task killer? - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

This might be dumb but coming from the original inc, I had a taskiller to kill active apps. Do I need one for my inc4g? There seems to be people on this forum that are much smarter than me when it comes to this.

You shouldn't need one. The OS will do that for you and usually better then you can do it yourself.
I never use a task killer anymore because I was causing my own issues by using one.

it's there, jsut not in app drawer, im using tweaks now, it will have the task manager tweaks in quick settings once rom drops, dont wanna spoiler any surprises yet
but nit asked me to help him port venom rom as he got permission and im beyond honored to have been asked. so excited.

Although you may want to have one to have more control over killing background processes that aren't directly associated with apps, the need for a task killer is greatly reduced in Ice Cream Sandwich because you can effectively quit an app 99% of the time by opening the Recent Apps menu and swiping up on the "card" that represents the app to remove it.

Nice...I like too!

although, I can edit the deafult.xml and unhide the task manager icon and personalize icon, I feel they shouldn't be hidden, but needs to be on fresh flash, I'lll talk to Nit.

Havent used a task killer in 2 years. Forget about it!
You don't need it. If you are having issues, use an app like system panel and find the rogue.

Let the phone manage itself, after 2.3, it's not needed.

First of all, sry if this is the wrong section!
Its been some time since i got my hero and i found only 3 apps that i would LOVE to have...
1. an alarm that works every time-.-'
2. rabbids go iphone
3. touchgrind for iphone
i know the last 2 are for iphone but can it by any chance be cracked? or one similar being created? those are the best apps i've seen for ages on any phone and i would love to have them! even at a cost!
and just something random, does any1 know the gbaemulator version that is for hero? i have a lot of them but none of them has onscreen buttons ;/
thx!
1. Why doesn't your alarm work? You should probably look into that problem! Which ROM are you using, how often does it fail etc?
2 and 3. 'Cracking' an app won't change what phone it works on - totally different OS, CPU, architecture, resolution......
email the developers and ask if they have an Android port planned
If you are using any task killer, first reboot phone, than exclude clock aplication in task killer. It should work

That's what I did and it worked for me (worked without rebooting for me). Took a while for me to realize that that was the problem. Woke up a bit too late a couple of days :S
Is there a way to force the clock app to be open?
Why doesn't the clock app tell the system to wake/start/open itself right before the time of the alarm to make sure that it's open? Is this limited by the system?

If you have killed the clock process, how do you suggest that it should magically reappare to make sure the alarm is working? If you kill it, then you kill it.

A timer in the system?
Clock app says: "Hi System, in case I'm not running, could you wake me up in x seconds (or at least the activity needed for running alarms)?"
And the system would do so.
The way it is now, either the Clock app could be killed in favor of other apps (memory) or it would be prioritized and killed very seldom (please correct me if I'm wrong). Both things sound bad to me since the first would make the alarms unreliable and the second might keep the Clock app running even when it's not needed. So, as I asked in my last post: Does the system allow an app to do such a thing?
Just wondering what this thread is doing in the "Development" subforum when there is a perfectly good "Themes and apps" subforum!
Regards,
Dave

Some basic phone questions.(X10 Noob)

My battery seems to fly out the door, how do you close down some of the running applications? I don't want to download a 3rd party app just to be able to close browser or mediascape X_X
EDIT: Also, I am trying to delete some apps with Titanium backup, do yall recommend deleting Google talk, Play Now, User Guide and Use Support? And finally there is a toolbar that has 4 pictures (one with a dot and signals going up, one for blue tooth, one with a satellite dish letting off a signal and one that controls the phone, what do the 1st and 3rd ones control? I have no manual with this phone.
Edit Edit: (Lol) How do you set .mp3's for ringtone and notifications(and while we are at it custom wallpaper), and is there anyway to change the unlock process of the phone?
Really, thanks to anyone who answers even one of my 50 questions.

3rd party
On the beginning of the thread you said you didn't want a 3rd party app to close tasks. However you should use something like "advanced task killer". If you open the app you get a list of running apps and you can unselect the ones you want to remain running.
Then you get a 1 click widget that remembers that (un)selection, leaving those apps running and stopping everything else. Very useful.
BTW check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=767849
The beauty of android is the amount of nice apps available!
EDIT: Just in case you don't read that thread through:
careful with LCD Density Changer you need ROOT with Superuser and busybox or your phone will brick
So better to stay away from that one.
Ya at the beginning I didn't want to use a 3rd party app to close tasks, it didn't make sense, now I can't get enough of ATK.
I have 2 new questions for everyone.
One how can I access the internal memory from my pc? And 2 how can I change the background color in menus like settings, messages etc. The blue background is super annoying.

This is not really necessary or recommended with Gingerbread onwards. Android is much better at suspending the threads.
But if you really want to kill it, just download any free task killer.
By the way, the Xperia S has a TON of RAM. I'm not sure why you think you're running into memory issues.

There are a number of pieces of research that show that killing tasks manually actually has a detrimental effect on device speed and battery life.
Let Android manage this itself.
This is intresting to know because I had task killer on my sgs2 and i always used to kill apps manually.

That and dependency issues. (think cardhouse) ;-)
Middle Key
Press the middle key and that will take you to the task manager.

Best apps for HTC One

I wanted to start a thread that shows some good apps for the HTC One. If you have any that are good, feel free to post them.
A couple I have that are pretty good are:
1) Wave Launcher: can add more apps to save space on pages. Can't really explain it, but look it up.
2) BetterBatteryStats: I like this app because I can see how much screen time I get from a full charge.
I'm looking for new apps for the One. If you have any I'd love to know them. Thanks
Faceniff
Google it because it's against the rules to link it. But here's my demo video of it in action:sly: It's AWESOME

On a side note, you should request a mod to move this to the themes&apps section
1 advanced task killer,
2 clean master
3 doctor battery
4 alphalt 7:laugh:
atk really>>>> that was used in the 1&2 series of android phones STOP running it... It causes your phone to use more battery to restart the processes than it does save battery...
1- Power Toggles. Free Notification Toggles make it much easier to change settings vs Sense Settings Menu. I really like adding in Recent Apps shortcut as well.
2- Galaxy Pack. Battery last long enough for me to use a Live Wallpaper, and Galaxy Pack is simply one of the best with lots of options.
3- gReader.
Lux Lite dash: auto-brightness - replaces the built in brightness and actually works.
Can be tweaked to hell and back, and I really think this, more than anything will help with battery life

Definitely this, getting 4+ hours of on screen time makes me happy.
Thanks to Laporte for getting me on this app.

[Q] Pls Give your advice on this!

Hey Everyone,
Thank you for your time, me and my small team are just about to release a android app for cleaning and maintainance.
So I`ve got this problem of naming a function tap, basically this function is developed for boosting memory of android phone by killing running tasks. So what`s the best name for this tap, any advice?
Which options suit best?
1. Task Killer
2. Memory Boost
3. Memory Optimization
4. Task (?)
5. Others(Pls provide your suggestions)
Thank you so much in advance!

It kinda is advice. It's great advice lol. Everyone thought Task Killer were great when Android was first introduced. Then, it just became a problem child & battery killer. I would stray away from the name "task killer" if you want a successful app.

yes, I know this kind of apps are redundant to the "professionals", but we must admit most of users belong to "layman" or what you prefer "noobs"
and what we do, to some extent, what we all do is to make everything more convenient and better, also apps like"task killers" "memory booster" etc are disappointed by many users coz it failed their expectations every time. Actually that`s why we choose to optimizing this field rather than stay away with, maybe we haven`t done good enogh, can`t meet everyone`s expectations, at least we tried.
I tried Task killer but not satisfied untiI I use Greenify.
