Does anybody actually know what source release will do? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I keep reading posts from people who aren't developers talking about how features can be added to roms when source is released, and how everything will be better with source, and how source will cure cancer.
So who actually knows?

I may be tardy to the party but did not see anything about this in the development threads yet. 2swizzle has this posted in the general section so in case anyone was looking for newer source code then what we had before. Snooped around it a bit and dates show 11/15/2012 as last date modified.Have at it devs in case you haven't gotten it already. Here's the link to Samsung if you don't feel like viewing the post

[KK][STOCK]Kernel Development

I'm currently looking for people that have some knowledge on developing kernels for the G2. At least the basic stuff like compiling them from source, handling toolchains and working with github. I know a bit of everything but still have a lot to learn and would like to share ideas and hopefully come up with a project between a couple fellas.
Anyone interested feel free to contact me via PMs or on this thread. TIA to anyone who cooperates
If there's a group already doing this I'd be glad to join too.

Android N - anyone working on it for the Mate 2?

http://developer.android.com/previe...ch_n_030916&utm_source=anddev&utm_medium=blog
Just wondering if there are plans for the Mate 2 to get Android N....

I wouldn't hold your breath.
I doubt it. If someone does do it... they deserve donations from everybody.
Would you believe me if I said I'm still using the CM12.1 preview ROM?

Questions should be asked in q&a thread. Not development thread. And NO
Noone is working on it. There is no source code.

While I'm not expecting an N ROM... there never was a source code for M either, and yet we kind of have it, right?

Got to agree. I never thought we'd see M. Yes, we do have it Scoob. Not even "kind of". I would not be surprised if one of our very talented Devs create an N. But, this device has enjoyed more life across a greater amount of Android versions of any device I have had. Totally amazing device.

We did have the source code. They havent released the source for N. Just roms. There is a huge difference. We had the source for M. There was no M until source for M was released. Don't confuse a rom with source.

How to start with Android Development ?

First of all, I'm not talking about making apps. No that is not what I want to achieve.
Second important point, YES I've gone through the pinned threads.
So, I'd like to begin learning more of the Android Development which currently is pure magic to me. I can build LineageOS from source for my officially supported device. But that is not development, I'd like to learn how the source code is structured, how and where each of the components lie, how do I understand the code so that I can too start contributing.
Besides this, I would also like to understand how device trees are made for new devices.
I've tried to get into contact with quite some developers, but all I've gotten is ignores, rude replies or the answer as "From Experience".
I'm unable to find resources for what I'm asking above.
If any chef/dev/anyone would be kind enough to help me get some direction, I'll be thankful to you. Ik my thanks probably wouldn't matter to you, but I really need to learn this.
Thank You
