Sim Unlocked? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I have the Tmobile S3 (t999) and got the unlock code from them since I will be traveling overseas. I entered the code by typing in *#7465625*638*# to pull up the enter network key box. After entering the code it tells me the unlock is unsuccessful.
I figured I would try inserting an AT&T sim card and try to put in the code that way. When I inserted the AT&T sim, it worked and I was able to make a call.
I typed in *#7465625# to check to see if the phone was unlocked and it still tells me it is locked. That can't be right, can it? If I go overseas and use a foreign sim, does anyone know if my phone will work?
Update:
My phone worked fine on using a foreign sim. It still says it's locked if I type in *#7465625#

if the ATT sim worked, you should be fine.
lucky you, ATT wont unlock ours yet )=

yeah, i asked AT&T yesterday and they said 1) it was too soon and 2) i'm still in my 30 day return window so it's ineligible. but i'm going to london in 2 weeks so will probably have to cough up the $25..

hi
i just called telus. i asked if they could unlock my set set, they stated yes BUT
- i must wait 3 moth after the set is first activated
- there is a $50 charge
i stated that i could get it unlocked cheaper via a 3rd party , they did not care and wouls not budge on price

Ok... heres how it works... i almost screwed myself... when u enter that network unlock code and dont put in a att or diff. Sim and enter the code it WILL NOT UNLOCK UR PHONE!!! ONCE you put in a diff /att sim a screen will pop up asking for code... IF YOU ENTER YOUR CODE WITHOUT A ATT/DIFF. SIM
IT WILL NOT UNLOCK AND IF YOU DO it 3X YOUR PHONE IS PERMENTLY LOCKED TO TMOBILE!!!
you only get 3 trys before this self destruct action is taken... How do i know? I called tmobile and they said I entered the code twice and failed and i only have one more chance to unlock correctly before perment lock to network!!! So fingers crossed that Tomarrow i get att sim and dont mess up...
I have heard of a reset code but you have to buy it and im not 100% sure about this...
SO CAUTION .....
If anyone knows were to get a reset code let me know please ... just incase... I dont want to return my phone.. I ended up with a keeper and a replacement might not be as good... thnx

Nothing software related is permanent
There was an unlock method for the Captivate that involved modifying /efs/nv_data.bin. Pretty sure something similar will eventually come along for the i747.

no, that's the problem. nv_data exists on the international SGS3 but not on the US variants. that is why we don't have an unlock solution but they do.
anyway, i called AT&T last week and they gave me my code with no problems.

[Q] Can you sim unlock the Atrix yourself?

I know that people have been going with cellunlock . net for their unlock codes but was wondering if you can unlock it yourself somehow. I unlocked the Samsung Captivate myself as the unlock code was hidden on the phone. Just basically wondering if I can save myself $20 somehow if that was possible. Thanks in advanced.

nope it isn't possible like that. but on the bright side. Once it is unlocked it is permanent so even if you flash an .SBF or anything it won't relock
What racecarbmw said, each code is dependent of imei so its device specific

The method used to unlock Atrix is called "remote unlocking" via IEME if you wanna google and read about it.
Thanks
Is there really no software that can generate the code based on your IMEI?

Atrix unlock available from ATT Aug 22nd 2011
I am moving to China and plan to use my Atrix there. I JUST got off the phone with ATT and they told me that they can give me my unlock code (because I am moving out of the country) BUT not until, on or after the 22nd of Aug 2011. Lucky for me that is right when I am going to China. So, if any of you "plan a trip out of the country" then you can get your unlock code from ATT for free.

Just called At&t and they gave me an unlock code for my Atrix over the phone.
It worked first time. They mentioned that 5 unsuccessful trys would sim lock the phone
permanently.

lol i called att and they wouldnt give it to me, but seriously i only payed 3 dollars to a guy on ebay and had it unlocked first try. dont pay 20, the 3 dollar guys are just as good. just check their feedback first
Well that sucks that we cannot unlock this ourselves. I mean you can Unlock an iPhone without the need to call I even unlocked a Few HTC Android devices as well, and good point we can unlock the bootloader but can't unlock the code... Maybe just not enough interest shrug.
Not trying to plug anyone or anything but I just unlocked my "Bell Canada" Atrix.
I used cellunlock.net The code cost 40$ but I used the promo code for 50% "android50" or something (Google it) also they were having a 50% off sale so I got it for only 10$.
The good:
It worked!
They did not over charge me (10$ USD)
The bad:
It took them almost a week to get back to me with the code, I thought they may have scammed me but they did finally email me with the code 6 days later.
They mailed me 2 codes ####### or ######## I used the first one but why 2 codes???
Hope it helps!!

Carrier Unlocking The Galaxy Note SGH-i717

HI, I just wanting to throw something out there...I was looking at some different sites about unlocking the galaxy note...and I was also checking the reviews for the sites too(can never be too careful).. and I ended up picking cellunlock.net and going with that one...the unlock was 39.99 but after using the promo code I searched in google (android50) it brought it to 19.99..well while I was waitng on the unlock email I stuck my sim card from tmobile usa in there and come to find out it was already unlocked...well I still got a unlock code in my email about 12 hours later but never tried it cuz there was no reason too...well since then I got a new note ( a white one).. and it was not already unlocked...believe I checked haha...but I checked reviews again and there were several saying that the never got a code..and several saying that the codes they sent were fake...but I really needed the note unlocked and at&T wasn't helping..so I went for it anyway...I got the unlock code in my email about 28 hours later and I tried it and it luckily worked!...now that was about 4 hours out of the time frame that they gave me...but it worked...so I just thought Idf let people know my experience...but try at your own risk!
at&t has been giving out the unlock codes for free.
I dunno if the sale is still on, but I got my code from unlockthatphone.com for about $14.
I talked to AT&T international care on the website and they gave me the unlock code in 2 minutes without a problem

yeah that's where I almost always get them from...but this one they wouldn't give me...something about people abusing the right to get the codes or something like that..but hey..what the heck..i don't mind paying 20 for an unlock code
I called 611 from my cell today and asked for the unlock code and they gave it to no questions asked... well other than my imei and if I had any other questions.

You weren't kidding. Called and said I wanted to use the phone overseas and gave them the imei number and a minute later she had the unlock code for me. Nice!!
Same for me - I got the unlock code straightaway on a web chat with AT&T. The site says something about a limit on the number of unlocks one can obtain on an account, I think it was something like 5 per year.
I don't see why they would give you a hard time unless you're unlocking a bunch of phones on your account.
Same for me, I used the AT&T International Support web chat and they gave me the code right away. Too bad you need a non-AT&T SIM to actually use it.

That is the point of unlocking a phone -- to use another carrier's sim card. Otherwise, why unlock?

For me? Higher resale value. All other phones I've unlocked didn't require a SIM at all to do this.

[Q] pin or puk inside nv_data?

I have been trying for several days to unlock my phone with no luck. While trying to hex edit nv_data.bin (to no avail yet again) I browsed the file as text and found one group of digits that vaguely resembles what I think may be my pin followed by my puk code. I don't know for sure simply because I only ever saw it scribbled down somewhere by my ex who never let me set stuff up myself...
I am down to one single pin attempt so I was hoping if someone out there knows their pin and/or puk code and can easily view their nv_data file, if you could maybe just open it in wordpad and do a search for them to see if either are in there. I know I'm probably wrong and it's a long shot since I found no such information in the forums, but this is bugging me >_>
I'm guessing you are referring to carrier unlocking your phone? I have no clue how to unlock a phone the way your describing. Our phone is very simple to unlock though, go to the playstore and download galaxy s unlock. Follow the directions and you should be fine, worked like a charm for me. Ill post a link to the app in the playstore/market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.helroz.galaxysunlock

Edit - after re reading your post I'm thinking I misunderstood what you were asking, are you saying you cant use your phone because you don't know the pin to unlock the screen? I'm confused sorry

My phone works with the original sim or without sim. When I put in a different sim it asks for a pin code... I honestly am not quite sure what it's asking for since both *#7465625# and SGS unlock pro claim everything is unlocked, yet galaxsim says it's locked and the phone still wants a pin code for the new sim
Also while it is called a vibrant it seems it isn't a vibrant *sigh* it's the "galaxy s vibrant" from bell canada and I am wanting to use it in Belgium.
So long story short: I am utterly lost.

Oh wow I so need to get some sleep this was so dumb: I was looking for the wrong thing!!
It wasn't my phone that was locked, it was the new sim card that was locked!! I never realized this because in Canada the sales rep unlocks it and that's it. In Belgium you have to input the sim's pin code every single time you boot up the phone.
Several reps at the store tested the phone for me to see if it would even accept a Belgian sim card and they all looked at me asking me for a pin to unlock my phone after it booted up with a local sim card. How the heck did these people who sell phones for a living not know that it just plain wanted the pin that goes with the sim card? I can't believe I just spent all weekend trying to unlock an already-unlocked phone...
Anyway I dug through the paperwork that came with my new sim and Lo and Behold!!
A pin code!!
AND a puk cude!!
I feel really dumb now but....
Wooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooo IT WORKS!!!

Country based carrier unlock (Now you can use your phone with any sim at any place)

If you know this simple procedure then call me a noob
I got a HTC legend from UK which was locked with the Vodafone carrier and was not working here in Pakistan, so i did some searching on getting an unlock code to unlock it but it was costing me money ( Some inner-cheapness stopped me from paying ). But I found an easy way to unlock and use it anywhere in the country.
Steps:
1) Use a phone which is local bought and is already unlocked.
2) Put in a sim card and put up a sim card lock/PIN Code ( usually '0000' because it's easier to remember).
3) Put it in the carrier locked phone and start the phone.
4) When the phone asks for the Sim card/PIN unlock code, enter it and Voila!
5) If this was helpful then don't forget to hit the Thanks button
You sir have earned your first thanks.
I wish I could test this though. If I had an extra AT&T (second biggest carrier in America) phone I would set up a sim lock code on my unlocked AT&T S3, and try it out! Samdung phones are easy to unlock though Samsung thinks people don't know about the dialer exploit where you go into the menus and find "NV DATA LOCK INITIALIZE".
On the One S there is a guide as well. It involves using terminal, entering a code that shows the IMEI and NV LOCK code, flipping and then adding the number. If this is a universal way looks like we figured it out lol.
Phone unlockers shouldn't be charging so much for unlocking phones, especially if it's illegal in some ways now.

Yeah I've heard about the Samsung thing, but never tried it on there because i've never got a locked samsung phone. The terminal seems to be a bit difficult for some people ( especially me ) but I guess this thing works on all HTC phones because of the manufacturer thing maybe, not sure about xperia or sony phones though, Will try it if i get my hands on one.
P.S Thanks for the First Thanks appreciate it
