I think we have to wait till the ics update, like the xperia S developer does.. And the beloved developers develop rooting method without unlocking the bootloader..

Xperia possible rooting

Wooha, I don't understand the the language even it's translated by google.
But, I see his method is like the xperia S here, and in this case, many xperia U user of XDA forum failed to apply it, we need a confirmation for xperia u developer in xda forum if the the source is different maybe or the script has been modified so it will be implemented well in our phone.
we can see there that there is a requirement of ICS rom, xperia U doesn't have it, that's why maybe we need to wait to ICS update..

[Q] Just bought xperia s

Hello there,
I just bought xperia s yesterday
I used arc, but since yesterday I fell in love with xperia s.
Emm.. what I wanna ask is, is it worth to unlock my xperia s and root it?
Cause I know development on xperia s forum isnt so stable yet..
I'm scared I'm going to brick my Xperia S..
And then Im at Indonesia.
Which ftf shud I flash?
Generic world?

I think you can flash central europe as you can remove more apps without root.
I am not sure if it has the asian language. I am currently using Singapore firmware which contains chinese and japanese keyboard.
In my opinion, if you are not planning to use custom ROM, you might as well wait till ICS released for rooting purpose. At that time, there should be a way to root without unlocking bootloader

I'm using German as my primary language
So I think the central europe will work..
Well.. actually I'm planning to use a costum ROM..
But its just a plan.. I haven't see all of the costume ROMs here..
But I think I'll wait till someone made root without unlocking bootloader possible.
Thanks for your answer

Nothing bad cause it is allowed from sony itself
They speak that you will loose the drm key or something like that but I don't know what is useful for.
Don't worry,For warranty reasons you can lock it again.

you can lock your bootloader again,
but u wont get the DRM key again..
as far as i know (if im not mistaken) DRM key is useful for warranty,
if u unlocked ur XS, then you void your warranty..
anyway, ive unlocked my phone and rooted..
so this thread can be locked
thanks xda

Untill now,
root can only be achieved by flashing pre rooted.img via fastboot..
If u want to know wether ur phone is already unlocked or not, try unlocking ur phone via fastboot like what u did.
On the cmd will be written,
'"Phone already unlocked"

I have an Xperia S with ICS installed
I was wondering if flashing the 4.0.3 kernel from the Lt18 (pretty sure that firmware has rooting abilities)
onto the Xperia S
then Root
then Flash the Xperia S kernel back could possibly work?
I was going to give it a try earlier today but thought it would be best to ask if they're is any risk of perma-bricking the phone and unable to reflash before I did
Are you for real??

You cant, on locked bootloader.
You can flash an Lt18 kernel on a Lt15 with flashtools maybe it might work
I'll give it a try
I'm sure I can flash back if it doesn't
well I hope so
Hi, try putting the phone in a jar of soil. After a few years it might get rooted without having to use the search function.
Cheers.

Please don't post threads like this. It causes me to jump out of my chair every time I read the subject! ( because I have the same problem).

[Q] easy root for xperia s

Hi, my xperia s is coming in tomorrow and im really excited. I know I should check forum first but im on my mobile and it is hard to do it. But is there a root method for xperia s without unlocking bootloader? Like similar to zergling rush for arc ?
Thank you

U have to unlock the bootloader to use flash, then you can relock it again after the firmware+stock ROM installation.. XDA has a thread based on it. Be sure to check it out =)~

What ROMS are compatible with Xperia S Locked Bootloader?

Hello guys.
My phone as many has locked the bootloader. I've used the procedures described by Sharaz22 to root it and update it, and also I installed MIUI(which I like a lot)
My question is if you know of any other ROMS I can play with for my LOCKED bootloader?
Thank You and Best Regards!!!

1) there is a relocking bootloader. Tft file which relocks your bootloader only { DRM KEYS WONT RETURN}which will help you to bypass Sonys altered software error while updating it through SEUS or PC Companion n you can update your device without any problem to latest firmware....
2) No performance change is noticed rather the performance wil increase if you using custom roms...
3)it works only for Xperia 2011 device

Hi for now, there are no known ways of rooting the locked Sola bootloader.
There are successful methods for this on ICS but not gingerbread, for now. I have tried so many.
Thanks for replies. Thread moved to the Q & A.
so we w8 ICS or FXP its like a race! xD
I got tired of waiting and crazy rumours so I did it, unlocked myself. I wanted root that much. Plus, I read B4anry explain in a comment exactly how Sony treats locked/unlocked bootloader, depending on what you've done, and I think I'm safe. He knows his stuff obviously!
