1. does the international s3 support 4g? in all descriptions it says "4G - REGIONAL"?

No, the international version (GT-I9300) does not support 4G, that's exactly why North America has its own versions (there are also some North American versions without 4G too, if I am correct).
The N.A. versions have 2 GB of RAM and a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4), while the international version have 1 GB of RAM and a 1.4 GHZ quad-core processor (Samsung Exynos 4 Quad). In addition, the maximum up and down speeds on mobile networks are obviously quite a bit higher for 4G LTE than international, but if you, like I, mostly use wifi networks, international should be fine to (and I can say from my own experience that the mobile network speeds on the international version ain't that bad either).
You will have to make up your mind yourself, though, as I think in the end, it just comes down to personal preference. I have the international version myself, though I am perfectly fine with it and I wouldn't really exchange it for a 4G model even if I could.

Only question for me is do i want a quad or a dual?
The 2GB of ram is nice but negligible, very little will benefit from it, at the moment anyway.
The quad core system on my i9300 is a monster, i would hate to lose two of the cores.
Plus the development for the i9300 is top notch, which for me sell's itself.
I had a bad time with the evo 3D, the uk didn't like it very much and this was reflected in development, I chose it over the sensation XE as it had an extra 256MB of ram, oohhhh big mistake lol, the sensation wasn't as quick on paper but it was optimized due to better development and for that reason i was left wanting, huge regret.
Plus the 3D didn't help
The point i'm making is, don't go for a phone just because it's got a bit more ram, especially when what's already on offer (1GB) is more than enough.
The data side of it i wouldn't know as i'm in the UK, afaik it's pretty good here.

I can't see carrier logos in the XDA app so I said it anyways even so, in Canada you'll only get 2G on WIND and I believe Mobilicity but I could be wrong about the latter.

I'm in a dilemma in whether if I should buy the international version with the superior performing Exynos, or the US version with Snapdragon S4 with LTE. Although I've heard that one cannot really notice the performance difference in every day uses, I would like to go for the device with the best compatibility with the biggest development community. Please vote on which one would you be consider getting, as of now before either devices are released.
Please do NOT call yourself a developer unless you are capable of creating low level releases such as kernels and ROM. App developers and people who thinks they knows a lot about technology doesn't count.
its a little too soon to tell. i am still not totally convinced that the us is going to be stuck with the krait. att for one might work it with the exynos (you should change the tegra3 before you get pounced)... that is of course if the rumors are true that bell canada is gonna do lte with the quad.
personally i dont need lte and it is doubtful that att will have lte in nashville before my yearly upgrade. so i definitely want the quad core chip that samsung designed the phone around vs the krait that wasnt.

lots of acronyms and proprietary names running around through our heads right now. decisions decisions.
ive got an itch to run and get the hox. but i cant until i know what gs3 att is going to get... and when. i sure would love to take the hox for a 29 day spin b4 i buy samsungs latest version of goodness.
USA version chimes with exynos. It's the same that Rogers is getting. Atleast Att will get it.

International for me no brainer. It will already be unlocked, will get the most developers and Cyanogenmod soonest, generally better resale value (of course, I don't get the subsidies, but I don't have to sign a contract either).
I won't feel too bad if I found out the American version with S4 chip would be faster or at least have better battery life.

nope. the carriers will not allow it. there is always amazon and ebay.
International version is not an option for me (no GSM coverage) so I have to wait for Sprint/Verizon to launch it. I am not happy about that
International version - I live in Europe...
I'm upset though that I'll have to wait a bit longer for the 32GB version as it won't be available in my country right away (or it will be overpriced)

International doesn't mean it's for a country other than your own, it means that it's for multiple countries.

Not possible unless you are in a trial area where tmo are testing 1900mhz freq for 3g.
If you aren't there is no way due to hardware.
The intl version doesn't have 1700mhz.

Because we want the European quadcore. Just because t-mobile thinks U.S consumers are too dumb and too poor to know the difference or afford it, does not mean all of us are.
If the hardware is capable then all you need is a software radio flash.
So far rumors are all the radio ICs are the same.

First, do you think it is some kind of conspiracy to keep you from having a powerful phone? THE SOC DOES NOT SUPPORT IT.
Second, if you think four cores is automatically better than two cores, I suggest you do some research.
You also have no idea what a radio is. There is a software radio, and there is a physical chip. The physical chip in the international S3 DOES NOT SUPPORT THE TMOBILE AWS BANDS, and it never will.
They also cost the same so I have no idea where price comes into this.

Just order the sim card of Straight Talk website and youll be fine...I get H+ and love my speeds...but drop the contract unless you got LTE but H+ is perfect for me and only at 45 montly....Love it..

If you do go this route, be wary that Straight Talk offers both AT&T and T-Mobile sim cards. If you get a T-Mobile one you will NOT get HSPA+

That is an uncalled for response. Based on my early reading the international version is using a chip capable of oscillating at the higher frequencies. I was also toold it is the exact same radio IC used in the t-mobile version, just like the skyrocket can be made to work on t-mobile after painfull modification.
For you to automatically assume and publicly state that my knowledge regarding a technology is limited is foul and absurd.
If i was incorrect on the IC specs then by all means feel free to correct me, but please site your source of information and be polite and professional.

The dualcore uses a Qualcomm-sourced ARM-A15 while the quadcore uses a Samsung-developed ARM-A9, both with heavy modifications to the standard platform.
So there are actually differences in performance in regard to certain tasks but since games, flash and other ressource-hogs usually only use up to 2 cores there is no real disadvantage in everyday usage even if synthetic benchmarks make you believe otherwise.
Usually -as is and was also true for desktop computers, laptops and servers- it's the storage, RAM, and bandwith that are the bottlenecks.
And at least in terms of Ram the Us-Version got an advantage.
I'm not sure about the SoC but wasn't the whole point of Samsung not integrating the radio in the SoC that they could easily pair it with different radio chips? All it would've taken in that case is a different baseband processor, amplifier and antenna - not a whole new CPU arch which happens to include LTE

Oh so you need sources from me but you don't have to cite your own? I may have been harsh but there was a thread on the same page as this one and the people asking in this thread hadn't even bothered to look for information, but to call you out was wrong.
In any case, the four core version uses a cortex A9 compared to the two core version using a cortex A15. The architecture is ARM, yes but when it comes to the SoC as a whole the Exynos SoC has never supported AWS. I'm not saying it is not possible for it to reach the higher frequencies as you said, but it is not a conspiracy by any means. Both are great SoCs, but the fact is the exynos does not and will not support AWS.
Also the Skyrocket modifications are not painful, as far as I know just like the AT&T Note you just flash a radio to enable the bands. The problem is the exynos SoC does not have the bands necessary.

I never made an authoritative statement, simply gave my reason for desiring the quad core based on my beliefs. You are correct I should have been more clear, but let us both make peace as we are both members of an educated class.

No, the GT-I9300 model does not and will not support 4G. This is the reason why the US Variants use a different SoC, as it has an inbuilt support for 4G, while the Exynos SoC does not.
4g is an absolute battery killer from what I can gather anyway, so not really bothered, do most of my downloading at home or over openzone
I reckon a Korean version would still give you the superior Exynos SOC, 2GB RAM and LTE/4G. I'm looking for somewhere to buy them. AFAIK Korean Telecomms use the same radio spectrum as we do.
The LTE version will soon be available in Germany,

Yes that would work, although I would contact orange and see if they would comment on this, although try to make sure it would go through to someone in the UK not someone in India who is reading from a script!
If you do buy it from Korea be careful with ROM's and don't forget about import tax! :laugh:

If you're planning on using Simple Mobile, then you don't want the GT-I9300 or the SGH-I747. You want the SGH-T999. You'll be stuck with a combination of EDGE and/or no data service if you put an I9300 or I747 on Simple Mobile. An unlocked T999 would be your best bet. The T999 is already configured to access Simple Mobile's 3G/4G network. The I9300 and I747 are not. Hop on over to the T999 forum and check on some prices.

When I look at the SGH-t999 spec indicate "No" 4G LTE and have Adreno 225 GPU rather than Mali-400MP.
I felt that GT-I9300 is slight better. So is there a way to get around it?

The T999 is capable of 4G HSPA+, not 4G LTE. As for the T999's GPU, the Snapdragon S4 has more than enough kick to give you what you're after. Plus, you'll be getting an extra GB of RAM and 4G data. If Simple Mobile is what you want, get the T999... that's what the T999 was designed for.
On the other hand, you could get the I9300, which is slightly faster. However, you'll be stuck with half the RAM and 2G EDGE data only. The I9300 was designed with standard global GSM/HSPA+ networks in mind (like AT&T's); not AWS GSM/HSPA+ networks (like Simple Mobile's).
It's a square peg/round hole situation. The T999 is the peg you need... and it doesn't even have to be unlocked to work on Simple Mobile.

Yes, you're wrong again. The I9300 supports 2100MHz. However, T-Mobile's/Simple Mobile's 3G/4G network doesn't use 2100MHz; it uses 1700/2100MHz AWS. It's a huuuge difference!
You want the T999; not the I9300. If you want to use another carrier, then maybe the I9300 would be appropriate... but not on Simple Mobile.

The international, non-LTE version, does NOT have 2Gb of RAM.
The ROMS for the LTE and non-LTE variants are different, because the radios, GPUs and CPUs are different.

No. This is wrong.
The US LTE version has a different CPU and GPU and radios, the new international version with LTE has the same CPU, GPU and radios and also includes an LTE chip and also 2gb of ram.
ROMs MAY work for both, but then again maybe not. We'll have to wait and see what devs do.

What the f***? Where can I find out about this new international 2GB version? I think maybe I need to offload my 1GB handset before it comes out and decimates the value of it.

Also note that lte will cost a premium, kills battery, and speeds in real life, busy network situations are untried and untested so far, so don't ditch the s3....be patient and stay informed

Yeah, a quick Google search for "international galaxy s3 2gb lte" didn't turn up the result I wanted on the first page unfortunately.
I presume that it will only work on Everything Everywhere's new LTE network? I'm planning on selling my S3 anyway so I can get the next Nexus - I was just afraid that the value of my S3 would get destroyed with this new 2GB version coming out. I guess not if it can only be used on Tmob/Orange.
....and only a few cities at the moment, so it will just end up using 3g and 3g+ anyway, so not worth wasting money on till next year at least
All Samsung top end phones will end up with the new process ram so they say .
But they don't say when or what models .Its a new method of building the ram that allows 2GB to take up the same amount of space in a phone as 1GB does at present .

I don't think the S3 LTE will sell as well as people are expecting. I think it's a rushed product, they should have waited until the S4 when LTE will be more widely available.

And let Apple have an "actual" instead of perceived advantage? I don't think Samsung is about to let that happen.
I really don't care about the LTE anyway - it would be nice but I doubt it will come to my little town any time soon. What I care about is the 2 gigs of RAM which is what this phone should've had in all territories from launch -_-
It wasn't technically possible at launch...
Everyone knew full well that at least Note2 would pack it so if it was a r quirement, you should have held out.
Note that the new international is not software-wise compatible to the i9300 and thus will have a largely smaller modding community
