Is it just me or is anybody else having a problem with weak wifi signal on their phones? I know its not my router or connection because on my g note i always had at least 3 bars and speed test always gave me a constant speed of 10-11mbps. But now on my tmobile s3 i barely have a wifi signal shows 1 bar , and my wifi calling even says you are almost out of coverage area. And speed test is only giving me 2-4 mbps??
Anybody else also expirencing this? Any fixes, do you think there is something wrong with my phone, should i pay the restocking fee and return it?
Mine is actually better than gnote i had on att. My wife's gs3, she said wifi speed is faster on gs3 than her previous s2 skyrocket. We are VERY pleased by these awesome phones.

Same here. Although the speed is amazingly fast, the signal reception is worse than that of my iPhone and iPad. Is there a fix to this? Other than that, this device is exceptional.

Looks good on mine so far. Speedtests gave me 30M on my 50M connection
Well I just rooted my s3 and reset and re connected my wifi. Seems to be doing much better I now get at least 2bars sometimes three and speed test is showing 6-7mbps which is better.
But dang 20mbps you guys have some fast wifi. I'm jealous

Mine seems fine compared to my other devices (ipad 3, SGSII, iphone4) but I am also rooted not sure if that affects it somehow or not. But no complaints here on signal strength or speed

The wifi signal isn't so bad that I'd call it weak(my Transformer Prime is WEAK), but it's not so great. Depending on what phone you were using before the gs3, it may seem weak though. I use different devices alot, and the gs3 is not the best or worst when it comes to wifi. The gs2 has great wifi, the Galaxy note soes too. The prime is terrible, and the gs3 is probably slightly better than the sensation in my opinion. I'm upstairs with the router downstairs, and I get 10mbps, but right in front of the router I get 30+. I've also noticed that it can depend on how I'm holding the phone. It never knocks the signal out, but it does weaken it when I'm using it in landscape. Maybe you could move your router to more central location?

My wifi is pretty good, better reception than my Android phone.
Mine seems the same as before which is just fine. It does better than my Droid charge for sure.

Wifi was great before ICS and is still great afterwards. Better reception than my T-bolt.
I can be outside in the yard on the opposite side of my house from the router and still get 3 bars and great speeds. I guess I just got lucky.

I've been holding off on the Prime due too all the talk about bad wifi speeds and range. Are you guys saying that it is actually not an issue? I don't care about the GPS that much, even though it has been horribly handled by Asus. But wifi is a "make it or break it" part of the product for me. Is it worse than the TF101? I have seen a lot of posts that it is worse, but you guys say that it is really good.

No real improvements here. Just about the same. I'm going to change my router's 2.4 Ghz band back to combined b/g/n as opposed to isolated g (which helped my Prime a LOT) to test out if ICS truly helped at all.
I'm on ICS and just switched to g only from a/b/g/n, and my speed greatly improved, so it doesn't seem that ICS made a difference in that regard. Wish I knew why using g only helps so much with the speed on the Prime. I'm in an apartment complex with many signals, and I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it.

I'm finding that I get an extra bar indicated, but I don't think it's really any better or worse with ICS.
My experience has been a bit odd with it. As far as the signal indicator goes, my wifi reception SEEMS worse than on Honeycomb. However, I haven't lost signal at all and my speeds are great.
Overall, I'd say it's about the same, but the indicator seems to fluctuate much easier.
Same as before (which is still weak), but it is still not as good as any of my laptops, Skyrocket, Blackberry, or iPhone.
I'm actually getting better wifi range to my router.

Interesting. I'm going to do some research into whether being near so many other wireless signals may have something to do with g only performing better than a/b/g/n when I get a chance. Then again, devices like my laptop and iPad1 pull the same speed regardless of whether my router is set to g only or a/b/g/n...ugh.
I'm using a D-Link DIR-655, which is not a dual band router.

Mine is by far worse!
I barely even have a chance to tell before my Prime reboots. But it shows it as having a poor signal even when I'm right next to it and it never actually connects. Just says obtaining IP address.
With honeycomb my phone (evo 3d) would get more reception, it could see networks the prime wouldn't. Since the update my prime not only sees all the networks its getting great speeds even on the weak ones.
Same after ICS, which is good.
It's about the same for me. But I had some issues with rebooting at first, but now it is better.

Go into the WiFi settings, "forget" the network, and then reconnect. I had a similar issue after the ICS update on my home network and this fixed it for me.
Also, people shouldn't rely on the number of bars the WiFi indicator in the bottom right has. I've found this to be very inaccurate, and almost useless. I've had no bars or one bar and pulled in speeds just as good as when I had 2 or 3 bars. Instead of basing your assumptions on this, use the speedtest.net app and the wifi analyzer app.
So what is consider as weak wifi?!.
I've recently got my prime and have been testing the wifi of the prime to my sg2 and vibrant...
Standing next to my router i get about -45dBm while my sg2 gets like -33dBm. The dl speed is also slightly faster on the sg2. Then when i compared the signal to my vibrant....my vibrant gets about -45 to -50dBm.
So just curious is that normal? Or weak? Or any other opinions...

Don't feed into all that weak wifi hype. If you even have to ask then that means your device is performing fine. OR YOU won't even notice anything unless someone tells you its bad n starts making you think that.
Base it off of performance, not what Tom, ****, n Jane tell you..lol
Try running the same test on the same devices but move farther away and test each result. the "common" problem is the rate at which the wifi looses strength is roughly around 20'. But this is all based on individual results i have read. Others claim there are no issues or problems. To each their own.
My question for you is, When and where was yours purchased from? Im curious if the newer purchases are as common to show issues.
For me it's pretty simple to prove.
From family rooms and bedrooms I can get 16Mbps.
From kitchen and dining room I get 2Mbps, while the iPad right beside pulls in 16Mbps still.
I used wifi analyzer to find what channel was best in G band than configured my router to it and my prime pulls the same or better numbers than my SGII, daughters iphone4s and wifes Kindle fire. All devices have better speedtest results since I switched to channel 1 on G band I wish I would have known this along time ago because places that I previously had weak or no wifi now have a strong signal.The configuring router thing has been posted hundreds of times on this forum

My experience is pretty similar. Near the router, all devices get a pretty fast download speed, above 11 Mbps using Speedtest. Farther away, at about 20-25 feet, Prime slows to 10% of that, while the other devices are still up near 11 Mbps.
Don't go looking for problems. If it is running fine for you and seems fast why try to get technical about whether it is weak or not.
I brought mines recently on the 21st of Jan.
For mines wifi seems okay when compare with other devices when there is no/few obstacles...ie i get the same speed but different signal strength when Im on the lobby of my neighbors(1 house away) while my router is on the 3rd floor.
But when Im in the lobby within my building my prime gets very weak signal and often disconnect while my sg2 remain connected with 2-3 bars and about 4-5mb dl

Maybe you are checking WiFi close to the router? Most folks that report WiFi problems (including me) report that near the router is fine, but that 20 feet or more away, the Prime's download speed is WAY less than other devices. (my Prime is about 10% of other devices at distance.)
Yep, standing right beside the router I can get 30Mbps. This is in the basement. I live in a large bungalow. Standing right above the router on the first floor I can get about 18Mbps and then it drops from there and very quickly. In the dining room, which is main floor but about 30-40 linear ft distance from the router, the speed drops to 2Mbps.
I just purchased a sprint samsung galaxy S2. I'm not impressed with the web browsing speed everyone talks about on all the reviews. I recently downloaded speed test app on my wife's iphone 4 and my s2. Initially, my wife's iphone 4 blew mine out of the water. Her avg. speed was 9.0mbps whereas my avg. speed was a dismal, 0.50mbps. I then realized that her iphone 4 had the wifi on, where mine was turned off. I then turned my wifi on and recorded much higher results, avg. 9.0mbps. My quesion is, should I have to have the wifi on to gain these speeds? I thought the speeds the writers were refering to on the reviews were taken while working off the networkand not utilizing wifi. This is one of my main reasons I was considering returning the S2 for the iphone 4s but now that I can reach these download speeds, I'm considering keeping it. However, I'm still confused about the wifi having to be on. Can anyone please explain? Thank you in advance

Network coverage varies so much from place to place that no-one can ever promise you anything, regardless of provider or device. You'll get a better signal outside than inside, so take that as an indication of how unreliable data signals actually are. If you regularly have access to wifi then use that as much as possible. It's obviously faster and it's not part of your monthly usage so you won't get charged extra for using it. It obviously depends on where you live and how much wifi coverage you have. I know people that are nearly always within reach of wifi, both in and out, so they have good speeds all the time. I suffer from living in an area where the coverage isn't too good. I do occasionally get full HSPA+, but it's usually a couple of bars of 3G. No phone would change that though, so I have a phone I like, regardless of crappy coverage.
It will also depend on if they were connected to 4G as well. Being that it didn't say 3G or WiFi on the reports you saw it could have been 4G, 3G, or WiFi. I personally leave my phone WiFi all the time even though it is only connected when I'm at work or home. There is no 4G in my area so that isn't even a factor for me. The speeds do vary quite a bit when out and about being that it is only on 3G and the radio in the Epic Touch isn't the strongest and at times doesn't get signal where other Sprint phones do but that is the same with everything, you gotta take the good with the bad. For me it doesn't go so slow that it is unbearable but I do wish it would be quicker at times. That is deffinetly a downfall to having Sprint is the lack of coverage.

Since no one else noted it, the Sprint Galaxy S2 is not this phone (i9100), but the Epic 4g Touch. Which has a separate forum.
Also, if it isn't obvious, if wifi is on, then it will use your wifi connection. If not, it will use your phone carrier's mobile data network. If sprint is only giving you 0.5mbps on their "4g" network, then that's on sprint.

I'm a bit superficial when it comes to my phones and I'm not a fan of the plastic bodies used by Samsung. The HTC One, as you know, has an amazing build quality and, when you hold the phone, you get a sense of the premium materials used in its construction. The screen clarity is tops and the speakers sound quite good. I love nearly everything about this phone but I just ordered a plastic-laden Galaxy S4, due to issues with LTE reception one the One. Upon purchase, I noticed right away that this phone shows 1-2 fewer bars of LTE signal, everywhere, when compared to my Note 2. I figured it was just the graphical representation of signal strength that was off but then I noticed that the One spent far more time on HSPA than the note 2. Using G Net Track, I observed RSSI readings ~20dBm lower than my Note 2. These observations were made over time, with the phone stationary on my desk. The signal strength indicator and the RSSI readings confirmed that the HTC One I purchased suffers from poor LTE reception. I'm quite irritated that HTC missed with this device; I was very much hoping they would hit a home run with the One.
Has anyone else noticed LTE reception problems with their phone?
I have amazing 4g coverage I'm on tmobile I came from Verizon I am currently in south fl might be your area ? This might be a stretch but it feels like I have better 4g coverage on tmobile or it could just be that I love the phone

I have One, Nexus 4, iPhone 5, they all have the exact signal level at any given location. Unless you're blocking the antenna causing attenuation.
Also, you should be monitoring RSRP and RSRQ. Not RSSI if you're on LTE. Get SignalCheck Pro and do some testing.
When I moved I stopped in Kansas City (one of T-Mobile's LTE markets) and I had no problems with LTE reception.
Even with 2 bars on LTE. My speed is excellent.

Have you ever seen full LTE signal on your One? In areas where my Note 2 had four bars, my One has only two. Maybe I just received a lemon and an exchange will remedy the issue.

I'm a bit concerned as well about LTE signal strength. I'm on only a single signal bar 90% of the time. I've only seen up to 3 bars only once. My speeds seem okay though, I am hitting 30mb down with only the 1 signal bar. My main concern is battery drain due to the weak signal.
I get awesome HSPA signal though, full bars almost everywhere. I'm tempted to just turn LTE off as HSPA speed here is still awesome.
BTW, I am in the Phoenix/Tempe market.

That's pretty much what I'm experiencing. I have a Galaxy S4 arriving tomorrow - I'll be sure to take networks measurements on both devices to compare performance of the two.

Same market, same signal as you. I think it's our coverage area though as I watch signal when I'm driving around the valley a lot and it def hits 4 or 5 bars of lte....but only right up against the towers....regardless I get great speeds though

If when mine arrives here in Taipei it shows lower bars I will take it in personally to their HTC office here in Taipei and ***** about it. Will try same SIM card in different smartphones to show differences If needed but will need to test first.
I don't quite understand what standard is to be expected. Is anything less of 30mb down on a cell phone really that unacceptable? I suppose it's reasonable if you're using hotspot for a laptop, but are we just talking about apps downloading data?
It might be that HTC didn't do well with function over form with the One in terms of signal reception. But I guess this may be the sacrifice you'll have to make.
Have you guys run speed tests rather than judging by signal bars alone? I've found that although my One displays two bars at my gym for "4g", I get completely crap signal, and can barely send out a Google voice text.. I've yet to run a speed test to see what exactly I'm getting in terms of d/u speeds.

I have just received my HTC One yesterday. LTE is limited where I am, but when I have reached an area where LTE was available, I had full bars on mine. This was in Cupertino, CA.

That was my experience, going from a Note 2 to the One. I returned the One and picked up an S4 - much better LTE service. I did a side by side evaluation of LTE performance on the One vs the S4. Using the Speedtest.net app, I was consistently pulling 13Mbps using the One. I placed my SIM card into the S4 and consistently pulled 23Mbps. I switched the SIM back to the One and couldn't break 14Mbps. Yes, I selected the same server on both phones. Sadly, the One appears to have LTE issues.
I will be just happy when LTE actually goes live in my city. My HSPA+ speeds are really good. I just did a speedtest and go 18Mbps on my One and 13Mbps on my S4.

That is correct. Both phones were displaying "4g LTE" during the tests.

I did have 2G at work when I was on my V10, but when on my Note 4, I had LTE signal, wonder if it is the bands used in the V10

Mine does fine in areas where I had excellent signal, but in areas where I was weaker, not poor, but just weaker, it's all downhill now. Ping tests taking 3000+ ms. Download speeds at .01mbps where it was 30mbps on the G4. Then it will go from 4g to nothing, the 2g, then E. Its all over the place.
I have noticed this as well at my house. Phone goes into emergency call mode all the time. Wifi calling always drops calls and says I'm going out of range sitting right next to the router. Had to turn it off cause it was worthless, but the signal is terrible as well. Only had problems in one back corner of the basement in my house with the Note 4. V10 I can lose signal at anytime anywhere in the house.

I bought a Netgear Nighthawk X8 to replace the T-Mobile router I'd be returning for the 4G LTE Cellspot but have heard there's issues. Wish I knew more about it and if it was going to be fixed. Was looking forward to having good signal at my home. T-Mobile has been saying 4G LTE has been coming for 2 years. Last reply was they are testing and will be on by end of this year, fingers crossed.
Definitely have issues with signal. Hoping it's a software fix. Afterall this id's the first phone with the Qualcomm Antenna

You may want to exchange for a new phone, see if you get the same results. Of those who responded, I believe you are the only Verizon customer, and of the others on this thread it looks like some T-Mobile users and one on AT&T. I'm going to get a V10 later this week, as long as I get a little better than my current phone signal wise I'll be happy.
Mine is actually on t-mobile. I'm okay with swapping it out but I don't want a refurb. I should go talk to my store this weekend and see what they'll do

My signal is way better at work than when I had my g3.
Mine is decent, not quite as good as my Nexus 6 but it isn't to far off
I'm going to swap mine this week and see if it gets better. Like someone said I don't want a refurbished and I hope they don't charge me for restocking fee. How would I know if it's a refurbished one they can't just give me one without telling me can they?

If ur within ur 14 days it will be a new one, not refurbed. Refurbs will say where the battery goes.
Got my V10 yesterday. At home I'm getting mostly 3G, sometimes 4G. I'll get one to three bars depending on the time of day, phase of the moon, and the amount of coffee I've had. This is about the same as I had with my BlackBerry for the last couple of years. The "city" here always has people fighting cell phone tower installations for years now. I've been told they are allowing Verizon to put some micro towers on some utility poles sometime "soon" because they have to comply with some sort of Federal law. I was hoping it would be better, but it's not worse either, plus my fingerprint reader works with a case......still have 12ish days to test things out.
I am getting much better speed with this phone then I did with my G3 on AT&T.
On my V10 now from AT&T. I also noticed both Cell and Wi-Fi connections are weaker than with my Samsung galaxy s5...it's weaker (about 65% where s5 was 90%+) but at least it maintains Wi-Fi connection unlike the S5. I especially notice it when streaming music. I do show on 4g LTE most of the time but never had more than 3/5 bars...I hope they can fix in an update.
I think mine is OK with LTE. You can force LTE or LTE/WCDMA

RAT Selection
I am using a VZW version with my TMO sim and this is the first VZW 2 TMO phone I have used (used a z3v, note 3 and note 4 from VZW on my tmo sim) that does not get 4gLTE. Its very rare that the 4gLTE lights up. Its usually at H or H+ which isnt too bad but id rather have LTE. Hopefully its a SW fix soon.
I`ve got poor reception too. I am on a carrier outside U.S.
Many drop call and ping time is long. Fail to send or receive data. Have to enter flight mode to fix the problem.
I exchanged my T-Mobile V10 a couple days ago and signal is better now. I think my other one has a bad radio.
