[Q] Htc skins? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Does anyone know if there are other skins besides Stock and htc hub. The stock ones are pretty boring. Also skins for the clock?

you can get more in the htc hub...in the skin picker just hit the get more button on top right...but in terms of third party skins there arent any right now ....i dont think its possible yet to create skins for sense 4 because the right programming hasnt been released for it (not 100% sure on this last statement maybe a dev or someone just wiser than me on this stuff can help out)

Am I the only that find Expresso stupid?

Hi there.
I am wondering, as I see the amount of custom ROM's Using Sense and 2.1, why people are asking to have Expresso on their mobile?
This UI is an horror for my eyes, and i was happily using Hikary ROM until he began to integrate Expresso. Than i tried the other Sense, but Expresso is everywhere.
I am now using a vanilla one ( Cyanogen mod) and i don't regret leaving this horrible Expresso.
I am wondering if it wil be easy to get back the "real" sense on future 2.1 ROM or if i'll have to forget all this stuff...
If i spend money on my hero, that was for Android and the UI. Changing the UI can make me change my mobile, because that is not anymore what i expect.
Please tell me if i am the only one thinking that...

Bubbles around icons in Expresso UI are worst but rest of features are better than Hero Sense UI.
We are using custom rom because we want to have different UI's on the same mobile. If u want Hero Sense UI then ask HTC not here. You paid money to HTC.
There are only two shortcomings with the Espresso that I dislike, and they can easily be ignored.
One is the bubbling, which most custom roms remove anyways
The other is the color scheme in the mail app. I rather dislike the hot pink or neon blue on a black background, as opposed to the black and green scheme of the Hero SenseUI.
You can try this one which is realy nice:

So anybody else think they should get rid of sense for 2.2?

yeah sense is nice and all but IMO the new Froyo ui looks way better.
I'm sure they will come out with an updated version of sense that compliments froyo. Android was ugly (still is even with 2.1 for the most part) and sense made it more accessible for the average consumer. A lot of people hate on it, but it does end up making the end user experience more fun for me. Can't wait to try 2.2, plan on using vanilla for a while, until I see what HTC does with the next iteration of Sense.
No I mean get rid of it completely in my opinion it'snot very aesthetically pleasing and also it causes the phone's performance to go down.

Ask HTC? I dont see them abandoning sense cause google made android prettier.
I really cannot understand people's unbridled hate towards sense ui. everything HTC adds to the phone has been everything I wanted, and google eventually did themselves. facebook and twitter integration, the widgets they provide are awesome, and just in my personal opinion the design is a hell of a lot sleeker then vanilla.
like really, remove all the widgets from your home screen. what's different from stock android? the bart on the top is now black, and they added a phone button and a + button to add things to the desktop... 2.2 just added a phone button, and the + was there because let's face it, there are probably a great majority of android users out there that dont know you can long tap on the screen or hit menu. android really never makes it clear unless you find it on your own or read the manual (2.2 tells you how to do it now though). I'm not one to agree with WalkingTaco on most things, but he's right, sense makes things look better, and is really really more accessible to the general public.
and really? slows down the system? sure on 1.5 I disabled it most of the time, I was like you, I didnt really see the good in sense because of how slow it was at times, I replaced it with slide screen. but man... I went to leaked 2.1 and got over it. it's so fast and smooth, I honestly dont remember how bad it actually was on 1.5. then I replaced my phone and got root 2.1... even better, I love sense.
and really, I don't care about what most of sense does. my favorite parts? the favorites, clock, and friendstream widgets. facebook and twitter integration (before google ever added it!). more screens, and a dedicated phone button on the bottom. that's it. and I love it. now that the phone button is there in 2.2 and more screens have been added since 2.1, all I need are those beautiful widgets and I'll switch to vanilla android, till then, I love sense.
and really, all these people that are ..."boycotting" (in I guess some sense of the word) sense ui, do none of them know you can just disable sense and use stock android on the eris? without even flashing a rom. really. "OH NO! the status bar is still black instead of white! this simply wont do! boycott htc!" flash the white notification bar zip and get over yourselves. there: stock home on an eris.
I personally like sense UI as well. I think it adds a graphically pleasing environment. I love the Email widget they have as well as the clock. I have recently switched to tainted vanilla and I do realize the speed difference. EE 2.0.1 oc'd to 768 was getting 3.2~ MFLOPS but when switched to tainted vanilla I was getting 5.0-5.2~ oc'd to 768 with the Nexus live wallpaper. I would like the HTC clock and email widget in regular android lol.
So no I don't think they should get rid of it at all even with the decrease in speed, it just looks way nicer.
Id like to see an HTC vanilla version for the eris... How long would it take them to make one?
but really who else would use it but 10% of the users.
I don't believe HTC would ditch the Sense UI. It's part of the experience of buying an HTC device. And users have the ability to use the regular Android Home on their devices if they choose.

one good thing to look forward to of sense on 2.2 is a lot of what htc adds in to sense, is now built into android.
htc was the first with facebook integration into the contacts wit sense, and if you noticed, it slowed down the contacts/dialer/messaging a lot. in 2.1 facebook integration was built into android, and it worked flawlessly.
same thing now with flash support. htc's flash plaer was buggy yeah, but atleast we had it. I made a lot of droid/nexus friends jealous with my ability to play vimeo videos.
i think with 2.1 and ESPECIALLY 2.2 once it comes out, performance of sense is flawless. but if you dont like sense for just an aesthetic sense, yeah nothing's gonna change.
who knows? maybe HTC will give us full flash while 2.2 won't support it for our device? just a thought.
if sense is such a big problem with performance then DISABLE IT or download an app that disables it for you.
if you have no idea how to do either then obviously have no clue how to use the internet (google is your friend) or search the forums and therefore a smartphone may not be for you.
The Android OS and APPs available have no end to what you can do with the OS and Sense. Hell you can ROOT the d^mn device to do even more options to do whatever you pretty much want to do with it.
But to complain about how Sense does this or does that and we should do this and do that and tell google & htc this, that and WHO CARES!!!
we have devs hard @ work......working for free in most cases i mind you to help make our phones better. if you want something added/removed or anything for future use then toss some coin their way and i sure they'd be glad to put it first priority.

[Q] SenseUI Metamorph Themes - More out there?

I swear that I can remember there being a host of Metamorph themes that will morph SenseUI with dark Rosies and different types of batteries (yes, I know there are lots of circle battery flashes) and things.
I scum through the Hero themes and apps, and can't find much.
I scum thorugh the Eris themes and apps, and SWEAR I can remember more, months ago.
I am I confused? I feel like SOMEONE would have/did make a blue battery/highlight color flash, or a different Android guy when a no-picture-stored contact/caller is on the line, or a graphite/black battery, or clear notification bars.
I see that there are LOT of cyanogenmod themes, and that's super. But although I see an awesome orange xtrSense theme there, I am lost on where all the metamorph themes I remember seeing, went to.
I feel stupid almost, since I've been around computers for years, and spent LOTS of time on forums, and even helping people, and rooting friends' phones, etc etc etc.
I swore I remember seeing a HTC hero theme repository thread with like 100 different little themes and metamorphs. I can't even find that (assuming any of those would work).
Am I crazy? Confused? (feel free to slap sense into me if so)
Where are all the SenseUI metamorph themes? Do I need to try to learn how to make some?
Yessir
I've been wondering this too, I remember before I rooted seeing a picture of an Eris with a black rosie and all the grey turned black. Heck that was half the reason I rooted, but I never have found it lol. guess I got side tracked.
I've been thinking of trying to make some Themes for punk.kaos's froyo sense when it gets stable. I've figured out a little about theming android, (I'm still not that good and have never themed sense, so dont expect much.)
I'd LOVE to have a white and blue sense theme though, that'd be on point.
I have only made two themes for the eris. One I posted on here the other is not done, so I guess that technically 1 1/2 but who's counting, and I can tell you it is more tideous work then actual challenge. The reason for lack of themes is probably just a demand thing. Most people that have the eris have had it for awhile. So they either already have it how they like it or have moved onto another device. I think it would be great for those of us with the eris to help out with theming and developing. With all the hard work the developers put in to the roms the least us as the end user can do is make some themes for others to use and give a variety of option for roms to look. </rant>
I think that may come off harsher then it was meant to when I was typing this. Anyway, if you or anybody else on here needs help making themes, I would be more than happy to help in anyway I can just message me on here I check this place probably 50 times a day. I would love to help some people get on the theming bus and help make some new themes for us to choose from.

I dont think thats harsh at all, its just plain fair.
the handfull of devs here work so hard bringing us roms we never would dream of seeing on our phone, the least we can do -if we are able- is contribute a little time to editing some pictures. it makes all our phones have that many more options. course...lifes not fair
I would love to learn. Where do you suggest I start? I've already taken pieces from several different themes to make what I want. I would like to see a nice sense ui theme. It can be done, shadowrom has a theme that is as close to sense that I've seen yet. They got about everything but HTC Widgets and the real htc launcher. However the themer made an HTC launcher dock background and some blank icons that when using launcher pro is very nice because your icons don't show up on the dock like they normally would. What would it take to incorporate the real launcher into a theme?

Here are some of the metamorphs I think you were talking about. Really the only ones I could find that seem to work. I know there's more out there. Anyone else got anything?
Simple Black Lockscreen arch
Espresso Rosie!
Im tryint to figure out where to find the icons at. I want to change my folder icons blue. Any help would be appreciated

Sense or AOSP [Poll]

This thread is a continuation of the thread started by: eggydrums

Hello there!! I wanted to make this poll to see what the fellow users here in the Amaze forums prefer, Sense or AOSP.
On one hand, we have the original, pure, vanilla android interface. Simple, nothing so complicated and still, yet to come the Amaze, "the pure Google experience". There is no rom that is FULLY stock, with the exception of BeastMOD and SenseLess which are almost de-sensed completely.
And on the other, we have the long running Sense, courtesy of HTC. With lots of eye candy, lots of widgets, and an obsession with weather, Sense is very diverse and customizable. One of the latest versions of it, 3.0, is included with the Amaze, and most of the custom roms for it are Sense.
Many people, love sense, others hate it and prefer AOSP over it. So, its simple, choose your preferred interface, and leave a comment of you want xD

You know what I find is funny?
For devices like G1, MyTouch even Vibrant a bunch of people really want Sense.
Now that you have a device that has Sense out of the box nobody seems to want it.
Here's what I have to say about it: If you don't want it, don't buy it. I happen to be a large fan of the Sense UI. I don't care about how "bloated" it feels or anything like that.
I used to make themes for the devices that didn't have Sense to at least give it a "Sense" look and feel. People went out of their way to edit the Sense UI apps just to make them available for devices that don't come with it.
So now that we seem to have the perfect device to run Sense... you all want to get rid of it?
I don't get it. If you don't like Sense then why by a phone with it??? Someone please explain that to me.

Very valid point,
here's my view
I happen to like HTC since i loved my nexus one, and I bought this phone mainly for it's camera, nothing else is like it on T-mobile right now. I neither hate fan nor like it there are parts of it I like and parts I don't. I bought the SGSII first and hated it, I hated the screen resolution and how big it was...this phone just felt good...Sometimes even if you don't like sense, there are no other options, every individual wants something different and not all cellphones deliver everything in one package. I was initially waiting for the galaxy nexus and just got tired of waiting. I hated the pentile screen when I looked at it in the store (even If I ordered over seas) NO dedicated camera button, this is what I really wanted. I also wanted a 720p screen like the rezound, If I could I would get the rezound, but it doesn't have dedicated camera buttons and I want that. it has the same exact camera as the amaze. a 720p screen on a 4.3 inch screen which gives better dpi than the retina display...But I have no choice, I'm not going to pay 180 monthly just to get that phone...right now I pay 60 bucks on a shared plan and get unlimited everything with 5 gigs of unthrotled data. I also like this about android and like things about the iphone, I can't have it all in one package.
I use locker widget, and adw launcher and I'm happy with it...I do not hate the sense launcher, or the lockscreen, I just prefer my own customization. I love what they've done with their camera app. I like their calendar application. I like their parts of their contact and dialer app and hate parts of it.
I talk too much!!!

Peoples always wanted what they don't/can't have. Simple
I myself love to have a Sense Rom mainly due to its lock screen and weather widget and a few more stuff but also running ADW so I can switching back and forth every other week or so
Personally I think Sense based Rom give me more options. If tired of looking at Sense, switch to other launcher and apps or vice versa whereas ASOP based wouldn't let me have Sense stuff if I so desired
Just because a phone comes with Sense doesn't mean it's the main attraction of the device. Did people buy the Samsung Galaxy S2 for TouchWiz? I sure hope not. There are other features of a product that convince people to purchase it. Specs, look and feel, cost-efficiency, and availability all factor in and affect this. The Amaze happens to feel like a really premium product with high end specs to boast. It also happens to come with Sense.
I don't hate Sense, but I just find it to be too non-customizable and would always use a third party launcher like ADW Launcher or Go Launcher anyway, so Sense means little to me.

Then go ahead and have your vote
I sense garbage.
This is my second htc sense phone.
You like sense until you try something else for a while.. Then you can't stand it.
We all have our own opinions.. It's fine, but for me it's a nice eye candy developed system that I can not stand and can't wait for cm7, 9 or something else.
Also a reason why I have adw launcher.
Talking of CM I kinda missed it alot.
Many great features: crt built-in, toggle widgets on top of pull-down notification panel, brightness adjust by sliding the status bar ect ... And separate lock screen wallpaper
Too many customization Sense lack
I switched back to sense for the beats audio

No problem.
I like sense, I like AOSP, just depends on how I feel that day. With all the themes, Roms, tweaks and different launchers, we can pretty much do what we prefer on any given day. I still have a cliq lol running 2.3.4 gingerbread aosp, a HD2 running Sergios core cell rom, and my "NEW" Amaze stock, patiently waiting for new developement.
Sense has great eye-candy and great integrated apps which is my kind of thing. like the built in task manager, built in social media, built in music player. its all better than stock IMO. Stock gets boring to me for some reason
I personally have no problem with sense, it's just the size, I like using my system partition for apps, but I do like the facebook and tight music control integration!

Aosp style sense 4 settings

Has anyone in this forum been able to successfully theme or port aosp settings on a sense rom? I know its been done numerous times on ICS but do you guys know of any for 4.1 or 4+?
Or hell if the ICS version would work on sense 4 with or without a little bit of modding?
Not exactly sure where to start but I'm familiar with VTS and whatnot... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Also I have seen pictures of an inverted sense settings (white text on black) but the dev never posted like he said he was going to, anyone have that.
Let me know if you want it... I'm using it on rebelrom ... Sense 4+, 3.17
Of course I'll credit him for everything, as this was a lucky find on my part

I will make the bold assumtion that you are referring to me...
I did post, but only for ICS. It was an utter mess and I gave up on it for JB.
InflatedTitan PMed me and this is my reply, just in case somebody might want to take it from where I left it (basically goiung through all the sense apps that create dialog windows or find the xml where this is controlled (probably in un compilable com.htc.resources.apk or even worse (but unfortunately very likely with htc...) in various different locations).
Hi InflatedTitan
Well, as far as porting goes, I have not done it on sense 4 and I don't know what it takes.
As for the settings.apk, I successfully themed it to look as AOSPish as it gets. Only, there where so many issues as I had to change the color of the text from black to white, that many dialog windows which had a white background where messed up. I then spent some time to find the respective files, xmls that control these dialogs but actually never found them. In the end I settled for what I have now, AOSP style but based on sense.
The major problem is that we can't properly de- and recompile the com.htc.resources.apk, where most of the necessary changes have to be made. So the basic process was to check the settings.apk for references to that file and then change them to somewehre we can edit, like framework-res.apk. It takes a lot of time and some understanding how Android works to get this done properly. I then also pushed some files to com.htc where I had to. You know, htc's software is very very messy, there is no direct logic to most of it and they have so many redundancies it actually just makes you want to cry out loud No wonder all the sense versions so far where an utter bloat. Ahhh, just imagine another htc nexus...
I made some documentation here, but it's a bit of a mess.
It outlines all the things I changed (to keep track) and whether the changes actually did someting (green) or not.
Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, I would stay away from it. I am a perfectionist and I just felt it was not worth the effort. And that was quite some time ago, when the One X still was still a relatively new device...
