Sammy-based ROM's are fully capable of Wifi Direct. CM9 should be too, however I've not tested it yet.
Are you mistaking Wifi Direct with Filesharing over Wifi Direct? The first is the underlying ad-hoc network technlogoy, the latter an app!

Agreed, however many have been hacked so WIFI direct is not working properly

My FIRST custom ROM I installed on S3, definitely a no go for WIFI direct

The technology is either missing or crippled in most custom ROMS.
And yes, the app's ability to be able to WIFI Direct as an option too.
Many have it, Astro, ES File manager etc, but if the hardware registers aren't there, the app would surely fail?

Im lost stock rom has capabilities to send most files via wifi direct i take it you want to be able to have it in all roms? If this is the case the Chefs have to implement it into there Roms for full functionality

indeed stock ROMS have the capability. But in re-romming the custom (stock) roms, many have broken it.
i take it you want to be able to have it in all roms? If this is the case the Chefs have to implement it into there Roms for full functionality

yes please. Rather fix wifi direct than [email protected] bluetooth, 250 times the speed for file transfer.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but Wanam unable to send files
DarkMOD Rom not working.
Yeah... Confirmed wanam2.0 with repacked kernel not working. Cannot send but can receive.
Funny however that s beam is working...
Maybe through nfc eh

Try Android Revolution HD 2.1.1
Tried a clean install without TiBU freezing or uninstalling anything with Wanam2.0 and stockmod kernel
Wifi direct is 100% working.
I usually uninstall via TiBu these items... maybe one of them affects the wifi direct?

Here's what I did,
reflashed the ROM, on stockmod kernel and tried wifi direct (WD) - OK
removed all the aforementioned apps except Samsung Accounts(recommended by Eiraku) and tried WD - OK
flashed Siyah1.4, removed Samsung Accounts and tried WD - OK
now... I really don't know why it previously was not working.. probably something went wrong with the previous flash of either the rom or the kernel
any fix for that ?

VPn (Hide My Ass)?
Hey guys anyone got VPN working on the S3 yet using the standard Android setup? I configure it the same way I would for the S2 but all I get is "Unable to connect".... is there a way to get any further diagnostics? Its the same SIM/network, and I can put it back it in the S2 and its fine. I've checked the data/gateway settings and email etc are all fine.

I did using purevpn settings. What bothered me was it will only enable VPN if we put screen lock. I didn't face it on iphone or LG O3D. http://www.purevpn.com/config/android_pptp/
Flashed it with a custom ROM, put the same settings in and .... it works. No idea what changed from the stock ROM but hey, its now working

is there any way to support wifi direct on lww. i saw wifi direct option in miui 2.5.xx version but wasnt able to use it properly. now i installed miui 2.7 and there is no supoort for wifi direct in it

hi i have flashed paranoid 2.99 immortal rom and its awesome except its a bit laggy..and the other problem with this rom is that usb tethering is not working..i dont know why???i rely mostly on usb tethering..so kindly look into the problem pls....

Click to expand... Click to collapse Tethering (usb or wifi) is the unsolved issue in most custom roms. I dont think there is any solution for that. For some WifiTether or Barnacle might work There are also some apps in GPlay which require app installed on phone and also on PC but the free ones are somehow limited (like no ssl or something) U can check (not sure of name) EasyTether In some roms WifiTether works (like in Scritchs CM10) but only adhoc network no infrastructure mode
[Q] Leap Wifi not working - authentication error (JB 4.1.2 XLS8)
Hi guys, each and every update I am running in the same problem, getting the WIFI to stop working with my companies Cisco LEAP. Today I updated to Stock XLS8 JB 4.1.2 and WIFI is returning an authentication error. I recreated the LEAP profile using the Leap Wifi Free app. Last time I needed to patch the wpa_supplicant binary to get it working. I also found some threads and also android bugs pointing to it (but this states it should work in 4.1.2 but not on 4.2: android issue #40023). Do you have the same problems? Do you have a solution? thanks Christian PS: Sorry if this topic is not new, search is currently not working.

I have it too. I was on jellybean LSJ & it was working as it should. as soon as I updated to LS8 it stopped working.

Click to collapse I also tried 2 custom roms based on LS8. Alliance v6 & Biftor v5. they both have the same problem. plus, I tried to change the modem but still the same. I'm pretty sure it's related to the base itself not roms nor modems or even phones. never had this problem before.

I FIXED MY WIFI PROBLEM !!!!!!!! FINALLY ! looks like wifi files are bugged in LS8. I took a backup of the folder etc/wifi in LSJ and replaced with the same files in LS8 & IT WORKED IMMEDIATELY ! make sure the files are really put. it might not replace the old files

Yes, its working with LSJ! here are the etc/wifi files of this ROM, to be honest, I dont know how to create a CWM update.zip... maybe somebody may assist. I changed it with Android Commander. Before that, check that /system is mounted rw mount | grep system mount -o rw,remount /system

Click to collapse make sure they replaced the files of LS8 turn the wifi off then on. it should work. if there isn't another problem somewhere else.

I tried all of them. only on this wifi folder. make sure the files REALLY replaced LS8 files. turn offf/on. wifi should work. unless you have a problem somewhere else which is the router. try resetting the router I'M USING OMEGA 19.2 TOO
I asked that because my wifi button was frozen after replacing those files and i couldn't enable the wifi back, even restoring a directory backup, so i had to reinstall the rom, now, i upgraded to a clean install omega 20 with siyah 6b4 and the wifi problem persist. :/ khaled_7 said: Doesn't depend on kernels. Found a rom with working wifi tethering. Go here https://forum.xda-developers.com/evo-4g-lte-sprint/development/rom-pac-rom-lp-beta1-t3049005 Then scroll down to post 2 & click where it says ocarinaz64's PAC builds. download the most recent post, which i believe is in 2015.. that's the one you want. that rom is working very well. no stability issues, all features work.
