Sony tablet s probably getting jelly bean - Sony Tablet S

Hi guys I wrote to Sony asking about plans on upgrading to jelly beans our tablet and this was the answer I got:
Thank you for contacting Sony Support.
I understand that you want to upgrade the Android from Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwitch) to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Regretfully, due to all the variables involved with, testing, manufacturing, and distribution, we are not able to provide any definite release dates. However, the update will be available very soon and you will be notified with the notifier in the Tablet.

So maybe we could be seeing and update at the end of the year (maybe)

This is awesome news, good to see Sony do care about their customers. I would like to see the wifi issues addressed (Does anyone else have issues with their wifi?) apart from that the Sony Tablet S still has a lot of potential in the market, great price and awesome experience! Thanks for this update gssbzn!

No wifi issues here its says low signal sometimes but been perfect so far

Great news
Well that is good news. I recently bought the tab and I love every bit of it. Haven't had any wireless issues. I really hope when sony releases the next update they also enable this device to control PS3. In my opinion that's the major hurdle right now in realizing the full potential of this device as a media controller.

No Wi-Fi issue even before the upgrade.

I know what you mean with the wifi issue - you are connected (wifi icon is present and blue and wifi says 'connected') but basically you have no communication.
somebody recommended "advanced wifi lock", free from Google Play and I'm running that now, so far it seems to fix it.

I'm very happy with my Tablet S, I have had the wifi stall on occasion but a quick off/on fixes it for me, think its happened no more than 5-6 times since I got the tablet.
I'm just hoping to root my official ICS and get write access to the sdcard, I've tried an unofficial CM10 rom on my Motorola Atrix and Jelly Bean with Google Now is definitely a mobile experience.......
But I'll take a Tablet S update for sure.

Splashtop keep getting drop connection?

My connection keep getting drop everytime when i tried to stream a show from my laptop for 20min. Any one else with this issue? suggestions? thx
i Was getting something similar mate. But when playing games over it on the Wifi sometimes it drops randomly. Noted though my router is a hog. Its made by virgin so its ultimatly "****"
yea thats what i thought at first but i brought another router and the problem still there
However the good news is that Nvidia are building a new Spalashtop THD version for the tegra 3. They showed it at CES and it was awesome. Albeit it wont be as awesome over the net, but on local WIFI it will be wicked fast.
Here is the Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nyg2kZfF5A
Not sure how long we will be waiting, but I'm pretty sure if you keep an eye on the nvidia store we might see it pop up in the future.

OP: Do you have GotoMeeting installed on the host machine? Is windows setup to receive Remote Desktop connections?
I have the same problem, and I'm wondering if we have similar setups. I haven't had time to to play around with installing and uninstalling, but there may be a conflict going on.
I get a great connection on local as i should, but on non-local i get dropped signal too.
I read a support page from splashtop and their answer was "You have too many devices connected to the network"
Seems like they have a major design flaw or don't know what the hell they are talking about..
My name is Optimus Prime and I send this message..
I have had the same problem from day 1. It will work for a good 15 minutes.. then disconnect. Then maybe it will work 2 minutes before disconnecting. Very random. Found this on their website.

Mine has been on always since day one, I suppose. JUST found the "Advanced" setting - lol. And it still disconnects.
Are you using the one that came preinstalled in MyCloud, or did you download it free from Amazon?
I am using the free one from Amazon - and it just disconnected twice in 4 minutes. Haven't tried the apparently older MyCloud version.

Well, tried that, and disconnected in about 4 minutes. I do like the look of the MyCloud version - having the Asusesque feel.
Anyway, it didn't work for me - but thanks for the suggestions! May work for someone else.
Brad
i'm waiting for a fix on this as well I'm actually using splashtop remotely to post this, but i get d/c every few minutes. I cant watch my lecture
yea im having the same issue on the my cloud version...i dont know if there's any difference but it happens even if I'm just browsing around on my desktop (not streaming music/video) sometimes happens quickly and often and sometimes it takes awhile...but it is constant..there isn't one time where I haven't been kicked...rather annoying...hopefully there is a fix...and this happens when I am connected to my home wifi (my desktop is directly connected to router via cat6) and when I am on some other network.
My network during the times I am using my cloud consists of my desktop, my tablet, and my phone active..all other wifi devices are turned off.
Any fix for this yet? I still have the same issues
Waiting for a fix here too.
I am also experiencing this problem, is there no fix.
I figured out this issue a while back (regarding the MyCloud version in particular) and there is no good news. The version bundled with MyCloud is a version that was released before the ICS fixes for Splashtop. If you goto the Google Play link for Splashtop or Splashtop HD and look through the changelog, you will see the following...
Splashtop Remote Desktop HD
Code:
v1.9.8.6
Fixed continuously disconnect issue on Ice Cream Sandwich issue
Splashtop Remote Desktop
Code:
Support Ice Cream Sandwich
These changes are both listed under the most current versions. Sadly the version that comes with MyCloud is version 1.1.0.6 r11494 and I do not believe that any of the ICS fixes are included in this version, therefore the only way to use the free MyCloud version without disconnects is to never upgrade to ICS. There is of course the other option, you could just purchase the THD version which was basically built for our tablets (I do not regret purchasing myself).

Xperia Go Bugs in official Rom

Hey all,
I recently bought an Xperia Go and updated it to the latest FW
and now a couple of bugs present themselves.
the goal of this thread is to list them and/or list solutions
* laggy launcher
* a lot of widgets aren't supported or simply don't work
* no notification bar settings at all
* Wifi issue's ( more Xperia phones have this, reported to have something to do with the Wpa_supplicant )
(all my keyboard issues where solved by installing JB keyboard)
For the people who still have problems with the laggyness of the phone:
try Munjeni's Kernel and Pimp My Rom (use the different android_upgrade package and only the volume buttons NOT the screen! )
An update from sony has been reported
Proof
hopefully this wil resolve some issues
to be continued
My bugs:
* WalkMate doesn't count steps or count it incorrectly; allways below 50 steps (even when Extended battery is off)
* Camera viewer quality is bad on 5 mpx resolution (when I take pictures they are excellent)
Upgraded my xperia go to ics official stock rom and wifi doesn't work anymore? Anyone with the same problem? Any solutions ?

That's not acceptable, seeing that WPA2 is a widely-used standard in academic and commercial environments for WiFi encryption.
Hi.
I have tried ICS official stock from Sony Update Service, yesterday.
1. Laggy
2. Drain my battery, 20 - 40% faster that it did in GB
3. Bad performance, laggy and more laggy.
4. My Xperia Active with ICS are much more faster and smoother.
Back to GB, everything run perfectly

Well tell that to developpers of the routers firmware, it depends on the router mostly and not the phones

Hi.
Try to reinstall ICS ROM again via Sony Update Service.
Since you had GB before and didn't had any problems with your WiFi at home, and now you have problem with ICS, i believe this is a ICS problem.
If this was a router problem, you should experience the same with your GB ROM.
I did try ICS for couple of days ago, and i didn't had any problem with the WiFi here at home, but ICS was so laggy and had bad performance. I went back to my stock GB again.
I don't understand why some people have laggy device and other not. I thought it was the same phone (Xperia GO).
Well you have to try ICS a couple of days ( the first days the phone is 'learning' your behavior)
and after a while it gets less lags
and for the WiFi problems, i can connect to some routers but not to others,
so i think it's a router issue more then an ICS issue although i can't remember if i had it with GB...
Btw is someone else experiencing problems with low battery:
when my battery gets less than 15% my phone gets very slow (opening apps/switching to launcher)
even rebooting is almost impossible ( at( one time i had to wait until my phone turned off by itself)
Hi.
Well, maybe i should try ICS again and just let it be laggy for couple of days and see if that help, but i also notice that the ICS drain my battery like he....l . Something i don't like at all.
I have been reading at Sony forum, and there is lot of people have problems with ICS.

That doesn't make sense. Loads of wireless devices connect to WPA2 successfully. It's only that this phone, when upgraded to stock ICS, fails to stay connected, and has the wpa_supplicant process hang with 100% cpu usage when such happens. It's definitely a software issue on Sony's end.

That i didn't know, i only experienced that in my bar most phones with ICS or IOS had trouble with WPA2 on my router and when i switched to WPA it seemed that the problems where gone,
but after a few days i couldn't connect for a while and suddenly it did...
Does anyone know a way to "fix" the wpa_supplicant problem?

There's indeed a probleem with ICS and the Wifi, if you search the Xperia forums you'll see a lot of complaints about it.
there's no solution at the moment, but there's an official update comming Proof
So you'll have to wait for either
- a solution made/found here on XDA
- an official update (wich hopefully resolves this
- a custom rom ( several can be found, but they're still in development)
- go back to GB
The xperia Go is a very good phone, it just needs some love and attention, some tweaks and customs...

Possible jb patch in the works

Just returned from taking care of my bill at a corporate sprint store in Detroit Michigan area, and brought up concerns about issues since jb was released. Before I was able to tell my personal issues since the update the couple techs that were at the front door greeting/mingling with customers, told me they have been notified that a patch is being worked on for the Bluetooth, navigation, proximity sensor, wifi and various glitches others have been reporting. This was all said before I even mentioned those issues that myself and others on this forum have brought up. They've even been instructed to stop doing replacement handsets for people with the issues. So to me it sounds like the issues have been noticed/verified finally and HTC/sprint may be releasing something soon. Sounds legit considering the tech's themselves named off the issues and seemed to know a bit about the problems without me saying anything. Figured I'd pass on this tidbit of info and hopefully it becomes a reality.
Update 01/11 called HTC and they have a bulletin that's been sent out that proximity sensor was specifically being worked on (news for stock users at least)..the nav issue the guy said wasn't a for sure thing because it might be a google dropping the ball thing/capatability issue

I have to flash back to an ics rom then back to jelly bean while wiping as little as possible just to get mhl-hdmi adapter to work. And sometimes at that. Most of the time I have to reset the phone 3 times, unplug, plug in cable to phone. It just blows balls! I am about to just go back to ics and stay there. Jelly bean or at least this iteration of it sucks. Not to mention the worse battery life? Why are we excited about jb anyway? It looks good and sounds nice, but it is just like its abbreviation (jb) jailbait!
Does anyone else agree with me or are you all on the google strain of bud? Here's my list of issues over ics: Battery hog! Mhl-hdmi previously mentioned, New usb connection manager screwed my car audio. Have to update busybox everytime I reset just so root explorer displays remaining space in sd card.
I will quit my rant now though I guess. No one at sprint or htc or most the people here even give a rats **** about these issues because i obviously must be a noob who cant wipe and flash a rom properly or my phone has issues so I must be retarded or something. Tired of those attitudes on xda. But thats another topic. Good day to u all!
I updated to JB and I don't have any of the issues you are talking about. After hearing some of your experiences I think I will wait until a patch comes out to update my wife's phone.
I like JB on this phone. Google now is a welcome feature. Initially I experienced shorter battery life, but after adjusting the settings in Google Now I would say my battery life went back to normal or possibly even better than before.
The one thing I don't like about JB is the in scrolling background, but all the pluses more than make up for it.

I turned off any cards that would frequently update.
Ex. Traffic, weather and nearby places
I can't say for sure that these consume extra battery, but ever since adjusting the settings my battery has been performing well.
It's currently at 50% after 12h 36m off the charger with medium use.
I wish they would just fix this dam Proximity Sensor. I hate my calls hanging up when it touches my face and how it wont show the screen when I wish to hang up.
The CM10 proximity fix woked for me.
[MOD] [CM10] Proximity Sensor Fix
I tested using Proximity Sensor Finder before and after. Before nothing happened, after it went from 9 to 0 when covered.
I've seen all those issues the MeanBean Thread.
All 4.1 JB Devices Broke Bluetooth Voice Dial. As far I know only 4.2 fixes it.
I'd be really impressed if Sprint released 4.2 let alone any update.
I posted a [MOD] in the development section to get Cyberon to be the Default when you click the bluetooth button and it works great, better than it ever has and no longer relies on the Network. And I'm nolonger forced to keep my contacts in gmail. I prefer keep them only in my work's ExchangeMail account.
Nav has worked for me so far but I have not used it too heavily.
As far as Bluetooth Reliability during a Call JB is MUCH better. ICS would drop bluetooth headset as I passed WIFI HotSpots.
WIFI has been an issue on this device since day 1. JB release doesn't seem much better or worse, but it does seem different, but usable for me. I've had it get stuck once and would not let go of WIFI as I drove away, which jams the whole phone up until you shut WIFI off.
The Proximity Sensor seems to be a calibration issue. My guess is the OTA update might have accindentally wiped each devices calibration or something. You can recalibrate it. The default cal works for people. I have not had the issue or it's not a big enough issue for me to care.
Well I can verify after getting a couple refurbs because of the jb updates/roms having nav crashes (first refurb to replace my new launch date phone being a launch date activated one with nav crashes and faulty strip in touchscreen), I finally have one that the navigation works flawlessly on so far with several jb Roms I tried....the refurb date on this phone was in December with no usage/data etc....and I was the first to activate the phone (maybe damaged casing on phone etc and never was sold)...so the pattern of newer built elte's seems to be a pattern...at least for me...it was a battle to get a working phone but paid off in the end...

[Q] 4.2.2 WIFI tethering workaround?

I love the CM 10.1 build of 4.2.2. It is my dream phone right now. The problem is that no WIFI tethering works on it as of yet. If anyone has anything working I'd love to be proven wrong. This is a show-stopper for me. I can't use bluetooth because my laptop doesn't have bluetooth.
I tried every tethering app out there. Barnacle was the best in that it reported the errors it was seeing instead of just refusing to work.
Anyway, I am thinking of working around the problem by keeping a ROM stored as a TWRP backup that I can restore when I need tethering. I don't need tethering on a moment's notice.
I would like the tethering ROM as slim as possible. I haven't tried any yet. Would a restore be any faster with a slim ROM?
Can someone suggest what ROM I should use that has a small footprint and can restore quickly? I'm thinking that I won't have any apps and no account logged in. If I'm tethering I will be using the other device for email etc. And I'm sure the phone will work no matter what I'm running.
Can anyone suggest a better workaround than this?
I pretty much tether all day with my jellybam install. It has been a rock solid performer on my note and has kept me from having the itch to try any of the 4.2.1 ROMs.
There is supposed to be a new version released tomorrow, but quite frankly , I don't know whether I'll bother as the current version is exceptionally stable ( with flaps kernel )...
I'm sure with cm 10.1 going nightly, they'll have tethering fixed shortly. Its a pretty important feature for many of us.

I tried jellyblam for quincyatt and I got a boot loop. I went back to recovery and wiped everything again, reinstalled, and I still got a boot loop. Oh well. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sounds like a bad download...Did you download straight to your phone? While I've never had this issue, I have heard that some prefer to download to their computers and transfer the zip to their phones..
You might be right. I did download it to my PC and copy over the zip. However, I had trouble copying and I had to copy a second time. So, I'll try again.
I did a fresh download, copied, wiped, flashed, and it didn't work. Apparently bam won't run on my phone.
...and your using the latest version of twrp?
Yes. I checked. I might be doing something wrong but I doubt it. I'm guessing there is a bug somewhere that rarely shows up. Until the source code is available these custom roms are somewhat a shot in the dark.
I'm just going to go back to my ICS backup when i need tethering. I guess I started this thread with the hope that someone would have a workaround. I really like 4.2.2 and I've decided to live with this. Maybe it will be fixed soon?
Thanks for your help.
The only tethering app that seems to work is "Open Garden." It's in the Play Store but you'll have to side-load it if on AT&T.

thx -- I couldn't find apk anywhere, I'll look again. Is that bluetooth only? I need wifi.
apk is not on their home page. Any idea where to find it?
How do you keep AT&T from seeing that you're tethering?

I don't know who you are replying to, but I tethered all the time with ATT when using ICS. I didn't know they were trying to block it.
For a while they were changing people's plans to a tethering plan if AT&T caught them tethering. I got a warning email myself.

I know that Verizon has folded tethering into the normal data plans. They make it sound like a benefit but they're raising the overall price so they are really forcing you to buy tethering. I thought ATT and the others were going the same way.
I assume they realized they couldn't enforce it any other way.

Assuming you're looking for Open Garden, go to http://www.open garden.com and tap the big orange Get APK button to download.

I've been to their home page a million times because everyone said you could get the apk there. I was going crazy because all I ever saw was a big orange button to download a version for windows. I had just now typed a reply to you that said you were crazy and then it hit me. You meant to go there on the phone! I'd only been there from my laptop.
Thanks, I'll give it a try now.
-- later --
As I feared, open garden is bluetooth only.
I was researching the hotspot issue that only a few users have been having and found that it is inherent to android 4.1.2 and newer. What I found out:
"Throughout the previous iterations of Android (<4.1.2), Android has not identified for the carriers which data is for tethering, and which is not.
Android 4.1.2 introduced that ability (and requirement) for Android devices to properly flag when data is for tethering purposes. This is the first time this has been used in a vanilla release of Android...
For everyone frustrated by this update to Android: Android respecting a carrier's request to know if data is for a tethered device IS NOT A BUG. IT IS A FEATURE. It's not a feature for users like you and me, it's a feature for manufacturers like Samsung and HTC, so they can in turn build devices that carriers can have more control over.
So, to be clear, THIS IS NOT A BUG. Google INTENDED to respect carrier tethering rules. The only way to circumvent this is to either get a plan from your carrier that allows tethering, revert to a build of Android of 4.1.1 or earlier (I used wugfresh NRT tools, google it, they're amazing and simple: FOR NEXUS DEVICES ONLY, SORRY), or for a developer to find and KILL THE ****ING ABILITY FOR ANDROID TO TAG DATA AS TETHERING DATA and release that to the public; either by providing an modded Android image, or as an app (much less likely to work unless you're rooted)."
Copied from a past on another forum, and apparently I can't post a link to it.
Even though I clicked on Thanks, I'd like to thank you again for that clear explanation. I'm sure it won't take long for that to be hacked.
i think the next nightly may fix it
Next to fix on next Nightly
msm8660: Add Wi-Fi AP module args (i wonder if this is it?)

I sent JamieD a message about it a few days ago. I'm not sure if all developers were aware with source of the problem. Its especially hard when only some users report having an issue. Hopefully they get it working soon.

Mediapad X1 Signal issues getting worse over time..

When I got the Mediapad X1 (503L) a couple months back it came with 4.2.2. and the wifi and cell signal were pretty weak and inconsistent. They were workable however...
I upgraded to 4.4.2 (B007) and it seemed to be a little better for a month or so, however lately in the last week or so it had seemed to take a downward spiral. The Wifi is connected but no data gets transferred at all. I have to put it in airplane mode to get the wifi to "reset"
Any one else notice this? This phone is great, but the wifi and 3G/4G stuff just seems to stall and hang way too much.
I'm located in the US on AT&T.
In my experience B006 was best for gsm signal. At the price of no 5GHz wifi.
2.4GHz works fine in both versions for me. But then I am in Europe................ .........

I can understand issues with 3G and 4G in USA as the phone is made and tested in China with different frequency needs,
But Wifi is the same everywhere isn't it?
No it isn't.
Until a few years ago you had to select USA, europe, or Japan when setting up a wifi network. This process is automated now based on network parameters "spied" by the modem.
Huawei implements this poorly or not at all on their chinese market devices, including the international 501L not intended for the US market.
The good news is: it isn't like it won't work at all. Sometimes it just helps changing the channel. The wifi analyzer app is a great tool...... .. .. ... ....
Otherwise one would have to extract the modem apk of a dedicated us provider from the rom.
Great information!
I'm using a 503L, Wifi in the US is very hit or miss. (Which makes sense now reading your post)
How do I get the phone to use a certain channel? That's up to the Wifi access point isn't it?

I used the app wifi analyzer to see which channel is the best.
And yes, then you change it in the router.
Phone is really getting bad now with signal, several times a day now The Wifi is connected but won't actually transfer any data, the same with 3G/4G. Sometimes even putting it into airplane mode doesn't fix it and I have to do a full reboot.
The other big problem is app being shut off automatically in the background. I use Google Hangouts and Line to chat with people and after a while those processes get closed and won't give me notifications until I manually open the app which seems to restart it.
I really hope there is a fix in the works (I'm on the B010 update)
The 4.2.2 seemed to be more reliable for signal issues and never closed apps in the background, however the performance of 4.2.2 was terrible...
Just a warning for any folks in the USA that are considering this phone.
Have clicked those apps in "power saving /protected apps"?
I don't know what to tell you about your comm issues. Wifi AND phone does not point to an antenna issue. Maybe a factory reset or loading the firmware once more?

Yes, they are setup as "Protected" still doesn't keep them from stopping.
I'm hoping we see another update from Huawei so I can start from scratch with the version instead of wiping what I already have.
Yeah, waiting is notva bad choice.
I am doing the same, waiting for a standalone B008 for my 503L. If that is no good I'll go back to B006.

The 503L is up to B010, not sure they will do a B008?
Forgot to mention that as long as 4.4.2 forces the dpi to 400, I ain't changing.

Yeah, that really needs to be fixed too. I am sort of getting used to the larger DPI, but the issue is app compatibility, so many apps won't install from the Google Play store with the 400DPI
Has anyone tried that Custom Recovery for the 503L? I sure which I could take a backup of the whole rom, i'd Probably got back to 4.2.2 as everything seemed to work better just performance was laggy.
@omniphil you could try the cwm at my thread. I got it from the German and Russian forums which in turn got it feom the Chinese forums.

I saw that thread, but after reading, it seemed like it only worked on the 501.
You could give it a shot. At worst you reflash your stock recovery. Use Flashify, incredibly easy.
