Loose power button? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

So has anyone noticed a loose power button on their s3? The bottom of the button has a pretty good wiggle to it. It clicks just fine when you press it. Any thoughts on this? Is this normal for Samsung phones? Thanks!

Yes! Mine doesn't feel quite as firm as the volume rocker. I was considering asking someone in a Sprint store.
Thoughts?

In case it matters I have the ATT version.

I have the AT&T version and mine is quite tight....so I think its just yours. Maybe take it to a store and show someone?

But is it loose at all toward the bottom of the button? The top seems just fine.

Mine for rogers seems a bit loose vs volume button..

I am on rogers and mine is quite loose as well. Not just the bottom bit in general. No issues using it though...

Mine seems fine, T-mobile here. Sounds like something worth taking to the store to get checked out.

No, the entire button is tight

Well so far it points to maybe being normal. I mean it works and it doesnt stick or anything. So I guess I am torn to bring it in or not. Either way I have 20 or so more days to bring it in if I see fit.
Still interested if this is how Samsung wanted it or maybe just a bad unit.

Mines pretty loose as well, but it works fine. On sprints version

Thinking on Friday I will pop down to my local ATT corp store and compare the button to the floor model.

Anyone else planning on doing a return due to this issue?

Mine is good and tight, AT&T Pebble Blue. I did have a white one before that was loose and very clicky. Haven't felt that on either of the 3 blue versions I have tried. Maybe it's related to color?
Those who have a loose button, is your phone white?

Yes mine is white. It clicks when ya press it and it works just fine. Its just got a little wiggle to it! I'm gonna bring it in to have ATT take a look at it. See what they think. I bet is they will open another one to see if its the same way. I was reading online on another set of forums that one store had opened 4-5 boxes and they all had some wiggle room to them. Both blue and white models. I will see if I can find it again and link it.

My S3 power button is also kinda loose but it works without issues. I also noticed that it is more flush with phone compared to the volume rocker. It has a slightly more 'mushy' than the volume button.
I believe the thread you are talking about is below, and I was the one who asked for many units to be checked lol
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714031
The button feels firm when pressed, but is just not as tight as volume rocker...
Given the amount of people that have it, it seems more or less 'acceptable' and I don't know how stores will change each 'loose/mushy' one...

That was the thread indeed! I think I am gonna hold off on the return unless it becomes worse or sticks. Either way I love the phone so far! With my Otterbox case it will cover the button anyways.

Kinda! But its just not as firm as the volume rocker. It still has a nice click to it when you press the button. Plus this is my only complaint about the hardware so far.
How about yours?

Yeah. When I press towards the top/bottom of the button, it feels more mushy but center has a better/firmer click. hmmm... similar?
Hardware is flawless otherwise. No other complaints as well.

Are you sure? The "Top/Headphone Jack" picture has the hole near the edge towards the black front casing. But on my phone it's towards the edge near the battery cover.

Maybe just me, but it feels much more "well-built".
The battery back door is much harder and stiffer than the flimsy original black one.
Also the batter back door is smooth, I personally like the feel better when compared to the textured original battery door.

Yes it is glossy and looks really nice in the sun
Oh sorry, my bad. That was just my way of testing the power button without turning off the screen haha.
No the power button and volume keys don't stick at all.
EDIT: Oh I see what you mean. You mean the part when I test the volume button, a menu pops up in the back right?
That is because I use the AudioManager app and when I press the volume buttons, a menu pops up that asks me if I want to change sound profile
It is not the power menu.

Loose Power Button

This may seem a little OCD, but is the power button a little loose for everyone? I popped my case off really hard and I feel like I might have pulled it hard and messed something up. This is loose compared to the volume rocker though. Replies would be appreciated and call my nerves some.
Thanks!
My power button seems "squishy" while the volume and home buttons are more "clicky."
I'm guessing it's normal. I keep thinking the same thing when I take my case off and put it back on....
Haha thanks I was expecting someone to rip me for that post haha. Makes me feel 100 times better.

does anyone have a loose volume rocker? i understand the power button and figured that's how it was supposed to be, but the volume rocker is different in comparison. if you lay the phone flat on a surface, on mine i'm able to wiggle the volume rocker up and down. so front to back of the phone. anyone else's like this?

My volume rocker wiggles much more than the power button. If I tap the phone anywhere near it gently, it even rattles.

looks like Sammy failed on the hardware this time. in comparison, all buttons were solid on my international SGS2 and my international GNex. it may possibly be because of the coating of the band around the phone and thus they had to use a different process.
edit: i will add, however, this is the very first Sammy device with no screen issues i've ever had. no banding, no bad spots. nothing. i was quite please in this area.
I might just deal with it. The ink spots aren't bad at all on my screen. Of course now I notice the rattle more.. Just moving it forward and backward semi swiftly makes a rattle noise.

yeah i'm worried about getting one with a bad screen if i get a good rocker. just fail.

Honestly, I thought the Nexus Volume and Power buttons were cheap enough (they're actually just plastic pieces with contact points). The S3 buttons managed to be worse.
mine is fine, tho the powerbutton is worse. coming from apple i can say i'm a bit dissapointed but everything else in this phone is top notch so in the end i cant complain.

Yes!! And also the frame on my phone is cracked near the Headphone jack, Have no Idea how that happened though, It has always been inside a Silicone case and i have never ever dropped it or anything...
I've got a creaky power button.
I also have a creek sound when pushing down on the back of the phone opposite the volume rocker without the back cover on.
I am normally very... VERY picky when it comes to phone... this is my second s3 and to be quite honest I can't be bothered to change it again.
Every Samsung phone I have had there has been a problem with it.
If I take the back cover off and keep pushing it the sound goes away.. but it comes back sooner or later.
But I suggest you get a replacement because the cheap sound the volume rocker makes it very annoying.

Yep, the gap is slightly worse on the phone I have now, im using the pic from the one i had exchanged, though this one has it as well. It's really annoying. I've noticed the blue one doesn't seem to have it at all, though watching some youtube videos on the white one its more apparent though not every phone is like that?
Seems minor but water damage isn't covered by warranty unless you buy it; the phone costs enough, its just a pain in the arse.
Anyone with the white s3 have this gap?
I have the blue one and yes.. This gap is present too...
Nothing to worry about, but, if I slide my finger across the button, slightly pressing it, it does "click" (is not the same when you are pressing it to wake up the screen..)
I have two launch models (which were made in Korea) and they have very solid home buttons.
I have 3 models produced a few weeks later (made in Vietnam) and they all have the lop sided/loose home button.
Pretty poor from Samsung...

Hmm really does sound like luck of the draw. The home button is put on before the screen itself I believe so only way to fix it is by replacing the screen which sucks pretty bad tbh.
@Crazy CS- you're right you haven't done a completely solid job with the Galaxy s3 have they =/
I tried looking for manufacturering issues and theres quite a few niggly little things about the s3, it's just such a shame!
Anyone else? I've just ordered another Marble White model from a different seller. I think my first one was manufactured by Korea then the current one by Samsung themselves; Waiting on a new one tomorrow- Praying it's perfect...
I'd really like to know what the ratio seems to be as it's pretty much 50/50 for this right now for having a well manufactured Galaxy s3.
Is this a general issue or, colour specific etc.

Seems to be poor quality control on Samsungs part, New phone arrived today (third time; somewhat lucky) buttons perfectly centred but does move off into the 'gapped' position :') and the in-between the screen and white phone screen it has light reflecting :') You have to pick the lesser evil with this phone you really do :')
I've played with at least 10 S3s that have just come out of the box and each one has had a different issue. Lopsided home button, loose volume rocker, really flushed power button...... Samsung have really done a bad job this time around.

Sorta Wobbly Power Button

Hey guys I've had the Galaxy Note for awhile and I love it. Right now something that worries me is the wobbly power button. It still works well but wobblyness sometimes makes the tilt a bit so that it's hard to know if I pressed it or not but still works 100% of the time. Is this normal?
Wobbly power button is definitely not normal. Not a wiggle in mine.
at least yours works, my forces a reboot/bootloop everytime I use it. i have to bypass is with a volume wake and screen off widget

It's the black model. I might be exaggerating a bit on the wobbliness but it is sorta noticeable. I think I can live with it, and my warranty is long enough so that if something does happen to it I can just say it's a defect and replace it.
Fair enough. I have only seen hairline cracks on the white models so that's why I asked. I've dropped my black note too many times to count and flashed it too many times to count and so far no cracks and no wobbliness and only a few minor scuffs and scratches on the bezel.
