Today I wanted to see what the JellyBean for SGS III is like so I made a nandroid backup of my current setup. After playing with JB for a while, I wanted to restore the backup, but I was greeted with an error message.
I've been messing with this the entire F****** day and so far I've isolated the file that is corrupted (it's /system/app/Keystring_factory.apk).
So I need to delete that file from within the archive. The problem is how do I do that? When I try to copy the file to my computer, it hangs on it and says "corrupted file" (tried windows explorer but also total commander). I am able to open the archive on my SGS III using something like ZArchiver, but it doesn't have the option to delete the file from within the archive.
Help?

U can extract cwm with titanium backup or use a file explorer to extract the backup and delete the file then zip it.
But I would flash a new Rom and extract cwm with TB and restore the parts u need with TB.then when all is good make a new backup.
I don't think it's a good idea to restore a corrupted file even if u find the errors
Btw. Fayaab has tweeted that he is going to release a JB for gs3 tomorrow and this should be working
Tried that too, Titanium got stuck at the file. 7-Zip got stuck even when "Testing Archive". I'll write the file off as corrupt. Interestingly enough, the data.ext4.tar is also corrupt. Does this mean it's a time for a new microSD card? Or is it CWM that's writing corrupt files somehow?

just rooted my evo3d, everything went great and i even git CWM to install the first time correctly. heres where i think i went wrong-
i downloaded rom manager and i attempted to use it and it worked great. to me it seemed like it worked because i was able to choose my phone and even flashed the CWM over the original one i had. i made a backup of my stock rom and tried a rom from the dev forum, didnt like it and tried to switch back and got the MD5 mismatch error when i tried to restore my stock rom. now, i thought i would try to flash the original CWM which was blue over the CWM(orange) and then attempted to get the rom to restore. that was also a fail. what can i do? i read that installing busy box could effect this? any help would be appreciated.
sucks but it happens download the RUU from here and reroot if you need too
FIXING MD5 MISMATCH

# rm nandroid.md5
# md5sum *img > nandroid.md5
gaaah i dont have ADB installed on my mac. is there not a simpler way? anyway to fix this?! i dont think i need to reroot honestly..

I may have found a way to fix the MD5 issue.
Well, it worked for mine.
I saved a backup of the stock ROM before I installed the needle kernel.
it was named 2011-08-01-23.53.47
The I saved another backup of the ROM with the needle kernel/
it was named 2011-08-02-19.06.28 w/ needlekernel
What happened was that on the sd card the backup folder was named 2011-08-02-19.06.28 w/ then inside that folder was another folder named needlekernel . And that folder contained the backup files.
It seems that putting the space in the name caused it to create another folder within the backup folder instead of just having the backup files in there. I kept getting the MD5 mismatch when I tried to restore that backup.
So I took the files out of the needlekernel folder and put them in the 2011-08-02-19.06.28 w/ folder. I then deleted the needlekernel folder. The last thing was to take the (space)w/ off of the end of the folder name so it was just as the program named it to begin with.. 2011-08-02-19.06.28
After doing that I was able to restore the backup through ROM Manager. So apparently it's best not to add anything to the backup name when saving it.
One other thing I'll mention. When I restored the backup with the needle kernel in it it put the stock kernel back in the ROM.
Hope this helps anyone with the MD5 issue.

Have successfully re-rooted my NT, and am now trying to block OTA using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405418
But cannot get files to move to Titanium Backup Folder. No matter what I do, I get the below error message. I have tried moving files via USB, rebooting and trying to move via USB, and shutting down Nook and removing MicroSD card and attaching directly to my computer.
What gives? Can anyone tell me what's wrong and how to fix it?

I just installed it.
I moved zip file to folder on SDCard then extracted using ES - that worked.
However, when I restored backup, I still have 1.4.0 .
What did I do wrong?
I tried redownloading the unzipme file but when I try to extract the contents, it tells me it is a null file.
That must be a hint of some sort!
I had the same problem. The root cause was that I couldn't copy directly from within the windows "virtual zip folder" to the sdcard. I had to first extract the files to another directory on the computer and then copy from there to the sdcard.

I tried that, but it didn't work. I was able to shift the files into the folder using ES (as noted above), but the version didn't change.
Just looked in my Titanium folder and there are 5 files, btw.

Are you sure you restored the right one? Perhaps you should move them all out of the TB folder and try again.

It's a good question-- I did indeed restore the wrong one! Went back and restored the 12/22 version rather than the 12/26 (today's) and voila! I have version 9.9.9.

First off, don't rename a cmw backup... trust me, if you rename the zip it will cause an md5 mismatch when you try and restore and that always tends to happen when ya need it most.
Second the file you are looking for is either on your SD or your internal storage, the file si called clockworkmod or something like that, inside you will see a file labled backup. Delete as you will, but I always tend to transfer said files onto my pc and title an individual folder for each file, there for eliminated the irritation of md5 mismatch.

That's what I'm sayin . There is no clockwork mod folder. I do have it installed though. Thanks for the info. I didn't know that would mismatch the md5

You should be able to restore the folder , by booting into recovery , and running a new backup.
This will force place a new backup file to the SD card in the proper location.
If this does not work , or the backup fails to run, you must reflash the recovery using Odin ....g
you are using cwm and not twrp right? if using twrp the backups are in folder named twrp on internal or external which ever one you specified when backing up.

/sdcard/external_sd/clockworkmod/backup

I downloaded the Android 4.4.2 source code that turned out to be about 14GB with more than 4,00,000 files.
I want to back up the folder in some .tar or zip or similar archive so that I can start fresh if something goes wrong in the working copy. I tried making a .tar.gz archive but it gave file permission errors during extracting and won't extract anymore.
So, how do I go about this ??

This is what I did in my starting days
I copied all the folders from the source directory to another HDD which was just 80gb... I kept it permanently as my backup HDD...
But while copying don't copy everything at once... Copy in pieces... The 'external, framework n repo' folders are huge... So copy one by one... Or It'll take forever to copy....
But actually backups aren't required... You can always reset any changes you make to any file..!
But what's wrong with archiving ? I get multiple errors of "Cannot create symbolic link".
And how can reset the changes of the entire source code ??

The backup is split into data.ext4.win000 through data.ext4.win007 and each of the parts has an accompanying .md5 with the same naming structure (ie. data.ext4.win000 and data.ext4.win000.md5.) There's also a data.info file as well.
The system backup is the exact same as described above for the data, except it's only 2 parts (system.ext4.win000 and system.ext4.win001, with the accompanying md5 files and the info file.)
Can someone provide a bit of guidance? I'm using a Windows 7 Home Premium machine.

Simply rename the file to data.ext4.tar and use winrar to extract it.
I'm revamping this thread because I'm...desperate!
I have a nandroid backup (TWRP 2.8.7.0) and I would like to browse it on my PC. I'm focusing on files with structure data.ext4.win000x (where x goes from 0 to 2).
I'm able to open with 7-zip (should be equivalent to winrar) every individual file but size is faulty: every file is nearly 1.5 Gb while the content of the zipped file that I see it's around 50 kb. If I concatenate the files with the command copy /b data.ext4.win000? outputfile regardless the extension I give to "outputfile" I'm no longer able to open it with 7-zip.
Any suggestion/hint please ????
Not finding entire folders/files while browsing backup
I find the same thing regardless of the mechanism I am using to browse the backup. I am looking in /data/data for my own apps' data. Here is what I have tried so far:
1. Nandroid Manager app
2. TWRP Explorer app
3. ZArchive app
4. In a terminal, cat data.ext4.win??? | tar -tv > less (and then searching for my apps' package names
I was looking inside my nightly full backup to extract and recover some files I accidentally deleted. Cannot even find folders for the package names (except for 1 app). However, when I do a full restore from the same backup inside of TWRP Recovery, the missing files are indeed restored. So I know they are in the backup.
Why can I not find them and get at them any way else? I must be missing something simple.

BTW - in the recovery.log file in the backup folder, I see the folders/files in question being "added". Very odd.
BTW2 - at least with regards Nandroid Manager app, I noticed that I was seeing some files I know I had removed from my apps some time ago. How could that be? I decided to clear data/cache for Nandroid manager and try again. It took much longer to process the backup for exploring. But now at least that app seems to be doing the right thing and I can see all folders/files.
