[Q] 16gb vs 32gb version.....is it worth the extra money? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

About to purchase the tmobile galaxy s 3 and ive noticed they come as a 16gb rom or a 32gb rom. Not sure if it is worth the extra $50 or not. What do you guys think? Not exatly sure what the benefit in the long run will be if so. Please explain if possible, thanks.

I don't think it's worth the extra $50. If you really want 32GB, you could just buy an external microSD card and stick it in (up to 64GB I believe). I got the 16GB phone and put in my 16GB microSD card which costs much less than $50 these days. Plus, you'd have do wait until they get the 32GB version of the phone.

I dont think its that necessary. You can expand with a microSD card up to 64GB, and you also get 50GB of DropBox storage when you buy the phone. Im just gonna get the 16GB White model when it comes out.

I'm noticias 100% sure in S3 case but usually internal memory is faster than external cards. You must consider it.

Even if it's true, it doesn't matter. I have a Class 6 64GB Sandisk card in there and just dropped 9 gigs of music onto my phone in a minute. You can buy a 64 gb card from newegg for around $40.

Can you link the $40 64gb card?

IF you have the need go head. IT all comes down to it.
In my case, I need the internal storage for 1080p videos, pictures, apps, data apps.
And then I use the microsd card for my 35GB music collection. (Yes, I like to go around with my entire music collection in my pocket)
So for me, my choice is 32GB Galaxy S 3 and a 64GB microSD card.

isn't $50 already a bargain for double the storage? last that i remember the phones were $100 more.

the reason everyone is going bat**** over the SGSIII is because of the microSD slot. there's absolutely no reason for you to get a 32GB phone since you can pop in a 64GB microSD card if you needed more space. better question to ask yourself: what is the capacity of your current phone? if you maxed out, double the space and that's what you should be aiming for on the SGSIII. :good:

If you have to ask, do you think you need it?
I've a 64 GB µSD card whose limits I'm already reaching. $50 is a lot for 16 GB but it's not a question I need to answer.

For 50 bucks of u plan on keeping the phone for awhile id say get it.sucks when u think about or like ur paying 50 for a 16gb sd but when u consider 1st that its 16gb that u will never be able to expand to any other way and 2nd Apple would charge like 200 bucks for that extra space it makes the sting a lil easier to swallow.now of they made 256gb sd cards it would be a different story lol but since we are limited in how big of a sd card is available I'll take that extra 16 err 14....whatever ever formatting gb any day for 50 bones.nothing worst then running out of space

that's a CLASS 6 (SIX).

I plan on keeping mine for 2-3 years, so the more storage the better, so to me a 32gb phone with a 32-64gb sd card makes a lot of sense, but it really only matters what you want/need it for

Is a class 6 microSD card worth it?

I currently have a stock 8GB class 2 in the phone and i'm thinking of getting a class 6. I'm pretty much using 7 out of 8GB so i can manage it but it's getting rather close.
The 16GB one would cost me almost 60€ and that's a lot! The 8GB one would be only about 19€.
I didn't try ebay, maybe i could find something there. But given the price difference i think i'll stick with 8GB, what do you think?
The main reason i post here is to ask if there's going to be a NOTICEABLE difference in opening a gallery full of pictures, and picture saving time after taking a shot with the camera?
The HD recording is just a plus here, i just want the galery/shots taking to be faster. Anyone with experience?
thanks
EDIT: ok i've found this one on ebay and it has a USB reader so that i can still use my class 2 8gb as a usb stick so that's a money saver.
I've never had any experience with this company "Team", are their cards any good?

Well I bought it from eshop.gr and paid it 99 euros, it's 100% original but the phone itself can't handle faster chips, the difference is not that much, you might consider buying a 4 class which is by far cheaper!
i think i'll just get a class 6 8gb for 20$ and stick with that, that way i'll just use my old class 2 8gb in an adapter as a memory stick

for normal use, it sucks! i need to wait at least one minute for the gallery to open because of all my photos, isn't that because of a slow SD card? correct me if i'm wrong...
Be carefull when buying SD cards from Ebay. I bought an 8GB class 6 card once (no brand, from Hong Kong) and it turned out it's not really class 6 at all, more like class 2 or 4 (low transfer speeds). The class 6 card that came with my X10 is a true class 6 card (transfer speed of 6 MB/s).
I'm not saying all SD cards on Ebay are fake, but alot probably are (fake as in not the class they advertise).
heh, i already ordered one
it's from a top rated seller so i hope it'll be ok
thanks for the heads up
I have a class 6 16 gig, i did have a class 4 8 gig and i could not play need for speed as the game would freeze. now the game plays no problem with the class 6 card.
what does an SD card have anything to do with it?

I mean right now I have all my music on Google Music, so that saves me approx 16GB of data, and I do have a few Media Hub movies, so 32GB is spacious right now.

Yeah 32GB are definitely at a good price point; I bought an excellent SanDisk class 4 from Newegg for $33, and could have saved a few bucks with a less reputable brand.
I haven't seen prices drop at all on microSDXC cards in the last four months. I'm not holding my breath at this point that they'll be priced competitively with smaller cards any time soon.

Have you ever seen anyone selling a 128GB microSDXC? I don't think there is any technological limitation of the phone that would prevent your phone from reading even larger cards, as long as you can format them with a supported filesystem, and the SDXC standard allows up to 2TB. The limitations are just based on what's available.

Note does not see sd card contents
Having a little trouble with the external card being seen by the Note. I have a samsung 32 GB, class 10. I have pics loaded, ringtones and apks on it. Pics and apks are in the root of the card. Ebooks are in a folder called ebooks. Ringtones are in a folder- Forget how labeled, but copied from my infuse card. They work correctly.
My app installer does not see the apks. Gallery does not see the pics, but the ringtones are selectable by the settings thru contacts or setting sounds. STock ebook reader does not see my ebooks that are in a folder "ebooks".
With the file explorer on the note was able to open the sd card and install the apks manually.
How do I get the note to see the stuff on the external card?

[Q] Galaxy S3 16Gb or 32Gb?

Which are the advantages of getting the 32Gb versions to the 16Gb?
I know that it has more memory: but isn't it enough to add to the 16Gb version a powerful microSD with 64Gb for example?
At the end of the day: is it worth it to pay more for the 32GB?
Many apps can't be installed to the external SD. So if you plan on installing a lot of apps and don't mind the wait, I'd say go for the 32 gb. There's no such thing as too much storage space ;-)
Just get the 16gb and put all your media files on a memory card if 16gb is enough for all your Apps.
Internal memory is always faster then external memory. If you are not bothered about in price difference, get the 32gb version.

I find the 32gb useless for a device that lets u use memory cards.
Isn't the internal ones better quality and high speed rating though? (my S2's internal writes at over 6MB/s and reads at 50) Looking at the SDcards I can get here there aren't many in store and most are class 6 and under can't find any class 10's that aren't cheap pos or good but really expensive and unnecessary. So I'm pretty much looking at needing to buy online you add shipping to that and I might as well just get the 32GB model for ease and less hassle. It also looks like Bell Canada will have the 32GB models on launch day as well so I think I will just get that when I go to get my S3.

the price difference between the 16 & 32gb will buy a 64gb sd card, then you will have 80gb...so yea the 16gbwill have more than enough storage capacity for me.
With an sd its more than enough.
16 gb is fine for me, still have 9gb free and have a 32gb from my epic, definitely don't have any need for additional storage and I'm an audio/video podcast nut.
perfectly fine with 16gb. I just need to get an external one. I dont like to have tons of apps anyways. But the nandroid backups do take up alot of space
16 GB is more than adequate. get a 32 GB MicroSD and you will be getting the same Disc space as the high spec iPhone 4S.
16GB is fine for me same amount of space I had with my S2 that being said I do have a 64GB card installed.
I got the 16 GB one went an bought a 32 GB SDHC Class 10 SD card...so I'm good. I like the external storage for safety reasons....if you nuke your phone, you won't loose your pics and stuff, but beware, even SD cards go bad. I had one go and lost everything on it (lucky I backed it up a few weeks before) I use google plus to backup all my pics and box.com to backup my music and files.
Sorry for adding more to your question but I felt it was relevent.

This. The 50 dollar difference gets you 16+64 vs just 32gb. Unless somehow you NEED that 96gb total instead of 80.
I am on AT&T so 16 had to be enough I bought a 64gig Class 10/UHS-1 sandisk mobile card, I can get my whole collection of music on there and some device backups and roms as well.

I'm gonna be ordering the 32 GB and then getting either a 32GB or 64 GB sd card (anyone have recommendations on a good 64 GB one? class 10 of course). The only reason I'm shelling out the extra $50 for internal 16GB is apps. On my 32GB Tab (which has no sdcard slot) I use about 27 GB of stuff, and I don't keep much music or anything on the Tab, it's almost all (24 of 27 I believe offhand) apps. My current phone's 16 GB sdcard is almost always full (sometimes I flash by the seat of my pants w/o a nandroid because it won't fit... ), and I try to avoid the apps2sd stuff whenever possible for performance reasons, so I'm gonna max out the internal, since that can't be upgraded later. Who knows what size games will be here in another 6 months to a year On the G1 even the 4MB ish of Robo Defense was a commitment with limited size, I just want to future-proof as much as possible.
50gb dropbox+16gb internal+external....u need 32gb internal?
thanks for the useful info, looks like most people are satisfied with the 16GB model
I'm "satisfied" with the 16gb model, but honestly only bought it because I was too impatient to wait for the 32gb to come out. $50 more for double the internal space is not a big deal...I'm just really really impatient.
In any case, the 32gb class 10 micro SD card I am using should be plenty for the next year until I get another new phone.

SD Card for S4?

Just wondering what you guys would recommend for a good quality sd card for this phone? Also...how hard is it to put your stuff on the SD card rather than it going straight to internal storage??
I use a SanDisk 16 GB microSd card. It works fine, I've used it on my Xoom, BIONIC, and now my S4 and I got no complaints. Fits everything I want (I don't put any movies on it, just pictures and music). It isn't that difficult to move stuff to and from it, either go in an app on your phone and move stuff or plug it into you'r computer. Also, many apps, like the camera app, have settings that save pictures and videos straight to your external SD.
I think it's a must for an S4 user to have external storage, as TouchWiz/Bload take up almost 7GBs of internal storage.

I use the Sandisk 64GB MicroXDXC UHS-1 from Amazon. It's around $50 from Amazon. I've used it in my S3 as well. No issues besides every now and then it will say the card is damaged or give an error. A simple reboot fixes the issue. Best card for the monwy as I habe 2 of them. One in my S4 and one in my Tab 2 7.0. You should also try and find a USB reader for MicroSD cards to transfer your files as it's much faster than using the USB cable to transfer to the phone.

Would it be stupid to buy a class 10 microSD? can the phone even really utilize the speed capability of a class 10? I am looking at that card right now, maybe the 32GB version, I don't think I would ever come close to using 64GB haha

Mine is class 10 and works well. You get the faster data transfers by using a USB adapter to transfer large files and music collections. It runs pretty decent I think.

Sounds good. A 32GB should format to fat32 unlike the 64GB ome.

I just got the 64gb Sandisk and it works great but like the other guy said I got a error in the gym today and a reboot fixed it. I wanted a 32gb but the 2 local stores I went to were out.
i am using a 16gb sandisk class 10 card, and it works well. was under $20 at best buy and came with an adapter.
