(Q) possible to use sd card with fspe? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to use the sd card with fspe? Because when I try to load an iso I can't find it.
And if not what the hell am I supposed to do? Put my psx roms on my internal memory what a joke.
What's the point of a quad phone if it doesn't have enough storage to hold the big bad ass games it should be running.
I am now getting put off games because they require large downloads and that shouldn't be the case.
Is this something I could fix with a custom Rom?
Sent from my GT-I9300

First off - that's an app-related issues. Many developers seem to think the location of the external SD is universally the same just because their phone(s) have it that way. Many phones use /mnt/<FOLDER> for external SD and not the old cumbersome format (/mnt)/sdcard/external_sd
If you're rooted, it's easy to solve, just use the free APK "Directory Bind".
For it to work, create a folder named 'external_sd' on your internal SDcard, then bind-mount the /mnt/extSdCard on /mnt/sdcard/external_sd.

Thanks for your quick reply.
If I understand what your saying, will that make my external sd show up as a folder on my internal sd?
If so can I then install games and apps on my external sd?
Sorry I'm pretty dense lol

Just keep pressing up until you see a list of USB drives and select extSdCard and click on there to find your Roms.

I assumed the app wouldn't let him go higher up than /mnt/sdcard. Some do that which is quite stupid.

Maybe if he's running an older version but the last few versions at least can find external and any USB drive.

Well I only bought it yesterday off Google play so I am assuming I got the newest version. And no it doesn't let me go any higher.
I'm gonna check out what version it is.
Edit: version 0.11.29 and when I search for bios or iso it does start at system but only shows the internal sd card not the external one
Edit 2: yeah it's in the mnt folders lol, I was tired at the time

[Q] What is eating up all my storage space - SD Card

I just put on some tracks, ~250Mbs. My SD card is a 7GB. I added up the apps and it comes to 33.60Mbs , it is telling me that I have 668Mbs left on the SD card. How do I find what else is on my SD card, so that I can delete it and make more room.

You can use a file explorer to check through the folders for things you have that are taking up space. Also do you have a partitioned sdcard?

Check your nandroid backups. They add up real quick. if you use twrp, look in the twrp folder on you're sd card, and check backups. Each one could be over a gb, depending on your ROM, and recovery settings.

no no... much easier way to do this...
connect your phone to your computer, assuming you have windows, and navigate to your SD car (it will show as disk E or something)...
right click on the window (not on a file but in the directory of your /sd
so anyways, right click>sortby>size
it will organize all of your folders on your sd card according to size largest to smallest. you can then see what is taking up all that space.

You can't just move files/dirs like that. You have to set up symlinks too.
If you don't know how to do that, it might be best if you don't mess around anymore.

isnt there a way i can get the data to automatically save on to my internal storage space?
which rom you use?
In CM (and CM based) roms you can change the storages so that you will be able to use the internal storage as the app storage. notice that it will change the storage settings for all the other apps (For example, the camera storage location will be in the internal instead of the SD card)

[Q] Incredible 4G won't store apps and music on SD Card

Ok, so I have a Incredible 4g. I also have a 32 GB sd card that I use in it. But when i download music from a third party app such as "Music Download Paradise PRO" it stores it on the internal phone storage. Now i am not exactly a N00b with android, and I know that ANDROZIP is a great app to have on your phone. The app tells me I have 4.5 GB of storage which is the size of the built in phone stoage. On the SD card i have about 9 GB free. Also when I plug my phone into the computer and choose disk drive, i get 2 to choose from the HTC built-in storage and the SD card. Is there anything i can do to fix this?

No, HTC has put a block on this. You can go in the internal storage using Androzip, but when you try to move it to sd_ext then it says "Androzip has stopped working".

Oh, yes, this is the case. I'm not sure why I got stuck thinking this would move apps to MicroSD. It moves them to /sdcard/.android_secure. Unless you can find something that works better than Androzip, I believe the earlier suggestion by jose51197 to use a swap-storage-mod is the only option. Sorry to hear you aren't interested in unlocking your phone.

So I got 750mb free storage space, and while I can move an app to the SD card after install, incl. the main app of gangstar vegas, but when I run it and it tries to download the 3gb data package, it obviously says not enough space on the device internal storage. Which is true, but I have the SD card inside, how do I get the phone to download the data there? im rooted aswell if that helps is there an app that can make the phone think my external memory is my internal memory? thanks in advance

Link2sd plus will do that for you. It has an option of placing the application and/or its data on the sd. It's a paid app, but only $2 - well worth it imo.

OK, I should have been clearer. This is more complex than what I first described. In order to use Link2SD plus optimally, you will need to perform a few steps. You can find the reasoning behind them in the Link2SD FAQ (although a bit outdated). Here are the steps you should perform:
1. Backup your SD. This is a means of precaution only.
2. Reformat your SD drive to add a second ext3/ext4 partition (no need to wipe the data or anything like that). Its size should be about 10% of the total SD size. You can do it with MiniTool Partition Wizard. Make sure that the new partition is primary and not logical.
3. Reinstall Link2SD plus in order for it to recognize the new SD layout. May need to reboot here.
4. From Link2SD plus, choose your game. Tick all Link options, especially the link data option.
This will fool the game to think that its data is located on the internal storage, but it's really on the SD. In this case, the 3GB data should now be downloaded to SD.

LOL yeah. Although I'm a big android fan, this specific issue (the whole dealing with external SD that is) is a weak spot which android keeps failing to address throughout its releases. I know where it's coming from (basef on linux) but it's still something that should have gotten a proper creative solution by now.

No problem mate. It's best for you to try all the methods posted here by other people before trying Link2SD plus. If they work, it'll save you much hassle. I've tried to think of a guide for you, and it figured to me that the only way for it to work is if you either get an SD card reader or alternatively another device that allows you to mount the SD in a USB MSC (mass storage class) mode, as AFAIK LG stock devices only allow MTP mode, something that won't allow you to format a partition using your PC.

Yes, CWM is Clockwork Mod - Android's recovery program. Reason I asked is that it has a built-in ability to partition your SD, something that'll ease things up.
And don't feel bad about not partitioning theSD - this shouldn't be done in the vast majority of the cases, only in when you wanna use apps like Link2SD or others that need to push Android to the limit...

I guess it's possible, but I don't know how to do it...
Regarding Link2SD plus guide, you'll need one of the following two:
1. CWM on your device
2. A card reader, or another phone that allows you to mount the SD as MSC (like Disk On Key - in windows it'll show as an additional drive)

What I've observed is that some apps can be moved to SD and some can't. Being rooted and having link2sd helps, and link2sd will let you set the default install path to SD (with root). But some things like Chrome can't be moved. I think it has to do with hard-coded paths in some apps and not others. And then there's the Android 5+ nonsense about not using SD to promote the cloud. Might be worth looking into Ubuntu instead of Android. Sadly, Google is a company making decisions they think will maximize profit. Ubuntu doesn't have a vested interest.
2 gigs for one app, no way would I want such a thing unless I had a terabyte of internal memory. That's bloatware.
