[Q] Prevent S Voice from starting when car docked? - TWO Workarounds Found - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

whenever I mount the phone to my car dock, S Voice comes on first! When it wasn't working on my Skyrocket, I just froze it and said screw this thing, but now that it works just fine on the SIII, every time I mount it to the car dock, I have to close out of it first before I can get Music up and running.... is there a work around for this to prevent it from coming on when mounted to the car dock I haven't thought of yet?
I quit using Tasker, it got to be too damn much on the phone, so I just use A2DP Volume to automate the connection - when I connect my car dock, it loads Music and adjusts BT volume for me, but it won't close an app on connection.... How can you prevent S Voice from coming up in the first place?
EDIT - I found these steps for turning off Voice Talk, the older version of Google's Voice Commands, and I'm going to give this a try. The motion part isn't applicable though, I think....
Try turning off DOUBLE TAP under Voice Talk settings.
Click on and bring up Voice Talk, then hit the bottom left button and click SETTINGS.
On the SETTINGS page, scroll down to the VOICE TALK section and click VOICE TALK SETTINGS.
On the next page, click on MOTION.
Next page, under MOTION ACTIVATION SERVICES, uncheck DOUBLE TAP.

WORKAROUNDS - We now have two workarounds to solve this problem.... Here they are:
If you like S Voice and just want to prevent it from starting up when car docked, use the Dock Nothingness app and select it by default the next time you car dock
If you don't like S Voice and want to block it completely, just freeze it with Titanium Backup and it won't run at all (PRO key must be installed for you to freeze and defrost apps)

Did you get anywhere with this problem - I'm in the same boat. What I'd really like is the old default car home to launch, but not getting s-voice (useless in my little convertible!) would be a great start!

Nope, but I think your issue would be easier to overcome since you can just download Car Home Ultra or something similar, I don't want any car home to launch at all, just the A2DP Volume app which will launch Google Music for me....
I have everything set like they said on the S Voice settings page, so it doesn't activate with a double tap home input, but it still comes up! Now that I have Tasker running as well, it asks if I want to use S Voice or Tasker, or either of them by default, and I don't want any of them, really! If I say Tasker, I believe it will do nothing, but that might interfere with A2DP Volume, and then I have to set Tasker to run A2DP Volume when it is car docked..... that's straight up going around in circles now!!!

I have the same problem... please fix! I do not like S Voice...

Nothing I can do about it, I'm definitely not a dev....
I selected Tasker by default when car docked and it seems to work just fine right now, I don't have any task set when the car is docked, but at least it recognizes Tasker will take priority when car docked instead of S Voice! That's the best work around I know of so far....

Sorry if I'm mentioning the obvious, but if you go into s voice in the applications manager is anything set in its 'launch by default' section? I don't have anything in there now, but that may be because I set my car-launcher as default on docking. I don't know if 'on dock' was in there before.

That's a good thought, but no, there are no defaults set on my phone either under that setting - it was worth a look though! I'm sure it's got to be something as easy as that though....

If you are rooted, why don't you just freeze svoice? I didn't like it so I froze it when I was freezing all of the carrier installed crapware (didn't want to uninstall it in case I actually get some of the features enabled).. freeze it and you will never see it again.. (I don't think I would risk deleting it since if it breaks something else it is easy enough to unfreeze/thaw the application)... this of course requires you to have titanium backup and pay for the elite license which gives you these features..
Double Home doesn't launch anything anymore.. although I never had a problem with it launching when going into car-mode.. I had turned that feature off...
I am still a noob with the andriod phone.. I had an iphone before this.. but am finding that I really like the flexibility of andriod over iphone..

It looks like we have a decent work around, posted by zen0s on the Infuse car dock thread:
zen0s said:
I just tried this and it works great. To get rid of that annoying "S Voice" pop up everytime when phone is docked. Go to play store and download "Dock Nothingness". After you install it dock your phone and make "Dock Nothingness" as your default app. Now you won't be bother with those s-voice launching.

I froze it using TiBU on my Skyrocket and that worked just fine because S Voice wasn't really working well with the phone, but now that I have an SIII, I want to use it when it is appropriate for me, not every time I dock the phone! So the two options stand, freeze it or run Dock Nothingness to prevent S Voice from starting up every time it is car docked!

Official Samsung Dock App Question

Hi,
I have a question about the dock.
When I plug the phone into it, the Samsung Home app gets launched. If I uninstall it, tuneIn gets launched.
Is there a way to set up the phone so no application is launched and it just goes to the Home screen?
I have tried clearing the defaults for tuneIn but it has none.
Thanks.
Try going to Manage Applications, Tunein, and clear data. Then dock, and it should ask what you want to launch. I don't see any way to NOT select something if you've got TuneIn loaded, though (I just tried it). I'd contact their support if clear data doesn't help.
FYI my alarm clock app does the same thing (Kaloer Clock) - their option to disable it doesn't seem to work on the i777, but I just hit home when it launches and deal with it 'cause I like it to much

I'll give it a shot tonight and see if it helps. The weird thing is that Clear defaults is disabled for TuneIn.
Thanks.
I had the same problem with TuneIn as OP. I think it is a bug in TuneIn.
A solution that worked for me was to install Dock No-Op. You can find it here.
Well, clearing data for TuneIn did not work but the No-Op did.
Funny to see a bunch of apps in the market like that one that do nothing
Now the strange problem I'm having is that ADW is going to a page to the right from my default when I drop it in the dock. Oh, well, that I can live with.
Thanks for the help guys.
I'm on CM7 and nothing launches. And it won't charge through the dock. Any idea why?
I'm not really sue. I am waiting for CM9 for my phone.
I use CM7 on my tablet and it charges fine with it's dock.
I hate to suggest this but can you try with a different ROM or phone to check if the dock is not the problem.

[Q] Problems with jelly bean update. Talk back in particular.

I updated to jelly bean last week. It came with talk back. trying everything I can think of, I have come to the conclusion that if anything else in accessibility is on, talk back come on too. I have a pebble watch, an love it. But when either it, or pebble notifier, it light wave is on, then the blasted voice tells me everything I am doing. It's very annoying. I tried stopping talkback with system tuner, which led to even worse problems. (like no touch screen function except with the s-pen.) Does anyone know how to get rid of talk back? Thanks in advance.

Root your phone, download an app for deleting system apps. delete it.
You can find how to root your phone in the development forums. Make sure you do it for the correct version of andriod ie:4.1.2

Disable it in settings/application manager/all applications. Find talkback and select uninstall updates. After updates are uninstalled go back into talkback from application manager, select force stop, then disable.
Right! Never delete a system app until you have disabled it or froze it with TiBU, then tested your phone fir a day or so. You never know how or what those apps are connected to.

True. Thats why I tried to disable it. And google text to speech. And Samsung text to speech. Each one stops it for a while. Then it comes back on even though it shows it is disabled. Its enough to make you start pulling out your hair.
If it says it is off then you are experiencing something else. What speech are you getting?

For me the issue was being caused by that fact that I have NoLED turned on in Accessibility. And it's a known issue with the developer of NoLED because he has a FAQ item about it. The best I've been able to do is get the talkback completely silent by disabling Talkback, Google Text to Speech and Samsung TTS. NoLED still works, and the nagging voice is gone, the only unwanted artifact is the HAND icon of Talkback that continues to show up in the Notification bar even though it's not running. I can live with that way easier than hearing that silly voice telling me everything I was doing.
For what it's worth I think the guides provided concerning rooting and rom upgrades for this phone are not as explicit or clearly written as they could be. Kudos to those who took time to do and provide what's there, and I realize that they've most likely moved on to newer devices, but even though I've rooted most of my devices in the past and am not a complete noob I did not feel comfortable using the provided instructions on this device. I haven't bricked a device yet, and don't want to start with this one.
Well, I'm not running no led. Whenever any of the services I use are active (pebble, or pepple notifier) are activated, talkback is activated. Like you, I have rpoted every device up to this one. Not really scared of bricking it. Just not sure a new rom would help. Contacted samsung, and was told it was a hardware problem. Like I'm an idiot. Obviously its in the software. Just not sure if it is samsung specific. Guess I'll just keep bumbling along with this work around.

FYI. You can get rid of the Talkback icon after each reboot by opening the notification bar, touch and hold Talkback, pick App Info, this will open into Settings App Info (for some reason), pick force stop and then the icon is gone until the next reboot.

Thanks. However, every time I have force stoped it, my touch screen will only work with the stylus. Touch input goes dead. And sometimes the touch alignment goes so that when you touch in one place, it refesters somewhere else. Guess I'll just live with the hand.

This whole Talkback feature appears to be filled with issues. I think I'll live with the hand (and not talk to it, lol), rather than risk more complications and further issue. So far I like Jellybean, but I hope that the next version of Android on Samsung devices fixes these issues.
As an aside, another thing that took me by surprise was the use of a new mountpoint for the external SD card. It took me a bit to figure out why /sdcard/external_sd was empty of files, but Music and other apps were able to see the data I had on the card. It's been awhile since my days as a UNIX SA and it dawned on me, literally in the middle of the night that perhaps the OS was using a different mountpoint. I was very relieved to find it under /storage/extSdCard and that my data was both there and able to be used.

Did you uninstall TalkBack (using something like Titanium BackUp) and not just disable it? If so, when you pick App Info from the Talkback notification does it open up the "Settings Version 4.1.2-I717UCMD3" app? If not It might be that we have different apps installed causing a different app to come up. If this is the case, would you mind trying going into Settings, Application Manager, All, Settings (the one with "Version 4.1.2-I717UCMD3", I have 2 Settings apps) and force stop that and see if that works.
I never uninstalled talkback. Since i haven't bothered rooting. forced stop defiantly gave me headaches, so I settled for stopping the text to speech of google and samsung. Running android 4.1.2. Ive seen on other posts where this is a samsung issue, and hopefully they are working on it. Looks like we have the same versions. Baseband i717ucmd3 with android version 4.1.2 \. Build # JZO54k.i717ucmd3. Force stopping just screws up my touchscreen, so I'll leave it enabled for now. Maybe Samsung will fix it, but I won't be holding my breath....

I too have a Pebble, and have had the issue with talkback showing up on every reboot. I had seen that it was a Samsung issue, so all I do is get rid of it on reboots. Just turn your Pebble Notifier, or I think any other accessibility app, off then back on. This will get rid of the hand, and thus far I have not had it talk to me at all. But I am running Padawan currently, so YMMV. To turn things off and on, just select the talkback notification from the bar to get into accessibility settings.
I ended up rooting for a couple of reasons. I had already frozen Google Text to Speech, Samsung Text to Speech, or whatever it's called, and the Talkback app but still had the hand. After rooting I was able to tap on Talkback in the pull down notification screen and turn off notifications of it. Strange that is was still there, but it worked and the hand hasn't been back.

[Q] LG Voice Recognition w/Bluetooth

I looked to see if anyone else was having this issue and found that there was not a thread for it yet. Instead of going into detail, I have simply posted my exchange with LG from online support, since it is all describe there.
David Miller: I preordered and now have an LG G3, which I think is a wonderful device, except for an issue that I have related to the LG voice recognition software. I am frequently in my car and use bluetooth. When I press the bluetooth button, I get the LG voice control software, "Say a Command." When I say a command, it is on the rare occassion that the software actually gets it right. Typically, it says, "command not recognized" to something as simple as "call mom mobile," or when it asks whether I want to call mom mobile and I say yes, it also says command not recognized.
David Miller: The other thing that I noticed is that it is more likely to get the command correct if I do not wake the software by bluetooth, but instead wake the phone and unlock the screen.
David Miller: I previously got the advice to restore factory settings, which I did. No improvement.
Frank: i understand
David Miller: Google Now seems to recognize my commands with no issues whatsoever.
David Miller: Also, the ok genie command doesn't seem to work.
Frank: in this case i can escalate the issue
Frank: to have an update pushed out to solve this issue.

Not a clue unfortunately. Couldn't even do it with my previous Nexus phone. Google had the dialer attached to the bluetooth rather than Google Now. It completely limited the actions that you could perform with bluetooth, but at least it recognized my command to call.

You can setup Google Now to record through bluetooth.
Touch the microphone, then the settings. Now choose "voice" .
Now go to the bottom of the page and select "Bluetooth Headset".
Now select "OK Google Detection" and select all the boxes.
You should be good.
OK Google would work everywhere and through the BT headset.

Same issue and I'm SO dissapointed. Upgraded from an S4...and today I get on my motorcycle, paired just fine, pressed the button on my Sena SMH10, and heard nothing for about 10 minutes. Stopped at a light, pulled out my phone, and Voice Command was still "initializing". Put it back in my pocket, and then a few minutes later it scared the crap out of me yelling "Say a command!!!". I said "play music" and it wanted to call someone. I said "No", and it didn't recognize my command. What a POS!
I need the ability to send texts, make calls, play music (select artist or album, etc.).
Really upset... I guess I'll try to disable it and use OK Google, but I know already that when I say "play music" its going to be streaming stuff and not using my local music.
If anyone finds a fix for this, please let me know.

This is going to sound a bit odd, but I think that the phone is not initially using the bluetooth mic, but instead that on the phone. When I have the phone near my mouth after hitting the bluetooth button, it seems to get my commands right. I sent an email to LG customer support to see if they have any fixes in the works.
VoiceCommand 1.1.1
HERE'S ANOTHER WORKAROUND BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO MANUALLY PUT PHONE BACK TO SLEEP AFTER USING....
I am using the Jawbone IconHD, shouldn't matter but It works.
Must Be Rooted, Must have Titanium Backup!!
1.Download VoiceCommand https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.itdevcrowd.voicecommand
2. Open TB, find Voicecommand 1.1.1 - Tap it - swipe to the left - scroll down to CONVERT TO SYSTEM APP
3. Put phone to sleep, hold down button on Headset.....Google Now
FOR WHATEVER REASON THIS WORKAROUND WILL OVERRIDE THE "DIM AND PUT TO SLEEP AFTER SO MANY MINUTES" BUT AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT WAKE PHONE WITH BT BUTTON, PHONE WILL GO BACK TO SLEEP AS USUAL
NoI installed Bluetooth Launcher yesterday, to use with my hbs-800 headset, now get Google now voice actions instead of lg.
The font is ridiculously small on a g3; if you have an HDMI output adapter, use it, to select Google search, them the second voice actions option in the sublist that opens.
I can now use commands like Call, weather in, directions to, start, ...
I'll check out voice command, sounds like it gets to the same result, but without futzing with the selection window.
I didn't know TB had the promote to system app function. Thanks!
I second this app. No frills, but very useful. Can set the button on your headset to launch whatever you like, including Google Now voice launcher. Works great.

Anyhow, I'm enjoying BT launcher. The one thing I would love is to find a working widget to turn GPS on or off, so I could use "start gpstoggle" as a spoken command. So far the only one I've seen that actuality does this is the GPS part of power toggles, and there is no way to split that element off as a standalone commandable action. Everything else I've tried just acts as a shortcut to the Locations tab, you still have to then press the on/off button.
i have the same problem!

If anyone has experienced this issue and has found a solution, please post here. Thanks.[/QUOTE
I am having the exact same issues, all other v commands work except the LG phones v command for placing call and or opening apps. I hope someone will correct this quickly otherwise I will have to go back to my Motorola, I really like the LG with this exception but it is a serious issue because I really need to be totally hands free.

On my Verizon LG G3, I followed the directions in this thread to disable the "Voice Command" app from within the Application Manager and I ensured that "Bluetooth Headset" was on from within the Google Settings app under the "Voice" menu. When I press the Bluetooth button in my Toyota Tacoma, it now calls up the Google app which prompts me for a voice instruction. These steps eliminate LG's crappy Voice Command app. :victory:

My D855 with stock ROM is completely unresponsive to the Bluetooth push button.
I set the:
Google -> Search -> voice -> Hands free -> Allow Bluetooth request on locked screen
Google -> Search -> voice -> Record from Bluetooth
The oldest firmware I tried was STOCK ROM v21A.
I am not alone with this problem:

May be an older Android version triggers Voice recognition from Bluetooth.

[Q] Car Mode?

Does anyone know if there is an official Moto car mode app for this phone?
What do you mean car mode? If you look in the moto app there is driving mode which will do things automatically when you start driving.
I was wondering if they had something that changed the home screen to only show driving focused features like navigation. Something similar to what they did with the OG Droid, and I think last years Moto X.
Driving mode is it. It'll do a lot for you, but doesn't change the homescreen.
You want a dashboard app, then. Those don't come pre-installed here.

Thank you guys! I guess I'll look for a dashboard app. Any suggestions on a good one?
This one looks the most polished. Many of them look years old.

Thanks!
I use the original Google car home app. It does everything I need it to do. You have to create an icon with Nova to open the app first. But, I have it setup to turn on when my phone connects to my cars bluetooth. This option is in the car home settings.

Ok Google not working from lock screen or screen off

I went into google now search settings and performed the voice training and enabled the option for hot word detection from lock screen and power off but it doesn't work. the only time it works is when i'm at the home screen UNlocked OR at the google now search area. Screen off or from lock screen detection simply does not work.
does anyone else notice this?
I don't have the nexus 9 but I did install the latest google now search and launcher from apkmirror .com and there was an always listening option in 'hotword detection' in voice settings of the google now. There was also the screen off detection option but it was greyed out. I had the always listening in all apps option enabled and it was working greatly but the next day I woke up and the feature wasn't working so I went into settings and discovered that both of those options had disappeared (not greyed out but freaking disappeared), its some kind of google restriction, they are remotely restricting users from using these features for some unexplained reason.
Maybe its the same for u or it might be something else.
Same here, bit worked arter reboot
It works for a while after a reboot, but eventually stops working after a couple hours.
Looks like a common bug, I've seen some threads about this same issue (and I'm experiencing the same problem, too)
Ok, let's hope Google is on it

Is it supposed to work on the N4? (I mean when screen off).

think about it...you're in your car, the screen times out and you want to make a call using voice recognition....so you have to unlock the screen and then use the voice recognition... sounds like a dangerous bug to me....serious liability IMHO

I know, but the N4 doesn't support the neccessary hardware for this feature. Only the N6 and N9 does.

when I initially set it up, IT DID WORK....but then after a few hours, days (dunno for sure) it stopped. voice recognition works from google now screen, or the home page fine. something not right somewhere...
Hmm. From locked screen? Strange. Absolutely sure?

there is an option in Google Now -> Settings -> Voice -> OK google detection ....a check box exists here stating:
When Locked
Allow "OK Google" to start a voice search or action from a secure lock screen
so, it would seem that this is what was intended. perhaps what they meant here was that the screen has to be on and not timed out. dunno.
Yes, but screen has to be on. Only nexus 6 and 9 support GN with screen locked and off
Google search from locked screen works for a while and then stops. It's done this on my s4 and note 3. It is defenetly supposed to work from secure lock screen. In Google now settings there is a 3rd check box and you even get a warning stating anyone may be able to unlock your phone.
Google needs to fix this issue. I'm not sure what's up with these companies making screwed up software. Where are the devs, and why are they getting paid if they can't make flawless software. When I crash My car into a tree trying to unlock my phone and I press a law suit against google I'll bet they will fix it. Always takes a law suit to fix ****.
Oh. Anyone notice every app you've ever paid for or downloaded is under my apps "all" what's up with "all" I'll file my documents in my office under the "all" folder and see how quickly I get fired...Thanks for allowing me to rant.
Happy new year!
