So, after jumping into Android with a Droid X a couple years back, I fell in love with Android. Since being an avid anti-Appleist, this love was not unexpected. I loved the way the devs were able to work with a locked bootloader. I came across an X2 at the beginning of the year, and was thrilled with the speed increase and the screen resolution increase; Although missed how everything just worked with the X.
Now I very recently acquired a Rezound, and holy hell this thing is fast! After some research and tinkering, I soon realized this phone is a different beast in terms of modding than the Moto. I have flashed up to ICS, rooted, S-Off'ed, and now I am having issues with AR Recovery in terms of backups and storage mounting. I am also coming to hate Sense, and wishing there were an AOSP rom ready to go.
I have a little thought in my head urging me to explore options of acquiring a G-Nex instead...

I waited six months to get a gnex, I was probably more excited to get this phone than any other of the million different phones I have had in the past.
When I finally did manage to get one, I could not believe what a complete total POS it turned out to be. Being made by Samsung, I guess I shouldn't have been all that surprised but I actually believed (because I wanted to) all the asinine totally raving reviews from completely clueless idiots on sites like this.
I used that steaming pile for 2-3 weeks and then made sure I returned it before it was too late. If there has ever been a bigger disappointment from a phone not even coming close to the pre- release hype than the gnex, I can't imagine what it would be.
From the crappy pentile screen to the awful camera to the useless radios etc etc etc, it seems like every time I turned it on I found another thing to be let down over.
Some things can be fixed with software updates, things like an awful camera will never change. I did pre-order a GSlll to burn up my last upgrade, but I don't have tremendously high expectations for it so when it turns out to be a typical Samsung pile of you know what I can probably sell it for a profit and go back to the superior Rezound.

That probably hurts our developer support, but it doesn't really explain why so few non-developers buy it. I think it's marketing. Sprint mostly pushes the EVO line, and Motorola mostly advertises their Verizon phones. I'm very happy with this phone, and talking with people with other phones, it seems to be an excellent choice right now. But no one has heard of it.

I couldn't disagree with you more. that was one of the things I like about this phone. the look takes it away from the usual design. but I agree, it's all about marketing. I didn't even know this phone exsisted until I got to the store. I had an epic 4g before and was tired of the galaxy S line. so I chose the photon over the epic 4g touch and Have never regretted it.

Development is far from dead. Myself along with a handful of people are learning. Nothing happens over night. Everything takes time. Rather then complain maybe we should focus on what this site is about. IMHO this site is about development and learning how to do it. Myself is starting with theming then move into ROM development. Honestly I am happy with the ROMS we have. Yes we are missing cm and miui but like I said things take time. So like it was said in a thread I started about getting into theming, if you don't see it make it.

I LOVE the flattened corners! It makes it more sexy and sets it apart from the others.
That is left feeling kinda no so much let down but kinda eyyyh about this handset. I've already promised my ET4G to my brother in-law and I think im going to regret it. I knew the GS3 wasnt that much of an upgrade going in to this but the camera seems funky and NFC well google wallets not working on the device :silly: I just feel kinda blah about it ..... and moving off files from the ET4G it seemed to fit better in my hand and I miss being able to change the saturation on the screen modes.
It'll get better with customs Roms to be honest not liking stock at all. I really hope AKOP comes out for this phone. Fingers crossed

I only wish the TW calendar widgets were compatible with another launcher as they did a much better job on those than stock ICS. Business Calendar is a good enough replacement though.

When AOKP and CM9 and various roms come out for this phone (which I have high hopes they will) the phone will feel rebirthed.
I enjoy it now, but I've never been a fan of TW or samsungs skins. Still though, it's a huge upgrade for me; Coming from a Nexus S.
Agree once Cm9 and others get going this phone will fly especially with the 2 GBs of ram

I had the s2 and I feel it is an upgrade. More ram, 1.5ghz, slightly larger screen, this radio has performed better than my s2, lte soon, and not that it matters much but when was the last time your s2 hit 5000 on quadrant while running stock. This phone also feels a lot smoother

I came from the Samsung Vibrant and this is a nice upgrade for me. Very excited. The first thing that went was TW. I'm running Nova launcher on mine. (it installed automatically as it got synced with my account).
The only thing that I am missing is the Ubuntu for Android. I wonder if CM team will look into implementing it with some of their builds. That would be sweet!

I'll be hanging on to my amaze for at least another year. there hasn't been anything out that is miles ahead of the amaze, so when I upgrade, I want it to be an upgrade, not just trying something else out and moving sideways. Now that everything has been released for the amaze, its only a matter of time until everybody gets what they want (AOSP, AOKP, CM9/10, sense4, etc)

I had the tegra 3 one X, & you will only get EDGE speed on it, everything else works. It was ridiculously slow though so I switched.

Totally agreed to this one too. lol.
I personally think that my Amaze will still do the job till at least next year.... except, if i got tired with the crappy battery life and the random shutdown (switched between three batteries and still got the random shutdown).... If not for those two problems, I would never ever think of changing phone.... Plus, I don't wanna pay extra 200 bucks for a small hardware upgrade....
Guys remember we are getting the 1900 band as well. So I'm going to wait for that then get international phones. The choices are endless when we get that 1900.

I really think this is payback and does more good than harm. All of us put together couldn't do much (read our efforts on BBB complaints) but thanks to M$, we may very well get some well needed payback... However, I am disappointed that the ban doesn't effect newer devices. It seems to be effecting only 3G devices... Is this something related to the radio technology?
I don't effing care if Motorola can never sell a single device from now on, since that is what I exactly want. What do they say, oh yeah: Payback's a *****! Hellya!

You're more than likely right. When they (Motorola) got hip to the infringement, they didn't want to invest resources towards a dying product.

Moto says the issue can be fixed with a patch which would remove the feature.
LoL, I expect Moto isn't happy to have to make a patch for all the older phones.

I was thinking this too, but it's probably because they just did not care about us enough. The X2 was a good phone when it was launched, but it definitely did not receive the hype a phone like the Nexus or Galaxy S III got.
Cool, now if VZ would update my line with an upgrade so I can get rid of this piece once and for all! ..rather than next year :/

Lol reeeeeaaallly can't compare the nexus and Gs3 ...they are a bit out of the dx2's league.
Ban away not gonna stop me from using my phone.

Only reason this phone ain't as good as a nexus is the locked bl. If not for that it would be better IMO.

Nexus's specs are better too. Nexus has better ram and 4g among otherthings. The nexus radio sucks though.

This is such a non-issue. All Motorola had to do was import enough inventory before the ban took place to cover the future demand.
Slap in the face to Moto, that Google (parent company of Moto) went to Asus to make the first Nexus tablet.............. just saying
My Droid X ear piece speaker crapped out yesterday so I called to get a replacement and they told me there are no more X's in stock which the VZ rep even said he finds that hard to believe. So instead they are sending me a Droid X2. Don't if them suddenly not having any X's in stock has anything to do with the ban since the X was also listed.
So coming from a nexus 4.... Love the nexus but work is buying me a phone so I figured I wouldn't complain. anyway. Anyone one what the development is going to be like on this phone if we can't achieve S-Off? I was debating between the note and this. Just hoping I didn't make the wrong decision in mod ability.. Since this phone had the nicer specs..

The Note 2 is more hacker-friendly, it is available on more carriers and will see more dev support.

Dev support should be coming soon. I mean the DNA has only been out for a month or so and the Note 2 has been out for over two months. The dev support might be huge for the note 2 but how many people will actually buy the phone? that big huge phablet i laugh at my dad with it every time i see him on the phone. The phone is not attractive to everyone and will sure not be as big of a hit as the SIII.
Stick with the DNA and enjoy the phone for what it is. I am sure that we will get some dev support sooner or later.
Good phones always do!

If you have not had a chance, get your hands on a note then mess around with the DNA.
That made up my mind in 1 min with both. I wanted the note 2 sooo badly but the DNA won me over with the awesome screen and the quality of materials. The note2 felt like a cheap toy with a grainy screen. That being said, I would get a note two if I could get one for less than 300$. What I feel it is worth it for me.
Will S-OFF be coming via a kernel though or is that something we will most likely not be able to do. Would really love some AOSP on this phone. nice phone overall... just prefer more of a stock experience.

You don't get s off from a kernel, you run an exploit, similar to rooting.

There is a method already. They have achieved soff but it hasnt been released. Still buggy and dangerous. I was told first or sec week of january there will be a full root soff method that htc unlock will not be affected. Ive owned 3 evos all have soff. Ive never even been to the site were you unlock the bootloader. Give it time its being done as we speak. Xmas slows it down.
