Wireless Tether - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

So I have the Wireless Tether root app. I have also removed the T-Mo Direct Share Manager app. Wireless Tether starts correctly with the only error being ad-hoc mode (this have always happened on all of my Android devices) but the SSID is never listed on any device when I go to connect. Any ideas?

ssid broadcast is on?
which wireless tether app?

WiFi Tether... I've tried the beta and the latest stable version. There is no option that I see for SSID Broadcast.

try foxfi.

[Q] Barnacle WiFi tether from phone to A70

just received my A70, installed GApps and a few programs through the file viewer after transferring via USB.
Then, I wanted to download a few apps from the market...
I got Barnacle setup on my X10, and my laptops can both see the new WiFi network created by it, but the Archos can't
Has anyone tethered using this method before?
If so, I think I am using the wrong channel to connect, but can anyone advise which WiFi channel the A70 would require??
I can pick up other WiFi networks, but can't actually connect to them due to restrictions on the routers (I'm at work, they require MAC addresses and for some reason wont let me add this to the network )
Try any channel below 11. It's a known kernel issue.
if it creates an AD-HOC connection, then that's the issue.
Aha, yes it does. Damn
I'll have to try the proper tethering method then using the cell phone tether option (which I briefly tried but failed to connect through bluetooth)
Try "Wireless Tether for root users" with it's bluetooth option. Works for me Have the tether activated on the phone while pairing it with the Archos though.

CM: Wifi Reconnection and DHCP working properly on OPEN wifi

As title says, wifi works properly with security disabled open wifi networks.
Tested with MT4G tethering (CM7) and DD-WRT Cisco/Linksys wireless router
This setting does open your wifi for public use, however you may still control access through router settings like: disabling SSID broadcast, or: MAC access and control filters.
YMMV.
Why is this posted here? And not IN the cm7 thread?

[Q] Wifi Hotspot

Need to share my 3g bandwidth from my samsung tab 10.1 , I found no inbuilt options (or did I miss something, pls say I did) .. Tried wireless tether, runs and shows as Ad Hoc hotspot, but no device can connect to it.
And Oh I'm rooted
You don't have a built in mobile hotspot app?
under wireless settings, there should be an option that says tethering and wireless hotspot.

[MIUI] Can i use my phone as a modem?

thanx..........
It's very easy. Download Barnacle Wifi Tether from market (free app). You can use your phone as a wireless router. The app also supports setting an SSID and wep password protection.
Or, y'know, just use the built in WiFi Tethering?

How to create a WiFi Hotspot in infrastructure mode! (NEED ROOT)

So I found an app that will allow you to create a WiFi Hotspot in infrastructure mode and not ad-hoc. The phone itself needs to be rooted in order to bypass your carrier's network authentication and set itself up as a WiFi Hotspot setting, but any devices you are trying to connect to the Hotspot will not have to be rooted. The name is WiFi Tether Router and is in the play store. It is a very very useful app. The encryption works lol and so many other things as well. You'll just have to see for yourself! I was able to use it successfully on a my non-rooted Asus tablet connecting to my rooted 4G LTE phone. Worked flawlessly and I didn't have to change hardly any configuration settings, only just the network ssid and password and the channel, but other than that it was great. It also has a data monitor to show data sent and received and total amount of data used, along with managing the clients connected to the Hotspot. Enjoy!
