[Q] Twitter disabled yet "tpd" process still consumes battery? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Firstly I have a HTC one S, stock, not rooted.
I have disabled everything twitter related, however, in better battery stats, the process "tpd" is still showing and using a fair bit of my battery, does anyone know what is going on and how to truly disable twitter?

I have snowstorm and sense weather syncing every few hours and gmail push as usual, I haven't got anything else syncing.
Disabled most of sense apps apart from gallery, dialer/people, messaging, weather and a few other things.

I don't know for sure but I would guess you haven't disabled Twitter completely. There's got to be some app that's still running in the background. You need to root your phone and start uninstalling things.

Thanks for the reply
Everything that I can see related to twitter is disabled.
- twitter
- twitter for HTC sense
- TwitterAPIEngine
Is there anything else I should be looking for?
I have also disabled all the sense friends stream stuff.
Really don't want to root my phone just yet.

Try downloading Watchdog Lite from the Play Store. This app shows you which apps are using the most CPU cycles (and therefore consuming the most power). This could maybe allow you to identify which app this "tpd" process is associated with. (Having said that, BetterBatteryStats does usually show the app name as well as the process name, as you can see in the other entries in your screenshot, so if BBS couldn't identify it, Watchdog might not either. But the Lite version is of course free, so you may as well try it)

Ok thanks for the suggestion, will give that a shot and see

Just got a reply from someone else there regarding this and this is what he said:
It looks like tdp is just a system process betterbatterystats hasn't recognised, like surfaceflinger but added by HTC or just a new ICS process. (the PID is 0?)
If you look under Settings>Power>Battery use>Android System>included packages it can be one of those.
All the twitter related stuff will start off as something like com.htc.engine.twitter or com.twitter.Android in betterbatterystats. TDP is also a 3rd party twitter app last updated in 2010, that's probably where the twitter link came from?

And I just checked there and this is what comes under "android system":
As well as system UI being listed there.
I will email the developer of better battery stats to see what the "tpd" process is.

(Looking For) WM6 Today Screen Facebook & Twitter Status Update Field

Didn't know if this was the best place to put this or not, but I'm looking for an app that will allow me to enter my Facebook and Twitter status without having to open up a full program, just by typing it all in the today screen field. Think Skyfire's "Update My Status" function but on the today screen like how the optional search bar field works.
I have a 2nd today screen on my Rhodium that I use to manage a few apps that aren't TF3D friendly, and have room for a few short lines for me to type my status into Facebook and Twitter while on the go. I like how Skyfire has the options to globally change status on both FB and Twit at the same time, so if you know of something that will do that, please point me in the right direction! I've heard about the Twitter tab for TF3D, but would rather update status through FB instead of through Twit because of the 140 character limits.
All help on this subject, including how you currently update your status quickly without having to load Skyfire or enter in a mobile browswer or through texts, would be greatly appreciated!
here is a solution for twitter : http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2009/06/16/twittoday-15-post-twitter-tweets-from-windows-mobile-today-screen.html.. If u find a solution for Facebook ..let me know

that is PERFECT for Twitter, wow, exactly what I was looking for.... and like you said, now to find one that does Facebook as well! I've seen people link their FB and Twit status, is that something to look into and just use this for quick, 140 character updates?
EDIT - that only works for those who don't have "protected" Twitter accounts.... oh well!
http://www.ajvaynerchuk.com/how-to-link-twitter-to-facebook-a-twitter-tutorial/
BINGO! I knew if I kept searching I would eventually find it....
http://blog.steffanantonas.com/hack...tter-and-still-keep-your-tweets-protected.htm
Just used TwitToday and updated my status on Facebook, even though my tweets are protected on Twitter! Nice.........
Okay, in case anyone is wondering why Facebook SUCKS at updating Twitter status....... get rid of it altogether and use Yakket:
http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=48449043052
Worked on the first try and my Twitter status is protected. Doesn't take 30mins to an hour to update like the stupid Twitter app on Facebook does, and even Tweeter didn't work for me. Was so tired of having to wait for status updates that are time-sensitive to post on FB using Twitter, and this works!!! Thought I'd pass on the good news!
CycHowdy Messenger
You can try the CycHowdy Messenger that I just posted...
great
Those are great tools but I would like to see an app that actually provide me some updates as well. Something like Android does with facebook.
Is there any application like this ?
I was wondering if samsung wiz would allow something like that...

Seems like it, also, how can I tell if these apps are on in the background or only draining during usage?
I guess that if you're connected to a network it will constantly be checking for the adds.
Use better battery stats, it will tell you everything you need to know for each app that uses battery.
AdFree? yes, it sure does.
Your posted image, my daily experience along with Biporch's thought, surely it does.
The question is that should we get rid of AdFree or keep it or any other alternative tool that not causing battery drain.
I use adfree to manually update the hosts file occasionally, but leave everything else off in settings.
Try Adaway. Its a nice alternative to adfree
No drain

CollegeProfesor what program is that you are using to track battery usage. Seems very nice.
I do have better battery stats but it isnt as easy to view.

That is BetterBatteryStats. He is looking at the Process view, which can be obtained by clicking on the dropdown menu at the very top and choosing Process. If you are asking about the overall look of the app, seems like he has some ICS-esque theme going on there.
This is just the battery stats viewer that comes with the miui from

You folks could also just place the host file yourself. No ad blocking application required. Though my favorite is adaway. Essentially init.doh adblocking is adaway with 1 more list merged thanks to adaway's awesome features.
Yea, I like adaway because it's open source.
Well, 2, 3 seniors suggest adaway then adaway, here I come
Give it a try.
Thanks all

Wakelocks!!!!

So I've been trying to reduce the amount my phone wakes up. So far in gsam, the ones that consern me are android system and google services. Android system held my phone awake for 1.5 hrs and woke it 70 times. Google services was held awake for 22seconds but woke it 63 times. These are my 2 biggest wakelocks. I have sync turned off etc. How can I stop/ reduce the amount of wake locks?
Well android system is your phone Lol so that has to stay on or you have no ROM at all
And Google services is recommended to be on
If you need info on what the services do than go into the manage apps section than scroll the right so it says all at the top and click on the service and scroll down and it will tell you why that service is needed/ triggered by
Not all of the services will tell you exactly what there for but if your only worried about those 2 than your phone is fine
EDIT: if you scroll to the the running section in app manager and click on a service it gives you what you need to know
this is mine

Are you using latitude? Try disabling google location services to see if that cuts down on the number of wake ups.
Of course if you have sync off you'd think it would kill that too, just taking a guess.

"google messaging service" & "media" are constantly running. How would I end those? Do I even need messaging service? I can't find it on android tuner in the system app sections.
There's a thread on media server wakelocks and someone said it may be due to corrupted media files. Check it out:

What is causing full screen ads?

Hi all,
I'm getting for some time now very annoying full screen ads. I'm not 100% sure about it but I think, the issue appeared after I installed several apps. I have found some older threads related to this issue and I have tried with several antivirus apps, task managers, ad detectors but none of them has helped so far. Has anyone an idea how can I identify the cause of the full screen ads?
BTW
My phone is not rooted and is running Android 7.0.

You didn't explain , did that pop up when you search on the internet example on Google , or when you open some apps ?
Thanks for the response!
It appears when I open apps or when I have an opened app e.g. YouTube or even when I press the home button.
Uninstall all apps which doesn't belong for your phone and see if that ads are again jumping if it's still there do Factory Reset by first make backup of your data and remove all your accounts from phone like Google and so.
I think that peal remote that came with my S6 started placing "full screen" ad on my device.
You can uninstall but I believe you have to disable it.
Most of my ads were coming from dodge
@Teddy Lo: this doesn't make sense to me. Like I mentioned before I have installed several apps. Uninstalling and reinstalling is not the way to go. There must be another way.
@RockStar1965: Thanks for your response but I don't have any of these apps.
Example of a full screen ad i got today

strange stats on display covering everything

Hello,
Sorry if I'm not posting this in the right place, however I don't know where else to try.
Since yesterday evening, I have some strange cpu and battery stats on my rooted Galaxy S6 device:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
These stats appear on top of everything, including my secure lockscreen, camera, etc, which makes me think this is some hidden Android feature.
The reason why I'm posting is: I personally didn't enable this, I've had some guests yesterday, but none of them is really tech-savvy, and I don't have any additional apps installed since yesterday.
Does anybody have any idea what this is and how to disable it?
Thanks
It's of an app installed on your device, AccuBattery, check it's settings, or uninstall it if you don't need it.

Wow, I feel like a complete idiot.
Apparently, after I bought accubattery, I didn't notice that I had new options available in it's menu.
Someone must have turned the on.
For reference, anyone else who gets this - in Accubattery, open up the main menu and you have Overlay Settings. That's where you can enable or disable the overlay statistics.
The weird thing is that they will appear on top of everything, which can seen confusing, and rather annoying.
