Question CID & Developer RAZR - Motorola Droid RAZR

I was looking through mbm.bin file and i have noticed some checks on the cid, where the cid is of 2types
1.Consumer phone normal razr on wich only the phone region software can be flashed/or boot normaly
2.Non consumer/developer cid.
Can someone with a developer razr copy the cid to a normal razr to see if kernels from another region can be flashed?
If this sounds like a stupid ideea please close the thread.

It's definitively not a stupid idea but it's in wrong section. That's for sure.
Anyway. This can be done by DD or CAT, but I think it'll force devs to push their's phone ID and I'm not sure any dev will want do it.
Cheers

AFAIK, RAZR Developer Edition CID partition is empty.
no need to ask someone to do the dump. Just backup & erase yours.
It will make your phone accept any region ROM. But you need to boot by bp-tools each time.
Disclaimer : I only own the locked down type

CID Unlocking

I know there is no free utility yet to CID unlock the G4 devices. Those of you that have unlocked your G4's at the IMEI-Check site http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m3000unlock.php Is this just a SIM unlock or also a CID unlock?
If it is a CID unlock are you now able to make a ROM backup using the R2SD method shown in post 8 of this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=258819&highlight=r2sd+backup
This is my main reason for wanting to CID unlock. I want to be able to make a full ROM backup with this method, before trying any new ROMs. My CID locked 9100 gives me this error "You didn't get the proper security level to download a specific image" when I try a R2SD backup

Go ahead and you will be able to do r2sd backups and restore after CID unlock at imei-check.co.uk.
Nishad
So does this CID unlock the phone if it's a G4, you're a bit unclear?
IMEI check is SIM and CID unlocking. If you are gonna do it, see my post here.
yes... using the method availble at imei-check.co.uk will very much CID-unlock your device
NOTE: There's been a lot of posts regarding this subject but the fact of the matter is that you do in fact get your phone CID-unlocked at this website despite what you may have read in other threads...
What are the security or other implications of handing over my IMEI to them? Is that safe?

No worse than handing over your credit card info to them.
IMEI Check is a reputable company, and doing what they do, it is in their best interest to safeguard your information. Also, I've never seen any complaints against them that weren't about how much they charged for their service.
They DO intimate that they can re-lock your phone remotely if you back out on payment, but if you deal in good faith, I don't ever see that as a problem.
Of course, YMMV, but probably not.
How many..?
Hi,
I've heard that my device will be CID locked again after applying one of the ROMs. Does this mean I have to CID unlock my device again??
Just to be sure I can restore my backup ;-)
I've already paid for the CID unlocking, but it seems that the extended rom specifically NEVER installs. This, to me, seems like its not unlocked if that isn't working, or at least not fully unlocked. I've run the unlocking tool (from imei-check) 3 times now, I believe, and installed many different ROMs.
How can you CHECK if the unlock worked on a G4?
moonrock You may check CID having started Prophet in mode bootloader and having started mtty142 and take command info 2 - You see your CID.
imei-check does not do unlocking ExtROM this absolutely area miscellaneous.

Check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=290831 where it's explained what arc is talking about in first paragraph
Second paragraph means that ExtROM isn't unlocked by IMEI-check because it's an independent partition of the DOC chip which is write-protected in G3 2.xx and all G4

[Q] how to tell which region your phone is from?

Hi all,
I just got my hands on a Desire X, and of course rooted it for Titanium Backup to do its thing.
Now the problem is that I see an OTA update, and can't install it because I had to flash CWM to root it.
I tried various "stock recovery" images given in the forum here, but I can't figure out which region my phone is from, so I don't know which recovery to use. On htcdev.com there's a large list of stock roms I can try to reinstall for the device, but I don't want to spend 2 days figuring out which region this phone is made for through trial and error. Is there an easy way to find out in the menus/configuration files?
Thanks!
Well, just had a moment of pure genius (not) and looked at the file name for the OTA update. It was something like OTA_ICS<blahblah>_EU_<blahblah>, so I'm going to speculate this is made for the EU region from HTC.
That said, if there's an alternative way to tell/confirm this, I'd appreciate hearing about it.
Have you tried this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35031493&postcount=25
already provided by cobje? Works for most DX owners.

whats available on htcdev.com are just a bunch of binary and source files which are not flash images.
In addition to my previous post: to find out what region your phone is from you'll need to know your phone's CID number. You can get this by installing an app called 'CID getter' from play store. CID is in red on top of the list when you run the app. You can also type "fastboot getvar cid" in command prompt with your phone connected to pc in fastboot mode.
Then compare your CID number to the ones in this list http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16186408 of CID numbers. It's for Sensation originally but I think it also goes for other HTC devices.
BEFORE applying whatever RUU make sure that it is compatible with your CID number. In the RUU thread from football you can find the list of compatible CID numbers for the RUU's he has provided (and can be found on htcdev.com).

american CID

Is it possible to flash american CID via bmm instead of the original uniqe cid of my xt910?
It will help people to flash the update via stock recovery without any need to bmm...
Only pushing the kernel and flash.
thanks... :highfive:
if its possible, can someone who handle xt912 backup his CID and upload it?

AS long i know, CID is a unique customer identification...
YOu can't use someone else cid ; unless the person wants to give information about its phone to you (i think i'm not sure)
What you want to do ? Flash to JB ?

yes, and remove all the CID FAIL thing.
Got it.
Well, i don't think someone will upload a cid for you - as i said it's a personal unique number.
You don't have any backup ?
If u don't... Get used to boot trough bp tools...

Don't get troubled, and go the safe way!
Install bmm 0.3.4, backup CID, erase CID, flash kernel from bmm, flash baseband (optional), enjoy; but you knew that already.
bmm 0.3.4 gets its way to avoid bp tools so no worries there with CID error.
It is already as easy as it needs to be :good:
PS.: from my understanding the CID is attached to chipset's imei so you can't put whatever CID you want; just your device's one, maybe this answers your question.

I didn't knew about this trick
Thanks
Just remember to flash "JB kernel-based roms" ONLY right after flashing kernel, otherwise it will not boot, if you want to get back to ics you must flash an ICS kernel to boot, you can backup your kernel before flashing the jb kernel but with erased cid you can flash any ics kernel if you forgot to do that
the safer bet will be keeping your stock ics on main system, an do all the flashing stuff in 2nd system (must activate first, there are tutorials for that) so you can easily come back flashing ics kernel and switch to system 1 if anything goes wrong.

AW: [Q] How to restore Cid.img via windows Command Prompt
What's the Error (FlashFailure System / Webtop etc...)
You need an new Motherboard if you've lost your CID Backup and wanna get rid of the Customer ID Error, but not to get your Phone back to life.
I use my RazR without CID for one year now and I flashed a lot during that time, with RSD, too.
Sent from my XT910
CID is unique ; like, if you've lost yours there is nothing you can do.
Just boot trough bptools and get used to it ; otherwise do what hsd-pilot said

I understand that you erased your CID without making a backup of it at first, if you have a backup then restore when in AP fastboot mode by fastboot flash cid cid.img.
If you did not make a backup fromyour Phone CID which I believe it's the case, then as HDpilot is saying we're all living with our phones with this CID error and happy with it because nothing stop us from flashing any ROM from any different regional location.
I have cid.img backup

[Q] Question about CID and GPE

Hi All,
So need some help. I have an ATT m8 that I did a GPE conversation following the tutorial at
http://sakitechonline.com/fully-convert-your-htc-one-m8-to-google-play-edition-w-ota-updates/
as well as a youtube video.
So there's a section about CID's and in the tutorial link, it says if my CID matches one of the ones listed, I can skip down to step #6 and install the GPE (which it did match, so I didn't change my CID to GOOGL001.) My question is, will I have issues with future OTA's? If so, do I have to start from scratch to change my CID, or can I do it as my phone currently sits right now? Also, if I do it as my phone currently sits, will it wipe my phone? Lastly, how do I go about changing my CID at this time? I know there are a few tutorials out there, but I'm not sure if I can follow them since most of the instructions to change CID's are midway through a tutorial and I'm already converted. I just don't want to brick my phone, and I've had bad luck and what not.
Any help would be great as I'm now using this phone as my primary and I don't wan't to have issues when android L finally decides to roll out. Thank you in advance!

So I ended up changing my CID to GOOGL001 from CWW__1 (or something). Is there any "prep" work I need to do to my phone besides having S-OFF before changing my CID so as not to brick it later or have issues with OTA's? Again, just don't want issues down the line that I may not foresee and wasn't sure if I can just freely change my CID without doing anything beforehand.

Dude, fire is going to rain down from the skies onto your phone. JK, if I remember correctly, the only thing I did was make sure that I had the GPE recovery installed and relock bootloader and got OTA's just fine. I am thinking about playing with the GPE again too.

That's because its not correct. You don't need to relock the bootloader to get or install OTAs. You do need stock recovery, and all system files need to be intact (if any are modified/deleted/frozen by root, they need to be restored to stock condition).
