Home screen voice prompt? ! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, if the media volume is up, regardless of if the phones on silent or not, zooming out to edit all home screens prompts a voice saying 'open home screen edit' .its really annoying and will get embarrassing in various situations! How do I turn this off?
Cheers

1. Disable "talkback" in the accessibility settings.
2. If this isn't enabled you probably have an app called "light flow" installed. There's a bug in ice cream sandwich which causes this error and you'll need to uninstall light flow until it's fixed.

Just to add, I had this problem with lights only when accessibility was checked for lightflow in settings. I also have it when tasker accessibility is checked. When they are both set to off, the voices stop.
Now to get rid of the ones in my head

-Does anyone know how to group apps? I'm starting to have problems finding an app I need because the screen is already full and there many apps that I rarely use and I wanted to group this apps into a separate folder.
-Another thing I tried was disabling the camera tone but with no luck. Does anyone know how to disable it?
Thanks,

For grouping apps I'm using Nova Prime launcher and you can create different launcher tabs for what ever you like.
I believe the camera tone issue is legally motivated, in some places it is illegal to de-activate the camera sound I believe so I think this is why you can't turn it off from the settings, if you flash a custom ROM there is usually an option to turn it off (with a warning) but on stock ROMS usually not.
Hope that helps,
R.
Which launcher do u use?

If its touchwiz, there os an option to create a folder in the homescreen and drawer, just long click choose add to home screen and select folder, for the drawer clock on the menu button when in drawer mode, it will give u an option ro hidde aps amd also create folders...for the camera sound, root it...

I'm using touchwiz. I found out the option that you can create a folder in the homescreen but I was hoping to group the apps in the menu and not just hide them.
I also rooted my phone yesterday but I couldn't find anything to disable the camera tone. I guess l'm gonna have to install another launcher and see if sorts out.
Anyaway thanks,

I haven't (yet) rooted my phone, but I can take "shutter sound" away. You need to tick your volume rocker to minimize system sounds to silent. Then you can take pictures without shutter tone. Just remember put vol back up after.

Sorry what do you mean whith "volume rocker"? If you are refering to the volume key that didn't work out for me, I even turned off every sound in the settings=>sound but even that didn't work out .

Hmm maybe there really are localisation differences. Vol-key brings camera sounds off atleast in my device.

Widgets flickering when pressing home

Anyone havibg this annoying issue? U press home and the weather or any other widget u have on home disappear and comes back in a second. This when u press home.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Yes this is because of RAM issue.. Available RAM decreases due to background applications running.
This can be oversome by disabling S voice form it settings and turning off all its services from menu>settings>apps
Then restart tge phone, it wjuld be fibe.
If still facing issues, use the nova launcher..

I have s voice from the home button turned off, but how do you totally disable it to free up the ram. My time and weather widgets are always refreshing (disappear and then re appear) constantly.
How and which services do you disable?
i have the same issue
me too.
please help, but without root or any kind of stock modification

[Q] JB standby home button closes app.

Hi,
I seem to have this annoying problem. Lets say I am reading an article in some app. Now my phone goes on standby after 1 minute of inactivity. In ICS, I could press the home button and get back to the app I was on. In JB pressing the home button closes the app and brings me back to home screen. Is there a way to disable that?
Yes there is. Go to settings, than developer settings, scroll down to bottom and uncheck "Destroy any activity soon as user leaves is"
Also, check background process limit. If it is set to 0 then select "Standard Limit"

My developer options were off. And none of that was checked anyways. The annoyance started when I updated to JB.
Than really i cant help you, because i dont have that problem. I also have jelly bean installed.

Oh well thanks. Hopefully someone can figure out a way to solve this problem.
Have exactly the same problem. Before Jelly Bean this didn't happen.
I guess I'll just have to get used to waking it up with the power button instead until there's a fix.
Btw I'm running stock 4.1.1.

The problem is that the lock screen has not yet activated, therefore commands are passed to the current app running. You need to use the power button to turn on the screen. Else, search thru the settings for where to change the lock screen to lock immediately the screen the screen goes off. This might help.

yes it helps.you must set the lock screen and it works.but is there any way without look screen to ?
This problem seems to be affecting those who turned off S-Voice
Just go into its setting and enable it to activate via double pressing home button. The problem then goes away in JB.
yes it works ! i have only installed s-voice apk and thats it !

Home button changed

After f***** jb came onto my phone the home button now exits my app after coming from turned off screen. Hate it! I dont want to enable s-voice because it makes the home button lag... Is there any other way to restore home button behaviour to ICS?

Use the power button instead.
Another option is to disable S-Voice.

Upgrade to a newer JB build. That problem's been fixed for a few weeks, ever since LJ1 or LJ2.

I disagree. I have LJ4 and I have that problem. The only solution I found was to start using the power button instead.
I have this problem also. I am running liquidsmooth rc 7. And i have this also on other roms

Since JB update I have no lag on home button even with S-Voice double tap enabled. Also, the apps are not closing when I wake up the phone with home, only if I have s-voice disabled.

main problem is with no lock screen, this results in the phone return to the home screen when unlocked with home.
if you use a lock it will load that, then the last app, unless you press home just as the screen dims.

I have this also. As you say, with s voice double tap enabled, it doesn't happen.
With nova or apex and no program running it pulls up the screen preview. Extremly annoying.

If you install a custom stock-based ROM with s-voice removed (an option in several ROMs with the Aroma installer), the home button issue does not occur.
I have found that it only works with s voice enabled too.I have found no other way on stock
Screen off automatically ------> before 5 seconds, press home button = app exits and shows your home. It's because your phone locks after 5 seconds after your screen automatically turns off. When it locks after 5 seconds, it will show your lock screen.
My advice for you: stop posting useless threads, post in the firmware's thread. Crying here won't solve and won't make anyone fix it.
I have lock, but I have apps which turns the screen off without locking it. When I press home button the screen is turning instantly and no screen lock. I'm very happy with the Jelly Bean update.

Camera Brightness

Hi guys, I got this phone yesterday and I'm freaking loving it. The first Android phone that I can actually compare to my iPhone 5. I was wondering is there any way to lower down the brightness when your taking a picture? For some odd reason every time I go into the camera app the brightness goes all the way up.

Pretty sure that's a built in "feature" that allows your viewfinder to be as accurate as possible under all lighting conditions.
If you really can't stand it, you can give Tasker a shot. I have Tasker do this for Gallery/other camera apps so that videos and pictures are more pleasing to view.
Can you elaborate more on the Tasker app? I've never used that.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
It's an app that lets you set certain conditions and when those conditions are met it will cause something else to happen that you have preset.

So I can set the brightness leven for when I open the camera app y doesn't go all the way up?

I don't know that specifically I'm just giving you a brief overview of what gasket does. It's a free app though, I think.

It's not a free app. You can get it on the play store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
If you decide to get it, it's a very powerful tool, especially for non-rooted users. You can program anything to basically do anything. For me, I have it turn down the brightness whenever it senses that the camera is launched.

1. Hit the plus button on the bottom right
2. Hit "Application"
3. Select "Camera" from the list of applications and hit back
4. Hit "New Task"
5. Enter a task name or just hit the check mark if you don't want to name it
6. Hit the plus on the bottom
7. Hit "Display"
8. Hit "Auto Brightness"
9. Under "Set", select "Off" and hit back
10. Hit the plus on the bottom again
11. Hit "Display" again
12. Hit "Display Brightness"
13. Drag the slider to the level you want and hit back
14. Hit back again
That should be it. If you want it to turn auto brightness back on after you exit camera, just press and hold the green arrow, select "add exit task" and just do the same thing (go into display>auto brightness>on)
Weird...it didn't work for me. There must be an overriding feature in the camera code that prevents this. Let me play around with it some more.
--edit-- Anyone else got a clue? Any sort of tasker script I write, the camera will flicker for a bit, but the app will inevitably override the settings tasker applies.
Yeah just tried and like you said it doesn't work
