upgrade your weather to get 40,000 more cities! - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

I was floating around the One X forums earlier and I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740129
In that thread zounduser had a new database that adds a ton more cities to HTC Weather. This is great if you don't live in a big city like me. I can now add some of the little places near where I live. Here is the rest of his thread with changes specific to our device. All files posted will work for the Inc 4G LTE if you follow the directions. Please do not give me any credit for making this I just found it.
THIS IS FOR ANYONE USING A HTC DEVICE OTHER THAN THE INC 4G LTE.....
PLEASE SKIP TO THE "WHAT U WILL NEED" SECTION BELOW. THIS IS WHERE U WILL NEED TO START. THE ZIP IN THE LINK BELOW ONLY PERTAINS TO INC 4G LTE USERS.
EDITED 6/29/12 I HAVE ADDED A LINK TO A NEW ZIP TO BE FLASHED IN RECOVERY. THIS ZIP IS FOR INC 4G LTE USERS ONLY!
{edit}>>>here is a flashable zip u guys can just flash in recovery. i recommend a cache/dalvic cache wipe first.
http://www.4shared.com/zip/TtdXHPwb/...eather_DB.html
thanks SCOTT for making the zip!!!
i havent tried this zip as i already put mine in manualy, can someone please report back with conformation?
so to recap....the link above leads to the new zip ready to flash in recovery, the zip below is for manual install.
as always.....ENJOY!!!!!!
[STOP] HERE IF U ARE A INC 4G LTE USER AND DOWNLOADED THE ZIP FROM THE LINK ABOVE ALL U NEED TO DO IS FLASH IN RECOVERY AND YOUR GOOD TO GO
[START] HERE IF THE ZIP FROM THE LINK ABOVE DOES NOT WORK FOR SOME REASON AND YOU ARE A HTC USER
WHAT U WILL NEED»»the attached zip below and a root explorer of your choice.
ok so download the New WeatherDB 3.4-signed. zip from below
now get it on your device if u didnt download from your device.
first your going to navigate to data/data/com.htc.provider.weather/files rename the "WP_0409WWE.db" to WP_0409WWE.db.bak
now navigate to the zip you downloaded
unzip/extract it
go to where u unzipped it u should see a folder named weather.... open it
now copy the WP_0409WWE.db file
now navigate back to data/data/com.htc.provider.weather/files and paste
reboot
profit!!!!!!
it could take a few minutes to upgrade all the cities, so dont freak out!
this is one of the first things i did when i got my tbolt, my rez, and now my ONE X!!
ENJOY!! consider hitting that free thanks button too guys! its free!!!!!!!

Awesome!!! Glad this is making its way around the forum!! It is a great mod!

Love this but I found one problem. The world clock must use this same database? It worked fine for weather. (I live in PA) When i opened world clock and selected Houston TX, the clock forces closed and will not open again
It force closes every time I tried to open it since. I did a restore from an earlier nandroid backup and its now fixed. I tried Houston TX again in the clock app and the same thing happened. So I restored the original weather database, cleared delvic cache. It is now fine. I can now choose Houston and it works fine. Of course now I dont have the huge database, which sucks.

I just added my city to the original database using SQlite editor. That works for me.

maybe try clearing the data for everything weather related?
might work.

I cleared weather data and world clock data, restarted and world clock forced closed everytime I opened it. Which means I couldn't access world clock, alarm, stopwatch or timer. Only happened when choosing Houston TX in World Clock. Other cities worked, atleast the couple I used. I'm using the UKB Lte 1.0 ROM. I mainly wanted it for my home town, which I have since manually added. And Houston works now using the stock database.

the one thing I don't like about this is when you choose your hometown, then you go for a ride to leave town, the city doesnt update to your location cos its on ur home city.

[SOLVED] Time to bring back the Original "Flip" Clock?

Now that we have all sped up our phones, and roms because of this thread by androcheck:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622666
(some have also used this thread for a general processor speed up:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628178)
Is it time to bring back the original flip clock that seemed to slow down the phone, but should now be ok. I thought it was quite cool, and demonstrated a nice animated widget.
Has anyone got the original HTC Flip(ping) clock, and know where it can be gotten from?
I second this
I'm in!
Or do i just wait untill 2.1?
Come on, please. Somebody must have a copy of the original Flip clock that come out on the hero. Please someone tell me how to get a copy.
I tried extracting the HTCClock apk from the original roms zip from t-mobile, but it didn't work.
Any other suggestions?

Just checked it out, so two points.
1. Why would I pay for something which is free on hero, where these widgets are to make other phones look like hero.
2. the flip clock is not animated on Beautiful widgets:
taken from:http://www.androidtapp.com/beautiful-widgets/
1 - "... Android home screen widgets resemble the impressive UI of the HTC Sense available on the HTC Hero phone."
2 - "The clock/weather widget is static and doesn’t have the card flip and weather scene animations like the HTC Sense UI but works well. Added more widgets to this set will make it even more sweet!"
So thanks for trying, appreciated. It's the animated original flip clock I am asking about.

It didn't work because perhaps, I extracted it wrongly or I had extracted the wrong set of files. I am not a dev on the hero, so I wouldn't knowhow to remove the current HTC clock and widget and how to install a new one into system memory. All I was asking for was someone who perhaps has got the original flip clock left on their phone (someone who hasn't updated their phone since they got it when it came out) to provide a the widget files.
There must be a way of it working (with the correct files, once they are found) because it did work before.
Look, if it is too much for you then I apologise, I was just asking for the widget.
P.S., when you say "us" in your quote above - do you speak for the whole community?
the process is basically right, there is no magic in copying apk's from a to b. it is just that the whole sense environment goes deep into android. afaik there is still no completely "sense-less" rom available yet that fully works. on top of that sense is from htc and therefore closed source.
did you do a search? you are not the first one to ask for this, several people have tried to get the flip clock back. if it was that trivial it had been done by now. and no, there is no "must" for it to work, with the given resources.
if you want to make sure you get the original widget get it from an official update file here in the stickies, or from an old update.zip which you can find in the stickies at modaco. not sure why someone else should do the job for you?
when i say "us" i mean everybody that feels adressed...
OK cool, I'll try to investigate it further.
Sorry I asked now, I just thought someone may already know the process of extracting the correct flip clock files so they could readily be adb pushed into the phine ti the right place. Other people in this thread also expressed an interest in attaining the files. So sorry that I asked in the Q&A area.
just ask everything again and again, that's totally cool. it were different if that information was already here, let alone several times. and sure, other people making the same mistake does make it better, absolutely. and i really shouldn't tell you that it is most probably not doable, since i havn't tried it myself including deodexing the file to give it a chance to work at all.

That's really cool, I did try (so no, not too lazy) and failed thinking that I might be doing something wrong. That's the only reason I asked the initial question, 'cos I was sure that someone who knew what they were doing or were more experienced might already have it or know how to get it.
I'm glad you've got it. Any chance of sharing once you've figured out how you did it?
well, my trying involved a little more than just copying it from another rom... edit: and by everybody else i mean those people around here that know how to do this, stuff like deodexing etc. not actually EVERYBODY.
for the moment i am having trouble using my phone at all, won't register to network for some reason. i think it is not a good idea to use airplane mode when rebooting and restoring backups frequently, so for now i am repairing...
you can try the attached apk, delete HtcClockWidget.* from /system/app, then push the attached apk and reboot (probably best to do it in recovery). when i tried this yesterday i got errors, today i flashed the whole rom again (no wipe) and it worked... no idea why actually.
Tried what you said, but the clock said it couldn't be installed when I removed the HtcClockWidget.* and replaced it with the one you gave (using adb push).
So I then tried reinstalling the rom, and now all I have is the non-animated flip clock again.
Can you clarify the steps you took to get the animated one installed under modaco 3.1? I just can't get the animated one to work? Thanks again for trying - there must be something that I'm doing wrong.
try this one, install through recovery as usual. there seems to be a difference in using update.zip and adb push, even when pushing in recovery. with this update.zip i can install and use it, but don't get any mobile network connection at all, neither voice nor data. i just arrived at home, i will look into this later again, but tbh i am not too optimistic.
to revert just flash the mcr rom over it, or make a nandroid backup before. make that backup anyway.

EXCELLENT! it worked!
0) Nandroid Backup.
1) I backed up with adb pull both HtcClockWidget.odex and HtcClockWidget.apk from /system/app to my pc.
2) Then I deleted them both from /system/app.
3) I put your update zip onto my SD root directory.
4) Then with amonra I updated with your zip.
5) Restarted, then chose the widget from the add menu on homescreen. Et voila I got the animated flip clock. AWESOME!
THANKS A MILLION Kendong2, hope you get it working ok yours.
this is now here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=635113
i didn't get it working on my own phone (in my old installation of mcr3.1), but actually that installation doesn't work good at all. i think i've something else messed up, it works fine on a fresh installation.

Weather Widget

Is anyone elses weather widget not updating correctly? I go to a differnt city an hour away for work and it never changes to that city! And I have it set to my location. I even click refresh a thousand times and it doesnt change. The only thing that changes it is rebooting the device. Also sometimes it just says My Current Location.
What is your device? Probably you will need WiFi/mobile network to update your location.

Have u taken and deleted the widget and added it new again. There is one or two other checkbox options that u are asked for the first time u put it up.
At least on the ics/sense 4.0 rom I run on my 3d that's what the deal is. I would assume its the same for the official release.

I dont know what to do anymore its driving me nuts! Help anyone?

Hhmmm....I havent noticed that at all. Ive noticed it with my WeatheBug App. Bug not the stock weather app...and u have everything under Locations in the settings checked?
EDIT....Now i dont know if its because i just woke up (But damn it felt good to sleep 2 extra hours, TIme to go golfing in Beverly at 11. Come join) so i dont know if this is due to the weather, but it seems everytime i head into a different town, i get a pop-up to select my time zone, so this way the time stays up to date. Im not sure if that what your talking about. I just checked my Setting inside the Weather app, and i was surprised to see that there was no check underneath "my current location"....Is that checked off for you?
Ha! What's up man. Ya I have all that checked! I get that time pop up too. Bug when I go to work in Norwood from.New Bedford my weather NEVER changes towns not even when I get to Norwood unless I reboot. What Rom are u on? I'm getting the SG3 in a few weeks too, but I'm gonna keep this phone too cuz I love it but this weather thing is driving me crazy.

You have to check current location when choosing the clock widget. Try deleting it and adding a new one and make sure to click current location. I had the same problem until I did this.

My weather widget app always shows that that the current weather is thunderstorms, regardless of where I am. I have to open it up and it'll refresh to sunny or cloudy. Then if I don't use by phone for a bit it'll go back to thunderstorms. I just checked and I didn't have currently location checked so that'll hopefully fix my issue.

[APP ViperRez] Htc Locations/ Footprints

For those of you running ViperRez and miss the Htc Locations;(Footprints) app from Venasaur, I have a quick solution to get it working again.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yxhovh7z35z9zbx/jRrZKD36JX
1. Download the zips and two folders in the link and place them on your phone
2. Flash the zips in recovery first
3. Take the files from system_app and copy them to /system/app using a file explorer(root explorer) and change the permissions to rw-r-r for all files
4. Take the files from system_lib and copy them to /system/lib using a file explorer(root explorer) and change the permissions to rw-r-r for all files
5. Reboot phone and enjoy the Htc locations app again
P.s. The reason I use Locations is because I live in a rural area without internet all the time and its nice to have offline gps maps when I go hiking and such without them expiring after 30 days like google maps, so if its not to much trouble could you put it in as an option in aroma Joelz? I'm sure others in rural areas would appreciate it as much as me. Plus your rom is the only sense 4.0 one that I've gotten Locations to work on.
can you get the HTC Twitter widget goin too?
I tried but I don't know which lib or framework files it needs to go along with the apk's, if someone else knows then I'm sure it would be just as easy as htc locations.
mine keeps telling me it cant connect to the server right after it tells me to download, retry gets the same result. Cancel leaves the program. Thos are my only options. Any ideas?

I've added "Footprints_system_files_signed.zip" to the dropbox folder, try flashing both of the zips in recovery first then replacing the system/app and system/lib files and be sure you fixed the permissions to read/write for user and read only for the other two (rw,r,r)
I added those but it still says can't connect to server for downloading location files (before the app launches). Any ideas? Maybe an alternate way to get them?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
If I didn't work I have no clue as I'm not a really a developer or anything I just noticed another thread that got locations working on another phone so I just took the files needed for them to run from the team pkmn rom (since its a sense 4.0 rom for rezound that had locations working on it) put them in there right place on my phone rebooted and it worked for me. When I took the files from the other phone and tryed it didn't work and gave me the same problems your having. Silly question but your trying this in a rezound and not another phone right ? If you using a different phone you'll need to find a rom for that phone with a similar build that has locations working, pull the files from it and put them on your rom. Also some people say to install LocationsInstaller.apk but when I tryed to install it it wouldn't work so I just stuck it in system/app rebooted and the location app appeared in my launcher finally.
Also not sure if this has anything to do with it but when I was running xXx I downloaded the maps of the west and midwest to use offline, So I already had the offline data for the maps when I attempted to get this working. Also its off by about 50 feet but when I'm hiking the backcountry without internet I can live with 50 feet.
My advice would be to try and install the LocationsInstaller.apk and see if it actually installs and if it does reboot your phone and try to launch the app, if it launches it should tell you its out of date and needs to download files, let it do its thing reboot again and if all went well it should work. If it doesn't I'm out of ideas for now and maybe someone else (developer) can chime in with there thoughts.
I never intended for this to be for the community but I figured if it worked for me it might for others. If all else fails for you there's and app called "Maps (-)" in the market that appears to have offline maps and lots of customizing but to get full features you need "Maps (+)" which costs $2.99 and im a cheapskate lol. MapsWithMe also seems like a good alternative that is 100% free
Nice this got on the portal!
Hi,
I did exactly as it is in this instruction on my Desire HD with custom Jelly Android and have an error:
Unfortunately Location launcher has stopped.
Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks...

hmmmm ok, well i saw that but skipped over it
because on all my other roms/including stock, i dont remember it being an app,it would just auto-connect
and it was always a system apk as well
let me go check it out though
It was excluded because CM10 has absolutely nothing to do with ATT. Or any phone for that matter. So unless somebody kangs CM10 and adds in an app, it's going to always be as bare bones Android as you can get.
Essentially, CM10 isn't ever a bloat removed version of any phones stock ROM, because it's build from aosp source, so the bloat was never there to begin with, and likely wouldn't be added in anyways.

I like that app as well. That wsa the only thing I didn't like about my ROM, so I did a nandroid, restored to stock, pulled that system app, and restored my nandroid.
Lucky for you and anyone else that wants it, I just happen to have placed it in my Dropbox.
Make sure to place it in /system/app (Don't install it like a normal APK) and change permissions to rw-r--r--
You will need to manually connect to attwifi the first time if you haven't already.

the system app one, like if you're at mcndonalds , will connect to it automatically (mcndonalds is one of the stores on ATnT wifi partnerships)
if you didnt have the app, you can still connect(its free wifi no password) but you would have to first open up a browers, read the agreement, and hit accept blah blah, before you can start using the wifi. again the system app skips all that and just connects you

It also skips all the payment info at some places that still charge for WiFi, so long as it's powered by AT&T. I wouldn't mind having this feature back as well, even though I'd rarely ever use it. Honestly, my cell is faster than the WiFi at any Starbucks or McDonalds around here. But I can see a use for it while traveling. Maybe download one of the stock ROM flashable zips and just extract the necessary apk, put it in /system/app and see if it will work that way. I'd try myself, but I'm a tad busy lately and already in trouble for all my downloading this month.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the one on Play is too bloated. I don't want that junk handling all my WiFi.

Well, Mr. Useless Retort, I was searching for this very apk and was about to download it until I looked at his stats. You see, the fact that a post is a year old doesn't make a lot of difference if it has information you need. You see, Mr Useless, that's why the forum goes back many years.
Note that my reply wasn't intended for him, it was to warn off anybody else who might think about downloading this.
See how that works??
I think you can get this apk from the market, or what I do is google for apks -- especially older ones when the market updates me and the update sucks. I haven't been burned yet.

Googling for the apk is what brought me to this thread. I've never been burned with a download, either, but then I've never downloaded one from somebody with a single post.

[HTC WEATHER UPGRADE] 40,000 MORE CITIES FOR YOUR HTC WEATHER APP v2 1/23 fix install

This is a mod to the Weather database that a long lost user made for the Stock Weather app. It adds about 40,000 cities to the base database, obviously increasing the odds of finding your city when you add it manually. Either flash the file in recovery or unzip the attached zip and drop it in /data/data/com.htc.provider.weather/files. Rename the original to .bak or something. (Set permissions to RWx Rxx Rxx). You will need to reboot. After rebooting it could take up to 20 mins for the database to be repopulated in the rom. So be patient. Or restart again for the hell of it. It will come alive soon enough. (there may be a brief period where you see no cities until it updates. Don't panic, it will update). Please Note: When this database was made, there were a number of cities in states with dual timezones that were put in the wrong time zone. If yours is wrong and you tell me what city and state you are in and what time zone you are in, I will fix it asap for you. If you dont want to wait for me, the second file is an SQL Editor so you can update the db yourself. But please, still tell me if yours is wrong. It will benefit everyone in the long run. (or send me your updated one). If you are really ambitious and see many cities around you in the wrong time zone, a brief note to me would make me and fellow users very happy. Thanks again and Happy Modding!!
Changelog

Actual locations
Just so you know, without the actual latitude and longitude put in for each and every location, all cities show up at 0,0 on the globe in the clock app. I just edited my locations that I needed and that fixed it, but I'm not about to go through this database and edit 42000 locations. So yeah, this works for the time zones themselves, but since the weather app lets you search for locations online now, then the only thing this does is wipe out the lat/long for each city so they all show up at the same location on the globe (except for the current location) and gives you more towns for time zones.
I should've made a backup.
I installed this, and I'm having stability and bootloop problems. Is there a way to undo it?

Restore the original database that I told people to backup before flashing. Our use your nandroid you make before testing new mods.

Seeing those cities don't exist in the original database, you aren't losing anything. You are still gaining more accurate weather. And it doesn't break the live location selection
