I'm a nobody and can expect to be wrong about release dates. But when Asus, the company themselves is wrong about the release dates makes me scratch my head harder. Not from the morphine either.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26425513&postcount=12

It has been released, just not in the US, and probably on the slow side too.
"Asus has NO plans at all to release their 700 model until winter/Christmas holidays so they can reap in the big sales."
Good one opentoe.

Well they were right in that it's released end of Q2.. June is end of Q2..
Now, the US operates in a different fiscal year than the US.. US's Q2 ends March 31 while Taiwain's is June... Since ASUS is HQ'd in Taiwan and they did release in June, they made it.
So they were right at least.

You can already per-order in Sweden, it means they will be here in 2-3 weeks. But it is two expensive , around $900,00, way too much for a device running Android.Gonna for sure get a 3G or LTE Nexus 7 when they are out instead.

Why you would want to pre-order the infinity after the Prime issues is beyond me but thank you all for buy it. Please come back and let us know if it is worth the money to buy one meaning does it behave and perform for the price paid.

According to a recent pcworld review, it comes with the same software glitches as the Transformer Prime.

Considering how well mine works for me, I welcome the improved WiFi, GPS and graphics performance. I will be placing an order as soon as I find a reliable seller offering it and will sell my good working TF201 on eBay as I did my good working TF101 before it.
Bye.

TF700 in stock now at office depot. I just ordered mine. 32gb gray. GL

Production delayed on the prime? UPDATE from memory express on delay

Just received an email from memory express who I have my preorder with.
You’re receiving this email because you’ve expressed interest in the Asus Transformer Prime, Asus next-generation quad core high performance tablet. We just received word this morning directly from Asus Vice President for North America Sales and Distribution that the production on the Transformer Prime has been temporarily delayed. Asus focus has always been on high quality and with the Transformer Prime being their flagship tablet product they’re spending some additional time and resources to ensure that the Transformer Prime reflects that at launch. We have also been informed that the gold version will not be available in Canada at launch.
At this current moment we don’t have a solid ETA on when pre-order stock will be arriving, as Asus updates us I will forward the information your way.

Wonder if there really is some sort of delay/problem or they just decided to screw over memory express and using that as an excuse?
UPDATE:
emailed memory express for clarification on the delay.
Originally we were supposed to get them on the 6th of December. According to Asus they are shipping on the 15th which means in theory we should have them on or after Christmas day.

but really, i'm almost expecting gamestop to pull out on like, the 18th or something.

If I don't have my tablet in hand by the 19th I am cancelling my pre-order.
Wow. I would really be upset if that was the case.. I got everything set up (skin, microsd card with movies and music, screen protector and notebook case) its hard enough waiting until just the 19th for this device through gamestop online preorder..

Actually, if this is true, then I'm tempted to cancel my pre-orders, period. I certainly don't want a unit that has manufacturing/design issues, which would explain the delay.
Could the few that ship have been hand-picked to not have the problem, or are they initial units that simply slipped through the cracks?
i would think news like that would spread like wildfire on the internet. I've seen nothing of the sort. Ever since my pre order I watch the web constantly for prime news!

I've been surprised that there's no reporting whatsoever on all of the confusion. I think maybe the original Amazon pre-order cancellation was reported on a few sites, but since then, nothing. I mean, this whole story is newsworthy (at least as far as the sensationalist tech media goes)...
I GOT AN EMAIL TOO! From NCIX (Canada)! I asked if I was on the first shipment with my pre-order and this is what they sent me:
Yes your should be, but we got more bad news yesterday. Apparently the wifi signal was very weak from these units so they have delayed this even further. We will be mass emailing everyone shortly with a temporary solution for the holiday season.
Best Regards,

SOOOOO my guess is that there are wifi issues with the first batch... They might not send them out, they might. By the sound of this email it seems like they MIGHT ship the bad units out anyways and give us a "temporary" fix, OR by temporary fix they mean "we'll delay it and give you something so you don't cancel over the holiday season and buy an iPad 2 instead".
I'm guessing they're really delaying the devices past Christmas. Sucks...
Oh and in the meantime on the ASUS Twitter page, everything is perfect! Yay!

Were the cancellation/notice of "wifi issues" from official launch partners? (Sorry, I don't know who the Canadian launch partners are)
If not, then I'd expect this is the justification they were given for there not being stock for non-official launch partners and what they're passing on.
The wifi thing, though, does make sense. I remember at least one review (the link evades me) where the guy was having serious wifi issues, and then got a replacement tablet which didn't have them.
So my guess is there's some sort of production issue seen on SOME tablets, and they're catching it in QC and sending them back, meaning the stock they have to ship for launch is cut way down (which would also jive with the Amazon excuse for their cancellations).
...then again they may be shipping them all and letting the early adopters do the QC, like what I seem to remember hearing with the original transformer. But that seems a bit unlikely given the excuses/stock underruns that have been going around.
Edit: Ahh, it was the Anandtech review -- http://www.anandtech.com/show/5178/an-update-on-transformer-prime-battery-life-wifi-issues
yes both NCIX and memory express were listed by asus as places to preorder the prime
I'll let you guys know what's up when they send out the mass-email. I'd be interested in knowing what kind of release date/window they give me with this whole delay thing. Oh and PRAYING for a free dock or something.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease... if this isn't an across the board delay a bit of complaint might get you something, if not quite your wildest dreams.
At least B&H seems to be unaware of this or their support just does not know.
Chris : Hey! Do you know anything about Asus notifying sellers about technical problems with upcoming Transformer Prime? Apparently launch partners of Asus in Canada stated that they got a message from Asus yesterday: "We got more bad news yesterday. Apparently the WiFi signal was very weak from these units so they have delayed this (release) even further." Has B&H gotten such delay notification? Thanks!
Mark S: Hello Chris. My name is Mark, and I will be glad to assist you. Please give me a few moments to begin working on your inquiry.
Chris: According to forum post this notification came from 'Asus Vice President for North America Sales and Distribution'.
Mark S: We have not received similar notices from ASUS

Interesting how this is happening with the preorders in Canada but the device has been selling in Taiwan (Wasn't the release date 1 of December there, I think a few people have already got their hands on the Prime in Taiwan).
I would have expected the production issues to be present everywhere, including on the Taiwanese Primes.
Well to be honest I don't think we'd hear too much about problems with this device in Taiwan... For all we know there's a recall going on right now. Where would we even get that info?
I don't think this effects the u.s. Batch.. Seems to inky originate from Canadian preorders.
Hmm I will have to check my order with NCIX also

well it is possible it was one specific batch that came out bad and what they decided to do was screw over a few retailers completely and ship to other retailers as opposed to being short with everyone.

Thinking about just sticking with the TF101 that I already have, since there's really nothing wrong with it.
What I really need is a new phone to replace my OG Droid, but the Galaxy Nexus situation on Verizon is equally a mess and I'm kind of considering just getting a Droid RAZR instead. I'm pretty fed up with all these premature product announcements followed by indefinite setbacks.

agree, seems that they just like to preorder and talk about new products. And after some weeks they start finding bad things and cancel there orders and wait for the next new super mega gadget that they can hype and preorder and then cancel.
That sort of people never buy anything, they just like to talk and show the world how smart and cool they are. They are just BIG trolls sitting in there rooms with dreams and fantasy and believe all that written on the Internet.
Asus Prime will be the best tablet for months.
First in the summer other manufacturers will have there products for sale not any sooner.
Phone vs Tablet - Late Binding
Here's my stance.
My OG Droid is on it's last legs (but still quite usable with CM7 on it). I have a few more months even. But I have my eye on the Galaxy Nexus, being released Dec 15 (maybe).
I had an Acer 10 tab, which I really liked, but returned to Costco because of microphone problems and seeming lack of Acer commitment to tablet space. So I decided to wait instead for TP. Currently have one on order from BB, release 12/18.
So my current scenario is to receive replacement tablet week of Dec 19-23, and hold off on phone for a couple of months.
But if the wifi problem with TP are serious, or BB surprises me with a delay, or there is a REALLY good deal on Galaxy Nexus, then I'll cancel TP order and do the phone first, tablet later.
I'll make the decision with more data in about a week. The trick now is not to fall in love with any scenario.
The people who cancel I bet will buy it when its in store.
its a daycare for kids here on this forum. Keeps em outta trouble.

This is probably realistic. I'm guessing from leaks there are at least two quad-core tablets well in to development that will be announced on January 10 at CES. To see them on the market 30 to 45 days later is plausible. Other than the Teg3 and dock there's nothing unusual about the Prime. Other manufacturers, most with more R&D resources, haven't been eating bon bons since Nvidia announced Teg3 and Asus starting making noise about wanting to be first to market with a quad-core tablet.
The dock is what interests me about the Prime, though: I'm interested in it because I think a device which can be closely integrated with a keyboard will be much more useful than a tablet alone. So I'm not changing my allegiance right now. If I didn't buy a Prime, I'd probably buy no tablet unless anyone else comes out with something equivalent.

This works incredibly well and doubles as a protective case. You can also lay the keyboard flat and the case doubles as a stand. The Asus keyboard adds additional battery life but other then that it accomplishes the same function. It's very pricey though.

No track pad, no extra battery, no extra ports... The TF dock is way better, IMO, and worth the $150 extra. I love my TF101 - wouldn't even consider buying anything but the Prime at this point.

That site your referenced is the 5th different site I have seen today that has referenced the Phandroid article as the basis of creating there article. I wish sites would actually try and find out if it is real or not by calling the company before they start spreading more rumors. Apparently 2 people on this site has called Asus and they still claim there is no delay and the Dec 19th date still applies for the US, but that's taking there word that they called and talked to knowledgeable reps on the phone.

By bad news, I'm assuming (after reading the other threads) the OP meant:
The recent revelations that some review units to big review sites had WiFi strength issues (weak wifi connections). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385391
While this is a confirmed issue in some test units, it has also been confirmed that other test units to other big review sites are NOT suffering this issue. The bad news is that there is a possibility the Prime shipment (OR availability) may be delayed until after the much "confirmed" date of the 19th so that Asus can fix this wifi issue. If this wifi issue is NOT in the hardware BUT in the software (is this related? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384034 ), then there is the strong possibility that there may be nothing to worry about and that the 19th is the confirmed date (and thus no bad news).
A major Canadian retailer/seller (NCIX) has emailed buyers telling them that a hardware/related issue is prompting Asus to delay ALL shipments of the Prime until the issue is solved http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384870
A lot of people are viewing this as bad news, while others think this is simply NCIX giving a fake or typical marketing answer to make sure the buyers do not run off to the competition.
It seems majority (or all?) such news of cancellations due to hardware issue OR "confirmed" shipment delays have been based on those NCIX emails. No one knows for sure if what NCIX is saying is true, if it's something related only to NCIX shipments, or if the confusion behind the release dates is indeed because Asus is scrambling to fix the hardware issue WHILE making sure the retailers (at least BestBuy, Newegg, Gamestop, Amazon, etc in the US) do not open their big mouth about any Prime problems like NCIX did.
Check the Gamestop thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1374761 ): people called yesterday and today, and they're getting more firm answers that the Tablet WILL be released on the 19th. I'm going to call Gamestop right now and find out the date I can pick it up (and will post in the Gamestop thread).
Online stores from my country date it mid January since it became available. No changes so far.

*Edit*
I have no idea why... can't watch the video, and I still haven't seen where is says it's discontinued... OHHH.... he's talking about the availability to purchase it... Dude, that probably just means they are out of stock!
It also says "or vendor". They're probably not able to get their hands on stock right now
Well, when I went to Best Buy to get my TFP replaced, she said that they couldn't replace it, because the particular model Grey TF201 32GB had been discontinued. Then she did an OMS and was able to send a new one to me. So I don't know. It's possible. But if it is. Asus owes us all New TF700t.
There's talk of this over at transformerforums also, I personally don't think it's true. Although if Asus is getting back the majority of the Primes sold as RMAs it might be their only choice.
My guess is that they'll fulfill their orders and then stop production of it and attempt to address the issues, allow a swap with the new one for those who have already bought it and then gut the old ones and put the the insides into the new casing and maybe sell them for a slightly discounted price.
Obvious this is just a theory, but I would like to see thi happen.
Getting the same thing at a much larger retailer: Newegg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230219
well damn..
It doesn't make sense for them to skip a whole price point, having the original transformer at $400, the Prime at $500 and the TF700 at $600. I'm betting this will discontinue this particular model, and replace it with the Prime+ or something like that which is just the Prime, but with the back casing from the TF700 to solve the wifi/gps issues.
Returns cost them money
Maybe they just don't want the hastle and expense of all the returns.
my second prime seems ok (just received 2 days ago) but hearing this news, what will it mean to those who keep it? Is it better to return it and wait for the new one or keep it and hope Asus will still support us and continue to update the original prime's software 6 months from now? I only have 1 week left to return....
Ok, I asked them on their wall on Facebook if it really was being discontinued (the official ASUS page on Facebook) and this is what I got in reply:

Pretty much always better to wait for a new anything, if you have an alternative till then.
Asus should support it as far as updates for a while, they are even updating the original. Why wouldn't they?
Wasn't it reported Asus admitted it has a design compromise and removed GPS from the specs on some ASUS sites?
MAybe shipments are delayed as they are removing GPS from the box label?
Or are they going to change the design slightly to allow it to work better, who knows...
From a resale point of view it may drop in value quicker than normal.
Possibly a tweaked current model design,
won't be long till the iPad 3 is out and also the enhanced hi-res Prime.
Then Windows 8 transformer type tablets will hit with a big impact.
But today the Prime is still selling at a premium on eBay .
aww.... is that true and official?

Dude, WIFI being bad before the release was also FALSE RUMORS. Guess what? They weren't.

How many Primes you think ASUS have sold at this point

Prime still flying off the shelves, how many do you think have been sold? Also it's interesting that nowinstock indicates that only Amazon and Gamestop have been receiving shipments lately.
In fact, for the last almost week . . . the only company that seems to have any significant stock has been GameStop. Maybe Amazon is getting a bunch and selling them on preorder and they never make it to the rest of the public.
Still, does the lack of stock not seem strange? We are now 3 months post launch and they are still hard to find. It must mean that either they are selling so fast that no one can keep up . . . or they are slowing production until they can figure out how to make them reliable.
I am inclined to believe that it is a combo of the two with more emphasis on the latter at this point.
It is very strange. I have been looking at Best Buy.com every day. If they get any more in before my final Return Date, I am going to get a new one. If they do not, I am still up in the air.
I always search all of the Best Buy stores in the Indianapolis area, and only a couple of stores have had any at all in the past 30 days. This is nearly 3 months after these started hitting US shelves, and you still cannot buy one.
That is very strange and weird to me. Anyone, by now, should be able to walk into a store and get a Transformer Prime. Heck, I bet you will be able to walk into a store and buy one of the new Transformer Prime models before you can the Prime Tf201.
This far into production, these things should be everywhere. If the sales are so good, and if the Satisfaction rate is REALLY below 1% (which I would have to see actual valid data, cause I do not believe it) why can't I go buy one in a store?

Have you tried going in the store and asking them if you can do an "OMS order" and provide them the SKU# of the prime? Thats what I did when I did my prime exchanges but after the 3rd I decided to cancel my order and got a refund. And my local Bestbuy never had any primes in stock nor will they have it. Its pretty much a straight from warehouse to you or to the store of your choice even if they are out of stock online.

Anyway, no telling.
I'd say lack of supply is certainly not because everybody's running out to grab them... I'd go with option two, they slowed production after the holidays and aren't ramping it up again at all. They'll keep them crawling out until the next two models are out.
175,000. Just a guess. It's probably much less since the damn thing has been out of stock forever. It's not that they are selling out of a lot of stock fast because clearly with the trackers they come in and go out of stock so quickly that each place is only receiving a handful at a time.
They have basically sold all of them since no one has them in stock.

I think this is probably the case, but not for the reason you're thinking. While it is certainly the case that manufacturers ramp up production for the holiday season and slow it down afterward, we have to remember that these units can take months to reach store shelves after being built. Asus has said repeatedly that they vastly underestimated demand for the TP, and that's probably because the batch that was supposed to be sufficient to weather the holiday rush was ordered months beforehand, before all the pre-orders were even in. I speculate that the current lack of supply has to do with a mad holiday rush that they weren't prepared for, still haven't recovered from, and is exacerbated by the (presumably) large number of units they've been forced to ship to replace defective first batch units.
I'd say easily over 175,000-200,000+. Watch what I tell ya lol
Tactics such as this might also have a part to play as asus might well be seeking alternative assemblers to look for ..I have a feeling that the TFP was assembled by wistron (but my memory is shyte and it was most probably someone else lol)
If the Prime has sold that many... I guess my question is how many of that was returned back to Asus?
In Australia since they first arrived at JB Hi Fi, it seems like it is a combination of not enough stock and they are selling like hotcakes when they do come in. The Whirlpool Australia forums "where to buy" threads seem to have random posts about them being in stock somewhere and then out of stock not long after. In Japan when I was there recently, the TF101 and the Slider were the Asus tablets on display , no sign of the TF201 so I have no idea what is going on...

I dont believe that since its coming from a biased source. Id believe it if it was coming from the retailers themselves, but that was never included in the article.
We know Asus' tablet sales were down 24% in Q4 from their earnings report so there weren't a lot sold then. This came out today which shows Q1's pretty much tanked for tablets with Apple and the KF projected to sell 12.5MM of the 15MM tablets to be sold in Q1. So clearly there's not a lot of demand for Market-capable Android tablets, Asus' or anyone elses, with 2.5MM in projected sales for the quarter. Asus held 10% market share before the KF and NookC were released so that would amount to 250K in sales (TF101 + TF202) from January through March.

Tablet sales this quarter could be suffering from a hangover from the holiday season. According to a DigiTimes report, the global tablet shipments will decline by 30% in Q1 2012 compared to Q4 2011.
The report also mentioned that out of a total of expected 15 million tablet shipments in Q1, Apple’s iPad 2 and iPad 3 share will be 11 million, and Amazon’s Kindle Fire share will be 1.5 million.
Such a large decline is not good news for the tablet industry, especially Apple, because the iPad accounts for about 13% of our $550 price estimate for Apple stock.
The launch of the iPad 3, expected to be introduced later this quarter, however, could help boost the tablet industry and be part of the reason why buyers might hold off from making purchases in the beginning months. Our price estimate for Apple stock is about 10% above the current market price.

I dont believe that since its coming from a biased source. Id believe it if it was coming from the retailers themselves, but that was never included in the article.

Can you prove that there has only been less than 1% of the sold primes have been returned? Do you thinks an Asus personnel would actual tell you the truth of primes returned even if it would make them look bad? They already mentioned the aluminum back was a problem and do you think adding that they have for an example a 10% return rate would help? Look at the xda forum and all any polls taken about the prime, do you see any that was 1% or below not satisfied owners or returned tablets? Thats why third parties are much more believable than ones numbers released by the company themselves.

Breaking news... New parts coming that will fix GPS/WIFI/BT issues

I was speaking with Aaron from the special TF201 hotline for GPS/WIFI/BT. I have removed the phone number due to ASUS preference that TF201 owner use their product support line at 1-888-678-3688.
I called to arrange to a second RMA for a TF201 unit that he would personally check over for me. But he informed me that I should now wait because new parts are currently being manufactured that will "fix a lot of the problems with GPS/WIFI". He said they're expected to arrive in USA by the end of March. Aaron said the news came from Taiwan this morning.
All I can say is awesome! This is the hardware update we've been waiting for. Keep your fingers crossed that the engineers get it right this time.
This is good news for the ones who are stuck with their Primes.
For me, that's too much of a long wait. I'll probably just return my Prime and get the TF700T instead and forget about all the Prime nightmares.
ASUS may not want this phone number posted publicly. The reason I gave it was for others TF201 owners to be able to call and confirm the new part story. Perhaps, if the phone number is removed, ASUS could make a public statement here in order to give credibility to the GPS/WIFI/BT fix.
Thanks.
Works for me
Now I do not have to figure out how to get a TF700T back for my prime. I don't the mind "lower" res screen I have now

Exactly what I was thinking. And good for ASUS because they keep my money.
This is indeed interesting, because if they really can resolve the GPS/wifi/BT issues with some new parts, that'll mean that the Prime will definitely continue on as a product and the TF700 really will simply be a higher-end device. I'd probably go ahead and send mine in to get fixed, although I'm happy with mine as it is now.
Personally, I'm still torn between wanting the performance benefits of a 1280X800 screen vs. a 1920X1200 screen (that's 2.25 times the pixels when the TF700 will only have about a 10% increase in Tegra 3 clock speed) as compared to having better text for ebook reading. I'm thinking I'm happy with what I have now, but I have to admit to a nagging doubt. If the rest of the issues could be resolved, I think maybe the money I saved over the TF700 will make up the difference.

Sounds like good news. But I don't trust the RMA ogres handling my TFP.
Not sure if I will send mine in when the fix is available, my Wifi works fine and my gps works outdoors(but not good indoors--but I don't care).

Right. The TF201 then fits in the middle of the pack. Thanks for not abandoning us ASUS.
hopefully when the new parts are available, RMAing the prime will be quick and shipping paid by asus
I hope these changes make their way into new units soon. I have an extended warranty with the retailer that I could exercise instead
This is good news indeed, thanks for posting it. But yeah, as it's been mentioned, it might be best to remove the number. By the same token, it would also be nice if Asus could confirm that these fixes are coming. They may not want to do so publicly if they don't want to deal with a colossal flood of RMAs, though...
There is nothing wrong with he gps. It will never get better.

They can probably base it off your serial # as to when they shipped it out. I know Acer does it if you dont have a receipt. Which in your case should still be well within 1 yr.
Order # should work too in most cases.

You should be able to request a duplicate receipt from retailer.
Wow, great news and really hope it's true.
I'm still waiting on replacement for my current prime, but I heard it could take another few weeks. With a possible fix in sight I can wait 2 extra months if needed
Will keep the prime, because it's perfect when wifi is fixed. GPS will be nice.
This resolution is good enough for common use and for ebooks I'm still going to buy a Sony eReader: too much reflection on the prime although IPS+ is indeed bright.
BTW this resolution is better (faster) for gaming than HD on Tegra3 (T700 does come with Snapdragon and tegra3 model right?)
So will this be covered if I unlocked my bootloader and stuff? Or can I do it myself?

Precisely the reason why I'm not going near unlockers for the duration of my warranty. Sorry that I didn't answer your question.

Now, if that was made official, then there would be some hope. As it stands, we cannot yet believe it. Would not be the first time tech support people misinformed customers.
