How do you clear your launch by defaults, when i go to settings applications, then launch by default they dont give me a option to clear even tho i know the app is set to launch by default. Has anyone got any ideas or solutions this is so frustrating....
Check out HomeSmack in the play store. I've only used it to clear the default launcher, but it seems like it should work for all associations.
EDIT: I take that back, only for some common associations like Web browser and such. Looks like you have to go to Application Manager, select your current default application, and click "Clear defaults",
EDIT2: and if that fails, try editing the associations with ASTRO File Manager
I can change the default application on astro but not on the setting tab why is the default application setting always non selectable on ics settings what am i doing wrong

I am rooted, and modified the build.prop to change the app associations lock due to the Apple patent. I can open my Youtube links in the Youtube app, and my calendar invites in the calendar app. However, my web links still open in the stock browser, and I do not get the pop-up to select which app I want to use. The app associations menu in the settings is now gone with the edit. How can I set which apps perform which actions now?

Go to settings->manage apps->Internet and press clear defaults. You should get the menu then.

On ICS, the People app - I was looking at a contact and wanted to change the picture. By mistake I set the wrong app to open when i change the picture. How do I undo that?
I tried finding the people app int he apps list and clear settings, but it still uses the wrong app?

Wow that's insane. So instead of removing the setting for the app that USES it, you remove the assassination for ALL apps that use it? Good design there Google.

I accidentally chose to set the regular apk installer as default. how do I clear this setting so I can use the Google Settings "Verify Then Install" option? I looked through the apps settings page to no avail.. Thank you

Settings > Apps > (Hold down the recent apps button if set to "menu" or just tap on the triple dots at the upper right side) > Reset prefrences.
This will reset your default launcher, dialer, messages..etc. Or you go to the app (in the settings > apps) that you set as default then scroll down to "Clear Defaults" and press it.

I did the same thing expect I chose a different action and now i can no longer install apps by sideloading because I no longer get the prompt and apk editor opens up instead which i do not want. The answer provided does not solve my problem, so the question remains the same. How to clear default action set for apk files? I have something different under settings»app manager all I have is reset default apps and there is no entry for app packages and nothing set in there that's related to the problem
On Chinese 20s rom any app with links and even in chrome it opens up default browser. It will not let me disable it and since I am not rooted I can't delete it. Anyone know how to make chrome be default browser? Never had this issue before to be honest.
Edit forget that I found it in settings eventually.
Go to System settings -> App Management > Default apps ( lower left part of App management screen) -> Tap on the type of app that you want to change as default and set to your preferred choice.

Hi, I tried to chenge the default browser, but even chrome is thicked in the previous menu appears that browser is system default. Do you know how to proceed in this case?

Have a p30 pro, went to google search bar, searched, then found what I wanted, clicked on open in chrome and had the option of default browser or chrome, clicked default by accident and now can't change it. Tried default apps and that is set to chrome. Even now when I select open in chrome it opens in the default browser.
Any ideas?
Go to settings, application settings, default. Applications and choose yours in there
