Recovery version confusion - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys these days I'm doing a lot of flash
So I'm getting confused with the recovery versions:
Now I have cynogen 9 with ClockworkMod recovery 5.8.4.5
1) Is it the latest version or 5.5.0.4 - "v1.5" which is installed by cf 6.3 is newest?
2) I read that the Touch recovery 5.8.4.5 has bugs in performing the backup/ restore so is recommend to install the 5.8.4.3;
I've the NO TOUCH version of 5.8.4.5,so what should I do?
3) If I install cf6.3 having "RomManager" and "Superuser" in the cyano what happens to these two app?:
-they are replaced by "CWMmanager" and "SuperSu" ?
-or should I uninstall them first, to allow the installation of these last two ?
I hope someone can help me.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for any mistakes of language

You're confusing CF-Root with ClockworkMod Recovery.
CWM Manager gets its own app, so if you have Rom Manager at the same time, if you're upgrading from another you can either remove it or not use it.

Better not use ROM Manager, you will **** up

I dont know if it will actually cause you a problem but i've seen Chainfire state various times that Rom Manager is incompatible with CF-Root for i9300 and to use CWM Manager instead.

Its in the instructions if you use Chainfires CF root method .

Well, that doesn't tell me anything. Maybe I'll send him a message to find a more about this.

Ace bricked.

Well, I am posting this behalf of my friend....
He had ClockWorkMod Recovery installed and Rooted his Ace on a stock firmware...
Just a few mins back he installed the ROM Toolbox app from the market.
After installing and running the app, the app told him to restart his phone and after that the phone is stuck on the "S5830" logo....
He is able to get into Recovery Mode, and also tried wiping everything but hes still stuck on that logo
Please help.
Kind of urgent...

Yeah, I had that in my mind too but my friend is unable to flash right now, so any other alternatives?
no backup?
if CWM is working properly try to flash again the ROM zip and do the full wipe...
as u said he tried to wipe but still stuck, odin is the only solution now.

Hmmmm...
Well if Odin is the only chance now I guess thats how I am gonna need to do it....
Is there anyone else here that has used ROM Toolbox and bricked their Ace?
Cause I used it on Samsung Galaxy 3 and it did not cause any problems....
No, I'm aware of every single app that has "ROM" in its name. If you know what I mean.

If he used ROM Manager to install CWM, then it can't be repaired :/
I mean, ROM Manager is very dangerous for Ace. Many people have bricked their phone by using it. It may be compatible with Galaxy 3 but on Ace, it's DANGEROUS

I am talking about "ROM ToolBox".....
Not ROM Manager....
Everyone know that ROM Manager can brick the phone....
If you still hav recovery then chill.. Just do a standard cwm flash..

use odin! don't make your Ace cry
ROM Toolbox still partially has ROM Manager.....
I use it for convenience to build.prop editing though
Herpderp Defy.
Install Lewa ROM . Atleast you are able to get into CWM recovery

I am not sure the cwm will work. You can try it. Both phones are very similar and recovery is overwritten on reboot, so no permanent change to phone. Let me know on corresponding thread if it works

The temporary CWM recovery should be fine.
Don't try to use any kernels with CWM recovery built in that are meant for the I9100 on an I9100G though. It won't work, and you'll likely have a boot loop, or get stuck on the boot screen.

you could have rooted with cf-root 6.5 instead...it includes CWM, otherwise google clockwordmode recovery and download the recovery and flash it with odin, simple as that!
I googled it but there's only one for Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300), While mine is a GT-19305, Can I use CWM for 19300 on 19305?

So TWRP over cwmr?? I haven't tried twrp yet cause I'm fairly new to all this still. I'm rooted but weary of using cwmr to flash roms and end up bootlooping or something and weary of twrp cause I haven't tried it yet.. apologies for the redundancy.

[Q] quick question about flashing kernels

OK so I have a quick question about flashing kernels. I want to flash a new kernel for better battery life I know I do that in my recovery like a ROM. But what does it mean to fix permissions and where do I fix them at and how do I fix them?

The instructions should tell you where and what to change. Then use Root Explorer to browse to the file or directory and change it. Although most kernels are flashed via Odin as far as I know and am used too.

What kernels have you been flashing through Odin??? Only one I can think of is the pre-release one for 2 mins while you unlock the phone.
I've been doing all mine through TWRP. So far used faux's and KToonez's kernels
