Is there anything I can do to stop the browser from reloading the Web Page every time I go back to it?
Example; open a Page, screen goes off, a little while later I go back to the browser and it has to reload the Page.
Example 2; open Page, multitask over to Facebook app or anything else, multitask back to browser and wait for it to reload the Page. It's a pain on slow 3g speeds.

I believe this is due to HTC wanting the browser to be using less Cached RAM this leaving a little more RAM available to use when browser is not open. Now to answe your question I do bot believe so to be honest but it does not bother me so I have looked into it at all, sorry.

I agree...this really sucks...
I would like to know also.
I've noticed that if I switch apps, the page won't reload if I just use the back arrow to get back to the browser. You can't always back arrow to the browser, but when you can, it's great. I've also had better luck re-opening the browser from the home screen than I have with the recent apps button. It ALWAYS ALWAYS reloads the page if you use the recent apps button. At least for me it does.
As a side note....**** you HTC. **** you and your stupid ass refusal to fix the multitasking. Can't wait to get on a non-sense ROM.
I would think the carriers would rather not have it reload to save data.

Not just HTC
I have this problem on my stock ASUS Transformer 300 also. Happens with multiple browsers, including Chrome.

I've been an Opera user on desktop since before I was on Android so I was bummed to find out it didnt yet have flash support. Months and months of using Dolphin Browsers waiting for Opera to get flash with no updates or blog posts about it was starting to make me think the.project got abandoned. Well.. just opened up Market and there it is. Some changes include flash support and ui changes. Just thought id alert all the other opera fans incase you didn't know.

Thank you for that. I ve been waiting for that for long time too. Opera mini on older java enabled phones is awesome so is opera desktop on computer.
I've never been a fan of Opera Mobile, doesn't render pages very well and has a bunch of other quirks. I'll probably check it out though.
Been messing with with since I posted this and the first thing I noticed is the UI is gorgeous. Pages seem to render properly and on large pages most of the content is already viewable while the rest loads. Also the scrolling is still smooth even while loading finishes. SO awesome to finally have my bookmarks and speeddail back.
Also I noticed the browser does use significantly more memory than others. I didn't notice any lag with my phone will opera sat in the background though.
YouTube videos play on the full site smoother than I've seen on any other android browser.
Now I need to try it with Turbo mode on.

What is the big difference(s) between Opera Mobile and Opera Mini? I see that Mini was just updated to 6.0.
Opera mobile renders pages client side and you have access to your bookmarks. And now has flash.
Opera mini renders server side. And if I remember correctly you can only save bookmarks to your opera account but can't get full access to your bookmarks.

It's definitely my favorite browser now.
I've used Dolphin (HD & Mini), Firefox, xScope, Miren, Skyfire and Boat Browser but Opera Mobile 11 suits me the most. It's simple, beautiful yet very fast and functional.
For those who don't want pages to be compressed, just turn off Opera Turbo. You have a choice to let it render server side or locally.
ive always been a dolphin fan...but it is very bloated, and can be laggy.
opera lacks features, but is very lightweight and extremely speedy.
just upgraded my opera version and right away, upon opening, the UI looks so much sleeker. my only complaint as of now is not being able to set a homepage. like looking at google right when i open my browser
also, theres no "exit" button......i want the option of either pressing the "home" button and leaving my browser open in the background, or clicking exit so my browser completely shuts down.
EDIT: one more gripe....cant add bookmark shortcuts to homescreen or folders
------
i know it sounds like im being overly negative, but dont read too much into it. im seriously ocnsidering dropping dolphin for this. which says a lot cause ive only used dolphin since i started using android altogether. im just sharing observations and *****ing out loud .....still a fantastic browser!
I think the lack of a homepage is to promote the speeddail. I too wish for a exit button but since the task manager is only a long press away its not that big of a deal to me.

Its just like firefox. Type opera:config in address bar and hit enter and it will take you to configuration settings. Scroll all the way down to user pref and expand it and you will find what you are looking for.
1.type opera:config
2. user preferences
3. custom user agent
4. paste this Opera/9.80 (Linux; en) Presto/2.7.81 Version/11.00
5. save & restart browser.

ps. tried Firefox on my Nexus One.....didn't feel like its complete...but web pages loaded a bit faster then on Opera, at least they did a few times that i tested.
Hey I've been trying several browsers and only Miren browser had the feature I need. I mean then I loaded pages stays loaded until I close the tabs/browser manualy.
All the other browsers keeps reloading pages then I don't need them to reload. For example - open some website, go to other app, then turn off mobile network and wifi, then go back to internet browser and it's only blank page (or an error page).
Recently I have flashed ICS ROM and now Miren browser FC sometimes.. I guess it's because of Miren browser is no longer supported and some ICS incompatabilities or ROM problems..
So can someone recommend me another browser which doesn't reload pages when apps being switched back and forth? Or way to keep all browser loaded tabs (in cache(?)) so it don't need to reload so much?
Opera mini or mobile.

Thank you for replying but I already had had tried Opera Mobile.. Now I have tried it again and Opera Mini. And still if I open any page, switch to other app and turn off network and then switch back to Opera, page reloads..
This sucks. Even phones with Symbian can do better..

It sounds like a bug in the ROM your using honestly, try flashing a new ROM and testing the browser.
How much RAM do you have? For me both Dolphin and Opera will keep the last page(s) open if I hit the home button and come back. I imagine if you are running low on RAM the browser process is getting killed.
Any solution for this? I'm using the stock ROM and stock browser... I don't remember that this used to be a problem, is it a setting that was changed or an update that caused it?
Very irritating, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanx.

solution to mobile browser page reloads
There is a solution to this problem in case you're using opera mobile:
1) start opera mobile
2) in the web address field type about:config
3) in the search field on the now open page type refresh
4) uncheck "client refresh" and "client refresh to same location"
5) click on "save"
6) close opera mobile and - just to be sure - restart the phone to clear all caches.
Be aware though, that now you'll have to refresh pages manually if they contain heavily updated content (such as live feeds).
Hope this helps
I have a question that might relate more to Android than to the Note. I've been using an iPhone since the 3gs and got my Note on Sunday.
On an iPhone, I can exit the browser, do something else, then come back to the browser and continue where I left off. The state of the browser is saved.
With Android, the browser goes back to the home page. I tried Opera and it seems to bring me back to the page where I last left off, but it has to reload it. It's better than nothing but I'd really like to save the browser state in memory.
Can I get the same type of thing in Android? I looked through the settings and didn't see anything?
Thanks
As long as you don't use the back button, it should stay on the page you were viewing. Hasn't happened to me yet.
Hmm.
I just opened up the Android Browser, went to slickdeals.net, hit the home button, went back into the browser (slickdeals was still there), opened up the weather widget, hit home button, opened go SMS, hit home button and went back into the browser and it took me to the home page again.
What am I doing wrong?
Hmm mine does the same thing. I'm using Opera. It seems like if it's closed for any length of time then it dumps the page from memory and requires a reload when you come back to it. My guess this is working a working as intended feature of the operating system.
I tried the exact same thing. Opened Engadget, hit home button, hit weather widget, hit home button, opened the messaging app, hit home button, hit Opera and it had to reload the page. I remember my iPhone saving browser state for days and I guess I never noticed it when I switched to Android about 8 months ago. Just tested my old Inspire on wifi, it does the same thing and it's running ICS. It's gotta be the operating system.
I notice the same thing with my Note. my moto Atrix didnt do this so i dont think it has to do with android in general.
its android..doesnt have anything to do with the Note.

I know what you're talking about. This happened to me several times on my Note. The first few, I kind of blew it off, then it got annoying. When I actively tried to duplicate the issue, it came right back to the same page I was on, rather than the home page. This makes me think that either I closed all apps from the task manager and forgot or that Android actively killed the browser after a time. I definitely never had this happen on my Skyrocket or Vivid.
I just tried to reproduce this - opened Opera, loaded a page, went back to Home, opened a half-dozen apps, went back to Opera, and my page was still there.
Opera keeps the page but has to reload it. The default browser just loads the home page.

Dolphin Browser HD seems to save my pages for days. If I forget to close out my pages it is always on where I left it.
It probably has to do with how the browser is treated by the automatic task manager built into android. My guess is that the stock browser and Opera get closed after a while of non-use, whereas Dolphin probably has some sort of higher priority and stays where you left it.

To be clearer - Opera did NOT reload the page after opening the various other apps in my test. It wasn't until much later when I re-entered Opera did I see it reload the page. Maybe an hour after I ran my test.

This is samsung's browser most likely as I didnt have this happen when using cm7 on my htc inspire, but if you go do something else and want to return to the browser's last page you were on what I find is working for me is holding the home button and when all the open apps show up just select the browser and it should return you to the last page you were on. Since it only shows 6 apps, if you've opened more than six apps since you left the browser then it wont be on the list and would need to start a new session. This is so far how I've been able to return to my browser's last page I was reading.
This is not a Samsung or a typical Android issue. I have had the Skyrocket, Atrix, Atrix 2, Thrill, Inspire, Captivate, and a some others. Never had this issue. Only with the Note.
For some reason, i believe the stock task manager is violently overkill app processes.
Is anyone else experiencing this. I do not have power saving settings on at all. Can't figure this out and driving me crazy. Guess my Tf Prime got me spoiled!
Is there a cure?

I'm with you; this drove me up the wall until I just abandoned the stock browser and started using Opera as default. So far I haven't had any need for the stock one and Opera retains previously visited sites (even if it needs to reload it).
I was pulling my hair out when I was cross referencing something. Every time I left the browser to check phone settings the page was gone what I came back, having defaulted to Yahoo.
Opera is free from the app store. I'm using the Mobile edition, as opposed to the Mini edition. It's more like a regular browser and doesn't rely on a server to 'feed' you a simplified page.
i use opera. it can hold page in memory.
I also stopped using stock browser and went with dolphin hd.

I had the same issue with the stock browser and then switched to Opera as well.
But for some reason Opera wouldn't display Flash so I ditched that and switched to the Dolphin HD browser. Dolphin HD is definitely my favorite so far!!
Mine right now is dolphin and Google chrome. Dolphin because 1# Im used to it. I am getting sick of it because it freezes and make wait sometimes. Chrome is very nice but flash does not work.
Tried Dolphin but there is no option to always show the tabs.
Currently I'm using Xscope, it always shows tabs, uses GPU acceleration and supports flash.
Overskreen
It works faster than stock/Chrome and the only thing it is missing is Find On Page. Give me that feature and I'll forever forget the other 2 browsers.
Opera, because its the only one without "wait" issues. if I need flash, I'll open the android default browser.

Opera Mobile primarily with Chrome a close second. Opera Mini when I don't need flash. Opera is my primary browser on my laptop, sooooo I am use to it OKs it syncs all my bookmarks. I also feel that Opera Mobile is quicker and works better in a few situations than Chrome.

I'm using Dolphin now, used to be Boat but that just crashes WAY too much.
I can't seem to import bookmarks from my desktop with the other browsers so I can't use them.
Using Xscope and with no problem so far. Used dolphing but sometimes crashes when trying to open flash content, and facebook.com in desktop view is buggy.
I've been using ICS Browser+, although I will say that I do get the "wait" issue from time to time... it's still a very smooth browser and I like the gestures ability. On top of that (literally), I use Overskreen when I want to wikipedia something I'm reading, or if I want to do a translation.
Boat is smooth for me, but only when the page is fully loaded. Opera Mobile is fast at rendering, but panning around the page gets that weird ghosting looking that hurts my eyes.

Look on the market for rotation locker, it's a pink icon in the shape of an L. When you launch it, it will give you a menu, long press landscape or portrait, and you shouldn't have issues.
It also has a tasker plugin which I use on my phone for FPSE to keep it landscape, then set back to auto when I exit FPSE.

Using Opera Mobile Labs now. Think someone linked it on another thread in this sub forum. You can't get it in Play Store but if you do a Google search you should find the apk easily. It is in testing and by far the best mobile browsing experience ever. Using it on my Prime and my Evo 3D

Chrome Beta i have zero issues with lag it syncs wiht my phone and desktop bookmarks and im pretty much signed in on all my fav spots. Can't wait for it to loose the beta tag
I'm pretty satisfied with the stock browser, in my testing chrome was sometimes much slower, I believe when browsing asus website about firmware updates.
also IIRC it doesn't have the cool "slider button" on the right side of the screen as the stock browser has, which allows to scrolly the whole page quickly.
