[Q] MMS hack to disable SMS auto conversion to MMS for longer SMS - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi every one
I'm on galaxy s3 and hate the fact that it auto converts the SMS to mms when character exceeds 480.
And there is no option to disable this perk..
I don't want to use 3rd party apps like gosms and handcent for the simple fact that they don't support motion gestures like dialing the contact when phone is held to face.
I know there are various ROMs with this option...I am looking for a stand alone zip file that could be installed through recovery.
For the record I'm on XXALF2 ODEXED ...please help me find this app I'm sure there are a lot more people looking for this simple but necessary option..

Guess there is no much hack...although there are some cooked ROMs with this functionality..
Anyhow, mods u may close this thread

Hi Iris,
Sorry to hear about this. I know it probably doesn't help much now, but if you just want to send Long SMS messages (over 3 SMS) you can use BigSMS. It doesn't support any of the gestures and stuff, but that isn't really the point. Most people type their message in the stock app then copy it to BigSMS and send. Not a perfect fix, just a solution.

Thanks man
u wrote the app man..really doin the trick for occusional long sms

SMS with GSM alphabet problem

Hello!
I've got a little problem, which is not life threatening but somehow irritating..
I've been using few roms: gingerreal, both CM ports, coderom, flash, and maybe more and everywhere I get the same problem with SMS.
I'm from Poland where we use some weird characters like "ą", "ś" or "ł". As you may know, when you use this kind of chars while composing sms you get your 160 chars sms cut down to 70chars because it's being sent with unicode alphabet (or something alike).
Now I know that once I had a rom (maybe it wasn't even a custom rom) that even when I used those weird chars wasn't sending them. The whole message was "encoded" as a GSM alphabet.
I know that there's a setting in stock sms app to use GSM alphabet but it isn't working when I use GoSMS which doesn't have this setting.
Do you have some way to solve this problem? Maybe some of my countrymen here can enlighten me..
Cheers!
ps.
stupid rules to not allowing me to comment roms in dev section...
You can try another keyboard. Like HTC_IME mod (it can replace characters you want with another set of characters) or hacked Swype 3 that just doesn't input ą, ę etc.
I'm using Swift Key 'cause it works for me better than any other. It's predictions are priceless 'cause it learns my style of writing from all my mails and sms..
I want to use dictionary and write with polish chars but force sms app to convert it to gsm alphabet. I know it can be done 'cause I had it before..
Any other ideas?
Have you tried the Handcent SMS app from Market? I don't know if it can replace Polish characters.
Now I noticed, that all the time since I've got Galaxy Ace the Input Mode in stock Messages app is GSM Alphabet and all messages that I sent and received has Polish characters.
So every time you thought that you were sending one msg you really sent 2 or even 3... That sucks, doesn't it?
I really like GO apps so I would rather stick to less predictions with swift key than change the sms app.
Shame it can't be set to send without our 'precious' polish chars :/
Every nokia I had in past could do that..
I am using gosms for remove czech diacritics in sms. In polish will work probably also.
where and what setting are you using to disable czech chars?
Gosms - setting - advancedsetting - setting for sending - switch on national setting. Then supported language( polish) and choose czech for sms.
I have gosms in czech, so name of setting is translated by me. But i hope you will find it
Daaamn, you were right! Of course I tried this few times already but this time (since you declared that it works for you) I restarted the gosms app and only after THAT it worked!
They should have written somewhere that you need to restart app so the setting would make effect..
Much appreciated, thanks!
Thanks for the tip man, in Brazil we use special caracteres all the time, after install Go SMS i noted this bug with limititation, i put czech national settings and after restart the app works great again, thank you.

[Q] Go SMS Pro - anyone recommend?

Hi,
I have been semi interested in this SMS system. Mainly because I like the idea of integrated systems with Facebook perhaps.
What do you guys use? I know there is the stock SMS but i don't know - it just doesn't appeal to me any more
Or more importantly, I would love an SMS system which could put a hidden prefix of *0# at the start of each message (and not show it that I sent it like that when viewing messages) because my network requires this stupid prefix for delivery reports.
Your suggestions would be very much appreciated
Edit: Ok skip about FB integration. Seems FB get annoyed about others using their service but happy to leech other people. Hmm..
I used Handcent SMS since forever, but now for some reason it's no longer available on the market.
I found GOSMS and am actually quite happy. I like it better than Handcent. And the themes are pretty cool, especially Machine City.

Thanks for reply Though I guess more importantly for me is the prefix idea. I don't suppose you know or heard any similar SMS program that would do this? I did add it as a feedback suggestion to these guys. No idea if it would be implemented though.
Did you delete the stock SMS?

I'm also using GO SMS PRO and for me it's awesome, but I don't have very big requirements. For normal user it has got everything, for sure it's better than stock sms app.
E :I'm not sure that an app supports adding prefixes.

[Q] How to avoid SMS/MMS conversion?

So... I'm a serial SMS writer, and I often write long, veeeery loooong SMSs. Never had problems with that, but now I find out Android automatically converts an SMS into an MMS when I reach 160*3 characters. Is there any way to avoid this without using an app like Handcent? Any system file I can edit? Any hidden option I'm too blind to see?
I've searched the forum, but I found no answer. Sorry if I missed it.
Same situation for me so i'm pretty interested in a solution.

Look, I found this free app, BigSMS, which you can use to write long messages. Since i really HATE Handcent (I find it INDEcent! ) I decided to download and try BigSMS. For simple, it's ugly. But it works. I'll keep using my stock app, but, when the moment arrives for me to send a 1000000 pages sms I'll just switch for a moment to BigSMS to write it.
Anyway, it's really annoying that we can't change this feature.

[Q] Android and Group MMS

Let me preface this post by saying that I've been dealing with and looking for a solution for this for about a year. Basically, ever since I moved from iOS to Android, and I've not found a suitable solution to it yet. I've searched this forum diligently, googled for it and really just found a bunch of nonsense posts and unanswered questions or suggestion to install handcent or sms go pro. I'll say up front that I don't really want to do that. I like to style and smoothness of the stock messaging app.
Now, to the issue. What I constantly have issues with, across multiple roms and Android versions, is the ability to handle group mms, specifically from group mms where iOS initiates the group mms (if that has anything to do with it or not, that's the observation) or an iOS person is in the reply. Basically what happens is either the group mms ends up having download issues, where the initial mms or replied mms from a user in the group doesn't download and gets stuck downloading and never completes. I've had these issues with gingerbread, ics and now jb as well as across cyanogenmod, aokp, aosp and now aocp roms. I've tried flashing several modems as well as updating my apn settings several times, according to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576199 The thing is, once I update my apn settings to that, I can send and receive mms message, picture and video just fine. It's only ever group mms that causes the issues.
None of them seem to work well with group mms, and I'm beginning to think this is just an android thing. Now I don't want to get into an iOS/Android thing here, but basically what I'm wanting is group mms capability to just work on Android. I don't want to have to deal with the downloading messages, messages not coming through, or having to sit there with the mms open for 5 minutes while it downloads and finally gets around to displaying it.
Are there just known issues with android and group mms? Is group mms just a thing that apple and at&t have some trickery with? (me not knowing anything about group mms other than it just works in iphones) I just want some kind of answer like, "no, it doesn't work well on Android phones and others are having the same issue." Or perhaps, "no, you're just crazy and doing something wrong because group mms works flawlessly on my sgs2." Either way would give me a sold answer!
Lastly, I will add that I have used go pro sms and it did seem to handle group mms much better. However, I prefer the look at feel of the stock app much better, hence why I prefaced this thread with that comment about not wanting to switch. I do realize that if there is a limitation of the stock app, I might be stuck, but to me go pro just feels clunky and cluttered. Thanks in advance for all the suggestions.
I feel the same way about go sms pro, it's clunky. What I've done for now is use a theme that's as close to stock holo as possible. Someday I'll get around to creating a theme that mimics the stock app. The popup notifications are pretty ugly to me in go sms pro, so I use "sms popup" for notifications - it uses the holo theme and is nice and slick.
Don't forget to set mms to auto-retrieve in the stock app. It does hang for sometimes, and sometimes may not download too. Also, the notification doesn't actually popup for mms messages, but it's there in the popup queue the next time I get a normal sms.
Kind of a convoluted setup and i wish it was just built in, but for its all we've got to deal with.

Thanks for the info. I might consider trying it again and seeing if there is a theme out that that looks nice, but from what I remember, all of the convoluted settings was another thing that put me off. I didn't like having to dig through settings to find a fix for something. Honestly, I'd just like the stock app to work, and I wasn't for sure if people were having my same experience or not, or if I was possibly doing something wrong. I'd appreciate some more opinions if possible.
I thought I'd post back here with a few results. I recently reinstalled Go Pro and tried it again. I still find the UI to be somewhat clunky but have used a theme that minimal and it's bearable. I have, however, had NO with mms messages since switching to it. It really has been pretty flawless. Furthermore, I upgraded to the newest version of AOKP which reset my APN settings. On the stock app, I'd always have to go back in and reset them to the ATT PHONE and ATT MMS settings per the thread I referenced earlier. I wouldn't be able to do anything with mms without settings that. Well, I didn't do that this time using Go Pro and I've had no issues with any mms messages. This just kind of confirms to me this has something to do with the stock messaging app, which is disappointing. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Latest Android 4.2 supports this btw.

[HELP] How to bypass the SMS Message Limit per minute?

I have a ZTE Blade S6 running MiFavor custom UI on top of Android 5.0.2.
I use my phone on my work were i need to send at least 40messages to 40contacts in one go. The only problem is this pop up window reminding me the the Messaging app is sending large number of SMS and asking if I want to allow it. Its really quite annoying and inconvenient.
I have already tried using third party apps, adding lines to Serting.db using sqlite editor. But none of them works.
I really like this phone but if I can't find any solution to this problem, I might give up this phone and look for a better one.
Hopefully someone in here can help me.
