Restore Note to Stock without USB connection? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I went to plug in my phone to my USB cable connected to my desktop, and and I noticed that my Note wasn't being recognized by my desktop, and but was still charging. Long story short, I deducted that it was an issue with the phone's hardware (tried different computers, cables, and ROMs). I have the $10/month warrantee from ATT, but just assumed that I could trust take it in because it was rooted and on a custom ROM. Is there a way for me to flash back to stock and unroot the phone without Odin or any other desktop utility, so that I can take it in?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

I ran through the forums and didn't see a cwm flashable stock rom. So you may be out of luck on that one.
If you do find a stock rom you can flash though, you could potentially use this over wifi adb.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23499670&postcount=133
That'll remove CWM. Best bet might be to say you lost it and pay the $199 deductible. I had to do that once - I'm using the old phone as my mp3 player.

Are we sure this isn't a driver issue? I know its supposed to auto detect but it might he worth trying to install the drivers yourself manually and try again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

I tired reinstalling the drivers and Kies on two different computers. I read somewhere just now that the issue was most like an issue with one of the wire strip on the USB dock part being messed up.

What about copying the original files onto a microsd from your computer and flashing from that?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

Well that leaves me in a pretty bad spot I guess. I suppose my only options are to take it in to the ATT store and hope the guy can exchange it right then and not notice or care, and try to find someone who will sell me a single USB replacement part (looked everywhere though and only saw bulk dealers), and or just continue using it and never switch ROMs I guess

I didn't see a stock rom for him to do that with.

You can use the mobile Odin when you find a stock rom.
You can get a stock backup from someone who has stock rom and CWM and will reset to factory and make a backup and send it to you.
The at&t person won't check to see if you have CWM.

If the OP wants to do that, I'll be willing to get a backup for him. I'm still on the stock Gingerbread system with root/CWM. I'm about to install another rom over the next couple days, so just before hand I can get a backup.

That would be amazing. With that backup, I could just flash it, but and essentially be back to stock? Also, I how does Odin Mobile work? Will that unroot and flash me back to stock or is it just a way to flash like CWM without having to go into recovery?

I'm going to be spending the afternoon/early evening with the wife, so when I get home I'll get a backup for you.
And yes, you'd be back to stock. Make a backup of everything you have first though.

It just downloaded the mobile Odin, and and it said something about my device not being compatible, and that it could take up to 30 to generate some file that might make it compatible. Has anyone else used this on their Note before?

I used it, but I don't remember which phone.
So you will have a nandroid stock backup file soon. To flash that, you need CWM recovery. Do you have that?

I'm creating the backup right now..
I might find a server that can be used for downloading.. that way we at least have a completely stock cwm backup.

Good idea. Maybe Electron or another developer could host it for everyone's availability.

gagejbond, do you have PM's enabled? I'm going to send you a PM in a few with the link for the download. I'm testing the restore on my phone right now..

I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I stumbled across this thread, became intrigued by the idea a cwm flashable stock backup might get posted (would like to have one again after i accidentally deleted mine), but really stayed and read the whole thread because it was so great to watch you/gage/the rest of the thread interact and ACTUALLY help one another on this forum! No flaming, no bashing/bickering etc. Doesn't seem to happen enough in my opinion. Great work again people.
If I happen to be of help to you, please hit THANKS, as I have low self-esteem and crave validation! Running TEAM EOS ICS

I'll tell you what I did, I fried the phone so they couldn't access anything on the phone. I handed them a completely bricked un responsive phone and their wasnt anything they could do but to give me a brand new one lol. Unless you wipe data from the device prior to a return to stock via Odin ....you "will " have severe boot cycle issues....
In fact .....you must wipe data .....then return to stock via Odin .....then wipe data again before the first boot cycle on the stock rom.
But because you "must " allow the device to boot after pushing any file to the device to complete the write cycle, wiping the data a second time before booting is not possible ....
That being said ....simply wipe data after the return to stock before pushing the stock recovery over .....g
There are many methods ....but I use the above .....
Finally able to update everyone. I got it all stock. All I had to do was go into the stock recovery and wipe data and cache. Perfectly stock and shipped to Samsung!

[Q] Unroot i717 help

After extensive research, I have finally given up on looking for my answer.
Please have mercy on my tired soul for having to ask the next question:
Is there a way to unroot your phone without using Odin? My USB Port is damaged.
Thus, I am returning it to ATT warranty to get a new one.
I want to make sure that they won't be able to notice that the phone was rooted.
Stock rom, stock kernely; counter, the whole shibangbang.
Is there a way you can simply flash via CWM or..? Something that doesn't require a USB.
Any sort of direction or advice is much appreciated!
Thank you in advance, even if you don't have a response, thanks for reading.
Stock rom.
http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyNote/SGH-i717/ICS/I717UCLF6_I717ATTLF6_ATT.zip
Do a little more research but I'm sure this is a step in the right direction.. ask around though cause I'm not 100% positive you can just flash it via recovery but if you can, this is the stock rom for our i717's

They can easily use an external battery to use the phone.
Then they'll see all the amazing mods.
I remember reading somewhere that you can do it with Mobile ODIN Pro from the play store, no PC required. You'll have to drop 5 bucks on it but I imagine that beats $500 on a new Note
Mobile Odin doesn't support the note. But you should double check me in case he made a version for us.
Ah I think you're right. I think what I read was for the international version. My mistake!
In the super everything stickie there was a method to return to stock without a PC. That should work for you.

Brother let me tell you what u have to do, either way if Ur usb port is screwed u have to keep Ur cell I'll tell ya why. First you are rooted. Second you probably flashed another rom. Third your flash counter. Why not buy a USB port and attempt the fix your self or take it to a repair shop near by u? The fix is cheap.
This happened to me my USB port was shorted and if u move the cable at a right position it would or wouldn't charge or USB to PC. Got lucky enough to flash, reset counter, and also flash recovery stock via adb. Shipped the phone next morning to att since I already received my replacement phone(which glass screen lens is cracked now) will fix it waiting for parts

I have an AT&T repair center in town here. I called AT&T for my issue, got them to say "yea ok we'll do a warranty on it" so I took the time to unroot it, return to stock reset the flash counter and after I waited for 15 minutes while the guy showed a blond how to load pictures onto her iphone he took a quick look at my phone, checked the notes on my account and handed me a refurb. he didn't boot it, didn't look at flash counter, nadda. so take it as you will. I would however flash a stock rom and remove your custom recovery but I'm not sure about dealing with the counter.
Download SUPER USER PRO from the google play and iinstall (course)on settings you should have the option to FULL UNROOT there see pictures!!!!!

[Q] Sprint Galaxy Note 3 rooted, unable to tether.

Hello all,
I will confess that I am an absolute noob. I have had my Sprint Galaxy Note 3 since November last year. I finally decided to go ahead and root my phone so that I could use the tether feature. I also like the idea of having control of my own device. I have been reading and reading, and reading on the forum and referencing information from a copy of the Android Hacker's Toolkit by Mr. Jason Tyler and Will Verduzco.. and I'm confused. The information is great however the vast majority of it is over my head.
I have used Chainfire's method for rooting my phone and have installed TWRP for the recovery, and have made a back-up. I have tried installing and using WiFi Tether by TopAppLoft and several other applications from Google Play. I am unable to get the wireless router to work.
What could I try in order to be able to use the WiFi router without having to pay the extra $ to Sprint?
Thank you in advance for any information anyone can provide

Thank you sir! I took a peek and the Odexed Blue ROM looks like a pretty cool ROM. Once I flash the ROM if I want to go back to what I originally had I can just use the Reboot Recovery command through Goomanager? I created a nandroid back-up file through Goomanager of the current configuration on my phone.
It will be a few days before I can get back home and flash a ROM but thanks again and I will let you know how it goes. :good:

I honestly only used goomanager a few times and never made a backup with it. I use twrp for backups and flashing as I believe most others in this forum do as well. I would consider making a backup through recovery unless someone can tell you otherwise. All the roms should have the 4 in 1 power menu and you can access recovery through there. The two easiest ways to go back if you were unhappy with a rom would be to restore a backup through recovery or Odin back to stock. However I think you will be very happy with strongsteve and his odex blue rom. I have used his rom since he released it and it really is flawless and very appealing to the eye. Good luck. Let us know if you need help.

Sir,
I selected Bonsai_BETA_v0.0.5 - 01.14.2014 as my new ROM to flash as it lists the native hotspot mod as one of the things it has included. I was unable to figure out how to install OdexBlue through Odin version 1.85 (this was Chainfire's autoroot application) and I was unable to locate OdexBlue through Goomanager. I made sure to do a nandroid back up and did a complete wipe as I installed Bonsai through Goomanager. I successfully flashed it however I do not know how to get the Native Hotspot feature to work without it telling me to "Call Sprint Customer Service" to activate it. Not sure what I should try at this point. Perhaps try another ROM or seek out the Native Hotspot mod from Mr. Micmars?
If you want odex blue download it from the rom thread to your PC then put it on your sd card. For some reason my phone will not download the odex blue roms. No need to use goomanager to download roms, you will find the download link in the original post where you find the rom description. Once it is on your sd card reboot to recovery, make a backup in recovery, wipe system, data, cache, and dalvic cache. Now from the main menu of recovery go to install, find the rom and install it. Reboot and it should work fine. These are the basic instructions for most roms but always read the developers instructions as some are slightly different. I'm guessing you may not have wiped system, data, and cache which may not allow you to use the hotspot mod. Report back with your results.

Storage unavailable error

So I was using the Minin3 Maximus 5.6 rom for quite a while now. But I was wanting to try out some aosp roms so I made a backup and installed Carbon rom nightly build. Used it for a few days but I have actually got really adjusted to touchwiz. Thus I wiped everything, installed the backup, now my internal storage is just not responding. Everything works just fine. However I can not download any images, save videos from youtube, basically anything that will save to internal storage. I have already tried going to twrp and rewiping everything, tried fixing permissions, everything I can think of. This happened once before and I had to completely wiped the whole phone and external sd card to get it to work. Really trying not to do that again. Any help is much appreciated.

[Q] Bricked Nook Tablet (16GB)

Another sad day with a Nook Tablet being bricked. I haven't been on here in a while since I had thought my NT died out on me, I've already bought a dell venue 8 and everything but today I was curious to see if I could get my little nook up and running again and I did. Turned out the battery connector had came loose and all I had to do is push it back in and now it works just fine. Although it is running up with lit screen and all, I do seem to have a problem with it getting to turn on completely. It's turning on then clearing data and doing system factory restore but around 80-90% of the way it's done, it shuts off. I know for a fact it's not the battery giving out because I've let it sit through Adam Outlers Ubuntu restore for well over 5 minutes. I've tried many things being reparting it and using system images to push to sd card and let it flash itself and no luck. I've yet to try a sd cwm (backup restore) or a bootable cm10 sd card. I just want to be able to run stock with no problems and i'd be fine. I'd appreciate any help and I hope all of you have a great day!
Edit: I've also tried flashing Roms, no luck there either.
I have been able to get CM10 Running with touchscreen working and all. I can confirm my tablet is on stock firmware for touchscreen. The recovery flasher won't work. The recovery is never replaced. I've tried many restoration files and none have worked as of right now. If anyone has any advice, it'd be nice. This is very time consuming and I would like to dev for the Nook Community again but what good am I with no tablet ;D .
bump...sigh
Sounds like you just need to follow the threads to make a bootable micro sdcard, unlock and root it (which gives you custom recovery), update to the recovery that works for the android version you want to develop for and enjoy it.

I am no expert but I assume you have rooted it? If not then could that be why it isn't accepting the recovery? For kicks I would root via SD then see if the recovery works? Also how are you doing the recovery? Internal install or CMW via SD? If you are doing CMW via internal, I would try the SD external version.
Also if it tried to restore the stock and failed, it might have done enough to unroot it which could (maybe) be causing your issue?
Personally I have the stock ROM (4.3) rooted as I like this method the best as well (gives me the best of both worlds and suits my needs currently)
I haven't been able to get my links to work but I have a solution.

Thank you, I'll test now and report back. I've bricked this thing so many times lmao.
Edit: no go, the drivers don't like to reason with me. (Win 8.1 might be reason)
Did u try going into the BN website and download them from there. It took me a while to do it from Win7. I kept connecting the nook and it finally took it. Don't give up bro.
