slow internet nightmare.... - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so my internet is sooo bad.
like right now, I have full bars of H+, and yet xda takes 45 seconds to load. facebook takes a good minute to load each picture.. you can imagine. yet if i run a torrent or big download, it takes a minute to get started, then goes up to 600kbps-1mbps or higher.. so the actual speed isn't the issue, its how long it takes it. like the internet needs to spend a minute thinking before it decides to start..
I'm currently on Omega 8.1 on an AT&T network. my internet is extremely bad now, but even before on omega 2, and 7 I was facing these issues (just not as extreme)..
I feel like it's some sleep policy or my sgs3 trying to conserve battery, but I'd MUCH rather have good internet.. is there a way to crank up the internet settings?
any response will get a 'Thanks'

Guess number 1 You may be suffering from DNS related issues.
Guess number 2 your peers may be close to your location and the other sites you are trying to connect are abroad. (This happens when your provider has low bandwidth to abroad -educated guess- )

Try rebooting your modem. I have the same problem as you from time to time so I just reboot my modem and everything is fine.

What on earth are you on about? He's not talking about WiFi, he's talking about 3G / HSDPA mobile data. No router/modem to reboot.
To the OP: I'd recommend contacting your carrier personally. It's possible they're experiencing problems, and if they're not, they may be able to help out.

You might try swapping your SIM card at your local retail service store. You can also try clearing the app cache and or app data to see if if that helps...

[Q] Samsung Dive only works when connected to internet?

It seems that Samsung Dive only works on my sgs2 when either the wifi or the network data mode is enabled on the device. What's worse is that if the "Wireless Networks / View Location in Maps" option is disabled, it will ask to be enabled while tracking the device.
Practically making Samsung Dive uesless.
Is there a fix for this? I've flashed a few ROMs but I'm back on stock, I never had this problem before flashing ROMs. Thanks.

I'm curious how you expect it to work without some kind of data connection.
Regarding your point about being asked for permission, if on KK5 at least, if you freeze the Network Location apk (com.google.android.location), the prompt does not appear and it does not seem to inhibit your ability to use GPS correctly.

Sorry if I made myself unclear, what I mean is that the user has to manually enable wifi or 3g to be able to use SD. So if the phone is lost, there's nobody there to enable 3g/wifi, so SD won't work.
You weren't unclear. How would you like it to communicate with the phone with no data connection?

Before I flashed ROMs SD would activate my 3g (when it was already off), then activate my wireless networks / location option, ten activate my GPS, then find my device. But now all it does is sits there, trying to connect, until i manually enable wifi or 3g, which it will then ask me to enable my wireless netoworks / location, and then it doesn't do anyting.
OP, you make no sense. You didn't answer to oinkylicious's question: how can SD reach your phone if it can't connect to it? It's almost impossible, so yes, someone has to be there to enable data or wifi. It was always like this and it will always be like this with the current technology .
About manually activating the tracking system, I also have my doubts. I only tried this several months ago, but then it showed my location without asking me to enable tracking. I'm on CM7 now, so I can't test it.
Alternatives: theft aware can do the same thing (now quite good, but it works) via SMS. You just send the code to your phone, and it gives you the location.

Well it's just that on my sister's sgs2, she doesn't need to manually activate 3g.

What would the person use the phone for then? I actually don't think that a thief would have the slighest idea that he/she should turn data off.

You still haven't answered my question. Also, could you provide some proof that this works on the other phone with all forms of data turned off, as it intuiges me.
If it works on an older ROM, revert until "fixed". If it doesn't, use an app controlled via SMS.

Knowing people who live on a council estate talking about disabling the internet on a phone or turning it off and flogging it on ebay leads me to believe different. That aware theft thing that works via SMS sounds a lot better

Hy, did you find a solution, i was thinking to register to samsung dive but found out about this problem. Does somebody really neads to turn on data manually for it to work? Thats just plain useless. If i lost it somewhere who will enable it, or if somebody took it i have to pray for them to enable data, lol.
P.S. Im also on custom rom.

Yeah I use theft aware, but you can get it free with the avast antivirus app. It's controlled by texts, and it has a lot more features than dive, wipe protection, etc.

Avast anti-theft is really nice. I'm using it also, but it's still beta, and has some serious bugs sometimes.
So back to your original question, I think we can call it BUSTED. There's no way for Samsung to activate data connection on your phone if it's turned off manually

Connection hanging on data network

Hi all,
I've had this extremely annoying problem for ages and I don't believe it's only related to the SGS3 (I had this on my SGS2 as well, probably should post in a more general forum but w/e) and it seems to be when I'm at work only so could just be confined to an area but constantly throughout the day my data connection just stops working.
What happens is:
Data working fine ---> I don't get any notifications for a while (whatsapp, etc) ---> Check phone and all I see on the HSDPA icon is every few seconds the upload arrow lights up then goes off, over and over...
The only fix is to restart my phone, I can try to switch data off then on but that takes a lot longer as the phone can't disable data quickly and turning it back on takes forever; same applies to trying to get the phone in Airplane mode.
I've only had this problem in Westminster but it's just so frustrating because it keeps happening over and over and I have tried so many solutions (new modem, new kernel, formatting various different areas of my phone) but since I started having this problem with a different phone I'm at a complete loss...
Any help will be very appreciated.
Thanks!
I've pinpointed the same issue (or at least one with identic symptoms) to 2 different problems
- one specific cell antenna had issues with fast dormancy, it kept forgetting the connection. Disabling fast dormancy helped somewhat but since the issue was on network-side it only really got better when they finally checked+upgraded the antenna (it was offline for half a day)
- my provider keeps pushing apn settings with a terribly slow and broken proxy.
Removing it brings the network to full speed. If you have no proxy configured or cannot remove it, try using a VPN network to see if it gets better.

I think it's the former, I've configured the APN myself before and it's still been an issue. I hadn't thought about it being the cell antenna, I think I might call O2 and inform them because it's so irritating.
Wish I could give you more than just a thanks!
Thanks!

So you cannot solve the situation =(( This problem annoying me a lot..
I observed something yesterday. I enabled wifi and tried my whatsapp lots of time. The connection problem NEVER occured.
Also this morning i realize that when i sent the message and when it is waiting to send (like there is a connection problem), i checked the server status of whatsapp on application, and it says fine/server is ok. Also as "mrbubba999" said while it is waiting, i can use my browser to reach internet and there is no problem with it.
I hope the problem is related with to the whatsapp servers/application or smt like that...

From what I understood, the issues did not occur on wifi? Check your apn settings with your telco provider. May be a damaged sim card too.
The issue does not lie with WhatsApp as I just used it almost extensively everyday and there's no delay. Also, wifi does not cause any issues so it's definitely something to do with your data

Have you tried to change the connection port? There is an option in settings, where you can change the port if you have connection issues.

If there is problem on apn settings or sim card, how can i browse on the internet without any problem. Also while my message is waiting to send, i checked the server status of whatsapp but it says fine always immediately.
it happens,it goes. best way is to check whatsapp status on twiter, they have problems sometimes,it's not always the phone's fault

Galaxy note i717 weird data.

I don't know if its my network or the kernel. But after flashing the 4aceskernel last night i enabled the fast charged and left it all night with airplane mode on,so i don't get bother. Now this morning i disable airplane off and fast charger off,and i enable my data and roaming, after that i try to get on play store, and it stock on loading with the circle going around, after couple seconds it says connection timeout. I dint pay attention to it, i left it alone.later on i try to use the Facebook app i couldn't it stock on loanding and after couple minutes it says network error. I went to my browser and search something on Google and it was working. I search the letters b,c,d just to check if it was my network. But it turn out that it wasn't my network at lease that's what I'm thinking.so i had some twrp backups from different ROMs and in all of them it still the same problem. I can use the internet to search even i can use xda and i can download ROMs but i cant use the data on any gapps. Or even the Google voice on the stock, opera, chrome,Firefox, dolphin browser. Not even gmails or Facebook. Yes my apn settings are correct.my accespoint is selected in my network.by the way i use net10. I search on Google about this problem but it just show different problems with the network nothing related to my issue. Help in need! Remember all this happen after flashing the kernel #31. Just to get this clear im not blaming this on the kernel because i don't even know if the kernel have to do anything with this, since I'm the online with this issue .but i came here because this the only thing i flashed last night. Any help will be appreciated guys/girls.
