[Q] adb device attached but offline after a few seconds - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

i was wondering if anyone else might be having this problem.
when i connect the phone it shows up and is accessible in adb but after a few seconds, between 15 and 20, the device goes offline but still shows up as attached.
if anyone has any suggestions for diagnosing this problem or experience with it please share.
thank you

ok well the 10th reboot and 5th port change seems to made the phone happy. stable for 10 minutes so far.
it seems to like a shorter cable or to be plugged directly into the motherboard usb port instead of the front panel ports.

[Q] can i use my NT while usb is plugged in

Hi,
i have a NT , when i plug in the cable to my pc it shows he usual USB mode.
is there anyway to have it in usb mode but be able to use the tablet at the same time ? in other words get rid of the damn pop up and let me use it while its in usb and charging mode ?
thanks
you could try disabling automount... maybe the USB window is triggered when the SD is mounted for computer use.
That is absolutely correct. If you don't know where to find automount, it is accessible through the nt hidden settings app.
ive also been seeing a weird issue , ive done that in the past , but when my tablet is connected to power / computer usb cable to any power source my touch screen is funky , when im on the lock screen i can do stuff , i can pull the bar over to almost get it to unlock but when and if it does its funky , i just kicked it out off of auto mount and i have what i want except touch screen is not actually working , if i unplug it from the cable the screen works ,
any ideas ?
You could also try "ejecting" the device. That might put it in charge state and allow you to continue using the device.

I haven't noticed the "funky" screen on my NT, but have experienced it on smartphones in the past and it was associated with a noisy charger. Try using different chargers and see if the problem gets better or worse.
ah yes you have a valid point i have two NT's one for me and one for my gf hers blew a charger and we had to have B&N replace the usb port receptacle already , had it less than three weeks. I will try it with her usb cable and see what i get as they changed the whole assembly and if it does not occur with her new cable i will get them to exchange it before the 1st ..

[Q] No charge, No MTP initialize, zero USB activity

Hey guys, thanks for dropping by.
I have a very wierd problem, that I just cant figure out.
It all started the other day, when I found my tablet dead after having been left on and charging during the night. The tab was dead, and I feared the worst. After having left it on what seems to me like a trickle charge for several hours, I managed to get it up and running, and the tab seems fine, it was just completely out of juice.
But my troubles are not over. Whenever I'd connect the tab to the wall charger, I'd only get the red "X" symbol in the corner, and it would say MTP Initialize, even though its plugged into the standard OEM wall charger that comes with.
When I connect the tablet to my computer using the same cable, nothing happens, and by that I mean nothing. Computer doesn't start the connection process at all, its not recognized in the device manager, nothing. Not even Odin can see the tablet when I put it in download mode, the tab keeps saying "Waitting USB Cable..."
Tried this on 2 computers, still no luck, even using a USB plug on the motherboard instead of front-usb.
Now, the tablet will "trickle charge" from both the wall charger, and the computer, but nothing else happens.
I figured it could've been the ROM, so I got the latest ICS Kanang ROM downloaded, transferred it to my tab using Bluetooth, and flashed this without hassle, but the problem still persists, only now showing a regular charge icon in the lower right section, but it is still only trickle charging as far as I can tell.
All I can figure is a defective USB cable, or even worse, defective port on the tablet itself, but I'm not sure. I've ordered a new cable from DealExtreme, that will hopefully arrive sooner rather than later.
But seeing as the tab is hardly 4-5 weeks old, I find it difficult to believe the cable is the problem.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm all out at this point, so any pointers is very appreciated. Thanks.
It could be the cable. It's the part you have used in each situation. I'd wait for the cable to arrive and test it with the tablet when you get it.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
Hey, thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I really really hope this is the case, time will tell, DealExtreme is not the quickest dealer. I'll update when I get it.
The new cable came from DX, but I'm afraid it showed no difference on anything.
The cable is working just as the original one, so that's not the problem.
Anyone have any ideas?
I guess my main goal at the moment is flashing it back to stock and un-rooting so I can get it repaired.
You mind posting a screenshot, it's kinda hard to imagine what you see by what you read For all I know my imagination went from a red X to the corner to something like an X off battousai's face.
Then again, I'd be glad to help, provided you post screenies, would be a major help
Ah, yes, I will take screenshots of anything you want to see.
Right now im on ICS preview, and these are some snapshots WITH the cable connected.
The red "X" I'm talking about you can see on the first picture on the charging icon, this happened even when the wall charger was connected on gingerbread/overcome experience rom.
The other pictures you can see it says discharging. Now, this was taken when connected to the computer, and I guess that's normal, but it also happens exactly the same when connected to the wall charger that came with the unit.
If you want screenshots of anything else, ill get it asap!
I took a poorly image of the tab connected via USB, to my computer with Odin open, hopefully you can see what it says.
If not its just what happens, I don't get further.
By the screenshots, Is the language Swedish?
Then again thanks for providing the screenies
In your first screenshot that could be part of the theme, or was it never there previously? I don't really know if it's not charging or that's supposed to be the charging icon, because for some odd reason on ICS preview I don't see that red icon anywhere.
As for the tablet, the reason why you aren't detecting it seems as though you don't have the drivers on the PC, I don't know if you installed them or you didn't mention it because I never found it being mentioned in your reply. I know it sounds silly but the same thing happened to me when I was using the tablet, (originally my 3G series belonged to my dad who knew nothing about modding so he just gave it to me and said, "do your thing" ) He did also forget to mention that you require to have the drivers to detect it via Device Manager and MTP in general, shortly the COM port will show up aswell. Perhaps re-installing the drivers should do the trick?
Made me wonder how did you install ICS in the first place if you weren't able to have it read? But I realized you could have downloaded the zip file via the tablet, On another note, how did you install CWM in the first place? o.o
Hehe, almost! Its in Norwegian on the honeycomb picture.
The red "X" would show up whenever i was connected to the PC via USB, to indicate its not charging. It will however "trickle" charge, and take 24h to charge fully with no usage and turned off.
Yes, the red icon is not on ICS, it just says not charging in the about page, as you can see from the screenshot.
Drivers have been reinstalled two or three times on two different PC's, I don't believe this is the issue.
When I bought the unit, it was working 100%
USB was okay, I flashed and rooted the unit over to "Overcome Experience".
From there I transferred ICS preview via Bluetooth and installed that way.
Have you tried factory reset to make sure all modules are reset? Maybe the USB charge module in Overcome is conflicting.
Yes.
Factory reset 3-4 times on the two different roms. I've reset everything I could find, without success.
Perhaps it has gone faulty with the tablet's plug in port, someone had the same issue although it was his wire that was at fault, it detects the charge via USB but not enough volt's to be detected by the PC, has it been grounded? Seem's more likely :| Might have to get it checked in your local center perhaps, It's how I mentioned that any metallic object is able to relay electricity despite being broken or not, you may have a broken pin for all I know :|
Hi,
I'm having exactly the same issue with my 1 month old tab 7+. I tested it using my bosses charge cable and there is no issue so I need to go to the service centre for a warranty replacement on the cable.
Hope you sort out your issue soon!
Thanks, but I don't think I have any other choice to deliver it to Samsung Europe as a payable service to get it fixed.
Purchased on a American store, and I doubt they'll take it back with flashed software.
I'm not sure really, I'll see what I end up doing. Its not the cable, that's for sure.

USB in only off state with green light

Hi,
I have a problem with the battery charging.
The USB port doesn't seem to work at all in all situations except when i switch off and connect the charger or to the pc.
In that case the green light will come on for a few minutes or seconds and the phone will start automatically but after that the the port seems to loose functionality again.
It doesn't seem to be recognized as a mass storage device and neither can i get it to be recognized by flashtool.
Anybody has any idea what might be the problem?
Same prob
I have the same problem and its only getting worse,
for me it wont be recognized either but since a day only the wall socket will get the green light to burn.
Im guessing sending it in is the only option for us.. :crying:

[GUIDE] Fix Sola While Charging Problems [Not charging/Touchscreen Errors]

This guide will help you:
- diagnose charging problems;- fix problems with the touchscreen while charging;I decided to write this because I searched for my problems on-line and never found a complete answer, just partial undocumented answers, essentially guesses from people, tried them, most didn't work, wasted a lot of time with trials so I hope this will save some people some time.
1. My phone says it's charging but the battery level drops or stays the same.
This is common when you are not using the original charger, but in order to check if you phone is actually charging you need to look in dmesg for something like this:
Code:
ab8500-charger ab8500-charger.0: VBUS input current limit set to[B] 500 mA[/B]
When connected to a computer (USB 2.0 port), you will usually see a limit of 500mA, and when connected to a car/ac charger, you will usually see a limit of 1500mA. If the charger is defective or not recognized by the phone you will see 0mA, even if the phone will look like it's charging it's actually not charging!
2. I get touch screen errors when my phone is connected to a PC or when charging.
It took me a while to figure this out, but it's quite simple, you need to check that your outlet is grounded. Once you plug your notebook/laptop/computer/charger into a grounded outlet all problems will go away. If you can't get a grounded outlet but still need to use your phone while plugged into your notebook/laptop remove the charger from the notebook/laptop and all will be fine.
The touch screen problems can also be fixed some times by using another charger, but this is a process of trial and error, for example I managed to get 2 chargers to work from 10.
thanks man... great post.... already clicked thanks button....

LG G8X charging issue (USB set to power supply)

over the last couple days, my phone has not been charging properly. go to plug it in for the night and come back to an empty battery.
looked into it and it looks like the phone is stuck in power supply mode, i cant change it.
Attempted fixes:
tried multiple adapters
stock LG cable and charger
Lenovo laptop adapter 65w PD
Razer laptop adapter 45W PD
Kopplen powerbank PD +QC 3.0
USB port on APC battery backup
stock magnetic charger does charge, it just sucks and requires the dual screen case vs the otter box i have.
reset phone (restore from backup)
works temporarily then goes back
tried reset without backup
cleaned the port with isopropyl and q-tip
checked for bent pins
the phone charges when not turned on
from what i can tell it is a software glitch, not hardware related. i get this in 2019 but i started using a G8 because i had a few issues with the case (mostly size.)
does anyone have any suggestion on what might help fix this? this phone might be 2 years old but has only been used for 8 months the battery still charges to full and otherwise works great.
i am running android security patch from august so maybe the December one will fix this.
Bro did your problem solved? How did you solved? Please tell me because I'm also having same problem.
Thanks, but select usb configuration is opening for only about Milliseconds and then it close automatically. So what should I do.
I am also facing this issue post Android 12 update. I have to always select Charging mode from the power mode and selecting 'always' does not work. Everytime i connect a charger, I have to select Charging. Mine 'Power' options stay in the drop down menu though. Its a big hassle and need a resolution. Does LG have any helpline we can contact?
Any news? I have lg q60 with that problem. Phone looks like brand new. Cleaning charging port and motherboard doesn't helped.
I have got same issue in LG G8, few month ago it happened with me, but it was fixed automatically.
Now problem is when connected to charging socket, it shows slow charging and charge mobile in 6 7 hours, when connecting USB or other OTG etc it shows Power supply mode and Computer is not showing mobile.
