[Q] TwLauncher problem, isntalling a new Launcher - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Twlauncher problem, i get the loop of errors and force to close in my friends launcer unfortunatlly he is not rooted and we are trying to avoid hard reset because he ll loose all the data from the phone
this is a similar problem that i found in youtube and a way to solve it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmprlsmHFgw
so the guy installs a launcher from his pc to his phone through the markets site.
the thing is that although my friend has 3G open the new launchers wont download so i found a launcher here in XDA in zip file to install it from the recovery menu, i flashed CWM recovery through odin and placed the zip file in the sd card but i had no luck finding it from the recovery (install zip from sd card) it says tha there is no file there, also cant find the storage on the pc when i mount it from the recovery so i am guessing that the recovery is not reading the sd card.
So finally my question is there a way to install zip or apk files through odin? cause i am sure it works or if there is a total diffrent way to istall something to SGS2 without being able to get in the menu it has to be installed through the recovery or odin.
Every aswer will be appreciated
Thank you all very much and i love this forum

Come on guys even suggestions would be nice...:silly:

If you have USB debugging on, you can push one to it via adb.
Alternatively if on ICS and you have a microSD card, you could use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 to give you CWM recovery and create a simple CWM flashable update containing one.

Can't flash clockwork recovery.

So i keep on getting this error when i'm trying to flash clockwork recovery. I'm on stock btw.
"Error while download from server. Please make sure that you have a stable internet connection, and that your SD card is inserted and has free space!"
I have a stable connection and my SD card is fine. So can anyone lend me the update.zip of the clockwork recovery?
found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893824
geez. Thanks man!
I had the same problem and installed the update.zip as per the instructions, but ROM manager will not detect that Clockwork recovery is installed and will not let me install a ROM. What can be done in this case? Clockwork recovery is correctly installed and works when I go into recovery mode. I am on stock Eclair 2.1.29 JFD.
If you can get to recovery by normal means you can flash any rom you want aslong as that update has been installed. Thats what I did. btw rom mananger was down thats why it was acting funny.
I see. So I can just boot into Clockwork Recovery and select "Install from zip" and that will start the ROM installation?
Thanks.
Once that update.zip has been installed It should take you to the green clockwork mod recovery.
You can then find the option that says install zip from sd. It will let you pick any zip file
For instance I Have bionix v.zip on my sd card in a folder called zip. I will navigate to that folder and select that zip file then confirm the flash.
Awesome! Thanks man, got it to work too! Was freaking out last night haha.
I was also. Just a quick note If you keep that zip file on the root of your internal sd card You can always flash that and it will give you access to the green recovery menu. I do that Now instead of installing the root update. Then I can automatically flash any rom I want.
Yeah, problem is I got wiped so my files and I didn't backed up that .zip. I thought there was something wrong with my phone.

people have been asking so i did it, made a video on how this can be used to restore back from CM7
This saved the day, after I restored my nandoid of rooted stock I lost all access to the barnes noble shop and could not access anything related to barnes and noble. I read of other people restoring there's back to stock and re rooting after experiencing the same issues as I to fix that issue. I knew there was an easier way and restoring this nand was it, seeing your back up was never registered in the first place. Your the man and I will be donating!

Will you make one for 1.4.1? Or is there that much of a difference? Thanks for your work man!

Trying very very very hard to do a factory restore but don't know how to do this:
3. Flash Rom w/ CWM Recovery
4. Use recovery flasher to flash stock recovery
5. Run Unrooter
Put file:CWMrestore_1_4_0_ plus NTV16gbV4_6 in sd card, booted into cwm. In video you have two cards. Not sure which card this one is and what to put on other card. Assume that this file is an update or something and now doesn't require two?
Trying to do factory restore and don't know how to do above. Chose zip from sd card, chose cwmrestore zip file and then it finds and starts to install then it is aborted. I have no idea if I'm even supposed to be doing this but there it is.
I have tried so many things from simple (the simple failed reboots method to very complex methods that I tried to follow very closely) and read so many threads and watched so many you tube videos that I can't even tell you how many things I've tried. Nothing works at least the way I'm doing it. I need to get this back to stock and start over because it is really f'd up. I think it was due to a bad sd card I used from the beginning.
Thanks for any help.

Can you access clockwork?

I can't get this to work with CM7. After choosing the zip file it goes through, but ends up with "Installation aborted."
I also tried wiping dalvik, cache, and format system, but nothing will wipe CM7 and return to stock.
What I when I select update from .zip file:
-- Installing: /sdcard/CWMrestore_1_4_0_plusNTV16gbV4_6.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
you have to unzip and extract the clockworkmod recovery folder to your root sd card...

Not quite sure how. The recovery folder consisting of the etc folder and one file, recovery-from-boot.p, goes to the root and the rest of the zip goes to the recovery folder and renamed to factory.zip?
When I do that, it still brings up Cynaboot and I'm presented with the menu. Choosing zip from card and trying to update by choosing factory.zip still goes to the previous Installation aborted error.
---Update--
Wait, I'm mixing up restore methods, as I've tried a number of ways to restore to stock.
I'm in the process of trying to restore by copying to the root of the sd as you recommended.
Not sure what to do next
I decided to use the CM7 from the sd. I worked through this restore, however, I got the following message after it processed through restring .android_secure:
Error while restoring /sdcard/.android_secure!
I tried it again and keep getting the message:
Checking MD5 sums...
MD5 mismatch!
Not sure what to do next...any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It worked beautifully. I had to Backup using CWM first to check on the folder structure, and saw that it was all neatly placed as-is in the zip folder. Restored and am now back on stock (and using CM7 on SD card).
Thanks!

I am EXTREMELY sad to report that the new "backup" image will not boot on my NT8.
I went through all the steps and CWM flashed the backup without any errors. It then returned to the main menu and I hit "Reboot System."
It just turns off (or goes into a sleep mode.) Nothing but a black screen. The Nook Power cable displays the yellow-red that seems to suggest that it is in a SOD.
I have tried every iteration of powering off for 30 secs and then trying, with/without the SDCard, with/without the Nook Power adapter, and nothing will turn it on.
However, as soon as I put either @meghd00t's NEW recovery SD or my CM7Alpha SD, they boot up without problems.
I CAN do ADB if there is a command that I need to issue to clear some register on the device? Anyone know what I should do?

After rooting with your sd i can`t access settings-keyboard, error: The aplication Settings has stoped bla bla bla...i wouldn`t bother, but i really need russian keys sometimes...(
btw, thanks a lot for booting cwm img and for recovery zip for sure too, saved me from brain damage)
PS: Nevermind fixed that by running any cut, creating shortcut and adding russian
i have a 8gb nt and i tried unbricking using this method... flashed recovery... and still stuck at the n screen. does not move past it.
Do I flash the rom or put the folder on sd card and restore if I am trying to do the unbrick process on my 8gb nt? I tried the restore but still just get stuck at the n screen.

Unzip the file and use clockworkmod to do a restore..
Thats what I have already tried... But im gonna try again, maybe I messed something up...
after flashing recovery, try clearing cache and devlik while in CWM, then reboot.

[Q] Bought Clockwork Mod Touch - How do I restore it?

So I installed ROM Manager and made an in-app purchase of CWM Touch.
Found out it couldn't see external SD card, so I removed it for an older non-touch CWM.
Rumor has it the latest Touch can see external SD's again, so I tried to re-install it through ROM Manager, but it's trying to charge me again.
Is there an easy way to get it back or do I have to contact the developer for that?
Go to the thread below. It has the IMG files that you can flash via mobile odin to go to a different version.

[Q] Please I really need help with locked s2

Hey everyone .
I have a problem here ...
My little sister was trying to unlock my s2 and tried too many times.
Thing is that the Google account i used on the device is very old and I have no clue what is the username.
I was thinking if maybe there was a third party app or software (PC) to use in order to access my data from the PC without having to unlock the phone so that I can back up my data from the internal storage and wipe my phone to use it again.
I have documents I really need on the phone . Please help !

How on earth can you have a google account assigned to a active device but not remember the email address of it?
I cant really see how that could happen, especially on a active device that has important files on. Also why didnt you simply store the files on external or make backup copies manually or automatically?
If the files you need are in custom folders on internal card (you created the folders yourself) then you don't need to worry. Simply reboot into recovery mode and use the wipe data/factory reset option.
WARNING: Do not do above if the device is currently on Samsung Android 4.0.4/kernel.
If you have a custom kernel installed you can simply reboot into recovery and use the mass storage option to mount cards to PC. You may be able to do this in stock kernel aswell, not sure as haven't ever really used stock recovery. Alternatively you could put a signed cwm zip on your external (via a card reader) and then flash it via stock recovery to get CWM recovery temp so you can mount drives or wipe data/factory reset.

Yes I know that was very stupid of me . Thing is my main phone is an htc sensation xe which I use more often.
The files aren't supposed to be on custom folders since I never created any folders on it .
I'm using the stock kernel by the way . I guess I'm really screwed .

GT-I9100 cwm / cm13 bootloop - data recovery?

My galaxy S2 (gt-i9100) was running cm13 for about half a year. Some days ago I let google play update my apps. The result is a bootloop.
I've used the voice recorder to record a lot of notes I need to remember. Is there any way to get those files out from the phones internal storage?
The CWM recovery installed lacks the option to wipe cache / dalvik, which I would hope could get the device out of the bootloop.
When booted into recovery, I've tried adb, but the device is unauthorized.
I think usb debuging was disabled, however, I'm not sure about that.
The ideas I have to solve this are:
1) flash some other recovery that will give an option to wipe cache/dalvik and be able to boot cm13
2) flash some other recovery that will make adb able to pull the files while in recovery mode
3) flash some recovery that is able to copy files from internal storage to sd card
4) factory reset, and hope the files don't get deleted (this is the very last resort)
The thing is that it seems like I'll need to do all installations from SD card via the current CWM recovery. Does anyone know of a suitabel download / howto that can help me get my files off the phone?
If reason for boot loop is Xplore file explorer latest update , uninstall it with developer advices:
http://www.lonelycatgames.com/wiki/xplore/crash_on_cm
I did factory reset twice because of app.
Thank you, Kepsilla. Unless that is an app that is installed with cm13 or gapps, I don't have it installed. But your link gave me hope:
If you have custom recovery on your device (such as TWRP), enter recovery mode, open file manager and delete folder /data/app/com.lonelycatgames.Xplore-1

Click to collapse
That means that if I can install TWRP recovery from CWM recovery, I should be able to access the filesystem. That should open up to two possible solutions:
a) Copy my files from internal storage to SD
b) Delete / modify some files to take all apps I've installed from play store will not start automatically.
Does anyone know of a TWRP that would give any of these possibilities and install on a i9100 using CWM?
(I can't really experiment iwht this - I feel the risk of loosing the files is too high. I have to know I'm going the right direction when I do something.)
Solution was very simple: By holding volume down pressed during boot, the device boots into safe mode - no apps started. Then I could just uninstall the apps that were set to autostart. Reboot and problem was solved.
I came across this way to enter safe mode when googling a error message that started to pop up frequently on my S5 mini. S2 with cm13 appears to have the same way to enter safe mode as S5 mini with factory rom.
