[Q] Samsung S2 i9100p root problem? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just tried rooting my i9100p orange uk model and now it is stuck on the yellow triangle when i flashed the insecure kernel. I tried flashing the secure kernal back again but still the phone is stuck on the loading bit when you first turn on the phone.
I am stuck on what to do?
Please could someone help me as i need the phone working for tomorrow?

What insecure and secure kernels did you flash? And where did you get them from?
My guess is you flashed kernels either not meant for your device, or you flashed a Gingerbread kernel on an ICS firmware, or vice versa.
In any case, you need to include more info. What build are you on? What did you flash?

I got the kernel from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
GT-I9100P_BVKI2_original
that is the one i downloaded.

can i just re flash the stock rom will that solve the problem?
if so does anyone have the link for the i9100p orange stock rom?

http://androidromupdate.com/2012/04...ce-cream-sandwich-i9100pbvlp6-stock-firmware/
if i download this rom and flash via odin will it solve my problem?

Well, that is a Gingerbread kernel. However, not knowing what your actual firmware version is, I can't say why it failed. Maybe you were on ICS? Or if you were on Gingerbread, the firmware version was too disparate from the kernel version.

Yeah, it should. Until you try to root again. If you flash that firmware, do NOT try to root using the same insecure kernel you did before.

Once i have flashed it back to stock is there a solid way to root ics particularly that rom?

Yes, if you had searched you would have found one of the last 20+ threads about this
1) Download old gingerbread bootloaders and a rom from this thread
2) follow instructions on flashing rom/bootloaders from that thread
3) you are back on gingerbread, congratulations.

Isn't their a cwm app in ur app drawer? This should take u to cwm. Then u can restore.

haha I bet that confused ya
I did search but couldn't find anything. Anyway I'm back to normal.. all I had to do was reflash the Siyah kernel which comes with CWM recovery tools...
anyone know if there's any type of ICS out there with Hebrew support? The stock doesn't have it.. maybe CM9?

I think cm9 does, based on what I think is Hebrew.
But I don't know if it's properly rtl or not...
just out of curious, so u were on ics, flashed ur nandroid backup and flashed siyah?
What's a nandroid?
If you use the search feature on the Xda app it doesn't return very good results for some reason,I've noticed this before. Performing the search on the website whilst on a pc would be better! Lol

i guess he firstly flashed siyah to get the CWM app. i do not know if siyah works on ICS.
he might have flashed the appropriate CF-ROOT kernel from Chainfire's thread.

If you have flashed the ICS bootloaders you need to flash the GB bootloaders back (Or it wont boot or be unstable), nandroid doesn't touch the bootloaders.

I had similar problem. I solved it by flashing 2.3.6 stock to get the old bootloader then flash cf-root and you can flash criskeloROM through CWM or eventually flash CF-root on ICS

[Q] Which CWM version

Hi, I am running an ics custom rom from rizdroid 19100xwlp4-19100xxlps-19100luxlp1 and I would like to flash clockworkmod to my rooted phone via Odin but not sure which version I need. Any help please or advise please.
Alan
I use Siyah Kernel which has CMW 5.5.0.4.
you can get this kernel from here:
http://www.gokhanmoral.com
Thanks, do I just flash my phone using Oldi with the Kernal or is there anything else I have to do?
If your phone is I9100 international model, just put the Siyah kernel TAR file on the ODIN PDA and flash.....
How did you flash the custom rom "rizdroid 19100xwlp4-19100xxlps-19100luxlp1"
can you give us the link/thread for this ROM
Here is rizdroid's custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487&page=416
I flashed used Odin, and my phone is an international 19100

my friend, this is not a custom ROM this is official ICS rom, after installing from ODIN, if you have followed the rooting method of the same thread instruction, (CF-root) you should have already a latest Clockworkmode installed in your Phone. no need of flashing again any kernels.
to checkout this just shut down the phone and press Vol-up+home+power button and hold for few seconds to appear the galaxy logo and keep pressing til it blinks and appear again then release.....you will get the CWM recovery
Hi all I did was flash the rom via Odin and I have an app that checks if you are rooted and it says I am but when I do the test that you said to do I get the Android system recovery not cwm recovery.

CF-Root for your firmware is not found so just flash Siayah from ODIN, make sure flashing file should be .TAR and selected from PDA.

The first thing you have to do after rooting is Nandroid back up and EFS back up of your phone...
Dont be after the shortcuts and tips, read as much as possible, There is no substitute for READING for COMPREHENSION.

Try the N. E. A. K. Kernel with the modded cwm, works very well!

It is not terribly required to change your Kerenel every time you flash, the suitable kernel already packed by devs for their ROM is more than enogh for running the Phone...but further it is your choice to change the kernel after exploring the reviews and features of the custom kernels and decide whether it will give you any advantage or not....Also no need to worry about Clockworkmode it will be their already on the (allmost all) Custom rom.
the kernel which I suggested that time was mainly for you to get a Clockworkmode recovey and rooting which anable you to flash roms further
NOTE : Once you have already got Clockworkmode no need to use the Odin version of the Custom Kernels, just take the CWM version and put it on your SD card and falsh it from CWM recovery.
Thanks for replying zaheedahmed, what do you think of Keasby's Kernel is it worth flashing will I loose clockworkmode?

No you wont loose the CWM, all the custom kernels are attached with a CWM recovery...that is the main goody of SGS2 kernels...

Sorry experts can give comments about the compatibility of such mix flashing....
But why are you so concerned about CSC, what difference is giving you XEU than others just for my information.
CSC can only flashed from ODIN, you will loose your root and you have to Root it again by flashing a Root kernel again...
Sorry I thought I needed csc xeu as I live in the UK
CSC not required if you enter network settings manually .

Easiest way to root is to flash a rooted kernel, such as CF-Root kernel.
Here is the thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399&highlight=CF+Root
In Post #8 you will find CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_LPG-v5.5-CWM5.zip which will work fine for your ROM.
Just download this kernel and flash it with Odin to your phone - as described in the first post.
If you want to remove the yellow triangle and reset the flash counter after flashing the CF-Root kernel, just use TriangleAway app from Chainfire (there is a link to it in the first post).
Good luck !

Still that annoying error 7?

Ok, I am lost, I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I tried to install the latest XXDLI8 leak, and I am met with error 7 in CWM.
I even downloaded and flashed the needed PDA from sammobile (which is XXBLG8_XABLG8_XXLH1) but I still get error 7? The assert check fails on PreloadInstaller

I flashed Cf-root, yes, but it doesn't interfere with what the assert checks check, and I need not flash the LH1 modem since it's already in the firmware I flashed with ODIN.

Sammobile are linking to http://www.hotfile.com/dl/170853923/e311e2f/I9300XXBLG8_I9300OXABLG8_BTU.zip.html which still needs the LH1 modem flashed after the ROM flash.
It does work, but you have to flash the modem or you get the 7 error. As above the root steps are not needed, until after the OTA anyway.

Damnit, even more problems. I downloaded and flashed the correct LG8, then I cf-rooted, and installed the LH1 modem and when I finally was supposed to install the OTA, the assert check failed on /system/SW_configuration.xml and threw me an error 7.

Flash the LH1 modem through odin and restart and again on the startup screen restart the phone in recovery mode. Do factory reset and chose the OTA file flash through recovery. Let the upgarde complete. Dont reboot, just do factory reset again and enjoy the leak.
You may root now if required.

I flashed Cf-root, yes, but it doesn't interfere with what the assert checks check, and I need not flash the LH1 modem since it's already in the firmware I flashed with ODIN.
I flashed i9300XXBLG8 i9300XABLG8 i9300XXLH1, which was listed as the needed PDA to flash the XXDLI8 OTA.

I initially had the exact same problem .. so I downloaded the I9300BLG8 base Rom again , but the one without the LH1 modem built in and then flashed LH1 modem after flashing the base Rom. This sorted out my problem .. using this method has been working flawlessly ever since XXDLI4 for me .. worth a shot mate .

So you odin flashed the base rom
then odin flashed cf-root
boot into cwm and flash LH1 and OTA (no reboot between) and error 7?
Weird. Something wrong with one of those files.

Those are the exact steps I took. None of the files seem borked either.

How do you get odin to flash an OTA file? I thought the whole point of the cf-root was to get to cwm? Did I miss something here?

Nope.. you can't flash the ota file through odin. Refer to my steps above, once the modem is flashed through odin, you use tge stock recovery to flash the OTA
