Problem with creating backup on CWM recovery - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I have rooted my phone using the SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V2.0 by mskip. I have been trying to create a backup of the stock rom on my phone, but when I try to in CWM recovery I get error message "error while making a backup image of / data". Can anyone help me with this or tell me how to make a backup of the stock rom.
Cheers in advance
eze

When you do a backup, the .android_secure folder form the external sd is backed up as .android_secure.img (It's hidden in the backup set and not included in the md5 checksum). This always gets backed up, even in an advanced backup where data is excluded.
Then when you try to do a full_restore from this backup, after it restores /data it attemps to restore .android_secure.img and fails formatting the device, which kicks CWM out of the restore function and back to the main menu.
I've not tried it with the sdcard removed. I didn't know it would fall back to the internal sdcard. Easiest way around the issue (for now) is to erase .android_secure.img from your backup folders.the backup folder will be pushed to thr cwm folder in /data/media internal storage and your phone will reeboot into cwm to restore the nandroid backup...If you use samsung toolkit ; the point n5 is the backup and restore entry ,then passes to the point n10 and performs restore \data\media (internal virtual sd card) if the backup is done correctly you will have no problems ...

Cheers for the advice but I used the complete tool kit and made a back up that way.

[Q] Nandroid backup to another Vibrant

The screen on my vibrant lost all color so I had to get a replacement from TMO. I had the "old" phone rooted but still using the stock ROM and everything else.
Is there a way to transfer all my apps and user data to the new phone? I tried doing a Titanium Backup and a Nandroid backup. I saw a thread for a HTC Hero but the file names don't seem to carry over to the Vibrant.
When putting Titanium on the "new" phone, it does not recognize any backups, even though I moved it to the ext-sd using root explorer. Going into "Batch" in TB, it does not recognize any apps other than stock. I tried moving the TB backup to various areas of the SD card with no luck. Obviously, the "new" phone is rooted".
Using Nandroid, I backed up the ROM. I can see the folder with the 5 files within. Opening ROM Manager on the "new" phone and going to "Restore", it doesn't see any backup. Like with TB, I tried moving this folder around to see if it helped but didn't.
I even reverted back to stock (again) on the "new" phone using Odin but it still can't see any backups.
Sure, I can easily re-download all of my apps but the data will be lost. I feel like an idiot with this because it sounds so simple (and maybe I am), but I would appreciate any help using noob language. Thanks.
If you have a backup of your nandroid its pretty easy to retore it to your new phone . First install RomManager . Once you have RomManager installed you should have a folder named "clockworkmod" in this folder is a folder named "backup" . Now that we have these folder we can transfer our backed up nandroid to "backup" folder . Now reboot to clockworkmod and do and nandroid restore of that backup we just transfered . Remember to also flash the correct kernel for your backup .
TitaniumBackup works the same way just install TitaniumBackup and replace the "TitaniumBackup" folder with your backed up TitaniumBackup .
Click the Thanks button if this helped you
Thanks for the help. I just needed the correct folders.
Nandroid backups from CWM recovery goes to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
Try performing the restore from CWM recovery instead of ROM Manager.
Remember to have the matching kernel flashed before you perform the nandroid restore.
TB backups go to /sdcard/TitaniumBackup
Keep in mind /sdcard is the internal sd.

Click to collapse
TB backup folder replaces /sdcard/TitaniumBackup it does not go in that folder .

[Q] .android_secure backup issue.

Hello, when i try backup my current default ROM, everything goes fine until it reaches .Android_secure and says "Error while making a bacup of /sdcard/.android_secure!"
No idea whats wrong.
I've tried backing up via the ROM manager and the Nandroid method.
Using ROM Manager to backup is a nandroid backup... the back up you're referring to is just the app data you had installed on your SD card. Perhaps you can choose to restore the other partitions but leave out the android secure image...
Edit: Oh, I misunderstood your post. You're trying to back up... well, you could move the apps you have on your SD card back to your phone and then create the backup. That will eliminate the need for the android secure image.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Okay well I just removed the files in .android_secure (backed up onto PC)
and now i get an error while making a backup image of /cache -.-.

[Q] Can't restore a NANDROID backup!

Hello guys!
Recently I decided to flash a new ROM, and before that i made a nandroid backup with CWM. Backup was saved in /storage/extSdCard/clockworkmod/backup. After a new rom flashing, i didn't like it, so i decided to restore from my nandroid backup. When I open Rom manager app, and select to restore backup, my backup shows up, however, when I click restore, after booting to recovery menu, it says "can't mount backup path". I have rom manager CWM recovery v5.5.3.7.
What should I do? Is it possible to restore from PC?
Delete (please ignore)
have you tried to move your nandroid backup to the internal storage and restore from there?

gt-i9300 unable to restore efs from twrp backup

Hello
After flashing cm13 on my s3 my IMEI was lost. Now I can´t restore my efs folder with my TWRP backup.
I have the efs.ext4.win , efs.ext4.win.md5 and efs.info files but dont know how to restore them on my device.
Pleas help me !
Should be simple: tick restore, choose backup file, tick efs. Don't touch the single files.
I tried but twrp does not show the backup folder on the sd card.
Do i have to zip the backup folder ?
As I said: don't touch the backup-files. Did you store your backup on internal storage? You can change storage within backup /restore procedure.
No i stored them on the sd then ticked restore from sd.
Now i move it to the internal storage. Maybe tis works.
didn´t work ether
Means: TWRP doesn't find the backup?
create new backup using twrp (example boot partition) and copy to that folder yours efs files backup, its should work
or try restore using other recorvery arter97
