[Q] Stock ICS Keyboard on Sense 3.6? - HTC Amaze 4G

Is it possible to install the AOSP ICS keyboard apk pulled from an AOSP rom and install it onto stock Sense 3.6 and have it fully functioning?
I have my old MyTouch 4G on an AOKP rom and I pulled LatinIME.apk from it. Now I'm just wondering whether this keyboard would function properly on my unrooted stock Amaze.
EDIT: Would I also need LatinIMEDictionaryPack.apk as well?

You can just answer that yourself, try it, if it doesn't work, then voila, question answered, right?

I get an error when opening the .apk. "There is a problem parsing the package." I've gotten this kind of error many times for different apps without understanding what it actually means.
Could someone explain to me what this error means in the context of Android apps?
EDIT: Would it also be possible to try and push the app through ADB?

That's probably because the android version is different, try pulling it from an ICS based rom, for like the sensation since that is similar to your device and give it a shot again before try to push it to the system.

What do you mean the Android version is different? I'm pulling it from an AOKP rom which is ICS based, however it may possibly be the different resolution on the 2 devices. WVGA (MyTouch 4G) vs qHD (Amaze)
I guess I'll just download CM9 for the Sensation and try again.
EDIT: LatinIME.apk from CM9 for the Sensation works like a charm!

I like the stock ICS keyboard as well, compared to sense. You can also download a ICS keyboard straight from the Play store and use it right away.

I am Chinese using Motorola thus I got thousands of chances to play with different roms modified based on the stock. Many would change the ime, but some prefer the original.
I did notice when installing a stock ime update pack from Moto, that not only the Latin.apk is changed, but some other modification will be made in the system layer as well.
I believe it is like the stock browser or Google talk app, that a single file would not work functionally without the other parts related.

Now that I know that the AOSP keyboard works on Sense 3.6 flawlessly, I want to go about putting a full fledged AOSP application onto my Amaze. I want to try putting the AOSP messaging app on, but I do not think it will be as easy as a simple keyboard.
The stock messaging app on the Amaze and the AOSP messaging app on CM9 for the Sensation have the same filename. I'm not sure if I'm right here, but would this indicate that they can't be run side by side with each other?

As I said before, give it a shot, make a backup of your current app by copying it to your sd card or something, then replace it withe AOSP version, since I've noticed that files with the same name usually can't be installed together, even if you rename the other file, but you can give that a shot as well.

The thing about the current app is that it is the stock messaging app which is located under /system which I do not have access to modify as I am not rooted. If I install the AOSP version, it would be installed under /data. I am not sure how they would them interact, assuming that they can be installed side by side.

You can get an apk signing app, that should change it, I'd recommend changing the name as well and keep your fingers crossed that it won't conflict again and well hope it works too.

Is there a reason to make this issue complicated? There are several free ports of the ICS keyboard available in the play store, why not simply install them in addition to the sense keyboard and use it as your primary input?

[Q] How do I edit the Android Market to show all applications?

I'm using a couple ICS+sense roms that are giving me some issues with the Market. A bunch of apps aren't showing up including some that I paid for. It prob has something to do w/ me going from GB to ICS 4.0.1 aka CleanRom 2.1. Anyways, before I flashed these roms I was able to see all these apps in the Market that I can't now. Can someone explain how I can trick the Market into showing every app whether they're compatible with GB/ICS or not? If I have to pull my Market.apk and edit it, let me know how to do that or if there is a Market.apk out there that I can install over the current one I already have. If there's a way for me to keep that most updated market(3.4.4) that'd be great.

I know, it sucks. Essentially I think you have to edit your build.prop. It'll be a pain to get it to work. If you can find someone that knows how to correctly edit the build.prop, I think you can get those apps. The best thing to do would be to contact the app developers and ask when they'll make their apps compatible with ICS.
I've never used it but it sounds like maybe the "Market Enabler" app might work. It's at keast worth checking out

I swear I saw a market app that's currently in a Rezound rom here that shows all apps. I forget the rom though. With the build prob don't I just edit it to make it think my phone is on GB? Gotta be an easy way to do this.

1. Flash a 2.3 rom
2. Use root file explorer >>go to data/app folder and copy app to SD card
3.reinstall 4.0 rom and reinstall app
Editing build prop is more trouble and time than its worth.
Copy and reinstall is faster and the apps will still function...paid apps will require the install key probably...

Why do I need to flash a Rom, can't I just download a Rom, open the zip with 7zip and extract the market.apk from system/app? I thought the market apk was in system/app?
Oh and could you name a Rom I could download to get the apk I need. Also, what is the name of the market.apk? How do I remove the market from the ICS Rom and install the GB market over it so I don't have two markets installed and in my launcher?
One last thing, what do you mean paid apps will require a licencse?
Sent from my HTC Rezound using XDA Premium
Nope, not market.apk. You'll want to look in /data/app for the specific apps that are missing. /data/app is the location of all your apks downloaded from the market.
The reason we don't need to simply copy the market.apk is because your market app is working just fine. Google's servers filter based on device and rom according to the build.prop file. Because there's no official ICS rezound it doesn't know what to show you yet. Once it gets closer to release google will add the profile for ICS and everything will show properly.

Sure there is. Extract build.prop from a ROM, and swap it out just like you said. I don't know if it's going to net you the desired result, but why not give it a shot.

dont think its that simple lol
If you go the flashing back to GB method I recommend grabbing AppMonster to back up all your apps. I've been using the pro version and it's pretty cool. Now I have access to all the apps I've downloaded in the past but don't have to install them until I need/want to. It also automatically backs up apps as soon as you've downloaded them. Super easy to restore too.

DO NOT DO THIS! The reason that some of the apps are not showing up in the market is because they have not been updated to say that they work with 4.0.1. If you swap build.props you could seriously harm your device, I STRONGLY advise against it.
I just went to the market website on my computer and looked under my apps, then just installed all the ones I wanted to from there. It was a little hassle, but really only took around 10 min for about 30-40 apps I wanted.

in your opinion does it do any better/different than TB?
I've been looking into editing the build.prop file. I am hesitant to do so because all the other examples I've seen are from similar devices so very few lines are actually changing. I noticed the rezound has a crapload of lines, i'm not sure how many would be required to actually get an app showing.
Does anyone know what specific lines the Market app looks at to verify?
My problem is not that I'm trying to get an app on ICS but that I want Plants and Zombies. I understand it works on other GB's but not the rezound. Any more insight on the build.prop file would be awesome!

Well, updated to CleanRom ICS edition v2.3 and tried my build.prop and my Rez wouldn't even boot... Booo!!!! So back to the drawing bored I went. Happy to say I now have a build.prop that is up and running. Issue here is not that I can't download games from the market. That's easy. Issue is, once downloaded, they won't download additional data. **shakes fist at gameloft**
So here it is, as always: I'm not responsible for any damages done to your phone by use of this file, etc..... Remember to nandroid backup!!!!
THIS HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED TO WORK ON CLEANROM ICS 2.3
How to Use:
Open file browser of choice and go to /system/
Rename build.prop to something like build.prop.bak
Download the file and unrar it
Move the file to /system/
Rename to build.prop
Reboot
When you need to switch back, just rename the modded build.prop to something like build.prop.mod and rename build.prop.bak to build.prop and reboot.
What it does - Makes your phone appear as the Desire HD.

Android 4.0 messaging

Just thought I'd share with you guys if anyone wants the messaging app from stock 4.0 here it is:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.concentriclivers.mms.com.android.mms
Note:
1. You need to disable the HTC messaging app or you get 2 notifications, you can simply rename it to mms.apk.bak in root explorer. Just take out bak to reinstall it if you want to go back
2. If you do disable HTC mms then sometimes picture messaging force closes the aosp mms app

I will. First Rom I found was deodexed but it won't open in root explorer. It shows 770mb data there but I open the folder to a blank page. So now I'm trying to download the Rom from the dev sun that someone linked here. What a long download. I will try to pull whatever i can find pertaining to the keyboard. Ok, here's the update, it throws a parsing error. Guess it is jelly bean only unless this is a simple fix

[Q] Nexus Phone App on a HOX+?

Is there any way to replace the stock Sense Phone app (phone.apk?) with a AOSP/Nexus Phone app? I searched on Google and on this forum and I've had no luck finding any information on that for the HTC One X+. Any type of information regarding this is greatly appreciated!
P.S. I am using an AT&T version of the HOX+ and I'm aware that there are developers working on a CM Rom for it (which should have similar phone and dialer apps to what I'm asking for) but since it could take some time until a stable build is released, I'd love to be able to have the (as far as I'm concerned) improved phone calling experience ahead.
Well, you can replace the messaging app to the aosp one and it works fine. Maybe get a copy of the aosp phone apk and see if it works.

Well, first off, where could I get a copy of said apk's? And secondly, the little info I did manage to find implied that in the case of the phone.apk, if it's straight up replaced, it will not work properly. Apparently there should be a procedure to be used for the process to work, but so far I've found no info on this...

No, you can't. I looked into it as well.
There's a couple aosp apps that just don't work right on sense, the dialer and people app are one of them. Sense doesn't play nicely with them, and from what I understand you can't really do anything without being a dev.
To answer your question though, you can get the .apk's from other device ROM's. If you wanted the aosp dialer, download an aosp ROM for the nexus 4 and extract Phone.apk from /system/app/
