HTC EVO 4G LTE: How to get track and album art information on my car's display: Root? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So I've been having this problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702047 and after posting in give different forums I ve given up.
At this point, Im simply looking for a way to get my album art and track information on my car's display, whether it requires root, bluetooth, USB, no bluetooth, whatever. I just need a way to get it done.
Here is what I thought of:
Option 1:
The linux bluetooth stack for android (Bluez) now supports AVRCP 1.3 but my EVO LTE still does not..there is something wrong with that picture. How do I make this happen? I have a Prius with a head unit that supports AVRCP 1.3 and i need to see my track data on my head units screen. I know one solution is switching to Cyanogen Mod which has already updated to AVRCP 1.3, but is there a way to simply upgrade the bluetooth stack without rooting and going to Cyanogen?
Or if I must root, exactly what ROM should I use other than Cyanogen? Isnt there any sense based ROMs that have the added ability of AVRCP 1.3?
Option 2: My car, in a way, does work with Media Sync USB option. Like I explained in the thread linked above, it detects the songs but completely unorganized, and as of recently, it doesnt detect them at all. I keep getting this media file titled "join hangout" and "facebook pop" which are 3 second files each. It seems like they belong to some app or function in my phone. Why does my car keep finding that? Isnt there a way to trick it into finding the songs?
Im getting pretty desperate at this point. I ve researched extensively for weeks how to manipulate MTP metadata, upgrade bluetooth stacks, manipulate disk drive option on EVO LTE, but I ve found nothing. At all. Please help me. Id truly appreciate it.

Im usually not the type to bump, but I ve been posting in 4 to 5 different forums and out of all of them. this is the one forum where I am hoping for the most creative, knowledgeable answer..since you know, developer's forum and all. Hoopefully someone can chime in. I didnt realize how quickly threads got pushed to the second page, very active forum.

I think CM will be your only option. As I understand it, HTC locked down the bluetooth in sense which makes it impossible (or very difficult) for AVRCP 1.3 to be be ported to a sense rom.

So, I was told CM is not yet ready for EVO LTE. Is this true? Also, do you know if rooting voids best buy's black tie thing?

It doesnt have an official build, and there are still some issues, but it looks close to being a daily driver. If you check out the thread, you can find out specifically whats still not working. And you can always unroot and go back to stock with the ruu for bb.

if your going to use the media sync portion do you have your music in folders per artist or just all thrown in one folder, try separating them by artist and album, most apps read them that way

My music is automatically organized by itunes, which does it as such:
Music => Band Name => Album name(s) => Songs.

ok I have a HTC Hero locked to Orange (UK) and wondering what the must have apps and widgets are, what I can do to improve it etc. If you guys could share your vast knowledge that would be great.
Also please bear in mind I am fairly techy least people tell me but sometimes looking at others threads here I get lost quite easily.

Woah,... Where on earth to begin?......
1st question to ask yourself,... Are you happy to keep it Orange branded?.... Or do you want to install a custom ROM?.... Bear in mind, some ROMS have little tweaks added for better performance and stability, some are experimental, and have bugs that that need a little ironing out, but you could swap and change as many times as you want to test and find one best for you.
BUT BE WARNED,... Changing your ROM will in theory invalidate your warranty,... but you can always flash back to an Orange ROM should you need to send it for repair.
So its up to you?... This is the guide I followed to install a custom ROM,... Check it out,.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
Second,... I'd update the radio to the latest one,... The radio is something to do with how well network, wifi, gps etc work,... I updated mine and saw a big difference in network reception.
,..... Now we can start talking about apps,... All I can do here is give my recommendations,....
Apps
TuneWiki - Can show lyrics for music on your phone or even whilst streaming LastFM.
Spareparts - Extra 'settings' options not available as standard. i.e... Transition animations, Font size, Haptic feedback. Also shows Battery & App statistics.
Shazam - No explanation needed.
Opera Mini - " ".
Movies (by Flixter) - Local movie show times + cinema and DVD reviews (?).
Co-Pilot Live - Satnav.
Astro - File manager.
ACV aka Droid Comic Viewer - Self explanatory.
Audio Manager - To set volume levels for Alarm, Media Player, Alerts, Ringer, System and Calls,.. All in one easy place,... Can then add as a widget to one of your homescreens.
Games
WaveBlazer - Was addicted to this on my 5800, couldn't resist getting it again.
Armagedon Squadron - As above
MotoXMania - I think this is from iPhone, get the moto x'er from one side of course to the other by tilting phone to control biker's weight distribution.
SpeedForge 3d - 3d racing game with mines and rockets set in future, quite difficult (for me) but still fun.
Tetris - Classic!!
Solitaire - Always fun.
PapaStack - Puzzle game, have to stack up all given blocks and make them stand for 10seconds before moving on to the next level.
ThrottleCopter - Based on old flash game "copter". Click button to control throttle on helicopter to get it though the course. The most addictive game so far.
Replica Island - Fun platform game.
EDIT,... Found another even more addictive game now,...
Sketch Online - Online Pictionary,... I cant stop playing it, Minimum an hour every day!
Hope some of that helps pal.
Peace.

Not a radio like FM radio,... I think radio refers to anything that sends or transmits,. i.e The WiFi, GPS, actual network connection. So updating the 'radio' will make those better, and sometimes may increase battery life as well.

Media Hub Opens but won't PLAY rented or bought films/tv shows?

Hey everyone-
I don't believe this question has been posted before, I did do a quick search before posting so don't shoot me, lol. Anyway, I downloaded the APK for the media hub from the JI2 update, and I currently have Eugene373's daily driver rom installed. The previews work and everything, but when I rented a movie, the Blues Brothers, and I try to play it I get an error message saying: "Your device does not support the requested file format." If anyone can help me I'd be much ablidged, thanks.

I RENTED a movie so I believe it works differently. I know if you buy a movie it can few viewed offline so maybe it works differently.
Ok so this is really weird, I opened the video through the stock video player and It showed the time length of the movie but not video or audio
do you have voodoo kernel installed? I read in the voodoo thread that some videos wouldn't play on voodoo kernel wheras they would on stock kernels.
I installed the whole JI2 and the hub player worked fine, bought Iran Man and watched the whole thing. Did take around an hour or two download. Try playing while connected to WI-Fi I kind of remember that you need to do that for the first minute or so. Otherwise Sorry
Where are these files stored? Is there a specific folder?
I'm having the same problem. Maybe its because its not made for the vibrant. I've tried other video players frome the app store and got nothing. They all want to play off the sd card and the movie is only on the media hub app.

Though this is merely an educated guess (as really I have no clue, and no desire to pay for DRM-ware just to check), but it's likely there are at least a few system integrity checks built into the playback capabilities of video downloaded via MediaHub in an attempt to thwart hacks.
Remember, Samsung has a vested self interest in making MediaHub a closed system, and this may include their app doing enough integrity checks to say "no way Jose" when running this app on a non-standard rom. Granted, I have no way of knowing for certain if this is indeed the case, but it wouldn't suprise me if it was.
This is generally how DRM laden systems work.

[Q] Song from CD (Music) how to set as Ringtone?

Hello,
I have a New AT&T SGS-2. I am trying to set a Song or track from a CD that I have on my SD Card. I migrated from a Atrix and on the Atrix it allowed you to Touch Hold the Track or Song and then asked if you wanted to set it as a default ring tone. Obviouslly it wont allow you to do that. I spent some time on Chat with Samsung and didnt get anywhere-
It works great with individual Contacts, it allows you to go straight to "MyFiles" and pick the song without a Problem. But its a pain with Ringtones.
Also How do you add Notification Sounds as well, for instance, I have several Sounds from Jeff Dunham's Achmed, Or some "Gong Sounds" sounds from Blackberry, which I like using for Email or SMS- Can you add additional sounds to Notifications?
Would really appreciate some help. The Display is Drop Dead Gorgeous, Just suffering from Atrix Toxicity at this point.
Thank you in advance
The simple answer, without going into too much technical detail is as follows:
* rip the desired track from the CD to an MP3 file
* [optional] edit the MP3 so that you have the bit you want as a ringtone
* place the [edited] MP3 on your device under /sdcard/ringtones
* select the ringtone from the regular Settings interface
Thank you for the reply.... I want to play the Whole track, not "Just" make it into a ringtone. I got a tweet from a friend out west. He has the International Version and has no problem doing so. He said AT&T blocked it, thats why I cant do it. With the International one you touch hold the music track, it asks if you want to assign it as a default ring tone and Voila. AT&T's Days are numbered with me. I am really PO'd but good because of all the issues they have caused me.
I hope someone with the AT&T version will figure this out and let me know how to do it.
Thank you1
Unfortunately it seems a bit hopeless for setting music as ringtone. Att strikes again. I would suggest getting astro file browser and copying your music file to the folder specified above. Unless a Dev somehow releases a patch for the stock Tom our best bet is to wait for a custom rom. There was an app called ringdroid. Ill post back with my results

Would you try something for me, I just got off the phone with Samsung, Main screen go to Apps, My Files, create a folder called Ringtone Downloads.... Go to your Music CD pick a track, Copy it and move it into the My Files Folder you created.
You should be able to touch hold or select it as a ringtone. Let me know if it works!
What a pisser, it works perfect on the Sprint Version as well, (the way it should) Touch and Hold!
Ringdroid works great, I've maid some long ringtones with ringdroid 1+ minute long, not quite whole song, but I think you can, it would be worth tyring.

@ItsaRaid,
I tried your suggestion and still nothing. I would use ringdroid. It takes the music you have in your phone and lets you pick any song. I just tried it and its a much more elegant(only) solution. You mentioned you want the whole song as a ringtone. I don't understand why since your phone will only ring for about 6 times. But I just tried it with a 2:00 minute song and just selected all and hit save.. then it asked me if i wanted to save it as a ringtone, alarm or notification. i hit ringtone and it added it to the list of default system ringtones. Hope this helps and while yes I agree its a load of crock what att did, ringdroid appeases my anger. cheers!

Eddies92,
Im so pissed off at AT&T right now. Guess what? (A) Its not a problem on the International or Sprint Version of the SGS2. (B) Contacts... It allowed me access to the music on my SD card, and it even allowed me to pick the track, but there is a "Cap" on the size...300kb only, that is such a load of manure, its absolutely unreal.
On Email, your screwed as well, and you cant add notification sounds.
Why would Samsung allow AT&T to do that to their Premium Flagship Android Device? The Samsung Galaxy AT&T Ladies in the Night S-2
The Suggestion was from Tier 2 technical at Samsung "Raoul". He needs to learn how to make Hummus, maybe then he will be better helping with Smartphones!

So now the question becomes.....Will Samsung release ICS for the AT&T SGS2? and if so, Will ICS alleviate the problem. I just got off a 2 hour phone call with a Level 3 Senior Manager at Samsung, He was shocked as well. The International, Sprint and T-Mobile SGS2's all are "Unrestricted" Only the AT&T version has this problem. They all play Music Tracks from The SD Card that has been assigned Default Ring tone, with No restrictions added, and as well Contacts, there is no 300kb Limit assigned, Only AT&T has restrictions,of this nature, No one else.
I hope one of the developers reads this, and can give me a glimpse of Sunshine.
By The Way, if the Phone was Rooted, would that eliminate my problem?
On the spec sheet, AT&T should have added a notice that they have restricted Playback of Music Materials used as ringtones, sounds or speciific Ringtones used for individual contacts. And, that you are not permitted to add Notification sounds at all.
[QUOTEBy The Way, if the Phone was Rooted, would that eliminate my problem?[/QUOTE]
No it will not.. my phone is rooted. Being rooted doesnt not add any functionality outside of having "administrator privileges"
I spoke with a Senior Samsung Engineer today out of Richardson Texas.... "AT&T Pays for the phone, therefore we have to do what they want, regardless" They were shocked, at the find, the initial comment they made was is,
" All Samsung Phones can do that, you should have no problem using a music track on the SGS-2 for a ringtone sound." Unless of course it is the AT&T Version.
There is a 300kb Cap on the size of the file as well. For Both Music Tracks and Contact Ringtone Assignment for Contacts.
There are some other things as well. Anyone try email maintenance on the phone.? What a nightmare, and it also doesnt work correctly, No "Select All" ect, ect ect. I tried empty the Trash, what a joke. Only on the "Rethink Possible" What a bunch of Scoundrels AT&T is, they ruined a gorgeous phone.
Only on the "Rethink Possible" Maybe they should Re-Think Possible Mr. De La Vega as President of AT&T Mobility and let him Clean toilets instead, along with the people responsible for doing this to the SGS-2.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but as far as email management, both gmail an the "email" app have always pretty much been the way they are. Its really not a big deal. Not trying to be disrespectful but if you keep knitpicking at every phone you have then you will never be happy. Ive never had an iphone but you may be happier with that. I just flashed cyanogen mod and youll be pleased to know that in cm 7 the set as ringtone option is back. CM7 is very stock (google) experience. I think CM7 is great but so far I havent really seen much improvement over the stock UI but like I said it is my preference and mod props to CM7 makers its legit. =)
Eddies 92,
First thank you for your help, I appreciate ALL your comments and guidance. Have you had the Atrix? I have for the past 7 months. Email is awesome, delete a email, theres a undo button, go to empty the trash, its as easy as pie and simple and quick. The SGS-2, I went to dump trash, I had to individually "X" each box and then try to delete them. I accidentally wound up in the in box, and dumped some email, I moved them back to the In Box, and they dissapeared. Im NOT Knitpicking. Email Maintenance was a piece of cake on the Atrix, on the GSG2 it seems "Old Style", and prehistoric in comparison.
What would it take to make me happy? Fix the Music Track Issues, Ringtones and Notifications and make the Email work more like how it does on Atrix... I would be TICKELED PINK! " I-Phone? YUck, how about Nexus Prime LTE
Now, lets get down to Business....
"I just flashed cyanogen mod and youll be pleased to know that in cm 7 the set as ringtone option is back" I have no experience with this, Im not sure what it is, and I wish you lived in Columbus Ohio, cause I would be knocking on your door asking you to help me do it. Can you explaain a little better also the Set Ringtone is back?
never used the atrix. Honestly the email doesnt bug me because i check them as soon as I get them but then again I dont have a ton of emails coming in at once. just 4 or 5 a day. To put it more simply. Android is composed of two things.. the kernel and the rom. the kernel is the operating system. the guts of it all. The rom is what makes it easy to use.. the icons and what not. Cyanogen Mod has been the gold standard in roms for a number of phones.. Understand that the "nexus" series are loved because they provide a pure google experience with no carrier or manufacturer modifications. Cyanogenmod (CM) brings gingerbread v 2.3.7 which is the latest android version shy of Ice cream sandwhich. Normally CM makes phones run like a dream because the stock rom was poorly built. I have not found this to be the case with the galaxy s II. I have not noticed any increase in speed and as far as battery life goes I cant comment because I just flashed it this evening. The stock rom is very good in my opinion. I may stay with cyanogenmod simply because I love the openness and speedy updates and its my way of sticking it to the man, I have absolutely no AT&T restrictions or additions with cyanogenmod. hope this clears things up and if youre intersted there are tutorials in the dev section of the GSII. I found that the tutorial on the CM wiki is much more easy to understand for a first time flasher like your self.
No AT&T restrictions, that means I can play Music Tracks like Ringtones or I can assign Tracks to play with specific Contacts?
The Email on the Atrix was awesome, easy to use, if you accidentally dumped a email, there was the "Undo" button in the Lower Right.
Anyone Near me in Columbus Ohio that could help me do the CM7? Again thanks for the guidance.
By the way, before I typed this I went to my email, settings and notifications ringtones, it let me go into the external SD Card, and The CD Music Tracks were there, I clicked the right hand Dot on one tracked and it lit up green.! Can that be possible? I got chicken, so I returned the email to the ring tone that was previouslly set. Ha, Youve taught me alot already, but you know what, I dont quit so easy, Im a Believer, Fighter and Survivor.
Thank you for the new friendship
-Larry
green dot? sounds like a way to select things on the atrix. never seen an android phone like that. dont chicken out whats the worst that can happen? and to your questions yes you can go to your music player, bring up the options and set as ringtone. Honestly, as great as cyanogen mod is, I'm going back to the stock rom or maybe try another. I was just not wowed by it. you may like it though. its just preference. It needs a tiny bit of work and I am not faulting the devs for this as it was just released.
Glad to be of assistance. i am not new to android and understand things fairly well but I am not a dev by any stretch of the imagination. Had androidsince v 1.5. I am new to the forum and really like the community and am here to stay so see you around larry. cheers
Ha,
your really cool! Let me clarify, I went to the settings in my email... it allowed me to navigate to My files, actually gave me 3 choices, I went to my files, and ext SD Card, and then to one of the CD's I have on the SD Card. I went to the same track I have been trying to get to work. To the right there is a Dot with a empty taget insidet, I clicked on it and it turned green.. Chicken Licken said the sky is falling....
I closed out of everything, put the phone in its Desktop Cradel, on my desk and fired a test email from my PC. It Worked.! I am very confused from this all, why would it work for email (RoadRunner) not elsewhere?
Let me also clarify the email complaint. The User Interface (software?) on the Atrix was wonderful, if you made a mistake to the right lower, there is a tab, undo. Deleting was marvelous, up to date very upbeat everything. The SGS2 however is almost all Manual, its almost Prehistoric. Deletes are manually done, eack email has a box, you have to select the one by one, there is no Select All, and its not easy to delete or clean out trash. The UI on gmail, is much nicer, same for Yahoo. Dont understand why there was such a big difference. on Roadrunner Email between the Atrix and SGS2.
Last Comment. My email Notifications are hit and Miss, they always dont work correctly, or I dont understand how its supposed to work... Ill get email, sometimes the Sound will go off, sometimes the number will show on the email icon... "Sometimes" is a good way to state that. any ideas? Or sometimes I will open the SGS2 and there is a notification after I slide the Bar down, but nothing showing on the Email Icon and no sound warning.
Cheers! God save the Queen

All i can say is im sorry you dont like the S II as much as far as the email,, it was skinned by motorola. S II is closer to stock. Motorola skins the hell out of everything. Im a bit confused, you have an atrix an SGS SII? ive had nothing but good luck with this phone. It could be your kernel is messed up somehow. Ive seen reports of this happening to people but its kinda rare. I would go to settings>privacy> factory reset and delete "usb storage" make sure you have all your important stuff backed up. Hope that will solve your problem. I would highly suggest you look into modding as i think you will be happier with cyanogenmod. Email is its own program. the ringtone limitation was placed from app to app. the email just happened to have ringtone options. most apps are made with the idea that they will use the global (systemwide)notification ringtone. The music app is not stock so it was modded at atts request im guessing. Theres other music apps in the market that probably restore the option youre looking for. I heard doubletwist lets you set as ringtone. sorry i cannot offer anymore insight.
Eddies92,
You got me thinking, I called up Toni Soprano, I told him my trouble, (He took over for the Godfather). I had to Kissa his Big Ring. Gave him a peck on both cheeks as well.
Toni Soprano says like this. We gonna put De la Vega back in Morroco, teach him how to make Hummus..
In the Meantime, I thank you for making me think. You have to Try Mixzing Media Player from the Market. It is absolutely a Italian Stallion. I can now assign any Music Track I want as a RingTone, better yet, Jeff DunHamm and Achmed the Terrorist, "Silence I Kill you"!!! It is abosolutely Awesome. I got so excited Im still jumping up and down, teested it my self. Guess what else, its got a full fledge Audio Mixer 10 Channel, and the Music sounds so much better off it, including the Ringtones.
So..... Take your Music Player AT&T and shove it up your rear end!
PS. The Mail app. I got the skinny on it. The Atrix app, is a Motorola Mail Client proprietary App, It was gleaned and streamlined by Motorola. I posted in the Forum and one of the Developers aswered me. They dont know if the Atrix2 has the same thing, but he recommended K-9 Woof Woof.!
Im almost home, now all I have to do is get my notifications to show up properly, its NOT counting email, and the sound always doesnt go off properly.
Your right, the SGS2 is a gorgeous phone. Scrolling, Flicking, Web, Internet all very fast, for the most part no lag. I hear there is a Update out already, 3rd Party, and the real thing is pending De La Vega to get off the can.
Yeah. I agree with not faulting the phone. Samsung has made a great product and the ones crippling it (in a sense) are AT&T the former does not bug me in the slightest. If you're not happy with their practices, I suggest you jump ship to perhaps sprint or t mobile. I had sprint and loved it for the first year I had it. Their data speeds (3g) have gone down the shi***r. Ive read that on the east coast they're pretty good which is what their known for. I lived in California and recently moved to New Mexico. Coverage for them was horrible. I wouldnt get service in half of my town, literally. it would jump from no service to 1 bar. Second my data speeds were non existent. I swear to you on my grave that I was getting 50kbps on a good day. Average 35kbps. This was ridiculous. Tmobile doesn't have 3g in my town and ive heard horror stories about them. Verizon reigns in my region but they were about 15% more expensive than my current plan at ATT and have a much better value. Supposedly verizon is going to roll out their lte service where I live which intrigued me a bit but I thought to myself.. why do i need all that speed? With att i get 1.5mbps which is more than enough for anyone. People forget, its a phone not a laptop. at 1.5mbps I am more than capable of downloading everything and anything I want. so I must say im a happy camper getting 1.5mbps(3g) speeds coming from 35 mpbs at supposed (3g) on sprint. ps on att, where my parents live in a "4g" area I clock at 3.5mbps =D good enough for me. besides true lte 4g likes to drain batteries quicker.
Im glad you found a music player to your liking. I personally love the stock music player because of the controls on the lock screen and notification bar and if you look youll find the stock player also has a customizable equalizer.

፨ FAQs ፨
Q: How do I root and/or unlock my bootloader?
A: bigdaddy619 has a guide that will take you from stock to having an unlocked bootloader, custom recovery and root access. His guide is located here.
Q: Is there a dev S-OFF method?
A: There are currently three methods to obtain S-OFF. One is unlimited.IO's method, DirtyRacun , the other one is Facepalm by jcase and beaups. If you are running 3.16.651.3 use Moonshine by fuses, beaups, and hyuh. Finally, if you're on 3.17.651.4 use rumrunner by beaups and fuses. Thanks to bigdaddy619 for informing me about Moonshine and rumrunner.
Q: I ran HTCDev unlock/S-OFF but now when I boot I get a disclaimer in red letters by HTC, can I get rid of it?
A: Indeed. regaw_leinad made a zip to run through your Bootloader that gets rid of the red disclaimer text. Check out his thread here.
Q: I'm rooted, can I still take OTA updates?
A: While it will not cause harm to your device you will lose root and all apps dependant on it will cease to function. It is recommended to wait until until a stock rooted version that can be flashed through recovery becomes available.
Q: I'm new to Android and I'm overwhelmed with all these terms, what an Hboot? What's a recovery or AOSP or a Nandroid? I'm completely lost. Help!
A: Relax, don't panic. om4 has you covered. He made a thread covering everything you need to know. Find it here.
Q: Will unlocking/rooting void my warranty?
A: Rooting and unlocking your bootloader is considered tampering your phone and can void your warranty. That being said, rooting is completely reversible and undetectable once done. If you unlock through HTC's unlocker it will void PARTS of your warranty with HTC and add a 'unlocked' tag to your bootloader.
Q: Is there a way to make it appear as though I never unlocked my bootloader?
A: If you are S-OFF, then regaw_leinad wrote a guide located here that will give you detailed instructions to get your phone back to S-ON and revert the ***LOCKED*** flag in the bootloader.
Q: I see guides telling me to do a battery pull or my phone is stuck. Do I have to open up my phone to battery pull? Thanks to poison1916.
A: Of course not. Simply press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. You will see the capacitive buttons flash and then your phone will restart as if you did a battery pull on devices with a removable battery.
Q: What is the difference between root, S-OFF and an unlocked bootloader?
A: regaw_leinad made an in depth post here. If you have time, read it -- you will learn a lot. Otherwise here's the summed up version:
S-OFF allows complete control over your device, it will grant you access to all NAND protected partitions on your device.
Unlocked Bootloader (through the HTCDev unlock) is a "lite" version of S-OFF, it will allow you to flash a recovery and through it, a custom ROM. Zips that are attempted to be flashed through the bootloader will still need to come from HTC. UPDATE: Newer Hboot versions limit what can be done through the bootloader, please exercise caution when updating your Hboot version.
Root is not related to the NAND partitions at all, instead it grants you complete control over the OS (Android) itself. It will let you write and edit any file you wish. This lets you run apps like Titanium Backup and Adblock that need to either access or edit system files.
Q: Will all kernels work with all ROMs?
A: No. Sense-based kernels will only work with Sense based ROMs and non-Sense (Cyanogenmod, AOKP, etc.) will only work with non-Sense kernels. It is also important to note that kernels built for one version of Android will usually not work on others. Read the OP of the kernel you wish to flash to make sure it is compatible with your ROM.
Q: Why is multitasking so aggressive? My apps are being killed off quickly.
A: HTC has stated that this is working as they intended (source). Most ROMs have addressed this issue and you should receive better multitasking while running them. For default Android multitasking, consider using a non-Sense ROM like CyanogenMOD or AOKP.
Q: My data connection is slow or it disconnects and roams randomly, any fix?
A: This doesn't have one concrete answer since there are multiple reasons why data connections are acting up. Sprint could be doing maintenance to a tower near you, call them and verify. It is also possible that the connection at your location simply is not good, there is nothing that can be done in this situation. If you know that your connection should be better or your phone is randomly acting up a solution is to re provision your phone. You can go to a Sprint store and ask a tech to do it for you or follow my instructions here. Failing all that, your phone could have a hardware problem.
Q: My proximity sensor is not acting normally, is my unit defective?
A: First of all, make sure that your screen protector does not cover up your sensor. If that is not your issue you can do a proximity sensor test by launching your dialer and typing *#*#3424#*#* this will launch HTC's test menu and you can test your proximity sensor there to determine if it's working properly. Some ROMs remove the test menu, if using the dialer code does not work, flash a stock ROM.
Q: Google Wallet say my device is not supported, why?
A: This is a normal message that shows if you are rooted. wwjoshdew made a post and video here demonstrating Wallet working despite the unsupported message. It is safe to ignore.
Q: Wallet tells me my secure element is not responding, how do I fix this?
A: There is no known fix except to get a new device. Reports from other phones that run Wallet and ran across this error (HTC One X, Galaxy Nexus, etc.) say that the only way to have Wallet functionality again is to get a new device. I have a thread started here that will give more information as well as educate you on what not to do with your replacement device. UPDATE: While there is nothing that can be done for phones with a broken secure element, this should no longer occur with the newer version of Wallet.
Q: If my secure element is not working, can I still use NFC?
A: Yes. If you are okay with not using Wallet then there is no need to replace your device as stated above. A secure element error will only bar you from using secure apps (only Wallet at the moment) but NFC is still fully functional.
Q: Does a 64GB micro SD card work on our phones?
A: Yes. There are a couple of users in this thread confirming that it works.
Q: Where can I find missing apps from HTC like Flashlight and Notes?
A: Flashlight can be found in the HTC hub. If you no longer have the HTC hub app, downsouthballa posted it here. The notes app cannot be found in the Hub but puertoblack2003 ported it over and can be found on his thread.
Q: How can I change what app opens certain links/actions?
A: Due to a patent dispute by Apple, HTC has changed the way certain links are handled, basic apps like SMS and browser can be selected by going to settings> app associations and selecting the default app. Most ROMs have restored original functionality, however if you are still running stock steal25 made a mod located here.
Q: How can I change which shortcuts show on the default lockscreen?
A: The default HTC lockscreen will show the icons that are placed on the default launcher's dock. Simply put the apps you want there and it will reflect on your lockscreen.
Q: Why are my pictures smaller than 8MP?
A: This is done by default with the camera to 'fit' the pictures you take to your screen without having you zoom in. It crops the top and bottom part of your photos to make them widescreen instead of the default 4:3 ratio. To fix this simply launch your camera app and touch the settings icon> Camera options> Widescreen (untick).
Q: Why are my pictures saved to the internal phone storage and how can I force it to save to the SD card?
A: When you first launched your camera app (assuming you had an SD card in) it should have asked you if you wanted to save to the SD card. Either way, the problem is easily fixed within the camera settings or by going to Settings> Storage> App storage locations and choosing Storage card for each option.
Q: What's with the black bar with three dots on certain apps?
A: That is the menu button, since HTC did not add a hardware button Android automatically fixes the issue by placing an onscreen button. This shouldn't show up on apps that are updated for ICS, however. If you have an unlocked bootloader runandhide05 made a mod that remaps your hardware keys and gets rid of the on screen bar. Check out his thread here. Some ROMs already have a way to remap hardware keys, in that case this mod is not needed.
Q: Why can't I set different volume levels for ringtones and notifications?
A: This is not a device issue, rather an OS issue. ICS "links" the notification and ringtone volumes into one. Some people have found that using Volume Control + from the Play Store fixes the problem (but you do have to set the volumes within the app).
Q: Is it possible to charge my device while using the kickstand?
A: Yes the kickstand can support the phone's weight on either orientation. Take a look at this image.
Q: I can't send pictures using Android Beam, I touch both phones together and it makes the 'link' sound and vibrates but then nothing happens, is something wrong?
A: NFC is not intended for large amounts of data to transfer through it. It would take too long (about 2.5 minutes for an 8MB picture). It's only meant for text transfer which in turn can prompt the phone to do other things such as sharing contact cards, webpage links, market apps and such. UPDATE: The Jellybean update has expanded on this functionality, it now allows you to initiate a picture/video transfer if you tap two devices together. To get around the above issue when Beam detects that you want to send over a picture/video it will automatically turn on bluetooth, pair the devices, send the data and turn off bluetooth.
Q: How do I take a screenshot?
A: Hold down the power button and press the home button on the stock ROM. Some ROMs might change this, consult with your ROM's dev.
Q: I'm getting horrible battery life and my phone will not go into deep sleep while I'm on Wi-Fi?
A: This problem is easily corrected by disabling "Best Wi-Fi Performance" under Wi-Fi settings.
Q: Certain games/apps that require multi touch will not work correctly. Is our phone capable of multitouch?
A: Yes our phone is capable of detecting multiple screen touches. By default the phone ships with a setting that only detects 2 inputs for apps and 3 for sense. Go into Settings> Display and turn HTC Gestures off. I made a video demonstrating what happens with the setting on and off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w38TwrLu90w
Q: I did the above fix but I am still having multitouch issues at times, did I do something wrong?
A: If you have a third party lockscreen, such as Widgetlocker or Go Locker, some people have reported issues with multitouch. You have to enable "Retain System Keyguard" Widgetlocker has this setting under Advanced. Once you apply both fixes install a multitouch test app from the market and test your phone. It should be able to handle ten points simultaneously.
Q: Is there a way to move application data (such as huge game files) to the SD Card instead of the phone storage?
A: The best way to do this is to swap the mount point between your internal storage and your SD card. This tricks the phone into thinking that your SD card is the storage that came with the phone and will automatically store everything there. For Sense you can download a flashable zip on maxdamage2122's thread. If you are running CM10 then check out this other thread by maxdamage2122.
Q: What's the best ROM for me? I want a mod that does X, Y, or Z where can I find it?
A: djR3Z keeps a great updated list of all the different resources for our phones. His thread is located here.
Q: NFC doesn't work when my screen is off or locked, is it broken?
A: By default NFC will not work when your screen is turn off or your phone is locked. However, there is a mod by StephanSch which lets you use NFC with the screen off or on your lockscreen (or both) his thread is here.
Q: Why does my camera open slower when I use the physical camera button?
A: It is unknown exactly why, but speculation seems to be that adding a delay to launching the app from the hardware button will prevent the camera from turning on accidentally in your pocket and wasting battery. If you still want to take quick pictures without unlocking your phone, set a camera shortcut on your lockscreen (also works on third party ones like Widgetlocker) and then simply 'unlock' to the app, it will instantly launch the camera.
Q: What is NFC? What can I do with it?
A: NFC stands for near field communications and it allows our devices to communicate with other devices and objects through a radio frequency. This could mean anything from pairing two devices together, transferring small amounts of data or executing a task or event. For example you can use NFC tags to toggle wi fi on or off when you are home. Check out this thread to see what apps to use and where to purchase tags.
Q: Does our phone have a RGB LED?
A: No. HTC is still only providing their newer phones with a green/amber LED. So applications that let you customize the 'color' of the LED won't fully work as blue is missing which is a primary color (for additive combinations, like light) required to make all other colors.
Q: Can we pair Wii motes or other bluetooth controllers?
A: Yes. The stock ROM works out of the box and sense based ROMs using HTC's newest bluetooth stack will work as well.
Q: I ran the RUU 3.15.651.16 but my ROM/radios did not update only my HBOOT did, how can I fix this?
A: First of all, if you are just reading over this thread and haven't actually RAN this RUU, then do NOT do it. If you want jellybean then just flash a stock Jellybean ROM. Now then, if you are having this issue, rollerpig has a potential fix in his thread located here.
Q: My question isn't answered here, what can I do?
A: Well that depends on what your situation is. Here are a couple of helpful tips, though:
If your question is a general one about the phone (how do I X?) then first SEARCH the forums. Try different key words. If that doesn't answer your question, feel free to make a new thread.
If you require immediate help you can always try dropping in IRC and see if anyone is willing to give you a hand. PLEASE NOTE: IRC is not there to provide 1-on-1 help. People will most likely help, but it is not expected. Don't spam with "PLEASE HELP I BRICKED MY PHONE!". Be courteous and patient.

No problem, glad it was useful
Just realized I forgot to reserve a couple of posts after OP. D'OH.
Posting this to try and reserve another post on the first page, will eventually turn above posts to continuation posts xD

Great post! BTW, your English usage and grammar are better than most native speakers so you have no need to explain or apologize.
USB Host Mode/OTG
Does anyone know if anyone is working on a kernel fix or custom kernel that will enable USB Host mode?
Might consider adding the "battery pull" press and hold for power button for 10 seconds

Good point! People new to the phone might not know about this thanks for the suggestion.
I have a new EVO 4G LTE and I haven't rooted or done the OTA update yet. If I do the OTA update can I root it using the following method: http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-4g-l...tc-evo-4g-lte-unlock-bootloadertwrp-recovery/ ? I need root for using modified apps like Google Maps with Navigation for locked countries. Thanks in advance.

Rule of thumb is to never take OTAs if you want to root. I recommend you root unlock the bootloader (either HtcDev unlock or S-OFF) and then flash pre-rooted versions of the newer Stock ROM once someone releases a version. This will ensure you keep root forever.

Nope you will be fine Wimax keys were stored in a different partition back in the OG Evo and the 3D, this is no longer the case with 4G.

Make sure the zip you downloaded is not corrupted, check that the MD5 hash matches if it is provided or simply try to re download the zip. Sometimes it might take a bit longer than expected so just give it some time

[Q] CM9 Video Issue

Very sorry if this is a repost or in the wrong place, new here.
I've currently running the stable version of CM9 however, no TV apps are working. Whether it be Netflix, TVcatchup or iPlayer, they just won't work.
I can browse the app for as long as I like but as soon as I press to watch something the screen goes black, audio DOES work and the phone just seems to go into spasm.
Is there a known fix for this at all?
Thanks,
Jay!
As I understand it, these issues are related to DRM. Stock ROMs have some specific components that custom ROMs don't, which is why some features are not functional, such as TV out of FM radio. They are drivers that Samsung has never released, and probably never will. Netflix cares more about securing their content than they do about whether you enjoy the experience of using their product on your device. They've declined support for a Linux client for much the same reasons as above.
For future reference, the CM9 thread is a better place to ask these sorts of questions. Mods may move this thread accordingly.
