from GB as a base than ICS. A lot more stable with less bugs. Even the MIUI roms aren't AOSP based (as are official MIUI releases), they are FXP based roms. So, all in all we are between Stock and FXP releases.
I am not bashing on people working on developing MIUI and various ICS based roms, but like the OP, i'd rather have stability over "new features", such as full HW acceleration, which can be triggered using a variable in GB too (mind you that uses more juice).
I am going to seriously think about moving Spartan Rom from stock GB rom as a source, to stock ICS as a source.
Even if the battery consumption, which in my list of priorities for a fully functional rom is the highest in the list, is sub-par, I wont be switching over to ICS personally.
@drumraden if you see about other devices there are lots of stable roms are available (mostly aosp based, even I am using a stable custom rom for my Xoom)
We just need to give time to the devs to come up with stable ice roms.

You don't get my point.
The only reason to build an MIUI from ICS sources, is for the **** of saying its ICS therefore updated.
Yeah as for battery drain, I'm afraid Sony says on that site above that battery will be less durable with official ICS. What a shame. The discussion here though is really making me thing about all of this.
Yeah I am seriously thinking of going back to gb as soon as there is a good miui rom I am right now on ics because there is only one really stable miui release for the lww and it is ics but i really prefer better battery life.
On the other hand I prefer ics over hb a thousand times on my tab but it has like 7 times the battery of my phone so I have no issue with that.
I'll prefer ICS when main apps start to requires ICS.
While the requirements surround the GB I'll stick with it.
But it's nice to know that if it occurs my phone will be ready.
That's why I bought my mini-pro.
Personally, I will first give it a try. Then we will see, if it deserves to stay on my LWW or not...
yup ... sure will giv official a try ... but the best rom on gb wud be miui .... is that project still going on or has been dumped ?
i think lasan is still currently working on the GB MIUI port...

I'm running Kamarush's ICS version for sk17i: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434001
and that works like a charm. all features that I need on a daily basis, it's really stable, and it's super fast, so if SE say it's more demanding, than that's just not true. All the roms here are so much faster than stock, because here people care about the roms. it feels like the big companies just put something together but never care to optimize it. android's biggest advantage is the custom stuff.
I do feel sorry for anybody running stock software though

One simple question... How much battery %/hour does the rom you have installed consume in standby mode with all radios except mobile turned off.

JellyBean ported to our Flyer

Well,
i tried to see if the jellybean could somehow run, and currently it seems to run just as the ICS port that chaos did.
im still struggling with the bluetooth on it, but basically it seems to work, i still am not sure its h/w/egl accelerated.
but it runs, but looks pretty much like our ICS build with pretty much the same flaws and problems, except it using framework from 4.1.1.
im testing gps and other part the next days and might upload but cannot promise continued work on it, since our kernel is still the primary reason for missing camera and proper app switching and performance tweaks of kernel 3.x.
btw, it was based based on desireHD+tf201 builds. libs of DHD and framework from tf201 (got AdvancedPowerMenu builtin)
got problems with 160 as density, then its still with mobile view, 120 works, but very small.
Hi any news on development with port on one v ?
Is that his would be more functional to have a port with the htc ville C2? with HTC Sense
Thx for trying Dexter. How r the odds to improve the port? Same as XXL port?

well,
it goes forward. wifi, gps, compass, sound, vibrator, accelerometer, light sensor ..works..
camera, bluetooth and a fuzzy touch display when scrolling(as seen in other ics port)
I think the mobile view your seeing is the new 7 inch tablet mode. Basically the ui and launcher all look like a phone, while all the apps run in tablet view. I'm mixed on it myself, would be ok with it if the launcher worked in tablet mode. Good job nonetheless and good luck!

For me scrolling issue is the most annoying. It doesn't let us feel the fluidity of ICS and JB. And, fluidity is the USP of these higher versions. Though I use camera often also, but fluid scrolling is must for me. And, this is our main reason why we want ics on our device.

agree, and that is part of the onexxl rom, but sorry, i do not see it here and display drivers are not compatible.
but important is also that drivers are not native for this device, i might be in better luck porting a OneV rom, when its official.
i tried parts of the nexus one where possible, and still not much improved here.
camera i live without, i got a mobile + real camera beside this one.
So I guess Drew will not release his "build" because you have one now?

I think we harassed him enough on the sgs 3 forum that he is done lying about the flyer

well, i am trying to port kernel changes to this rom, since chaos kernel compile, disables touch display for me, so im trying to see if i can get better performance on it with chaos work here, but unlike others, i cannot promise it works out. i am just trying for the fun.
i move from the tf201/dhd release to the official ota from nexus , so its odex'd for now, but does boot faster
okay,
i spend quite some time on it, and still no real progress.
media player is not using hardware decoding. and seems unstable when playing games.
i thought i had netflix working, but only upto playing a movie, and it went playing without picture
so for now, i am gonna rest on this work. it looked ok, but i do not accept all the bad flaws of it.
ill post an update, if i continue to look at it. for now i'm back at OneXXL
i decided to upload my work, with the recent changes done. you will find it online soon through this thread here
