Coming from motorola - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I came from the Motorola bravo and now I have the x10a. I noticed things are a lot different here from there. I want to install a custom Rom but keep my bootloader locked. Is that possible? And also what Rom would you recommend for stability and speed? How do you overlook on the stock Rom? Sorry for all the questions, xperia is so much different from Motorola so I want to make sure my phone doesnt get bricked.

Hello and welcome to x10 xda. Yes, you can flash locked bootloader ROMs as long as you updated latest 2.3.3official GB from sony pc companion, to get compatible baseband for most roms. Then, get your 2.3.3 rooted and installed xrecovery. Last is, download you desired ROM.zip and updates. Remember visit their thread and follow instruction properly.
If you are newcomer for rooting x10/flashing, you may visit my signature link for pdf guides. Although older version, but more stable and reliable and higher success to failure ratio.
For recommending awesome and smooth Roms for locked bootloader, try donutHD 2.2.8jelly bean. Its the best now for locked and unlocked bootloader. I got link too in my signature.
All the best
Whitefang

Thank you for your help. You are very much appreciated

Hey, I recommend you to use any stock based rom you like, they are very different.
As for speed there are kernel's for locked BL, I'v used doomkernel v6.
Also i just unlocked my BL yesterday and its like a new phone. really recommended. (Im on FXP129 CM7 )

benefit of unlocked bootloader

hi guys
i'm just wondering what would be the true benefit of an unlocked bootloader, since we can still use the same roms using cobrato's method?
while i want to try it, it seems that the x10's unlocked bootloader still have limitations ie kernels need to flashed and also irreversible.
are there much tangible benefits, ie better performance?
thanks
I just love the boot screen of custom kernel ;D

hi jiawei,
thanks for getting back to me, but when you say custom kernel smoother than stock, do you mean just any? or custom kernels with an unlocked bootloader?
thanks

So you can load custom kernels directly without having to bypass the stock kernel.
Its a lot cleaner and allows for more customisation like doomkernel v06 for unlocked bootloaders which includes a bootmanager. It also has the potential for cm7.2 (Maybe cm9) in the future, and full support from cm because we will be able to use cmw recovery not just xrecovery

Putting a custom rom on X10a ?

I used flash tool, upgraded the phone to 2.3, rooted it, installed 0.3 recovery, unlocked the bootloader, and finally I installed miui 2.3.7. All of it was done with flashtool

It is quite easy once you have done it a couple of times. I used to flash my x10 on a daily basis. Sometimes 3 or 4 times a day because I was bored or several ROM updates came at once lol

Haha yeah, I did that on my mytouch 4g before it got hard bricked

Revert neo to GB (locked bootloader)

Hi everyone
A friend of mine owns an xperia neo and it became totally unusable since the ics update back in august. Now he finally gave in and asked me to help him to install gb firmware (or stock ics if there's any stable and smooth aosp roms) on his phone. I did a bit of research here (quite hard actually due to all the variants ...) and all what I've found needed an unlocked bootloader which is impossible for his phone. I'm not familiar with sony's phones so I don't really know if anything can be done with a locked bootloader. Any kind of help is welcome. Thanks.

do u want to Flash stock GB or want to flash Custom ROMS? if u want to flash stock GB then u can flash it on locked bootloader & if u want to flash custom roms, then there are some custom roms available for locked bootloaders as well.
Stock gb will be enough for now. What do i need to download ?

[Q] [Noob] Kitkat for Xperia P with locked bootloader in the near future ?

Hey guys, i am new here but reading for last few weeks, i was ios user but now got hold of xperia P from sony and very pleased with the phone.
I read and learned how to root, cwm and flash custom rom. Learned how to check is bootloader unlockable or not.
So my Xperia says No for bootloader which means that i can do everything except flash custom kernels ??? correct me if i am wrong !?
I flashed Honami custom 4.1.2 and it works great but i want kitkat 4.4, but as far as i see, its available only with custom kernel (which i cant flash !?).
So tell me could i expect in near future kitkat for stock kernel or do i sell this phone which i se great by the way ??!?!
Thx, and apologiez if there is similiar thread or wrong subforum. No hate please
Dejan
Nope.. You can't have custom kitkat on you phone with locked boatloader because it uses custom kernel...so, You can only flash roms that are based on stock rom...!
But there are some people claiming that they managed to unlock their bootloader despite it says no.. So, You could check those threads... But I don't recommend that as it could harm your phone..

What is the worse thing that could happen, i already had soft-brick and i fixed with pccomapnion software, could it be unrepairable ?
Actually I don't know... But it could get hard brick because you are doing what your phone is not capable of.. so... It's up to you to decide whether try it or not...

yes but Sources have leaked so won't it be possible to have a stock rom on Kitkat ?
or even use a newer phone kitkat on our XP like XPZ1 ?
I don't think we can run any custom kernel on locked boatloader..! That's why we cannot run kitkat on our phone with locked boatloader.. But I am just sharing my own view.. Because I really don't know if it is possible!
